ULEZ - How To Beat The Ultra Low Emission Zone In London
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 9 июл 2024
- ULEZ, London's Ultra Low Emission Zone is here and it's about to expand. The ULEZ zone operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, every day of the year, except Christmas Day (25 December), within the same area of central London as the Congestion Charge but is set to extend on the 25th October 2021.
James takes a drive around London in the Collecting Cars Defender (ULEZ compliant btw) to discuss what it might mean for you and your vehicle.
To check if your vehicle is ULEZ compliant click the link below: tfl.gov.uk/modes/driving/chec...

I drive my van double the miles to avoid the ulez and lez charges thus creating more pollution.
exacly , altho dont be fooled in to thinking your killing everyone and the planet , your van is more economical and enviro friendly then sadiqs multple range rovers that drive in convoy and the planes he can afford to travel on to eco meetins around the world , its jokle
Since Khan announced he was bringing it in I have been burning all my rubbish in a bin in my back garden.
@@dellawrence4323 im gonna do the same cheers for the great idea :) also burn wet wood too
It's all about cash for them
I was diverted into the LEZ with my sprinter motorhome when the Dartford bridge was closed, next thing was a fine for taking a lorry into the zone without being compliant at 3860kgs. The only approved way was to drive all the way around the WHOLE M25 to the A2 the other side, that is signed as the correct diversion.
Once the extension has happened. The goalposts will move and the cameras will be used to charge every single vehicle.
Marston group have been boasting to staff about it's motor vehicle compliance camera systems and their use to catch vehicles making "illegal" U turns and stopping in the yellow box. Marston group also baw deep in air monitoring tech
i can see a bright future for for fake license plates.
Cars over 8 years old are now considered to be scrappers.
ULEZ charges will be about zero by 2030 as most non compliant cars will be at end of life.
And those cameras will then be used for...?
I predict our new AI masters will punish anyone driving anywhere.
Or/and the charge will be tightened to change to anyone driving a non-euro 7 car.
ULEZ is a lie and must be stopped.
Thought you were going to tell us how to beat the ULEZ charge…. lol
Exactly, what a con artist this idiot is, he used the title just to get viewers and promote his channel and site…..and told us nothing we don’t already know
Exactly what a fudd
Agreed I'm still none the wiser.
So did I. Glad i saw this... Will stop watching now 🤪
Yeah typical click bait title to try and push his own business selling cars
ULEZ should be called USELESS. Governments do what they want to, have the public nothing to say?
Londoners knowingly voted for it in 2021 Mayoral election. It was on page 5 of Sadiq Khans manifesto in plain English.
Exactly, you can keep 'polluting' if you pay the charge.
Government only gets away with it as long as the public comply.
Mass non compliance is required but this needs citizens with a back bone.
@oomz1975 Backbones and brains. With all the things going on, it seems there is more backbone than brains at the moment. Dangerous lol
In the near future it won't matter what type of car you have as the GOV has stated that ALL vehicles in the future ( Incl electric) will have to pay ULEZ! And the zone will expand beyond the A406 to within in the M25 and then national!!
Absolutely right it was always going happen it was predicted some years ago I live inside the A406 and our so called Labour Council ( for the working class people ) Newham have started the emission system you cannot drive past certain schools restricted hours or £60 fine or where roads where you can only walk or cycle restricted hours you couldn't make this up. Don't vote Labour. Strange at 5pm teachers drive there cars out these schools there emissions don't matter
Why our mayor drives a nice Range Rover personal plates. The worst is yet to come for car drivers
exactly, and once all cars are electric, fckn gov will come with new study saying that electric vehicles create even more CO2 then diesel and petrol cars therefore all so called green cars owners have to pay ulez, congestion, plus all kinds of new taxes eg GLC(greater london charge), A406 tax, CLET(central london electric tax). Just be creative and create your own tax
And so the first UK civil war begins
Corruption at its finest 😡
My car, a 1962 Morris Minor is exempt and is MOT and Road Tax exempt as well. Good way to go, it's even going up in value. Time to buy a classic.

Yes, there are many ways around it.
I have strangely enough been looking for a greener way around it for a friend but there comes a point when the class changes that may bring it up a peg which may put one in a worse off position.
@@harwoods11 Way to go. I love those to bits. Converting to RHD comes at a price though and not happy leaving it LHD.
I don’t think the fact over the last 15 years we have been almost forced too throw away vehicles for newer ones meaning millions of vehicles produced that manufacturing process is causing more harm then it would keeping an older vehicle well maintained maybe the real answer is stricter rules on vehicles repairs and maintenance
good luck charging your EV in the ULEV zone what idiots make these laws Oh thats right people that live outside the zone
Another nail in the coffin of London. Bought my dream car for my 50th birthday, 6 months later I find out about the ULEZ. So I have a beautiful car bought and paid for and they want me to pay 1000's for a new one. Bye bye London!!!!!!!
Mass non compliance is required but this needs citizens with a back bone.
What is kahn going to do if EVERYONE decides not to pay the charge & ignore the fines?
5.7 V8 Vauxhall Monaro is exempt according to the checker.
Or be an absolute legend and purchase a car built before 1975 and drive through London free of charge. All classic cars are exempt from all charges 👌🏻
Wow, is that so? He should have mentioned that..
1975? I thought it was 40 years so that would mean before 1981.
It’s a rolling 40 year thing, no tax, no mot, no ulez. Got 6 months to wait and I’m in the clear!

Great if you can afford to junk your old car and buy another, a huge number of lower paid, pensioners, key workers can’t.
Uninteresting and pointless video. This is not about beating ULEZ rules but about how to comply and 7 minutes to explain that is wasted time. To promote your site you should just say come and sell your non compliant car with us if you don't want to pay ... And that should take less than 30 seconds.
He literally explained which cars will be effected so if you avoid those you’re effectively ‘beating’ ulez rules. Unless you honestly thought there was some secret way of getting around the rules somehow. 😂

@@LCOF I did.... Buying a 40+yo car, using some trick parking strategy... And for my older cars, lobby for the parliament to lower the threshold of classic cars down from 40 years to 30 years like in many other countries. Or, lobby them so that cars that are driven less than say 3000 miles a year are exempt from it because manufacturing low emission cars to replace these will emit far more than keeping these on the road (shame that manufacturing emissions and generally emissions from manufacturing to end of life and recycling are not the main criteria for ULEZ)

@@John-ob7dh Is he happy about paying ULEZ?
eco fascism :) I live in one of the original ULEZ zones in Silvertown east london, it effects the poorest of communtities who cannot afford to simply get a newer car. This zone is ironically next to London city airport which has been expanding it's traffic and facilities ever since i've lived here. And also, they are now building the new river crossing right in this zone which will bring more traffic. I'm sure these aeroplanes and cars run on water. Newham council approve ridiculous ammounts of building development whilst TFL are either cutting their services or not expanding them. There are so many people living in my part of London now, who literally can't afford to live here, it's ridiculous. I see 2 bedroom flats on my estate with 6 people living in them, They are creating the new version of a Victorian slum.
Maybe it’s my American upbringing, but I honest cannot believe you people actually tolerate the government punishing you for driving your own car like this. I’d expect nothing less than daily protests in the street by the 1000s.
A government that has the power to tell you that you can’t drive without being fined, has the power to do anything, and you won’t see it until it’s too late.
We had a motorcycle protest on some other BS thing back in the late 70's thousands of bikers from all areas descended on London
It was awesome but did little more than give us a good day out
💯
The Americans are no different. Would you like some examples? Trust an American to talk down to you. 🙄
So this video is basically an advert for collecting cars.
and ulez
Cash generator.....its really green to force folks to ditch perfectly good cars (with all there embodied carbon) for a new one with even more.
And all delivery vans/lorries will have to pay so costs will be passed onto customers...what about buses (all new electric and paid for by londoners ?) and taxis?
I can tell you what is pointless about ULEZ i have a Lexus ls430 v8 made in 2001 NOT 2005 and yet free from Ulez, and yet i can't drive Skoda 2015 diesel 1.4 a lot of newer models are not ULEZ Free. but yet i can drive a BMW SERIES 7 MADE IN 2003 v12 petrol free from ulez
There is another way. Change the number plate to make the car appear compliant.
Funny
Perhaps.
As I recall one can run a plate indicating a date older than the actual car (bike, etc)
The way I did it was a little unorthodox but was many years prior to all this current BS, but the end deal was I got a custom name on a different plate to the main guts of the machine.
It may be easier or harder to track that way, did not bother me it was well within the limits back then anyway.
Q plates is another to look into for some perhaps.
I cannot remember the details on them, only that they were a different category if I changed just a little bit on my custom build.
For anyone still interested in custom builds and re registration, there are a few other tricks.. pm me for more info, its free info but can get specific so not for the faint hearted.
I had wondered what Dom Joly was up to these days, now we know!
Hi Collectingcars, do you think they will move the goal posts from Euro 4 to Euro 5 in the future?
2022 and lots of tradesmen are boycotting. London as we worked out we can make same money without the hassle and stress outside London .
Cost of parking is unrealistic and hard to find . Ulez taught us we don’t need London . Feel sorry for those who live there as service costs will skyrocket .
Absolute nonsense. Where there's business, tradesmen will come. You need to get with the program & get an electric vehicle, like all he other tradesmen that are taking your business.
@@zivkovicable
Thanks for the advice
You need to read what I said , loads of tradesmen have lost interest in central London . If you think we can’t find work outside it’s you who needs to get with the program . London has passed the stress tipping point .
What I said is echoed by many , Enjoy London ... we won’t go hungry without it .
@@tmcunlimited & London won't go without tradesmen. The largest concentration of customers in the UK. Not to mention all the tradesmen who live in London. Do you really think they're going to travel out of town to make a point? Who are the biggest plumbing firm in the UK for instance? Pimlico Plumbers, based right in the centre of town. They launched their electric fleet back in 2017.
If you think ULEZ, road pricing etc will be restricted to just London in the coming years, you've got another thing coming your way.

To put you in the picture everything has a tipping point .Most tradesmen working in London don’t I’ve in London. .
Yes there is money to be made there but against overheads the numbers don’t add up . You see it’s also the extortionate parking cost and lack of it .
Yes you can bring in any new tax you like but it all boils down to practicality . We are not geared for electric vans yet .
Happy days , we are making more money without the hassle ... fact .

@@tmcunlimited You really don't understand the market. Whatever you turn down, others will will take up. You might not be ready to comply, but others already have. It's funny that you think that restricting your customers & avoiding the wealthiest & most densely populated part of the UK is any skin off their nose.
I'm quite happy that you wont be turning up on my street with your banger. A tradesman driving an old rust bucket says lot about the standard of their work & the state of their business. If you really are making more money than ever how come you can't afford a compliant vehicle?
The French Crit'Air system is designed to enhance air quality. Cost to you the vehicle owner if you obey the rules less than £5.
With ULEZ I can drive the worst polluting oil burner round London all day, pumping out all those pollutants, but that's OK as I've paid £12.50.
I have a classic bike, which is registered 1974 and classed as a Historic vehicle as shown inside the V5 and yet if I put the reg in TFL's (ULEZ) 'Check my Vehicle' finder it still states I would have to pay the charge which I know is Complete BS and the law is 100% on my side, why should go through the hassle of telling them they are wrong! it's up to them to get it right FFS.
Same here. If you set up a ulez account it will tell you you're exempt though.
yes, I had similar stuff on some wheels years ago and got pulled up on multi issues.
I knew the rules and regulations. and just told pc plod total my detail and book me for any infractions he stated.
Never heard another word as the wheels covered many areas and wieght classifications. and dates and was obviously too much like hard work to figure which law I was breaking if any.
TFL got 247 million total income from Congestion Charge in the last financial year I don't know how much they got from the ultra low emission charge but guaranteed in the future they will extend and and the congestion charge and the people in the UK will not demonstrate against it
Make sure rev it whilst driving past the Houses of Parliament. 👍
No one in their right mind would be against reducing emissions, but retrospective legislation is NOT the way forward and opens the door to very dubious permutations of possibility for the law makers. It is on the ground of retrospective legislation that this Ulez extension is not only obscene but dangerous.
@john ernest I agree. BUT its van drivers and lorry drivers that are affected. Most petrol cars even if purchased before 2010 are not affected as the restriction is a euro 4 engine. Any diesel van (probably most) purchased before 2016 most certainly are, as a euro 6 is needed. I would suggest a ratio of 1 van for every 10 cars. Here is the thing my diesel van burns the same fuel as any other diesel vehicle on the road, if you looked into it ill bet you a tenner the emissions between my euro 5 engine and a euro 6 are negligible at best.
I have a Smart diesel that is so low as to be road tax exempt, however I cannot take it into London because of the ulez rules, it was at the time one of the very lowest emissions vehicles on the road . Luckily I have no desire to go into the stinking hole by car or any other method.
Funny that.. Yet my old 2002 corsa c 1.0 is compliant!

Petrol over 2005 usually are ulez exempt
Your late 90s car could be made compliant!
As someone into 90s and early 2000s cars i've yet to see any petrol cars over 01 not compliant but before 01 are not compliant due to the emissions not being recorded on the V5, i have 2 02 reg petrol cars that are compliant but the same ones built in 2000 or older (X reg) are not despite being the exact same car and spec due to them not having a recorded emissions on the V5.
if you have a older late 90s petrol car it could be compliant, you need need to contact the DVLA to find out at what VOSA station is able to do this and it usually isnt cheap as well.
you can test this out yourself, find a petrol car model that was made from the late 90s to earls 00s and check for compliance on a 90s one and 01+ one. e.g. Renault scenic mk1, Honda accord etc
Spot on. Good information.
If I already live within the ULEZ zone and my car is non compliant parked in my garage. Dont drive everyday so how much do I pay?
Still £12.50 a day . You can have it parked the problem is driving it . Ridiculous
12.50 a day ulez and 15 for congestion charge on a day that you drive your car
What about the many diesel powered trains still operating in London, do they pay a ulez fee? You know your on a diesel powered train as you will hear a high reving engine as the train leaves the platform. That sound is the turbo diesel engine giving a huge burst in power (torque) to start pulling the train.
That Honda CRv is actually compliant.
Alter 1 letter or no
on your front and rear plates very slightly and the cameras carnt pick it up and they only read plates and nothing else , a large felt tip pen works great and you can wipe it clean when you need to pay to park or when not driving in the zone , a friend of mine does this 7 days a week and has never had to pay..... 😜
Pretty incorrect on the CRV, it's definitely ULEZ compliant
My 2004 V70 with the normally aspirated 2.4 5 cylinder petrol engine and 5-speed automatic transmission is compliant
As is my 1975 6.75 V8 Bentley, by way of exception.
Just a thought, I wonder if older cars could be retro fitted with ad blue in order to comply? It just squirts ammonia into the exhaust, not causing any damage to the engine like the hateful egr.
I used to work for a company (Eminox) that retrofited busses and made them complient, so could by possible on cars but might be cost prohibitive
May need to be re registered which would or should show up on the camera as compliant.
If I were younger I would just investigate a little more and go out of my way to find the most obscure loophole I could just to make them work for the money.
Congestion charge only applies to DRIVERS. A DRIVER as legally defined is someone ONLY who is driving in COMMERCE, ie. taxi, haulage, bus etc.

It’s too expensive to be alive can we opt out? I heard hell has better weather.
Here’s an interesting point.
I own a Citroën Saxo which I have owned from new. It was registered 1st of January 2001.
I received a letter about 18 months ago for TFL saying my car ‘Might’ be compliant with ULEZ but because the euro standards didn’t come into effect until March 1st 2001, I would have to get a certificate of compliance from the manufacturer as the information was not on my V5 documentation ( but would have been from March 2001)
I duly contacted Citroën/ Peugeot and coughed up an eye watering £200 for literally an A4 sheet of paper with all my vehicles details on it and Emailed it to TFL who in due course agreed the vehicle complied and is classed as an ‘Early adopter’
Now here’s the interesting thing,
MY car is classified as Euro 3, not Euro 4 which is what you would expect as it’s a car and not a motor cycle.
Also, a friend has a Peugeot 206 1.4 ( petrol) on a 54 plate & HIS car is compliant, it had the necessary proof of compliance on the V5 from new, but his car is ALSO Euro 3.
It sort of makes this categorisation for cars a nonsense.
How can a car be compliant on a motorbike classification?
( not that I’m complaining).
Zapho: have you checked out the Govt. web site - I bet it is NOT compliant, as all cars pre - 2016 seem not to be . . . I think you may have to cough up. 🙄

As for qty of whees around that weight, yes, you may find it is partialy a motorcycle .
Do some homework on it. Lets face it, it is hard enough to get around London at 30mph anyway without a motorbike so why pay more.

My wife's car is a 02 Focus and it is ok for the ULEZ, you don't need to buy a £10,000 car to beat this, hope this info might be a help to someone, don't just think "I'll have to just pay it" 5 days a week 48 weeks a year (you should get 4 weeks holiday) is £6,600 a year, you might as well by a car that complies, that way you get a newer car and they don't get your money, remember an 02 03 Focus would be around £1,500 better than £6,600.
...and how long do you think it will be before they 'upgrade' the ULEZ banning ALL IC-engined cars?
And looking ahead, to the theoretical point when all cars are compliant EVs, do you think all those cameras and the investment that went into them will be allowed to become unprofitable?
This is exactly what it is: a tax grab by stealth under the name of 'savi g the planet' - and of course anyone who doesn't want to save the planet MUST be insanely evil and should be cast out of decent society.
the part that i hate is khan wants london pollution free yet has the power stations outside london that will run the electric cars,
What about electric cars that are charged from power stations using Gas. That's not clean.
My car is 2012 car. Also had a new engine few years back and the car is super good for fuel consumption.
It’s painful to sell the car for peanuts.
I uploaded for sale and withdrawn my decision.
I rather let my car to park and get rusty.
Did you really expect that a 2012 car was going to be worth anything today? That was optimistic.
RLJ at 0:32? 🤔
Easy - just don't go there - evacuated from there many years ago, will not even work there. I get paid far less, but my life is so much better. But then i am one of the lucky ones.
As to your advise - yep we all have enough money to just get rid of our cars and then pay out for another one.
i agree with him there is pollution in London you don’t need a big 4 x 4 car to drive in london or any other parts of major cities a small electric car is enough for anyone unless you a trades man doing jobs for example carrying tools and so on which i think they shouldn’t pay Ultra Low Emission Zone tax and the same for commercial vehicles like lorries and buses but the normal person don’t need big cars . whats the point of driving a big 4 x 4 they off road cars they designed for off road driving not driving down a street in London at 20mph in traffic
im sure the ulez will go through as Sadiq Khan’s is chairman of c40
There is existing legislation that the government who oppose this, unlike Labour, can use. They did something similar squashing the Scottish Gender Recognition Bill.
When are you going to tell us what we don’t already know
ah but what your not highlighting and which I was going on about ages ago -
Me -- 'You think there wont be a Euro 7 or Euro 8 engine ?'
Now it transpires I was correct, in 2025 they will bringing in the Euro 7 engine restrictions.
Unfortunately I drive a diesel van with a euro 5 engine, so its 12.5 for me just to go to the shops. Here is the thing 95 + % of cars arent affected by the Ulez restriction. There is about 1 van for every 10 cars and pretty much every van is/was affected. Ultimately of course it wont make the slightest bit of difference in the short term and all that was needed was legislation at the government level on new vehicle engines requirements then let natural wear and tear and replacement run its course.
Always used tube for London anyway.
Mate, the first car you mentioned - you got wrong. A petrol gen 2 Honda crv meets ULEZ emissions... smh
We need a referendum for the London mayor now .this is only excuse for taxing the people.
How to beat the low emission zone 7 min video - buy an ugly Merc that you didn't want anyway, 30 seconds. Flog the car you have with us 6.30
Give the title and you being at least in part a classic car site, you might have mentioned the classic exemption.
Pointless Video 🤨
Watch RUclips video on new silencer that removes all harmful emissions only water vapour is released into the atmosphere regards Graham Flowers
I used to do 5000 miles a year in my van in London, but it is old and fails the emissions test. I have bought new and now do 150000 miles per year in London but am alright as it meets the emissions requirements. I do care about the environment.
Do you agree with the congestion charge as well because that affect you
So where do air planes stand in terms of pollution, they have no pollution filters with 100's flying over London each day, do they have to pay ulez? No!
