They train together. They swap personnel and techniques . They exercise jointly. Some go on secondment for a year. They're basically two sides of the same coin. The main difference is that you could walk past an SAS guy in the street and he wouldn't stand out. US SF guys tend to be bigger units. 🤣

you're right, my bad there bro, thanks for the catch. The 74 actually has a 5.56 mm round like our M series rifles. I've never seen any other model other than the 47 or 74, but Im not really a gun nut or anything I just go by what I have to deal with :P haha

It's only training, that's why it's during the day.

We've been in the testing phase for a little while for a new assault rifle. I believe right now Heckler and Koch is winning (from what I got to see of the rifle I want them to) right now the standard is the M4A2 or higher series, a couple years ago it was the M4A1 and before that the M16. We improve...slowly but still haha

Most Rangers expect for RRD (Ranger recon) are basic airborne qualified, not Halo. Special Forces in the US refers to US Army Special Forces, which is a unit; mostly known by their nickname the Green Berets. So Rangers, SEALs, Pararescue are not Special Forces, there Special Operations Forces (SOF). Other then those small mistakes, pretty good documentary.

He was traded from the Rangers to SAS, trained with them and at a time was "acting troop leader" so I will not say you were wrong.
Although he never commanded the SAS in action, he did consult on the Iranian embassy in 1980.

do you mean SOE, cause OSS was American

it is pretty good but to all non American viewers I believe it makes perfect sense. The term special forces to all of us does not refer to one unit of the US army, rather to any unit with a very high level of training and ability.
To refer to the green berets it is always possible to just call them the green berets, or army special forces I suppose.

Eagle Claw was such a shitshow. Better not to attempt it than have this outcome. Don't think even the SAS would've gone ahead with it. Plan was bonkers from the outset.

And then the Americans got back a veteran with SAS experience and started Delta, it is quite a story.
Did you know him? Just curious cause you obviously care about getting this straight.
As far as the Rangers comment blame wikipedia's phrasing.
Hell of a guy though and it really couldn't matter less what each unit was called. I'm sure anybody (and any profession) would have been glad to have him. In the end, it is a matter of character.

That's actually not very true. If you look at history we are the ones who equipped and trained what would become the taliban back when they were fighting the Russians. They fight like hell and they know what they are doing, and the AK series rifles (47 and 74) have a larger caliber and are usually more reliable than our M seires rifles.

The british coined the term commando, and hamburgers do get there name from the city of Hamburg. Special forces are special the world over, does who started this chapter of specialized warfare really matter? I mean the Spartan hoplite (oplites/οπλίτες) forces were VERY special for there time. How about Japanese ninjas for clandestine operations. We are all products of the past and the innovators of tomorrow's history

Actually, special forces can be traced back all the way to Ancient Greece. It was the Munich Olympics Hostage Murder that actually prompted the UK to mould the SAS to take on this role.
