    I've met Tin from kaon way back at a qld camp. Hes a top bloke and his engineering passion comes through with the products he produces and his constant innovation. I love his products and supporting local aussie design and manufacturing.

    Gday Nathan. Yet another informative, thorough and well presented video on such an important aspect of overlanding. Thanks so much for your efforts.

    Well presented Nathan
    I have an almost identical setup except I use quick release brackets for the 30 sec awning which allow you to mount across two rhino rack beams
    You can then easily fit under your low garage door
    My solar panel is 180w with STS quick release brackets, I can now park in the shade and have my panel in the sun negating the need for an additional solar blanket
    FYI I also placed the Victron smart voltage regulator under the bonnet to isolate the lithium starter battery from the bcdc charger

    Would love to hear more about your time and tips using the RV series by Oztent.. many families use these when first starting out but they can be hard work!
    And after all the Sh*t canning that Rhino rack / platform got its hard to get an objective view on them now.. seems all the grief was from models riveted on.. crazy when most cars have factory bolt points... are the pioneer racks ok if using factory mounts..? everyone still seems to use them..

    Is it because the solar panel has a regulator on it? The bcdc charger regulates solar also? Doubling the solar regulation? Just a thought. Your old panel wasn’t regulated.
    Maybe something to look into.

    • @AP-hf9gs
      @AP-hf9gs 2 года назад +2

      This happened with my setup. Need to drop the regulator on the solar panel and let the DC DC do the work.

      This is the comment I was looking for. It was hard to tell because I didn’t get a decent look at the back of that new panel BUT it looks like the panel has a regulator glued to the back of the panel and I’m assuming the panel wires go straight into that unit then wires come out of it to the connecting plug that Nathan cut to link to his wiring via an Anderson plug. That’s the issue.
      Nathan, you need the Raw panel power directly to the BCDC, it can’t go via the panels (cheap regulator) as that will only confuse the BCDC. You need a panel that you can ditch the regulator off.
      👍

      Learnt all this off RUclips watching videos and doing research on solar and batteries.

    Be interesting to see what the charging problem is. I’ve seen a few vids on various Renogy products and as always, not all of them are positive. Panels either work or they dont. If you haven’t already, try it with another solar controller. If you’re like me, you might have a cheapie lying around. Great video. Thanks

    Hola Nathan
    Watching from Spain today…
    Great thanks for your all time very informative vids.
    Saves me from mistakes, not we’ll spend money.. and seeking new gear and products.
    Since I haven’t bought a roofrack till today, guess will end up with 2 choices… front runner or ARB slime line.
    Both in Melbourne located and will see some more comparison from others..
    Does it makes any different if the inner boards are a length or across mounted ???
    And I still carry the idea to build a slide out to the front for a framed solar panel let’s say 100W.
    Please keep up with adding more nice interesting things to your set.
    Cheers

    Another great vid - awesome channel - one of the best! Quick question off subject please. Re the 200 series dusting issue. What grease do you recommend for improving the air filter seal. K&N make a dedicated air filter sealant grease - but it's petroleum based and petroleum based grease might degrade the rubber seal around the Toyota air filter. Silicone is best for rubber but I'm not sure about being suited to higher temp? Any concerns about certain types of grease impacting on sensors? Thank you.

    Nice, just on the caos box on the roof, what else could you store in there for camping? Seems very shallow and not much useable space?

    Great work, another quality vid. Did you think about mounting the maxtrax to the lid of the storage box to free up more space on the roof?

    • @willstaier3385
      @willstaier3385 2 года назад +1

      I’ve mount my maxtrax to the top of the box. I only have 2 up there on top and the lid still opens with the gas struts. Couldn’t comment on if there was 4 up there.

    I am currently reconfiguring my roof rack. Ideally I would do the same with my four Maxtrax mounted next to my awning. I was concerned about having so much weight on one side. Do you have any issues with it? You might want to check the weight limit of your Rhino rack offroad. I think it is only 70kg (I could be wrong :) ).

    Love your vids, thanks for putting so much time and effort in. Agreed entirely with your comments on 30second Awning. I've got.same for exact same reasons. Love it. I use all renogy gear for my rear Lithium aux setup, except the solar panel. I've had another mate do comparisons and found the renogy panel for some reason significantly lower output compared to the equivalent size.
    Check our channel for a peek at our 200 if you're keen ;)
    Cheers and keep up the great work!

    Interesting video. Why do you consistently use of the slow "duck walk" into the camera every scene. Its odd.
