The crystal alone is worth twice the price. The display back is going over the top about it. This has got to be the best bang for the buck in the world right now.

Wearing mine now-black dial on a bracelet-several months in and zero problems, keeping perfect time-it’s a beautiful watch and an incredible value.
Yup, I have the black dial bracelet version as well, working about year and a half now with no issues and decent time keeping (+7s/day).
How is the bracelet?

@@nabkawe the watch came in! I got the starking AM0269, it's a bit bigger and has a glass back so you can see the automatic movement. It's my first automatic watch, and my first dress watch. I own a Timex which I wear daily so it's nice to have something different.
The starking is amazing for the price though, I'm surprised it's as good as it is.

I've using a Starking for the last 6 months or so. It came well regulated. It runs +3 seconds per day, well inside the -4/+6 COSC range. Not bad for a $50 watch.

I have owned one for the past 3 months. Bought mine on a Stainless steal bracelet. I have loved it totally. Changed it straps a couple if times and it works and looks amazing. It's become my go to dress watch. And yes it is a high beat movement. It keeps great time. Good build quality and good finishing

The truth is, most normal people wouldn’t know the difference between “Star King” and “Grand Seiko”.
The Supermanning that was my logic buying a Seiko cocktail time instead of a GS. I should have got this Starking instead :-)
It hurts how true that is.
If you want most normal people to recognize your watch and perhaps impress them, then buy a Rolex. If you wanna impress yourself then buy a Grand Seiko. If you don't care about impressing anyone, yourself included, then buy a quartz Casio. Or this Starking. :)

I have this watch for almost 1.5 years and it is still as good as new. Movement is sweet and accurate, I got mine on a bracelet and black dial. Superb watch
and to be honest, it feels even more solid than some 100+ japanese watches.. (seiko, orient, citizen)_

I own this exact Starking model with the addition of a metal bracelet and I gotta say it’s a very impressive watch for $50. High beat movement, sapphire crystal, and also a hacking feature is very impressive.
How can they sell these with a sapphire so cheap? They must be using child labor!

For everyone watching this, don't do this. Never use quick set date, between 9PM and 3AM, since the date switch might actually be already engaged depending on movement (usually it's just 23:00 up to 00:00, but better safe than sorry). So you will always want to set tome and move the hands until the date changes, then move time past 3 AM, set the date and then the time.
The value on that is amazing. I've got a Seiko which cost 7 times as much and doesn't have the date centred in the window. And I have an Omega which cost...lots...and doesn't have well-accentuated positions on the crown stem for setting date and time. So this wins one on both counts.
I own two versions of this watch and they keep wonderful time! Unbelievable value.

Based on this review, i got myself a black version of this watch.
Well I am fairly pleased with it. It doesn't look that luxurious but it is well made and comfortable on the wrist. It is hackable and windable so I am very impressed.
The crown does not wind that smoothly but I can live with that as long as it keep time well.
I shall use this as my daily beater watch. Nothing annoys me as much as micro and mini scratches on the watches i love. I hope this sapphire crystal will reduce those scratches.
For the price, I think it is great value.
Thank you for this review, it’s great when really professional watch reviewers take the time to review a budget watch like this without any negative pre conceptions. China is amazing, every now and again a Chinese product really surprises me and makes me hopeful that overall quality of Chinese export goods is improving, but really it’s just fulfilling demand, there is a lot of global demand for extremely cheap watches so that what Chinese companies do a lot of, but there is clearly a demand for this kind of products so some Chinese companies step up and fill that gap in the market.

Just received one in the post today. Mine came with bracelet, black ‘leather’ strap and a tool to remove links from bracelet. I paid just less than £32 from Ali express. It feels good quality but as you say only time will tell. Sapphire crystal, high beat movement and unusual case shape (in profile). Very impressed so far.
I have 2 of these, one with a white dial and one with a black dial. I have had them for almost a year now with no issues. It is a solid watch! Good review.

A suggestion: You should invest in a Timegrapher 1000. Then you can check accuracy, bph etc in a couple of minutes. It would improve your rewiews. Cost about 150 US$ at Amazon.
I received a Timegrapher 1000 for Christmas. I find it fun to play around and compare accuracy around the different brands I own. It was surprising that some less expensive brands were just as accurate as the more expensive brands!
As your minimum purchase point for recommendation is $100 a $50 watchband on a $50 watch would make a wonderful starting point for those on a tight budget who value the appearance of the watch on the wrist. Phillip J
Everybody should have one of these, they are astonishing value for money. Bin the supplied strap and replace with a good quality one and you have a nicely designed hacking hand winding high beat sapphire crystal dress watch for £70. Can't argue with that.
£70? You can get it for much less, under £40, which makes it even better!

If they had to cut costs to get it in that 50 dollar price range im glad it was the strap. It makes sense to cut costs on a part that's very easily replaced.

I have the black dial with the solid links metal strap that even costed me less than the price you paid. It is really amazing how can they do such a watch for that price. Only the metal strap I have on mine would cost me more than the whole watch. Is more accurate than my Orient sub 200 watches, just don’t how long it will last... But it seems a very solid piece.

Starking and Cadisen are some of the best bang for your buck watches available. There's some good quality watches coming out of China on AliExpress etc.
cadisen is good stuff. starking is crap. sort of surprised jory doesn't call it like it is. he loses some cred with me.

Some of the Chinese Aliexpress watches have amazing specs for the money. Sapphire crystal, 316L stainless steel, sometimes a Seiko movement etc.
This isn't one of those. This is a legitimate old school watch maker from China, and they make their own movements. From what I can tell they are insane quality for the money and not mass produced to the degree that a lot of other affordable but quality brands are. There's a certain human touch to these things that you would generally expect in a much more expensive watch. If this was made anywhere but China it would be at 10 times the price.

I bought the black version a year or so ago. Liked it very much. Wore it in my rotation for a few months. I then gave it to my friend as his first automatic watch. It doesn't resist shock well. He was wearing it every day for a month when the second hand detached from the centre of the movement.
That said, it would be fine for its normal application, a slim, attractive dress watch for a good price.
It impressed me so much, I bought the AM0239 in Blue on Amazon last New Year's, and have worn it in the rotation ever since. Starking is an impressive Chinese brand for the money.
Just purchased one of these, 55$ on a stainless bracelet, and worn for just a day.
Have to say, very impressed. The watch just looks good. It has a good heft to it, and very much matches my wrist sizing. Bracelet is just a slight bit jingly; I am considering a leather strap, but will give the stainless a bit more time.
Honestly this watch is as-advertised (so far). Lord knows if this Chinese movement will hold up, if this sapphire will hold up, etc. But for 55$ I really can't complain. Hacking, hand winding, automatic, sapphire, classic styling, high beat movement, good finishing, and your watch snob friends haven't of this brand. You could do way worse for an entry level dress watch. I'll likely still grab a Bambino one day, BUT I do recommend this Starking.
Jory, this is a nice watch. I have a smaller wrist and it fits fine. The cream dial matches a pile of straps. It works for the office and you don't have to baby it. Some dust inside is annoying, but you have to get close to see it. Thanks. Better prices on AliExpress
Im wearing this right now and I love it. The strap is not comfortable I agree. What I noticed is the first time I set it, I started setting the correct time and then the date. That was wrong. The date didn't change. I found out that I had to set the date one day behind, then switch to time setting and rotate to correct date and the set the correct time. Now it's just perfect. I love it.

I bought one because of the price and it's nice! If your a guy that just wants a nice looking watch to wear to church or weddings when they pop up then this is a great watch for the person that just needs a dress watch from time to time.
Really enjoyed the review and it is nice to see that you dont just judge watches by the brand name but for the specs you get in these watches. I agree that you can get a decent watch for small amount of money and regardless of the brand. All in all-a great video, keep it up👍
I recommend buying it from Alie Express. Mine came with a very good bracelet and the leather strap as a bonus. The bracelet is really nice with a butterfly clasp and its solid end links, which is very comfortable. It is also , with coupons less than $45 with free shipping. Granted, it does take almost 2 months to show up with Covid-19 restrictions. I absolutely love it. Your reviews very accurate.
Starking seem to have really gone up in price since this review!
I have the black version with stainless steel bracelet, the bracelet is decent with butterfly clasp, and it does have a 28800 movement.
I have hit the wall and tables with it and it has kept up well, wearing it 3-4days a week for 2 years, mine has a power reserve of about 38.5~ hours

I bought one of these last year. Unfortunately the minute hand got stuck occasionally, so it really couldn't hold time at all. I suspect it has loose cannon pinion, but I havent managed to open the watch from the dial side to try to fix it. Seconds were ticking super accurately though. Basically solid watch for the price, but it has some qc issues. Now I might rather go for their AM0171 model with Miyota movement. That's only $56 on Aliexpress.
If the Starking impressed you, wait until you see a Cadisen C1032 or a Guanqin gj16034...

Hey Jory, thanks for looking at the Starking, I've added the AM0184 to my list of possible targets and have been looking now at the brand. I mentioned it to my wife and she bought me the AM0222 and wondered if you'd seen it? The double open-heart dual spring movement is really interesting and looks pretty cool if you like skeletonized faces. Their marketing is a hot mess, though, and I'm questioning the 'sapphire glass' claim, because if you look at the history of their Amazon listings, they claim the AM0222 for instance has two tourbillons in it, which it clearly does not. The listings on these watches also seem to consistently have a lot of inconsistencies in them, like listing the bands as having double foldover clasps when they are on a leather strap with a standard buckle. Lots of other little issues that make me wonder if it is simply a translation and sloppiness issue or if something else is going on. But the watch is hefty and I think looks really cool, so for the price I can handle if it's not quite what they're claiming for a freaking automatic movement.

I picked up one of these on sale out of curiosity. The date doesn't change and the crown is nail breaking hard to move. And there is no distinction between wind and date position so I'll be winding and date changes randomly... at least it was cheap.
Jory- my wife and I has the His/Her pair of this very model for 1.5 years. Now I don’t wear a single watch daily and wear this one a few times a month but my wife wears hers to work 3-4 days a week and the only thing that has broken after a year was a screw came out of her butterfly clasp on the bracelet (shiny and solid end links) that I replaced from Esslinger.

I am a collector of cheap watches. I have quite a number of cheap automatics.
The accurate ones I have are those running Seiko 7S36 and ETA 2824. My Seiko 7S26, Miyota 8200 and Unknown brand China movements including this StarKing are more than 10 sec off per day. I like the looks of this StarKing though. But i wont wear it for a week long holiday knowing it may be off a few minutes. But then maybe i am just unlucky to get an inaccurate one.

Never have been a watch person. Then I bought a Seiko Solar Chronograph, now that I lost it, I just feel incomplete and dived down a watch rabbit hole.
Currently unavailable on Amazon. Gold, silver and black faces are available on models sold on AliExpress, although that microscopic date window is located at 4:30.
I have the black dial with bracelet variant and I love it. The first one I ordered was DOA but Amazon took it back and the second one I received works perfectly. The bracelet is quite nice and has solid end links. You're lucky that your date window is lined up nicely. Mine is not and most I've seen are not. I wish the second hand was a bit longer and my date window lined up. I can definitely overlook these things for $50 though.

You should never change date before knowing for sure that it's not near midnight...
Also: check out Deep Charge watches from Watch Shop. Ceramic bezel insert, sapphire Crystal, 200m, Seiko mvt, divers extension, solid endlinks, screwed crown, 40mm width and quite nice clasp for less than 130$!!! Yes: 130 USD.
There is a video on this watch with a watchmaker talking it apart and telling you it is not good. Put it on a time grapher and see the amplitude and beat errors and it ran like crap, but then again he could have had a dud.

Crazy what you can get if you do your homework. Just got my Chinese Ali Express Carnival ...J.L.C Geographic 4 or 5 complications blue dial watch feel and looks amazing and looks like the JLC for 70 buck . An the movement looks fancy and it came in a nice box .🤯🤯🤯

Andrej Georgievski yes I saw that, not too abnormal for a “starter” not highly finished hacking movement even it is a high-beat movement. Also, if you are moving your finger a little left or right while pushing in the crown it can also do that with most entry level autos

its movement is a miyota 24 jewels high beat movement.. the brand is not popular tho but the watch itself is really reliable..

If you take the measurements with the caliper and zero it out while you're measuring the watch, then you probably would be able to close the caliper and it should show the measurement, that way you can show the viewers and we won't have to take your word for it :)

I bought this for sh!ts and giggles about a year ago and its still running strong. Sometimes I wear it at the gym and bang it on bars and metal plates, by accident of course and aside from superficial scratches, there is nothing wrong with it. I changed the original metal strap for a nato.
I’ve had the rose gold with blue second hand version for a little over a year now. It’s on on a gray Fluco pig skin leather band with rose gold buckle. While I like the watch I wish I’d gotten the stainless steel for its versatility. I’d probably wear it a few times a week.

if you slow down the video you can count the ticks, i think i'm counting 6bps? Need to go to a point with a good angle, like 9:38 or so.
WOW thats a crazy good deal on that watch. Heck it could be the BEST watch to buy as a "first watch" or a "beater mechanical". Hand wind AND hacking, on top of which everything seems to be made and fitted well.
You should review a Heritor watch! They have some cool looking budget timepieces
Time teller, once corona settles down, you should travel to japan and make videos on the special watches you can find here. I currently live in Japan as a uni student and even at discount stores, they have some quite impressive japanese stuff that i think you'd like.
