Great you mentioned the end of ‘Where Did you sleep last night.’ He takes a deep breath and he has that somewhat disconcerting look in his eyes. It’s quite a moment.
Nirvana…and it’s not even close!😀
Light years
I’d have to go with Nirvana on this one. It’s way more of an iconic performance than AIC.
AIC opened for Kiss in the summer of 1996. The unplugged took place in April of 96, so AIC last performance was actually July of 96 in Kansas City
Yeah, I think there were three AIC performances after Unplugged, but some of their best tracks that were included in Unplugged weren't played at any of the remaining shows. So some of the Unplugged tracks were the last time they played them with Layne.
Nirvana and rare the best is the one you can actually buy.
AIC hands down. Truly acoustic. Even KISS said that MTV told them they could not use effects and had to play completely acoustic. Yet, since Nirvana were such darlings to MTV, that they allowed them to use effects. Example, the biggest single from it, The Man Who Sold The World. AIC, much better at playing acoustic. Better harmonies too. Layne and Jerry sound awesome together.
AIC for me. We already know the music is fantastic. But I remember the first time I watched this and I see it every other time I watch it. Knowing what Layne was going through. It makes it almost more impressive on his ability. Also, there are a few instances where Jerry looks over to Layne to comfort him, reassure him, and smile at him telling him he’s doing a great job. I think the whole band was rooting for him at that time and I think they all knew how special that night had become.
I’d go with AIC… that being said I was disappointed they didn’t play ANY of their songs from Facelift, which would be more entertaining in unplugged acoustic versions as they were so heavy. Nirvana also should have played Smells Like Teen Spirit. These two are 2 and 3 for me, but Tesla 5 Man Acoustical Jam is the GOAT of the “unplugged” albums, even though it wasn’t an “MTV Unplugged” album
Totally agree that AIC starts so much stronger but does fade towards the end of the performance. Nirvana the opposite but AIC > Nirvana.
These are probably the 2 best Unplugged performances. The Aerosmith one was up there too!. I would still pick AIC to be the best.
Aerosmith is a very underrated Unplugged performance.
Both are amazing albums, don't think I can choose between them.
It's definitely a hard choice IMO
Almost a tie. I prefer to listen to the AIC album, but prefer watching the Nirvana live show.
Do they have new pressings of AIC unplugged?
Alice in Chains is my favorite band and I would pick Nirvana. The end of Nirvana and the feelings in the air were just different.
There was such a finality about the Nirvana Unplugged performance that there wasn't with AIC.
I would have said AIC for years but the actual correct answer is Nirvana
AIC 💯
I think Nirvana's had more impact initially because of how new the band still felt to a lot of people and how the cover songs showed something different from them and shortly after because of the death of Kurt/the band. AIC's came after longer time with popularity, had only one new song, and though it was an ending to their time with Layne, no impact was felt for years due to Layne being alive and their new song releases in 1998 (one many years old, two new, but I thought all were new Layne AIC at the time.)
What was one of your favourite Nirvana songs that you would’ve like to hear? I couldn’t understand it😅
AIC all the way by miles
Alice In Chains Unplugged has always been my favourite all time MTV Unplugged performance of all time, but Nirvana's performance comes a respectably 2nd place. The only thing I wish we would have got from the AIC performance is a few tracks from Facelift. It's always been a bit baffling why there wasn't any tracks off that album included. I was wondering if they thought some tracks would not translate as well to an acoustic performance, but there's some heavier tracks from Dirt and their 3rd album (Tripod), which work great.
Both performances are legendary but I would pick Alice too! Too bad we didn’t get Unplugged 2’s!
AIC and it isn’t even close IMO.
AIC 100%
I wish they put heart shaped box on it
Definitely!
AiC > Nirvana
You all know that Nirvana was a single take but Alice In Chains was full of retakes. NIRVANA was lightyears better than AIC.
not a chance in hell. you have you opinion but i strongly disagree they are not even in the same comparison not even the same realm
I never read anywhere that AIC had multiple takes, but I know other performers who did, so I wouldn't be surprised. Even if they did I don't think it would change my opinion of the AIC album.
You talk WAY to fast.........the intro.
