Dogs don't need rice, its just a cheap filler. Why do so many people give their dogs rice???

True they don't. When I made this video my old Beagle dog could not process a lot of heavy animal protein so it did well for her and I used organic. Kept her healthy and at a good weight. She has passed on now, lived to 16 1/2. I have reduced the organic rice by 1/2 with the dogs I have now. I may change that up again.

I use lentils or black beans. No rice.

Thank you for taking the time to post how you prepare your pup food. I agree it does take time. We rescued a two month old golden doodle, he is now 14 months. When we got him home he came with big bag of kibble and some canned food which he did not like. We were hand feeding it him it to get him to eat. We knew this was not going to be sustainable for him. We looked at other what options we had online and came across Just food for Dogs and Farmers dog, we tried them and he ate up everything. Only thing was that it would become so expensive to keep him on purchased fresh food. So I looked at the ingredients they used, then I saw they had DIY recipes, so I decided on the DIY with their vitamins packets. We kept him on the chicken recipe for his first year and recently moved over to turkey, beef, continued chicken with chicken, beef liver, gizzard, assortment of recipes from reputable veterinarians on youtube. We vary ingredients, we add sunflower, omega. Krill oil, ground up sesame, sunflower seeds, flax meal, variety of mushrooms the fruit part in powders, bone powder as toppers before feeding. We use sweet potatoes, pumpkin, quinoa, some brown rice, chard, spinach, peas, and so, so much more. We get him raw goat milk, he drinks this twice a day. There’s so much room for variety. Our pup is so healthy, he is about 25lbs and so, so strong, his physique is beautiful, he has such a well defined little body. His veterinarian said what ever we are doing to keep it up. I can’t see him eating any kibble, (he just doesn’t like it). So we are stuck making it. It is a lot of work, but we feel so good knowing he eats really, really well. So thank you for taking your time to post and show us. I understand you and appreciate what you do.

So glad you enjoyed the video. I agree, the home made food with all the natural healthy ingredients make all the difference with the dogs health and vibrancy! Just had my pups to the vet for their spring check up and the doggy chiropractor. Both were amazed in Max's transformation over this last year, from 25 lbs with difficulty walking to 13 lbs and running all over the place, walking for miles. It is a lot of work but I will continue to make the dog food as well! Hope your pup stays very healthy!

I cook it all together in a pot on the stove. Ground beef, sweet potatoes, carrot , brown rice. Sometimes I add in a bit of broccoli or peas , spinach etc.

    Freezer portions:
Have you noticed how long it takes to thaw?
Do you gently warm the food before feeding your pups?
I am new to all of this. Thank you for the video.

I have 2 dogs I am usually feeding, unless a granddog is visiting. I think the containers I use last about 3 days which I felt keeps it to having fresh, not spoiled food. So when one is getting low with a day left I take another one out of the freezer and let it thaw. I don't warm the food, just keep it in the frig. The dogs love it. If you do warm, I suggest not to use the microwave - destroys much nutritional properties of the food. Hope this helps! Just takes a bit to get into a routine with the whole thing.

@@goatsgardens thank you for responding. By mid September, I’ll be bringing home 2 puppies. Kiki will be 12 weeks old, Lula will be 9 weeks. I’ve been told both as adults will be 15-20 lbs. They are different breeds but it will still be nice for them to have each other along with me & my hubby. 😉 I did cook for my dogs in the past, but I have learned since their passing at 13 & 14 I did not know enough about added nutrition. It seems in the last few years the rage has been raw but, not sure that’s for me. I’m a suburban mom so grocery stores will provide the food ingredients & on-line for additional supplements. Thanks again.

I just started cooking food for our little Yorkie. She loves it! I have mixed kibble in, just so I can make sure she gets all the minerals and vitamins she needs. I am going to look into adding the vitamins and supplements to her food too. My cats also love this food I make so I think I will just quit buying canned cat food and give them the homemade food as well. Do you know if there is anything that needs to be changed for cats? Thank you so much for your video. I have groundthe egg shells into a powder, and added it to my Yorkie food for the calcium.Have you ever done that?
