Boot NVME SSD on Legacy BIOS motherboard - Using Clover

- You can actually boot any NVME SSD on any computer, as long as it got PCIE slot.
NVME SSDs use the PCIe bus (similar to the GPU graphics card). The PCIe bus has very good backward compatibility, so NVME SSDs should, in theory, be easily compatible with hardware. However, software compatibility is still an issue. The first step to using an NVME SSD is for the software environment to "see" it.
Windows 10 has NVME drivers by default. Windows 10 will always "see" the NVME SSD, no matter what machine it is running on (Windows 8.1 with later service packs also has this). So if you can get into the Windows 10 environment, the NVME SSD will be detected and can operate normally.
However, before booting into Windows, in the BIOS environment, only newer machines with NVME support have the ability to "see" the NVME SSD.
In summary, if a machine does not support NVME, plugging an NVME SSD via a PCIe adapter will not be able to boot into the Windows partition on that SSD because the BIOS cannot "see" the NVME SSD. It will not be able to see the Windows partition to boot. However, if you are already in Windows 10 (booted from another hard drive, for example), then you can use the NVME SSD because Windows 10 "sees" it.
The exception is some special NVME SSDs, usually older high-end models (such as the Samsung 950 Pro), which have a Legacy OpRom. When you plug in the adapter to any machine, it is recognized, fully supported, and can boot into Windows without any modification. Even the Pentium socket 478 can recognize it as long as it has a PCIe slot.
Preparation:
- Full tool file, download at (Google Drive): NVME Legacy.zip
- Windows 10 ISO file for installation. Windows 10 is recommended. You can also use Windows 7 but will need to load the NVME driver for it, more cumbersome
- Any NVME SSD and NVME to PCIE Adapter , it is recommended to use PCIE X4 or higher to ensure speed
- 1 USB 8GB or more to install Windows
- 1 Any USB to boot Clover (SATA hard drive can also be used)
- 1 Computer running any Windows
- Text editing software like Notepad++ or VS Code to make it easier to manipulate than normal Notepad

i get to the step boot from file and the windows usb is not showing
cannot continue installation process after 3.26. my clover cannot detect windows installation automatically.
I couldn't get clover to boot. The problem? I was using my newer computer to set up clover in and it would use new computer specs to set up the clock speed in the config file and it would crash the computer at start up 😂😂

So esperando chegar o ADAPTADOR NVME 16x pra fazer esse procedimento, confesso que já estava ficando desanimado, pois a minha BIOS é LAGACY HERDADO, é só via vídeo no RUclips em modo UEFI... Estava quase comprando uma Placa Mãe com Slot NVME.. Vou tentar fazer desse modo e espero que eu consiga !!! Obrigado vc foi o unico até agora que me deu uma luz .. Abraços !!

i greeting around 900 mb with crystal disk test
a huge upgrade compare to ssd connect with sata 2 - getting 230 mb - its 4 times better with the nvme !!!!!
you guys must create the windows 10 exactly like in the video.
the hard part is to find win 10 iso that is fit to fat 32 format .
i succeeded to install old and small win 10 that fit fat 32 and then update with another iso to newest win 10 22h
last question did you managed to install win 11 in that method ? ???????
no matter what i do i get blue screen - that darn win 11!

You mean your computer cannot boot into Clover and stuck at No boot media or something like that?
There is NO Windows usb in DUET menu. I recreated the stick on a hdd, still NO Windows stick. PLEASE help. There is no Windows to go option in the same version of Rufus, but different additional options. I created the drive once again with the newest version, but it won´t work. Is your video outdated?
I get to the step Boot From File but the only option is Clover. It's not recognizing the windows usb. Any idea?
after i exited from Clover it does not go into DUET mode... it goes back to my BIOS screen and it freeze there.
Hi, it worked for me until suddenly my Windows 10 installation was not showing up anymore. I reinstalled windows 10 again but the problem now is that the nvme is not showing up anymore. It shows in the windows installation but not in the clover menu. Please help me I can't get in my pc. Thanks

There is no Windows stick in DUET menu.
Install nvme ssd and my ssd speed show 750 write and 650 read which is very slow normally speed 1700mb/second what is process increase my ssd speed
Yeah, my Motherboard doesnt know what a UEFI is so installing windows 10 MBR with UEFI will just cause it to load forever. Ill try using Bios one

When you already in Windows, you can remove Clover USB. But you have to insert it to boot when you restart your computer
You can also use a SATA SSD/HDD as the Clover USB and just leave it in your pc

@@Fanez17 After created the Clover boot on the internal HDD, you can try to shrink the partition and create new partition for data

Hey.. I followed everything except that.. When I get clover boot screen.. I can't use arrows.. My mouse is working.. But when I exit clover.. Niether there is mouse nor the arrow keys work.. So Can't select boot maintanence manager.. What could the problem be?
Try to boot to Windows installer direct from Clover screen if you can see the partition with Windows logo listed

The Clover usb only works on the computer it´s been created on. But the Windows USB doesn´t show in Boot Maintenance Manager.
Did you figure it out? I got all the way to this step Boot from file and it doesn't show the windows usb for me either
@@THiNK103088 The OS type mbr/gpt was confused in the tutorial. Legacy did not work, but UEFI does.
@@SilentHillFetishist I was able to get past it buy reinstalling windows creation tool on the windows usb but unfortunately installing windows on the m.2 nvme ssd fail with an error code. After three days of trying to get this to work I gave up and just but a sata ssd to do boot from. It'll still be loads better than booting off the HDD 😅

I have also P5K-VM Asus motherboard, but I cannot run Clover :-( when I select run from USB flash drive by F8 - I got message that no system and after pressing any case Win10 is loaded from my SSD.
PS: I do everything according to the instructions.
Problem has been resolved. I have created Clover from other PC so it's work.

can i boot with newer gpu with this .. i mean gpu that has uefi requirement?
GPU? I think all modern GPU should work on older Legacy motherboard without any modification. They even hooked up a 4090 with a Core 2 Quad motherboard and it run just fine
@@npevn i use power colour red devil rx5700xt and cannot boot on my legacy motherboard .. they say this gpu require uefi .. i tried boot and refind but my gpu wont boot .. and now i want to try clover.. hopefully i can boot my gpu

i prefer bios mod, i had used clover but didn't make it, but with bios mod, just instant booting.
Yes, for UEFI BIOS you can mod the BIOS. But I dont see any document for modding Legacy BIOS for NVME
