Yes, it's great! It's such a shame that accurate records have not always been kept for every family otherwise we'd all be able to trace our roots. Glad you're enjoying the videos. Really appreciate the kind words.
Player ahead of his time. He was around 118kg but was indeed very dynamic in the loose. Was a suprise test selection at hooker in 92 ahead of Harry Roberts and Andries Truscott. Offered far more then both. No doubt would have gone to 95 WC if fit ahead of Gary Pagel.
A fine player. Loosehead was his best position. Strong scrummager and excellent in the loose with great mobility and ball skills. Injuries had a big impact on his career, unfortunately.
Definitely, and also a player a lot of people haven't heard about for a long time and maybe even forgotten I think. So it was great to be able to get him on the show. Nice guy too!
@Front Row Rugby Yes. We were blessed with a lot of talent at loosehead those years. Hills at the Bulls, Balie Swart and Heinrich Rodgers at the Lions, Johan Styger at Free State, Guy Kebble at Natal and Frans Erasmus at EP. Made selections difficult probably.
@@af9165 Yeah those are some superb players! It's incredible how our country just continues to produce wonderful rugby players in every position ... it's like a conveyor belt!
Nice interview 👍
Thank you so much, Sandra!
Great that Willie knows his Welsh heritage and very interesting that he was a power lifter. Lovely context to these legendary players!

In my opinion, Rugby was better in Willie’s day. Nice to reflect on - better times. Good to get old Boks on.
Thank you for the kind words. We must never forget our heroes!

Always sad when injuries curtail a player's career. He may well have been part of the 95 squad. But we'll never know hey.
