Hinotori (MSX2) longplay

- Knightmare-like shooter by Konami for MSX2 machines.
This one is less linear, but at the same time a bit loopy compared to other similar games. There are six mazy levels to navigate. Levels go around in an endless loop. Collecting keys is necessary to access doors and new areas and each level ends with a boss fight. Backtracking to early levels is necessary for collecting orbs, five in total and collecting all is required to get the last boss fight and ending.
Collecting items in levels grant effects such as invulnerability and time stop. Collecting torches gives points to for weapon upgrades or extra lives. Unfortunately there is only one tune for first five levels and one for boss fights, but the last level has new music.
Maps at vgmaps were big help for planning this longplay.
Juegazo.... exprimiendo el hardware de la MSX2
The music is so Metal Gear 1. I also keep thinking of the boss music from that game, when I hear the boss music in this game.
This is based on a Manga (or in the Anime based in the Manga I guess, since the soundtrack is from the Anime). The NES also has a Hinotori game from Konami which is nothing like the MSX game (its a platform game).
I love the soundtrack of this game. The game is pretty good and many people remember it as a "kind" of Knightmare clone indeed.
But this was *way* harder than Knightmare.
ILOVENORIKO as password gives you invencibility (same thing on Maze of Galious). I think "ILOVEHINOTORI" also works. and ENDDEMOGAMITAINA shows the ending (which I used a lot just to keep hearing the music :D )
Wow never knew it was based on a manga. Thanks
Epic masterpiece. From Konami golden years.
名曲です。
って、この方、操作メチャクチャ上手い・・・!
Knightmare vibe,,, love that
So THIS is where ZEMINA got their SFX and music engine from to make Super Boy 3...
Still going strong 😊
ステージ特性に合ったパワーアップが要求されます…。
GREAT!
Good
+einokeino303 With due respect, you may want to disambiguate "Knightmare" in your blurb since that was also an Atari ST / Amiga game by the legendary Ratt (Anthony Crowther) released around 1991 - I think you know the one since you seem au fait with a lot of 16-bit era titles. I was erroneously led here by that name since I get notifications re your channel in my email inbox! EDIT: Right, you meant Knightmare (1986). I did not even know that title since we did not have Japanese consoles in my country during those years - only Ataris, Commodores, PCs.
Yeah, I know about the RPG Knightmare as well. MSX systems had lots of games similar to this one and Knightmare is probably the best known title so I used that quick reference. I did continue the sentence with "shooter" so that should probably hint this game not relating to an RPG title on different systems. We had MSX machines here in Finland and I got to play some (Konami) games in the 80s, but not this one. MSX wasn't very popular in Europe. Not sure why you got email about my uploads, maybe it's a Google+ thing? :D
I believe I subscribed somehow for those, as I don't get them from any other youtube channels (and I'm glad I don't). That's because your channel provides worthwhile historical insights into games, which I develop for a living. There are so many titles I'll never get to play... youtube is a boon in that regard, especially channels like this that sometimes focus on the more obscure stuff. Re the "shooter" thing... doh.
That sucks, I wouldn't want to get anything from YT to my email either. I've been a bit lazy with this channel recently, but going to up some more videos this month, now that I've got the time. Thanks for sticking around and commenting.
Да всади ему "серию" на пробеле....
火乃鳥
That scrolling tho...
Konami has really fallen.
Laidok 2
Calling this superb Tezuka masterpiece-based game a "Knightmare" clone is so stupid and so nonsense that this even don't deserve a reply...
