Man, you can not imagine how I feel when a saw this game again!! Last time was in 1988. I am 31 y.o when I was 5 I played every day on my uncle´s MSX. Man you can not imagine how happy I am. See you playing was awesome. Thank you very much!
Ha! Took me about a year to finish this game. No cheating, no playing on Mame and saving, no Sir. I played and played on my Sony MSX- dying in late levels and biting my fist - till I mastered the friggin game & made it to the end. One of Konami's epic classics!
lovely childhood memories playing this game with my dad ... i think firebird from konami was a sequell to this one on msx2. damn , how time flies , im 42 now. cant imagine back then to play those games on a smartphone nowadays
Gosh. Even with such amazing skills you managed to die once. That game is truly hard. Me personally, when I was a child - I never got past level 3..... Only once, barely - and then I immediately caught a projectile.
I remember this game from my early childhood. I'm a big fan of Konami, especially the Castlevania series. I think the song playing over the first stage is awesome, and I fell that there is a lot it's influence in the Castlevania's soundtrack.
Yes, this game is running on an emulator, but bear in mind that this is played on a Japanese system which runs at 60Hz instead of 50Hz like European systems do, therefore it should run slightly faster. That being said, I'm not sure how accurately this is emulating an actual Japanese MSX1 system, because I only own an European one.
@@xxbeholderxx Everything about the game runs 20% slower on non-Japanese 50Hz machines. Anyway, I'm 99% sure that I died at least once or twice on this playthrough. I think I would remember if I could do this game deathless (it's on my to-do list for my Twitch streams).
Games were so much harder at that time, but somewhat I think that was unnecessary and frustrating. I think the way games are more accessible today made playing games more enjoyable and widespread.
Knightmare ==> Knightmare II Maze of Galius ======> ~Anubis and the Buried Bone~ My what a history lesson this has been, and all started by a porn game no doubt.
I played this to death as a kid. Even if some power ups and other things weren't very clear. Still enjoyed the fuck out of it. btw. awesome soundtrack. #NeverForget
oh wow! this game... me and my brothers used to sit in front of the TV all night long trying to beats it, only reaching the second boss and died. as a kid the 2nd boss scared the shit out of me the first time i saw it XD now it looks so silly lol!
Me too but i beat the game . It was one of the best game ever !!! . I disagree with u about looking silly now because it was in1986 (28 years ago). So even the best game now will look bad after 28 years but not silly imo i find even its fun to play because it will remind u of our childhood :).
jason freddy no don't get me wrong, i wasn't talking about the graphics as i'm still playing games with this 8-bit type of graphics and still loved them..." Retro City Rampage " for an example. i was pointing at that grim reaper boss, as a kid anything about ghosts and skeleton used to scare the shit out of me, now as an adult even games like silent hill is barely gave me jump scares :D
Haidar Dashti i believe it's still selling at the PS store, unfortunately, only in the Japanese PS store in a collection, i think the collection called MSX 8 in 1 or something.
I know what you mean. I remember seeing my brother and cousin playing this game back in the 80s and felt amazed by this game atmosphere. Although this type of game aged very well, today I can't say that I had the same reaction that I had when I saw it when I was a kid.
Their stats should be 100% the same. The only difference is that since you start off with arrows, it's slightly faster to get your arrows maxed out. That's not the reason why I prefer double arrows over double swords, tho. I'm just more of a bow and arrows type of guy. :)
challenge: converting this game to nes/famicom (there are Antarctic Adventure, Circus Charlie and Majou Densetsu 2 for nes/famicom, there are no excuses! :D )
The game is played on a Japanese MSX (60Hz) instead of European (50Hz) one, so that's why the music is a bit faster. This is how it's supposed to sound like originally.
Technical limitations. The background is made of 8x8 pixel tiles, and the original MSX can scroll only by a tile. Its CPU power was not high enough to rewrite the tiles per screen refresh for smooth full-screen scrolling. C64 and MSX 2 had scroll registers in their gfx chips for specifying an offset to the tiled graphics, which allowed smooth scrolling. It's amazing to think how much the tech has evolved since, in only 30 years or so.
One of the most difficult games ever. Extra unhandy is that you lose all your power ups when you die. Luckily you could use some poke's to circumvent the game play.
It's just epic. Part of my childhood
Ah that music! Great memories
Great skills, good to get these memories refreshed! Although I never made it further than the 2nd or 3rd level.

Finally I was able to see what the final boss looked like. I got so far but never that far. My life is now complete. Thank you
huahuahuahuahuahua
Konami's answer to Capcom's Ghosts n' Goblins, and a really good one at that.
中学生の時に遊んだゲームです、懐かしい
I love this game and its music.
I never had a chance to play this game in my childhood but now I miss that chance! Great game and very good music!
I can remember the 1st day having this adorable game .. i can even smell it
Ahhh here in 2024! Reminiscing 🎉
Probably i spent couple of years with my uncle to see the final boss :) Great memories from 80s. Thanks for this.
Thanks for playing! It’s best shooting game in 80’s.
The music is something awesome!
Great game!!! I've played a lot in my MSX Expert. Check this remix I just did: ruclips.net/video/p0I2VTDLjCE/видео.html
Bravo tu joues vraiment très bien..c'est le premier jeu qui m'a marqué musicalement

Uno de los juegos más jugable y adictivo que he probado en mi vida. Está en mi TOP 10.
Oh the original music, how I missed it, thank you!
You're the best. I still remember play it after school
Music is awesome!

Si, totalmente increíble, música acordes y sonido perfecta

Such a shame that it was never ported on the NES. It would've been really popular.
Thank you for uploading this video. I really enjoyed watching you beat the game. I wish I could play this game again...
Puedes jugarlo en un emulador, incluso hay emuladores online de msx
Beat this game when I was little. What a memory!
One of the best games ever. Beat it twice with VG8020 playing with cursors and 2 swords. Stage 6 was the hardest.
Gran Videojuego. 1978 (me born :X), next Salamander en MSX 1. :) Thanks japanese (japoneses, Uau! people doing It. So great.
Great skills! I love this Konami game!

A tad faster in music and possibly movement. Also wtf!! Did you just long play this without death!! Respect 🙌

@@TheMSXChannel oh cool I didn't know that! Thanks for sharing
thanx,,,, i didn't even reach the 3nd boss :p cause back then the music was scary to me, but not it is veryyy inspiring :) thanx
Fantastic skills! Best I ve seen in this game )))
LOVE IS FOREVER...
this game was so hard lol I still can't beat it
Han Solo true
Games were so much harder at that time, but somewhat I think that was unnecessary and frustrating. I think the way games are more accessible today made playing games more enjoyable and widespread.
I have just played it and it is just as hard and frustrating as it was in the early 90s. so of course I didn't make it very far lol
God masterpiece
Knightmare ==> Knightmare II Maze of Galius ======> ~Anubis and the Buried Bone~
My what a history lesson this has been, and all started by a porn game no doubt.
There is Knightmare III in the series, called Shalom. It was only released in Japan in 1987.
I played this to death as a kid. Even if some power ups and other things weren't very clear. Still enjoyed the fuck out of it.
btw. awesome soundtrack. #NeverForget

fareedbakhit i love this game nd im planning to play this theme with my brothers soon, i mean make a cover for it :]

Great Playthru - will you do a 2nd run with the warps? BTW: I did a LP in German about this game on my channel.
コナミの本気だった時代かな
oh how they kill the bosses are very impressive~~!!...
very very very nice
first game
Play it in my life 1992
Good times where had!
You seem to prefer the double arrows. What are their benefits and cons compared to the double swords?
Their stats should be 100% the same. The only difference is that since you start off with arrows, it's slightly faster to get your arrows maxed out. That's not the reason why I prefer double arrows over double swords, tho. I'm just more of a bow and arrows type of guy. :)
I always thought that fire arrow looks like a sheep.

IMO konami made this game very hard back in the days, no one wanted to exchange games with this one cause it was too hard to play hehe.
Is that shovel knight?
This gameplay is different from a PC version. It was much more difficult for me.
when the shield is yellow what does that mean ?
its been hit several times and about to dissapear
(after another hit)
So the knight mission is save the queen 👑
Oh my Gad
Never got beyond level 2 :D
Plays a bit like Dino Riki on the NES.
umm yes this is original speed
totally
新人類!?
Why everyone choose the swords? The boomerangs are much better to use, and they can kill everything in one hit.
Personal preference in my case. I generally enjoy swords over boomerangs, as far as game weaponry goes.
not the original speed but thanks
great music, pretty much impossible game though
(without emulation)
Great game!!! I've played a lot in my MSX Expert. Check this remix I just did: ruclips.net/video/p0I2VTDLjCE/видео.html
Music plays faster than the original :(
The game is played on a Japanese MSX (60Hz) instead of European (50Hz) one, so that's why the music is a bit faster. This is how it's supposed to sound like originally.
***** There was a command you could do in BASIC to make the European MSX2 go to 60Hz. I forgot what it was (too long ago) but I used it quite often!
Anyone notice Space Manbow has some of the melodies from Stage-2?
+Ein Stein VDP(10)=16
why is the scrolling so effed up

Go, Give desilusion to some people.
It's faster than I remember on my MSX. This probably runs on an emulator and is played slightly faster.

thanks Konami for this game thanks to all Japanese

I almost always play with a keyboard. I'm so used to them.
