    Been mowing 7 sandy acres in central Florida for 15 yrs with a 42in Murray 17.5 hp single cylinder Briggs I bought new in 2006. Ive patch up holes in the deck many times but the transaxle and engine still works and runs pretty good. A Gravely Hd should last about 50 yrs vrs the old Murray according to my beer calculator. I'm ready for change. Enjoyed your video very much🏁🍺

    My wife and I had our ZT HD 60 delivered yesterday (3/11/21) and we used it for the first time today in SE Arkansas. We upgraded from a 42” lawn tractor, and to say the least we were very pleased in our purchase. I was attracted to this mower by the beefed up commercial components used in its construction. I look forward to many years of service for this machine.

      Hey there Blake! I’m also in Arkansas but not as south as you. After a few uses, are you still enjoying it fairly well? And where did you buy yours? I’m considering driving 4 hours to Oklahoma to buy one because they do no tax to Arkansas residents and 0% interest. I have a place in my town that sells gravely but the mower is $100 more, there’s tax to be paid, and interest rate. Just wondering if you really are happy with your purchase

    I have a ZTHD 52 I bought in September of 2019 and have used it weekly during the grass cutting season with no issues. It easily cuts my 5 acres of grass. I have had zero issues with it. It has the FRV 691 Kawasaki 23 HP motor which sings like a Bee. Almost 130 hours on it now. Suggest running the Kawasaki oil it has in it when you buy it since it has Zinc in it for engine wear. At least for the first 10 hours of running or so.
    I added a hitch to it to pull a rather large Wood Chipper, 1300 lb hauler and a large Drop Spreader. No problems at all doing all these tasks.
    It's been a great machine and I hope it lasts me the rest of my life. Oh, and when the original battery dies replace it with the larger battery. The battery tray is for a U1 battery and it comes with a much smaller battery.

    Thank you for the review. The heart and soul of a mower is the mower deck. They can flaunt a big engine but a good company like Exmark and Gravely build an excellent deep deck which is important when you're cutting wet grass that grass has got to have somewhere to move in the deck. That mower of yours has a deep 5 inch Deck with the blades pulled back which gives plenty of lifting power and more room for the grass to move around if it is wet. I've been cutting Lawns for 25 years and some of these mowers like that Hustler whatever those other cheap models but decks on them are junk. You made the right decision.

    I just got one. Haven't used it yet but I know equipment and this thing is built pretty well. There are a few cheap parts that I don't love for the price of these but they are all parts that don't effect performance. The actual mower and the parts that matter are built very well. I do think for the price it should be fuel injected also. Overall tho looks like a nice machine can't wait to use it and I don't see any reason why it won't last me the rest of my life if I take care of it right.

    Considered Gravely ZT XL over the Arien’s iKon XD (same) at Lowes. I had the same concerns in regard to service. During my search for a zero turn came across Spartan mowers. Found a local dealer close to home here in Indiana and took a look at it. Wow….Night and day difference in frame construction. It also had the Kawasaki FR series engine. I've got this identical mower but 10 yrs older. My hour meter quit some years ago and I don't know the total number of hours. I'm guessing 1500-2000. I started looking for its replacement when I bought it and have sort of kept my hand in so to speak with what's new and current. My left hydro pump started making a bad noise a few days ago so I have stepped up my research. I recently decided on Toro. The equivalent Toro uses a Toro engine, not Kawasaki. 2200 series pumps not 3100 and Is +/- 120 lbs lighter too. I'm thinking I'm going back to my Gravely dealer.

    The one difference between the Apex and the ZT HD you didn't mension is the difference in the engine shroud. The ZT HD should be easier to do an oil change on. I took the shroud off to install the rear hitch on my Apex, and it is a pain. Its easier to use an oil sucker in the dip stick tube than trying to get the drain valve working without making a mess. Changing the oil filter is not fun. Suggestion: look at the factory manual and the parts diagrams to see the differences before you buy. I got the 52 inch mower because I didn't want a bigger trailer. Think about how you are going to get it to a shop if you can't work on it yourself. Because of the Ariens/Gravely on line store and catalog, the machine is not a parts orphan if you want to service it yourself. One last comment: The Ariens/Gravely blades use an abrasion resistant steel, so they hold an edge better than most. Think about saving a few percent with generic blades and doing twice the sharpening. Just another reason to skip most big box brands.

      My Gravely Rapid XZ also turned 14 years old this year. It was a demo unit that I bought in 2008. It too has the 27HP Kohler. As it was down for belt replacement and then it bit me ( 4 stitches in the top of the right index fingers ) I needed a mower that would do about the same. So I also bought the 2021 ZT HD 60. It doesn't ride as well as the Rapid but didn't cost as much either. Did add the suspension front forks and hitch plus the LED light kit is on hand to install. The Rapid XZ normally has the 60" deck on it but also has a 52" deck, dozer blade, and a snowblower. The Rapid will now become the backup mower and used for getting in spaces that the ZT HD can't.

      I might consider the Proturn Zx if I had 10 acres or if I were mowing several different properties. The only difference between the two that I know of is the engine (Kawasaki FX vs. Kawasaki FR), suspension forks on the zx, and maybe ROPS (roll bar). So the proturn really is made for a mowing business, whereas the hd is as good as you can get while still being considered a residential mower.

    • @TorqueWagon

      So, the isolated seat helps...a little. If you’ve got a lot of bumps in your lot I’d recommend upgrading to the full suspension seat. My grandpa recently bought one at a Gravely dealer for around $500. It’s something I’ll be considering, though I don’t see a need for it yet on my property. If you’ve only got 1 acre, you might consider the 48” or 44” deck and put the money you save into the full suspension seat.

      So, I recently moved and have a 30x60 detached garage now. I explain a little more about that in another video that’s not done yet.

    I warn you, unless been alot of upgrades it’s horrible. Ive got a 2019, cut quality sucks, clippings discharge is poor, cbt springs breaking, im on my 9th now, excessive beltwear, deck clogs easily, and blowout from under front of deck is bad. Me personally, will never buy gravely again. This was my 3rd gravely. They dont stand behind their product, only refer you to dealers. Ill ho with exmark next time. I know their quality far better

      the gravely engineered mowers are junk but the Ariens engineered mowers with the gravely name on them like the HD, Z and the proturn ZX are great mowers

      @@herman5eight Now would you like to know what my oldest Gravely designed mower's age is? I hope you are sitting down.................................................. It is 94 years old and still runs. Ariens didn't even exist when it was built. And my 1927 was built 11 years after BF Gravely got his original patent on the design. My next oldest Gravely that runs is a 1941. So Gravely engineering does last and their quality always was good with a few exceptions. When Ariens bought Gravely the quality went down hill for a few years until they learned their lesson and started doing a better job. If you bought any Gravely designed after 1993, it was all Ariens's doings.

    I have the 48" version of that. Constantly leaves stripes of uncut grass. JUNK

      The Kubota they use to mow the lot next to mine does the same thing. It might be a deck adjustment or a blade wear issue.

      What implications are you referring to? Marvel comics fan who grew up in the 80s and 90s? Could have just as easily been a Spider-Man, Captain America, or Deadpool shirt. Don’t try to read too much into it.

    3200 trans is way better than the 3100.

    • @TorqueWagon
      @TorqueWagon  3 года назад

      I would guess that’s why they use it in commercial mowers and the 3100 in the residential ones. If I remember correctly, the 3200 has an output of over 100 ft-lbs torque more than the 3100.

    • @gravelydon7072
      @gravelydon7072 3 года назад

      @@TorqueWagon They do but HG does consider the 3100s as Commercial duty units, 350 vs 470lbft. The interesting thing is that you can get three different models of the 3100 and 3200s. The difference is the gear ratio. So a 20 to 1 3200 vs a 27 to 1 3100 can make a difference in performance.
