Dan is a super chill dude from the few times I’ve met him and interacted with him. I’m glad he is writing the articles and doing format analysis. I feel he actually does research as well as understanding many of the formats as a competitive tournament player. It’s almost like they are having people who understand the game make decisions on the B&R list.

It turns out that Daybreak is baller and is letting people use QP's to enter vintage cube for the first week of the refresh. Didn't realize that the tournaments had PP/Tix entrance as well as the Qp so ill be using my Qp's there probably. Ponder seems like a good attempt to give decks an incentive not to play Saga and/or wasteland. Back in the day oath used to play 4x preordain to be more consistent. There were Preordain Breach builds as well.
Some of your candidates for unrestriction makes me a little nervous. But, at least half of it looks absolutely fine and it doesn't hurt to try unrestricting the other ones and see what happens.
I think they should make the ban lists as small as possible in other formats as well. I was a little surprised about some of the recent modern bans, for example. Some of the legacy and pioneer bans don’t make a lot of sense either. And if they get banned in standard WotC overlooked something obvious. Vintage could easily unrestricted ponder, brainstorm, and several cards like that but chalice of the void might be more problematic and gitaxian probe might be another to unrestrict since there’s multiple ways to pay 1 mana to draw 3 cards and people will even play a card that’s a 5 mana ancestral recall. Gitaxian probe in multiple copies is more like street wraith without a creature attached to it - pay 2 life, draw a card. The first one is more powerful because you can see your opponent’s hand but if you immediately follow that with a second gitaxian probe it’s a pyroblastable street wraith cycle. You already know what your opponent’s hand contains. In legacy there are cards that made certain decks more popular but if they unbanned some cards they’d add extra decks and those decks would be less popular. You don’t need to ban expressive iteration, w&6, Ragavan, dreadhorde arcanist, etc but it makes sense to ban things like black lotus and mox sapphire since it’s supposed to be “not vintage” and a little more affordable in paper, a little less broken, and so on. But Oko, Ragavan, and W&6? Modern had fury legal for like 1 or 2 years and it was perfectly fine. Not a single problem with fury being legal but then it got banned because “Rakdos scam is too popular and up the beanstalk is actually good with evoke spells” so they banned fury AND up the beanstalk. They didn’t have to ban either one. Maybe unban something else “broken” like hogaak or Deathrite shaman or something. Modern will become more diverse with unbans and doesn’t need bans like this outside of very specific time periods when it’s maybe 50% eldrazi and 50% anti-eldrazi and nobody is playing splinter twin, hogaak, izzet murktide, izzet phoenix, grixis shadow, Azorius control, jund midrange, storm combo, … maybe unban some cards and stop banning the ones that don’t matter. So they banned fury and up the beanstalk. This made another card legal for multiple years the new “problem” card and violent outburst isn’t even the most offensive cards in those decks. Making the good decks terrible sucks, just bring back other powerful strategies if Rakdos scam or leyline living end or leyline footfalls, or Omnath beans, or whatever becomes “too popular.” Bring back oko, bring back hogaak, bring back splinter twin, make ponder legal. The format is over 12 years old using cards from the last 21 years. It’s not pioneer. It’s not standard. It’s in the same place legacy was 2016 or something along those lines. It doesn’t need to be done like vintage but don’t treat it like pioneer. Pioneer just needs more cards in the format so that with 13 years worth of cards it isn’t such a problem to play veil of summer or Winota or Karn. Those cards seem broken in pioneer only because the answers to them are weaker or fewer. Balance by adding cards. And standard should have zero banned cards. If they can’t even figure out how to print 3 or 6 sets without destroying a format like standard they should hire someone who can. Also, I think they should keep with ideas like keeping each format feeling just a little different from the next. Like it’s okay to get “vintaged” in vintage but also a lot more fun to have games drag on 10-12, 20 turns once in awhile. It’s not Freeform, it’s a little less broken than that. Legacy uses all the same sets. We don’t need two vintage formats. Ban the power 9 and maybe cards that cost way too much money or warp the format too much but Ragavan? Why? Why is that still banned after the printing of bowmaster? W&6 kinda makes sense because a wasteland lock that leads to a w&6 unlimate is pretty demoralizing and only takes about 2 turns to set up (wasteland, crack turn 1, turn 2 land+petal+wrenn picking up wasteland). It’s something okay for vintage because of all the moxen and okay in modern because the wasteland knockoffs let the opponent search for another land and only in the case of bad deck building will they be modern legal strip mine or wasteland. You’re not “wasteland locking” your opponent in modern if they still have lands to play the game with. After legacy all of the other formats are already different. Vintage/legacy/commander use cards from every set except some of the joke set cards. Almost 30 years worth of cards. Modern is currently restricted to about 21 years worth of cards. Pioneer just 13 years worth of cards. Just that alone makes the formats different without having to make 4x treasure cruise something that sets pioneer apart from the other formats. And, of course, pauper. All the sets but only the commons. If they broke monastery swiftspear that bad in pauper but it’s not too broken for standard there’s a problem somewhere. Some of the bans with the digital formats are amusing too like historic banned lightning bolt of all cards. Seriously?

When I read "find specific spells to find their piece" I IMMEDIATELY thought of doomsday getting even more consistency.

WOTC is doing whack-a-mole with modern and the format is in a terrible state.
Ban doomsday I absolutely detest watching any match with it.
