I'm not a boater, too busy doing other things. One of my projects is building my own 600 sq ft cabin. I enjoy working with wood and with hand tools. I really enjoyed watching you build that boat That was incredible! Thank you for sharing!
Maybe not an experienced boatbuilder but a very accomplished wood worker. Odd design to my eye but very well put together with very nice materials. The electric outboard was a vey nice touch, and something of a surprise. My only comment would be that IMO there were way too many mechanical fastenings (screws) where such a well known and regarded epoxy was used in the main structure; like by a factor of at least 10. There were probably twice as many as would be used for a traditional build without glue! I suppose it means that the joints are indestructible, but unnecessarily so, IMO.
As befits a professional, the meticulously precise craftsmanship and attention to detail were of the highest order. It was a pleasure to see your boat come to life and she looks beautiful on the water and the trailer. I was very pleased to find your superb channel and to subscribe. Thank you for taking the care and the time to put together such a well made video, it was absolutely first rate.
I have found a silicon kitchen spatula is an excellent tool for glue ups being a versatile spreader and so easy to clean due to silicons resistance to adhesion.
I lived and worked in Dar on 1999 till 2004 and back on 2006. I loved Dar. People are so friendly, and the foods are really mouth watering. I was employed by Dar es Salaam Glass in Mikocheni My projects were the PPF Tower, PPF Parking Bldg, Holiday Inn, Aga Khan Hospital, Mafuta House, BOT Bldg, NSSF Mbeya, Bunge Bldg Dodoma and some CRDB building.
Very jealous, nice job, just wish I had a place to build one. You may think of putting a skeg on the bottom for more accurate tracking/steering. Great video too, no stupid music!
I've built a couple of boats and watched a bunch of boat building videos and yours is, by far, the best one I've seen. Well done not just on the boat but on the video quality and content as well.
I wonder, before you installed the bottom plywood, did you use a string line from the bow to the center of the stern? That would confirm the symmetry of the sides. My dad was a self employed boat builder back in the 50’s and early sixties. In the early days he would have loved to have had total boat epoxy for splicing the plywood sides. Later on I remember he was very pleased when a local plywood mill let him order plywood sheets up to 24 ft long. That is a very stout boat you built!
just a FYI I’m not busting on you because it works but if you want to invest in way better Countersinks Bits look into Fuller Sets they are fully adjustable easy to sharpen and they even have Carbide Tipped ones they have been the number One Choice for Wooden Boat Builders and Ship Builders for over 100 years I’m a retired Professional Woodworker and I actually have some in my Tool Boxesthat are 30 plus years old and I used them Daily to install Cabinetry. I’ve also Restored a couple of A tique Wooden Boats Iveused Fuller Products on
I think you need longer oars. Your hands should fall directly in front of you at the middle of the stroke. Do you have a cleat for your feet to push against? BTW, very nice job on the boat. I like the fact you can see the woodgrain through the fiberglass and I like the way she floats; it looks like a light boat.
Great build. I'm curious to know how much drag that transom has. It looks like it could've been tapered a bit, maybe 2 inches, but it's still a really cool boat.
Wonderful craftsmanship and quality material. I know next to nothing about boat building only that I once put together a model of a small sailboat used in the Dunkirk evacuations. It had from stem to stern a protruding keel that kept the boat going straight and not slip sideways. Not a centerboard but what looked like a keel. I did not see that feature on your boat. Why is that? Pardon my ignorance!
Great job, Captain Hess.! How does she handle on the water.? Steady, I guess. Was the hardwood Walnut? Lovely colour & density. Oh, and Bravo for your 'swarm' of clamps. You cannot have enough of the pesky blighters! 👍🌿🧜♂️
I am used to seeing a short keel or skage on a rowboat to help with steerage. I am reading that it's not necessary. Does your boat side slip when turning?
@@hesswoodwork I had a 1976 Welcraft 20' bck in 1997 & I named her (feel free to take the name) "NOBODY HOME" .. Looks like a beautiful lake boat. Nice job brother....
@@hesswoodwork You could call it the doghouse as for when you're in trouble with the wife you go to the doghouse and spend the day fishing. Did you know that fishing is the only time wasting thing most women don't complain about , where else can you sit around for 4-5 hours doing only as much as the effort you willing put outwith the wife bitching at you .
I'd never seen dovetailed panel scarfs. How do they compare to beveled joints? They certainly seem easier than trying to get a smooth edge bevel on thin panels.
Awesome job babe!! I can’t wait to take the boat out when the weather gets nice!
Thank you! Yes!
Only few minutes in and I love the use of wax paper. It is good as a protective layer when using epoxies that I’m surprised more people don’t use it.
Lovely project and lovely video. No distracting music. Extra points for that!
Thank you!
Amazing work. Throughly enjoyed the whole video. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you!
Seldom do I watch everything from the start to the end... now I couldn't waste one second of it. Thank you. 👍👍👍
Thank you so much for watching!
This is this the first time I've seen you're chanel. and very interesting. and all on your own brilliant job buddy. First class. I hope to see more.
You should be very proud, that is a very quality job for your very first boat build! You should be proud of yourself! 👍😊👍

Brings back childhood memories. That is a beautiful boat!!! Wish I could do it.

Thank you. It was my first boat, and I made up my own plans. I should have made a little different.
You can always add one when you haul out. But otherwise, excellent job.
That is insanely impressive
Thank you!

❤BEAUTIFUL BOAT❤
Thank you!
Nice
Thank you!
You done this before 😊 . Well done 👍
Thank you!
I saw a lot of construction ideas I like. Longer oars might help.
Yes, I realized that haha
O mais incrível é que com todo o maquinário que ele tem, faz tudo parecer fácil...
Awesome
Thank you!

Norm called.
He wants his biscuit thing back.

Thank you! I am not sure. This was my first time, and I made my own plans.
Love the video! Wish you could have explained what you where doing, I'm a novice just starting out in wood working.
Thank you! Sorry, I don't do many voice overs.
Fantastic.
Can you get any detail - plans, materials etc? 😊
Thank you! Sorry, I don't make plans.
Great job, Captain Hess.! How does she handle on the water.? Steady, I guess. Was the hardwood Walnut? Lovely colour & density. Oh, and Bravo for your 'swarm' of clamps. You cannot have enough of the pesky blighters! 👍🌿🧜♂️
Thank you! It does good on calm days, but windy days aren't the best.
Wow what an old school project. Great job! Ok… how long did it take? How much in materials? And how many screws???
I am used to seeing a short keel or skage on a rowboat to help with steerage. I am reading that it's not necessary. Does your boat side slip when turning?
Congratulations!
You must be proud 👏
So beautiful colour.
I have been waiting for the last step.
What are you going to name the boat?
Thank you! What should I name the boat?

use paint roller hven spreading epoxy on plywood,, mutch better, more even layer
Great job and love the video. Love to know what screws you used. Silicon bronze or stainless?
Outstanding work. If its not too cheeky, what was the cost of materials.
I'd never seen dovetailed panel scarfs. How do they compare to beveled joints? They certainly seem easier than trying to get a smooth edge bevel on thin panels.
I don't know. I was trying something new, and it worked good for me.
You made that look so easy. I will give it a go. It would be nice to see it with a 50hp motor on it. :)
It took me a week to build a similar boat, how long did you take?
Just wondering about the nails and screws. Do they have to be non ferrous?
Excellent work. It looks very nice. What material are the screws made of?
Stainless steel?
Thank you! They are exterior screws.
