Having the 1290r , i can confirm what he says. Actually, the 1290r is the first bike where i regularly tell myself : nobody actually needs this much power and agressivness 😂 But then i open the trottle again and forget what i just told myself.
it's not because the 1290 specs are too much for legal riding, that it shouldn't get more HP. I wouldn't mind as Smokey mentioned, to have an extra mounted f.e. a compressor on a SD, like Kawa does on the H2. After a couple of years on a 1290 SD SE, I would like KTM to bring us something more powerful. It would be nice to tame 4th and 5th gear power wheelies too. Current SD's stop doing power wheelies in 3rd. Do you need it, no. Do you want it ? I do :-)
Hi, really a cool bike and nice to ride. Myself I‘ve got a Duke 890 R for now 15 month and ~7tkm after a Duke 790 that I‘ve owned for 1,5 years. I really love it but I‘m also excited to maybe see something like a 890 SMT which would be the perfect crossover between a Duke & an Adventure. The 890 duke r gets brembo brakes and a bit more power. The 890 duke GP is a normal duke with different livery. The duke r is like 1300 euros more than the normal one. and the GP 300 euros.
R version gets adjustable suspension, steering stabilizer, 6 more HP, Brembo STYLEMA brakes, different bars, and Michelin power cup 2 tires.....well worth extra money imo

The main reason why new riders need to start on a lower CC bike is for COST of insurance and they need to get use to the weight.
Agree with you on insurance if you can't afford it my first bike was a triumph STRS cost £1200 for the year

790 is a better bang for buck. Cheaper because of the 890s, and everything comes stock with the 790 whereas u have to pay for in the 890.

@@Mancastle speed triple is nicer just the pegs are really high with low seat which make my legs cramped aswel. Mt is a pretty nice seating
