- In today's video i will be comparing the all new 2022 KTM 890 adventure R with the 2022 KTM 1290 Adventure R. Which one is the best on road and which is the best offroad? I will give you my honest opinion after riding both of these bikes.

I have an 890. After a few 6 hour highway rides, I want the 1290 and just deal with the weight for the offroad days.

Out the door with tax, license, and registration, my 2023 890 Adventure R was $20,000.00. Bought in the U.S., in So California. After the demo mode ended, I spent another $900.00 to have all the cool tech installed. I have over 1200 miles on my bike and love it. I added the factory heated grips and some other stuff.
Well Smokey, the 890R is about 16.500€ und the 1290R about 23.000€ in Austria as we are the kings of taxes, not too cheap i guess *sighs...
...and we don´t even get a toaster as an incentive!
This is the fault of the green hippies. F...ing nova (co2 tax). Thats why is it so expensive here in Austria

Great video, I chose the 2021 Ducati Multistrada V4S for my sport adventure tourer & the 2020 KTM ENDURO 690R for my dual sport motorcycle & are just amazing motorcycles, it was tough deciding between the 890 & 1290 so I picked the way I did & very happy with them, everyone ride safe
That's an epic combo to have!
Here in Singapore, the 890 Adventure R goes for SGD$34,900 whilst the 1290 Adventure R is SGD$47,500. But that doesn’t include the ~SGD$11,000 Certificate of Entitlement (COE) you have to purchase before riding it on the road. So technically, you would have to pay SGD$58,500 (~€40,000) for a 1290 SAR in Singapore. Love the vids Smokey!

The best part is this COE (paper of the bike) is only valid for 10 years. Then you can renew another 10 years 😭

Depending on your riding skills, both bikes in this video are designed for completely different riding terrain. I use my 2023 KTM 350 EXC-F for difficult and technical riding and my 2017 KTM 1090 R for fast pavement rides to less technical off-road trails. From my experience, having two bikes is a minimum to cover all the different styles of riding. Great video, thanks for sharing!
Agree , there is never a perfect bike to cover everything. Can't imagine getting stuck in deep mud with a 1290 and be happy with it haha.

Germany. Atm the 1290 R goes for 18500€ w/o packs. Bought my S yesterday for 19000€ fully specced.
You can adjust the windshield of the 890 by removing the screw on the shield and put it into the top position.
In Denmark 20.000€ will buy you an 1190 😵
Canada Pricing - 890 R - $15,899.00 & 1290 R - $21,499.00. I thought this would be higher then most countries because Canadian money is like Monopoly money, but really I think Canadians are getting a pretty good deal here.

Don't disrespect the 890's indicator lever - that was one of the deciding factors in my choice of this amazing machine over the competition! I like to know when I've indicated left, right, or whatever, as opposed to guessing and hoping for the best...
so the conclusion as always in 890 vs. 1290....buy both bikes. Got it!

I dunno, I rode an 1190, and bought an 890. The only thing I noticed about the 1190 is it was huge, heavy, long, tall, Wasnt stable at speed, 120 mph it was moving around and wobbling some. A 1290 might be better on road but otherwise, its awful big.
I have 9 older speeding tickets that sit under my helmet at home, I dont want 160 HP at all, not even a little on road or off.
A ticket for wheelies in the US? Is over 1300.00. For one wheelie. Keep it in mind, 2 points on record.

A month ago I bought a 390 Adv for about $10,000 from a dealership. I think it's better to visit Poland, buy a bike there, and then return VAT taxes or buy without them if this option is possible at a dealership.
Hello, have you encountered and engine vibrations? I had the 1090, 1290 both R and now the new 2022 1290 R, I have engine vibrations from 6000 rpm up… I have not seen any reviews where this has been noted? Would appreciate and info.

Could be yeah , but the reason I bought the KTM in the first place is to give me some engine vibrations. I think the v-twin is just a very vibrating engine overall :-)

for 890, it is much better wind flow, when you remove the winglets under the headlights. just try it 👍

Hey Smokey! The 890 windscreen is adjustable, but you have to remove that middle screw on the front to adjust.

The 1290 is a big heavy bike! And I think that’s the difference. Off road, 890 all day every day.

Depends on your riding skills I guess , smaller people can ride bigger bikes. But it's gonna be hard to pick it back up from the floor :-)

I moved away from Akrapovic nowadays. While I still use it for my RSV4, I will be going either Remus or Yoshimura on my 890 adv R. Far denser sound.

Made me laugh again…Dude I love ya! So funny my ….Norden 901 is heavy enough. Can’t imagine an average rider being able to handle 1290 weight wise on anything more than a flat fire trail. Yes I e dropped it ,had to drag it around and face up hill and ride it back out!

@@LifeofSmokey Na much less. More like 10%. But this 10% I often would like to be more narly than I am confident with the 1290. Drove a motocross track on a training day with it and it could do it but you always feel like to go crazy you need the 890R 😬
But the power of the beast and its third gear powerwheelies are just too addictive on the road. And despite the equal suspension and the flimsy indicator switch you can feel the extra money went in better equipment compared to the 790/890 (Better display, keyless, brembo brakes, wind shield, quality plastics etc).
