I'm fortunate enough to have owned both. I bought a 2021 890 R new, based on watching RUclips videos like this. Unfortunately, there were too many things I disliked - yes the handling and brakes were excellent but overall there was a distinct agricultural feel. The quickshifter was shocking and put me into some dangerous situations, the throttle was very snatchy at low speeds, the Ergos I found too upright and the overall fit and finish was poor. Then there's those looks...grated on me, so I sold it after 5000 kms. Now I own a 2023 street triple RS. This is the bike I should have bought...for me it's the complete package, the style, beautifully made, more sporty ergos, perfect quickshifter and sublime handling. I'm not a hooligan, but I like spirited rides in the twisties and the RS is fantastic. As for the suspension, I find it very misleading to review it when it hasn't been set up for the rider. Both my bikes were transformed once I had them professionally dialed in to my weight. Both triumph and ktm have superb suspension once set up. Street Triple RS wins this one hands down for me!
Exactly, leaving the Triumph on a road setting knowing that the suspension is more tuned on the KTM was a let down. However, the question should really be targeted at Triumph as to why they would set the RS to a road setting instead of sport? I'd understand the R but not the RS, as the RS should be expected to ride firmer.
I don’t own both, however I agree with your assessment. I own the 2024 (US) STR RS, and I find it difficult to believe that the KTM suspension is that much better than the RS’s, especially without both suspensions being properly setup.
@@reddpill I agree with what you are saying because there's literally 5 suspension settings. My Royal Enfield has 0 settings. If you don't dial in your bike to your weight, the type of roads you are going to be riding e.t.c, why are you even riding? I've spoken to mates who have top notch Ohlins and even semi active and when I ask them what their settings are they don't even know; they bought them to look blingy *facepalm*
At least the preload has to be set to near rider weight to get the bike to behave correctly. The 2023 890r is much improved over the 20 and 21. I’ve had triumphs and ktms, no doubt many aspects are more refined on the triumph. But that Ktm ready to race drive train is super fun and engaging even if you don’t like to ride like Judas Priest! Great work gents - without a doubt you two produce the best bike reviews on the internet, a couple of knowledgable blokes on bikes, no ego's at play just enthusiasm for this marvellous hobby of hours - top notch!! ...oh, and I'll have the Triumph in yellow please....
I've put about 4K miles on the 890 Duke R, and it has really spoiled me when I hop on other bikes. The power, torque, and braking are so instantaneous that other bikes feel 'delayed.' It is very secure and confidence inspiring. Two downsides: you can really feel how lightweight it is on the freeway (get blown around a bit), and it does encourage you to ride a like a hooligan.
I have an 2023 890 adventure R and its the exact same story... its a really bad influence XD. cant help but power wheelie and slide and bang through gears at any possible moment.
890R is hands down the best bike ive ever owned. Ive been riding 30 years and have owned alot of bikes. They are amazing. Owned a STR and MT09 ( still own it) and neither come close to the smile an 890R gives you. If you pottering around town then drop the throttle response and its as sublime as the STR. But then when needed its an absolute hooligan. The stuff you can get away with is unreal. Smoto mode , slide control on 2 , track throttle and no wheelie control is bonkers. Back it in without trying 20 ft into corners and wheelie out in 2nd on the throttle its hilarious..
Yellow RS for me, but I must say that I didn't expect 890 to be this versatile and smooth. Previous reviews I've watched is that it's bit too much fun oriented. Very insightful video, thanks, Chopsy!
I knew this shootout would be good. Both machines are incredible and just boils down to personal preference i think. That's my Sunday morning viewing sorted again Chops. Love these videos.....Great work Chops 😊👍
I tested both and also the MT-09SP before opting for the RS in cosmic yellow, I absolutely loved the 890R whilst riding it but couldn't stand the looks and poor finish after getting off, I realise looks are subjective but as an old git in my sixties the Triumph's refinement swung it for me.
@@morri03 I really liked the MT-09SP and it was probably comparable to the RS performance wise but the RS undoubtedly handled better and has a much more premium finish, I know looks are subjective but I love the look of both bikes.
@@yonniboy1 good to know, that makes sense. I am finding that I have to rule out so many models because I don’t like how they look unfortunately. I never like the old street triple but the new one is much improved look wise. Enjoy what seems a great bike.
@@morri03agreed looks and sound contribute heavily to my choice. I don't like twins so all ktm are out the window Aprila rs660. And so on. I do like triples and inline 4s Yamahas cp3 sounds great I prefer it to the triumph sound wise but mainly up top. I prefer triumphs low down whistle. Also I only like nakeds and I do like specs like brembo brakes braided lines ohlins suspension stuff like that. So with that in kind it leaves a few bikes Triumph 765rs,1050R,1200rs. Yamaha Mt09 sp (a am starting to enjoy the sound of yamahas cross plane (so maybe an mt10) but personally think it's a boat in size. Or BMW s1000r (gen 1 or 2) Mainly gen 2 for the additional blipper and up and down quick shifter, forged wheels, and updated ODB port. But if you don't care about a bit of weight and only having clutch less up shifts gen1 would be fine for you. Out of these based on price and looks and power I'm leaning towards the gen 2 s1k (also seat height of 815mm works for me.)
Another excellent vid & comparison. You'll have to start paying Greg soon lol as he brings a lot of knowledge, experience & entertainment value to the table. Just wanted to say your channel has come so far in terms of the quality, production & content. It deserves double the number of subscribers you have & is fast becoming one of my very favourite channels I can't do without! As for the bikes, both great, you don't need any more than what these offer & you can't go wrong with either. Personally I prefer the RS as an all round package as it seems more versatile & well rounded than the KTM, not to mention prettier. I'd also like to think with a bit of fettling you could improve the suspension feel on the RS too. Looking forward to the upcoming content as well!
For me, the KTM looks and sounds badass. The Triumph looks and sounds sexy. I can listen to the KTM for a month, but I can listen to the Triumph forever. I'd choose the Triumph purely for it's soundtrack and slightly softer and more liveable ride quality.
I have read on RS forums that the spring rate on the front forks is a bit light and needs a slightly bigger spring rate in it - up a .5 or 1. I found it a little that it dives on braking etc. I think if you tweaked the suspension on the Triumph it would make a big difference. When other channels rode them, they had them tweaked for the track and it made a big difference. The WP on the KTM is probably slightly higher quality on the front.
I’m 100kg, I’ve taken all the front preload off and most of the rear, its really harsh on shitty uk roads, so this has made a decent difference. Still handles well, brakes and turns throwing it into the canyons full on the brakes.
I'd be shocked if the Ohlins couldn't be set up to be as good or better than the WP. I'm sure Triumph have figure out with a softer factory setting they probably sell more bikes from test rides
Of all the videos of bikes, on all the channels on RUclips, this is the one I’ve been waiting for this year….thanks guys, this could determine were my money goes 👍🏻
did you guys try adding a bit of compression on fork and shock on the RS, with quite heavy dudes that like to twist the throttle a good bit the base setting might be a bit too soft..
Nice video, thanks! Obviously you´ve had great fund during this shootout. I tested both bikes, the KTM on track and public roads, the RS only public. My conclusion was a bit different from yours, please forgive this comment will become a little more lenthy because of that. Personally, I´d prefer the RS over the KTM. The Triumph I tried was from a dealer, already had some miles on it. Suspension was properly set up and overall it felt superior to the KTMs, which had the suspension already reworked from a specialist, the owner has the same weight as I, so no change in setup. The KTM rear suspension, I was really surprised, as you mentioned, didn´t squat? I also compared the bikes with my 2020 KTM Super Duke 1290 R, which I believe has the same WP suspension on the front, just with 48mm tubes. That felt the same as the 890 when I bought it. Kind a wooden, not very sensitive. I changed it to Andreani Cartridges, way better. The rear damper is also about to be reworked, with a different shim setup and and piston, because it does pump quiet a lot in corners if there are bumps, but that is probably only relevant on the track. Definitely I liked build quality and finish of the Triumph more. All the plastic and why can´t KTM just use better screws? All the KTMs I owned are like that, the screws start to corrode after a year already Agree on the torquiness of the KTM, the Triumph needs revs 🙂 A couple of months ago I bought a 2013 Daytona 675R, race setup, stock Öhlins Suspension, set up to my weight. The suspension is still ahead of the 1290, just tested both of them on track in Hungary. Love that thing, it´s like having the front axle in your hands. As a consequence I had to try the RS I agree on the front diving, I would probably use a little harder spring, will figure that out when it arrives. Ordered a yellow RS, unfortunately I have to wait, estimated delivery is October. Probably while I am in Grobnik/Croatia, squeezing out the Tona. Will keep the Super Duke though, the torque still get´s me every time, it has character. Keep up the good work, greetings from Germany
Been waiting on this one for a while, just what i was looking for on a Sunday morn, it is getting better and better, great channel and your bud has a good input also, thumbs up from me, waiting for the next one now
Had to laugh at 'Grown ups toy' as we are still kids at heart. I have all big boy toys, 1290 SDR, R1250R and a CRF300L. Never bored, never grew up! Great vid as ever.
My 890 Duke R is like having a cheat code . I did test ride the STR 765 and found the riding position not great cramped legs/hip and bad engine heat that no one mentions. I have done 3500 kms in 5 days on my 890 Duke R also better fuel economy than most bikes.
I wonder why there are those who say they don’t like parallel twin engines? They make such good engines in bikes, plenty of torque, lightweight, and also have a bit of a top end. The best examples are the 890, MT07 cp2 and now, a very good 755 in the Honda Hornet. They all have the 270 degree crank, I guess that helps. ❤
KTM has a 75 degree offset for the p-twin, that's why it sounds different compared to the CP2, CB750, Kawa 650 p-twin. Which all do have a 270 degree offset.
the ktm is a 285 degree crank..... obviously different to all the other parallel twins out there..... thats what gives it its unique take on a parallel twin..... really enjoyed the comparison 👍
Hi Chopsy, I have the 890 R and think it's ace alongside my 1290 GT. My brother is considering the triumph but think after your review we will both have an 890R. Nice vid pal
After seeing the difference felt by 44teeth when using triumphs track settings for suspension. I wonder if that would bring it closer to the ktm in the Twisties. Great video guys 👍👍
@@ThiefOfNavarre I think you're missing the point. Not talking about like for like comparison for which is better, just curious on the feel and the enjoyment level of the bike.

@@morganmartin9286 They said the KTM was better and only tried one of the 5 available levels of suspension. Both great bikes I'm sure but the suspension feel is surely down to whether it's dialed in for your weight and stature
Another great video lads. I'd take the triumph all day though. Can't get away with the looks of the ktm. Subjective I know but that street is beautiful
When deciding for me; it came down to the Street Triple RS, KTM 890 Duke R, Aprilia Tuono 660, and Yamaha MT-09 SP. It was agonizing! I ended up with the KTM 890 Duke R. The biggest thing...I found a good dealio. But...I already have a KTM 1190 Adventure R (I also have a Triumph Bonnevillie Speedmaster)...I like and familiar with parallel twins. I've never had a triple. It was difficult and I still wonder, "what if..." No matter the choice, I'd still be left with that question. I forgot another thing that attracted me is the turn radius of the KTM. Having ridden my 890 Duke R quite a bit...I will say it makes me look like a much better rider than what I probably am!
I tested the 890 Duke for 24 hours. Very uncomfortable bike. After just 30 minutes had a numb bum. Very good bike around the twisties, but on motorways gave me a really sore neck due to no wind protection. I declined to buy and bought the Triumph - a much better bike overall. Love my triumph.
Did you have an problem with the tank design? I test rode it and there is a design line in the tank that sticks out a little and it always pressed against my thigh.
Good one chops. Havent ridden the ktm. But new owner of moto2 limited edition triple. And having ridden the RS, the moto2 suspension is another level with the ohlin forks.incredible handling and the clip ons give it that aggressive sport feel.
you know, the KTM could beat the triumph in every test, from the track to the street, and id still choose the triumph on character alone. but that's just me
Brilliant stuff. You guys are really good together...One little comment. The ktm 890 is not a 270 crank, its a 285 degree crank. A 270 mimics a 90 degree V-twin, like a Ducati and others (actually the firing order is 270/450 degrees) Ktms V-twins are 75 degrees, so to mimic that in a parallel twin it will have a firing order of 285/435 degrees. But thanks for the quality content. Love this channel.
I own a street triple RS, and one of the things i love about it is the straight cut gear whine from the balance shaft. I can hear it in the background of most of the street triple clips, like a little baby supercharger
Those british number plates wow , no wonder the front wheel lifts its like a parachute hanging off the back . Like others have said i’d go for triumph for looks , finish and comfort , it seems when hammering it the ktm wins but if u spend all your time doing that u wont be riding anything very quickly . Great back to back comparison thanks fellas
Great vid guys, keep up the great work. I just bought the 890 duke r. I love it. As for tail tidy's I'd definitely recommend MNNTHBX 3D printed tail tidy comes with rizoma corsa indicators removing the need for a bulky stop tail lamp.
Double trouble, I had a great time watching this comparison shoot out . Both of these bikes have the fun factor built in , and great to see them ridden like it. For me the KTM gets it . Sure not the prettiest machine but the performance and feel are worth a lot more to me. Great video chaps , now go and enjoy a cool down Shandy too !.
Great review! I´ve never been a huge fan of the looks when it comes to Triumph but this new design do look good. I own a 22 890 Duke r with the full akra system and its seriously the most fun bike i ever owned. Wouldn´t swap it for any other naked. Some of the previous bikes have been s1000r, MT10SP and the last one was a 17 tuono factory. ”downgrading” to the 890 has made it so much more fun to to ride in the twisties and for me personally its the most comfy naked of the ones that íve owned.
Hi Chopsy I was so eager to watch this video ! Let's be honest hearing your different comments when you both were riding the 890 R, the Duke is a better bike overall. You stated it yourself better handling, better suspensions, engine more fun and grunty, sharpest brakes ... Indeed the Triumph is classier, certainly more beautiful but aesthetics are not the only thing to take into account. The KTM looks cheaper but is not that ugly!! Moreover when you're riding it the fun and joy it gives completely rule out its specific style. I'd add that the Duke 890 R is now 3 years old and a new Duke 990 is about to come in 2024. I let you imagine where the Triumph will stand ;-)
One mistake I noted though. You say that it's not possible to separate traction control and wheelie control. On the Triumph that's true, on the KTM however this is definitely possible in track mode (optional)
You guys keep complaining about the Triumphs suspension, but if you have not adjusted the suspension for your weight and riding style you shouldn’t really complain.
I traded in my 2018 ST RS for a 2020 ST RS. But that unreadable tach was driving me nuts! Passed on the 2023 since they did not redesign the tach, and got myself a 2023 S1000XR!
Well that was fun. The Triumph’s look will sway me that way. KTM could be a fun one to customize though as I wouldn’t be too concerned about ruining the stock look
Another excellent video. I traded in my 2016 street triple for the 890r. I find the seat hard after a while apart from that very happy with it. Lowered the gearing 1 tooth on the front to make the most of bottom end.
Wonder if the tyres made the major handling difference? I did have to laugh when ye both said middleweight is all you need while Chops has a H2 and Greg has a GSXR 😂 no replacement for displacement
I’d get the Triumph even though I do love the bikes KTM builds and they feel more at home with their seating position. The Triumph I’d have to get risers because the bars are too low for me. I’ve gotten way too use to the more relaxed feeling of my gen 3 MT-09. The Triumph is just so beautiful to look at and I love my in-line 3’s. Also it has the option of cruise control.
Why does the MCN bike review for the Superduke GT talk about “being able to stomach a KTM”? I know nothing but do KTMs have a rep for….what….unreliability?
The RS looks gorgeous ❤. Though I understand that the Duke has been better dynamically, I’d still get the Triumph :). They’re anyway way above my skill level 😂.
Coming off of an LC8 1290 KTM, I'd take the Triumph for reliability, full stop. Great fun when they're running properly, but absolute garbage when they're not (which is frequent).
@@rdavidsen7344 The (R) 2023 model was in my budget as a new bike and at the end of the day after 30 years of a bike it is more than enough for me, I don’t need a bike for track days just for weekend blasts in the summer months:)
@@arfb8 Got it! Correct choice, given your needs. I had to make a similar decision and went with the 2024 R (for some reason it's a '24 in the U.S.). I previously, for two years, had the '21 RS. It's early miles so I need more saddle time on it. Mostly I miss the upgraded levers and master cylinders which are on the RS version... and, importantly, the better brake feel you get with the RS. @@rdavidsen7344 I’ve done about 1200 miles now but as far as advice…you probably no more than me about these bikes, your right about the levers, I will be getting the short levers from Triumph at some point, the braking power for me I find good just want a bit more adjustability, I did order my bike with bar end mirrors, belly pan, engine protectors, tank protector. Along with the short levers hope to get rear seat cowl and rear foot pegs delete & finally exhaust when warranty runs out. Keep in touch if possible I’d like to know how you get on with yours etc
@@arfb8 Thanks for sharing more details about your ST-R. My bike is in stock form, at this point in time. I went with the White colorway. Once I have more time on it, I'll consider accessories. Loved this comparison ride-out. Both great bikes. That KTM is certainly some piece of kit and if I was 30 years younger, I'd have that in my garage in a heartbeat. Regrettably, I'm no longer that 30-something rider, so the Triumph would be the one for me and I'd be more than happy with that, without feeling that I'd short-changed myself.
I know this is many months on, but was the suspension (Front and Rear) pre-checked and set accordingly, and not assumed to be correct from factory/dealer?
As a 60 year old geezer who has ridden about everything, I bought a 890R a month ago and all I can say WOW this is the bike I have been looking 40 years for ,the thing is a giant slyer, chop put the 890 in street mode and it’s not choppy
Just been away for 9 days riding in the Picos mountains with 4 street triple RS. My 21 plate and friends 23 new model were the fast ones out of the 4. Just comparing a few things side by side, new bike has a cheapo anodised aluminium clutch span adjuster, like it’s off a crappy Suzuki, mine has a lovely steel adjuster, olive green coated. The new bike plastic tank cover doesn’t seem as premium as the steel tank on mine, the rad cowl covers are ugly on the new. Tank range differences don’t affect anything in a group.
KTM looks to be the better more focused machine but both are outstanding bikes. TBH I'd still take the triumph for peace of mind vs potential KTM reliability woes which can be a bit hit or miss... well, if I didn't have a 23 MT09 SP which is also a great bike in my slightly biased opinion 😅 Triumph vs the MT09 SP? Would love to see your comparison of these two... please do it! It would be one of your most viewed videos..❤
The RS is the quicker of the 2 for sure but there is no taking away from the fun of the MT09. If I was buying new I'd go with the RS, if I was thinking of moving to the RS from the MT09 not so much. The RS definitely has a nicer layout and better components but the the mt09 is a solid bike with big smile factor and is very reliable.
MT09 SP is more much fun oriented than the 890 R. The front on the MT09 has too low wheight and therefore handling suffers. On the 890 R you got a nice handling, even considering it is fun oriented. The Triumph just combines a reliable, effective machine, but it's not fun oriented. So it all depends on what you're looking for.
I checked the suspension settings on my new RS and it was actually set firmer than road settings. So either the dealer had been fiddling or it wasn't set up correctly at the factory. I've now set it up on the comfort settings, only been out once since and it makes a big difference on the road. I'm going to test it more and if necessary adjust more back towards road settings.
I would always check the settings when buying even a new bike.....cant even count how many new bikes were not set to standard spec off showroom floor......my 890 R wasn't correct either so first to check when purchasing is check the settings Chopsie a big Lad, he would most definetly need a min of springs on almost any bike....
Very good comparison video both superb middleweight nakeds. Enough power and speed for road use. Both could be fun on a track day in the middle group avoiding Panegale V4s and R1Ms. I was the owner of a Yamaha TRX850 in 1996 a parallel twin with just 80 bhp. Seem to remember this was the first parallel twin with a 270 degree crank in the market. Main reason for buying as it completely changed the sound close to a v twin and nice power delivery.
Great comparison & informative, prefer the Triumph 😎 - very professional production, the 'next up' at the end shows real initiative. Very excited to see more
RS every day, but I own one lol. KTM great bike, but, switchgear etc (build quality) is not up to scratch, and it's more expensive by a long way if you buy tech pack.
Great Sunday morning entertainment. Personally having had 4 street triples I’m a Triumph fan boy and would get the R version next time but the KTM does seem to pip it in this comparison. Not sure about dealer coverage and long term reliability of the Duke though. Good work both 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

@@rdavidsen7344 hi. @@leewatkeys9065 Thanks, Lee. I went with the 2024 R over the RS. For some reason the bikes are '24s in the U.S. I previously had the '21 RS, which I traded in on a Zero (for a different experience). I'll need to adjust the suspension once the bike is broken in and past its first service. These bikes are so much fun, just sad that they require to go twice the speed limits to be really enjoyed. Had a Speed and Street triple, and there wasn't a ride I wasn't risking losing my license. Now with an MT-01 and a DR650, my license is "less" at risk.
The ktm dash does change a bit when cycling through the modes. And I don't get the comment on the traction and wheelie control being coupled at the ktm. You put it in track mode, disable anti-wheelie, put TC on lower settings en your average joe can pop some decent wheelies?
Fun comparison. I was all set to get the KTM earlier this year based on such reviews... until I went to the showrooms. Looks like something you'd find in ToysRUs
how about a race in whichever gear is best for each bike instead of handicapping one of their attributes? a rider is going to put their bike into the gear that best suits the bike and what he or she is wanting to do irl

"A bit too much fun" 😂
I'd take the Street Triple for its proven durability, build quality and looks.
They’re not durable my engine blew up
You must be a comedian, right?
For the looks..😂🤣😂🤣
Unfortunately not like that anymore - my dad owns one. Fucking hates how the bike was delivered to him 😂
Build quality with its plastic tank 😂
I knew this shootout would be good. Both machines are incredible and just boils down to personal preference i think.
That's my Sunday morning viewing sorted again Chops.
Love these videos.....Great work Chops 😊👍
I tested both and also the MT-09SP before opting for the RS in cosmic yellow, I absolutely loved the 890R whilst riding it but couldn't stand the looks and poor finish after getting off, I realise looks are subjective but as an old git in my sixties the Triumph's refinement swung it for me.
How was the mt09sp compared to the triumph?
@@morri03 I really liked the MT-09SP and it was probably comparable to the RS performance wise but the RS undoubtedly handled better and has a much more premium finish, I know looks are subjective but I love the look of both bikes.
what did you think of the mt09 vs the 890 and the street? in case i will go this route (middle weight naked) i am looking into the above 3 as well.
I don't like twins so all ktm are out the window
Aprila rs660. And so on.
I do like triples and inline 4s
Yamahas cp3 sounds great I prefer it to the triumph sound wise but mainly up top. I prefer triumphs low down whistle.
Also I only like nakeds and I do like specs like brembo brakes braided lines ohlins suspension stuff like that.
So with that in kind it leaves a few bikes
Triumph 765rs,1050R,1200rs.
Yamaha Mt09 sp (a am starting to enjoy the sound of yamahas cross plane (so maybe an mt10) but personally think it's a boat in size.
Or
BMW s1000r (gen 1 or 2)
Mainly gen 2 for the additional blipper and up and down quick shifter, forged wheels, and updated ODB port.
Thanks buddy much appreciated 👍 🙏
The street triple is sprung for a child
I’m 100kg, I’ve taken all the front preload off and most of the rear, its really harsh on shitty uk roads, so this has made a decent difference. Still handles well, brakes and turns throwing it into the canyons full on the brakes.
@@stephenmcqueen4029 you need stiffer springs front and back - they are for some around 75kgs.
I'd be shocked if the Ohlins couldn't be set up to be as good or better than the WP. I'm sure Triumph have figure out with a softer factory setting they probably sell more bikes from test rides
The ohlins is a bit softer though (even in the sport setting) and the Showa's have the same "issue"
Dude WP is phenomenal you got to try it
Of all the videos of bikes, on all the channels on RUclips, this is the one I’ve been waiting for this year….thanks guys, this could determine were my money goes 👍🏻
Glad you like them! 😁👍
Great video, great bikes. It’s definitely the Street Triple for me 😍
Really enjoying these side by side comparisons Chopsy and Greg. Now one of my first go to bike channels. Thanks.
Appreciated thanks 👍
did you guys try adding a bit of compression on fork and shock on the RS, with quite heavy dudes that like to twist the throttle a good bit the base setting might be a bit too soft..
All the KTMs I owned are like that, the screws start to corrode after a year already
Agree on the torquiness of the KTM, the Triumph needs revs 🙂
A couple of months ago I bought a 2013 Daytona 675R, race setup, stock Öhlins Suspension, set up to my weight. The suspension is still ahead of the 1290, just tested both of them on track in Hungary. Love that thing, it´s like having the front axle in your hands. As a consequence I had to try the RS
I agree on the front diving, I would probably use a little harder spring, will figure that out when it arrives.
Rs wins on looks by a long shot, not a fan of the day-glo orange wheels and general track suit aesthetic of the KTM.
Triumph are not listening when it comes to that dash. People have been banging on about it for years.
No doubt...just don't understand why Triumph can't offer some type of software upgrade to change the options for the dash layout
You guys do an amazing job of comparing bikes and the reviews are super entertaining. Definitely the best motorcycle channel on RUclips.
Thank you for this, so nice of you to write this 👍👌👏
Much appreciated! 👍🙏
Great timing to upload this. Cheers fellas 👍🏻
No problem 👍
the ktm is a 285 degree crank..... obviously different to all the other parallel twins out there..... thats what gives it its unique take on a parallel twin..... really enjoyed the comparison 👍

Hi Chopsy, I have the 890 R and think it's ace alongside my 1290 GT. My brother is considering the triumph but think after your review we will both have an 890R. Nice vid pal
Great to watch , and interesting comparisons , Triumph all day long , the overall look and finish is miles in front ,
After seeing the difference felt by 44teeth when using triumphs track settings for suspension. I wonder if that would bring it closer to the ktm in the Twisties. Great video guys 👍👍
Absolutely. Why use stock suspension figures when both bikes have fully adjustable suspension 🤦🤦
@@ThiefOfNavarre I think you're missing the point. Not talking about like for like comparison for which is better, just curious on the feel and the enjoyment level of the bike.
@@morganmartin9286 Of which the suspension is an integral part. You are seriously having this argument when both bikes have fully adjustable suspension?
@@ThiefOfNavarre what argument ?
@@morganmartin9286 They said the KTM was better and only tried one of the 5 available levels of suspension. Both great bikes I'm sure but the suspension feel is surely down to whether it's dialed in for your weight and stature
Would love to see how the Ducati Monster SP and MT-09 SP stack up.
Another great video lads. I'd take the triumph all day though. Can't get away with the looks of the ktm. Subjective I know but that street is beautiful
You put us in a bind with these two flawless machines. Can't choose. Now my weekend's messed up. Thanks Chopsie!!
Great comparison. I wonder if changing the suspension from Road (factory setting) to Sport would've helped the RS?
Would’ve just made it even more crashy. It would’ve handled better sure, but it wouldn’t have the same poise.
It’s spring for a 130 lb rider from the factory
@@rudolphcarr Really? That's ridiculous if true, what percentage of people purchasing this bike are 59kgs, like 5%? They should be rated to 75kgs~

Great vid guys. What a difficult choice, I think the build of the triumph would edge it for me.
Same here, dynamically it's so close, but the build quality and styling are way better on the street triple
Me too 👍
you know, the KTM could beat the triumph in every test, from the track to the street, and id still choose the triumph on character alone. but that's just me

Totally agree......Chopsie is my go to channel for anything bike related. 👍
Bloody awesome comparison 👏, for me its the rs. Just a more complete package with a abit of a suspension fettle.
Great video! Both bikes look lovely but I prefer that triple sound over the ktm 🤙
I own a street triple RS, and one of the things i love about it is the straight cut gear whine from the balance shaft. I can hear it in the background of most of the street triple clips, like a little baby supercharger
Ahaaa, Yesterday I asked Chriss Northover to do the same...But you delivered... thanks mate..🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳

Great watch as normal. Keep up the good work gents 👏🏼👍🏾
Duke 890 R have more 20% of torque vs 765 RS and 2000 rpm lower ... top naked, top specs, but I'm afraid Ktm ...
Triumph looks better but having rode both the KTM was more fun to ride so that takes priority and would be the one I'd get!
If you get any R model KTM I promise you won’t be disappointed. KTM is serious about performance
Can’t go wrong with either! Great video!
Great comparison Chopsy shame the camera broke when the wheelie action started! 🤣🤣

I love my 890r. I will saw that build quality could be better for the price you’re paying BUT, when I ride other bikes, I love my 890r even more.
Thank you guys so much! I needed that comparison you don’t know how much!!!❤❤
Welcome 👍 😁
Great video guys
You guys keep complaining about the Triumphs suspension, but if you have not adjusted the suspension for your weight and riding style you shouldn’t really complain.
Agreed, however I think both bikes had stock suspension settings.
Very detailed review. You guys were really thorough on your points. Congrats.
Another great vid.., loving the comparisons with Greg good stuff👍
Glad you enjoyed it 😁👍
I’d get the Triumph even though I do love the bikes KTM builds and they feel more at home with their seating position.
Yeah it's a lovely bit of kit 👍
They both have adjustable suspension and brakes. I'd imagine you can make them both as dynamic or soft as you would like.
Coming off of an LC8 1290 KTM, I'd take the Triumph for reliability, full stop. Great fun when they're running properly, but absolute garbage when they're not (which is frequent).
Try a Duke 390 then. Skill level is much less but still awesome fun👍
I was looking at both these, but I went with the Triumph (R) version based on overall cost, looks & sound. Great video as always chaps :)
Can you share your reasons for choosing the R version? Thank you.
@@rdavidsen7344 The (R) 2023 model was in my budget as a new bike and at the end of the day after 30 years of a bike it is more than enough for me, I don’t need a bike for track days just for weekend blasts in the summer months:)

It's early miles so I need more saddle time on it. Mostly I miss the upgraded levers and master cylinders which are on the RS version... and, importantly, the better brake feel you get with the RS.
Any advice regarding the 'R' since you've presumably had it for longer than I have? Thanks.
Yeah, lets stay in touch. Do reach out. I'll do so as well.

Glad you like them! Great arnt they
I know this is many months on, but was the suspension (Front and Rear) pre-checked and set accordingly, and not assumed to be correct from factory/dealer?
had a '22 Triumph 765RS, I hated the rev counter too!
Thanks for all the great vids Chops. Have a disgusting milky tea on me 😂
Appreciated thanks MrBiggles! :-)
KTM looks to be the better more focused machine but both are outstanding bikes.
TBH I'd still take the triumph for peace of mind vs potential KTM reliability woes which can be a bit hit or miss... well, if I didn't have a 23 MT09 SP which is also a great bike in my slightly biased opinion 😅
Triumph vs the MT09 SP?
@@danixscduke 890 more fun😜
Great comparison. I prefer the STR RS, despite your criticism of the suspension. The RS suspension is fully adjustable.
I would always check the settings when buying even a new bike.....cant even count how many new bikes were not set to standard spec off showroom floor......my 890 R wasn't correct either so first to check when purchasing is check the settings
Chopsie a big Lad, he would most definetly need a min of springs on almost any bike....
I just bought the 2024 765 RS. It’s fun. I was going to get the Speed Triple 1200 RS but I have no use of going over 125mph/200kmh.

My previous str was a 2019 rs 765 and was a little too hard for my riding even with multiple suspension adjustments of which there are many and I found for my old bones (61) the ride was too unforgiving on our crap roads in the uk. I’m riding a 2018 BMW f800r sport now and it was electronic rear adjustment comfort normal and sport and I find it much more compliant. I’ve read that the new 765R is more suited to the road whereas the RS is more track focussed. My previous STR were a normal 675 and two 675 R’s (which I regret selling). Hope this helps
@@leewatkeys9065 Thanks, Lee. I went with the 2024 R over the RS. For some reason the bikes are '24s in the U.S. I previously had the '21 RS, which I traded in on a Zero (for a different experience). I agree with Chopsy and Greg that the suspension is "crashy" ...even on the R, especially on road joints, etc.. I'll need to adjust the suspension once the bike is broken in and past its first service.
Like you, I chose a BMW (the F 750 GS), for the softer and adjustable rear suspension... for city duty and mellower rides. Our roads where I live are pretty crap also. On smooth pavement both the '21 RS and now the '24 R are sublime.
such lovly bikes but am glad you said MT09sp is in the mix of the top nakeds as i have one and love it
Maybe set the Street's suspension to sport and adjust the brake master cylinder for more bite next time.
These bikes are so much fun, just sad that they require to go twice the speed limits to be really enjoyed. Had a Speed and Street triple, and there wasn't a ride I wasn't risking losing my license. Now with an MT-01 and a DR650, my license is "less" at risk.
Right on, chopsy, Give us an analogue looking rev counter on the Street Triple.. Coulden't agree more.
Nice work again boy's, Both great bikes, Bùt the KTM is too small, looks like a a 390 or even a 125 with chops on it.😂
