- Four Amrep HX450 front-load garbage trucks collecting trash and recyclables from the 3rd Street Promenade in Santa Monica, California. The volume of waste is extremely heavy here, and the city's Resource Recovery and Recycling Division makes their rounds every morning, 7 days per week.

Anyone else get an embarrassing rush of satisfaction from all this? (I love anything that is to do with trash collection and disposal, especially if handled by robots.) This is still really cool. Never thought watching amazon boxes get crushed would be so nice. Thanks for getting the compactor in the shot! That was cool.

Oh this is fantastic! Great job putting all this together. I will admit that driver on the organics route was killing me on how messy and sloppy he was. It's always fun to watch a front loader, or heck any truck from the top down in action. Too bad you didn't get more. I could have watched this for another 17 min. ;-)

He should have packed the load more and had more room when he dumped the cans…and dumped the cans a lil faster so trash doesn’t go. Everywhere

This action was pretty sweet to watch, a video dedicated to overhead FL view, there's not enough of it! Awesome seeing the garbage at every stage, going up in the bin, getting tipped in the hopper and then pushed into the body... all the stuff you can't see from ground level. I must say the operating in the 1st and 2nd clip was kind of ordinary, lots of stuff got spilt, doesn't look like he went to much effort getting the bin above the hopper before rubbish could fall out everywhere, even didn't seem to tip the forks enough to allow a proper discharge - the guy driving in I think the third clip was much better! Pack cycle on the cardboard Amrep was pretty slow compared to the other trucks - first truck's pack blade bounced back almost like spring action! Also enjoy seeing the garbage built up inside the body, especially when it's packed tight, noticed one of the trucks was virtually empty on arrival too... cool in another way :D Well done on the video, very much enjoyed!

By far one of my most favorite videos!! What a mess he was making though, it seems like he was tipping the dumpster too soon. Looks like a lot of the stuff could be recycled or composted that was in the trash. So is the Promenade like a shopping mall? Once again, great job and for sure I'm watching this again!

I really hate it when people put recycle material in with the regular trash !!!
Believe it or not but not every place has a recycling program to where a recycling truck picks up recyclables.

@@josephbennett3482 here in europe all residents have their own recycle bins to seperate the waste so they encourage recycling instead of throwing away not every country in europe tho the very organised ones and in my the don't which is not organised

That sure was fun to watch haha terrific angle to choose and it sure made packing shots way more entertaining. Those huge packing cylinders are always so much fun to watch when they're extended all the way. All those green boxes in the hopper at 8:49 was pretty cool to see too. You've got me thinking of doing this myself, maybe I'll try it within the next couple weeks and see how it goes. You've really got the perfect structure to get this shot. Awesome job!

I've had to replace those hydraulic cylinders on stuffers... one of the nastiest jobs I've done. Not only are you walking around in trash and juices, but its slippery as hell from the hydraulic fluid.

Just so you know, most of those juices are from baby diapers and dog poo and kitty litter. Better to just call it juice.

Alot of expert in here I see. The first truck was doing garbage while the second truck was doing recycling. It's easier to do recycling than garbage.

dude you have made my favorite front loader video on all of YT right here. 11/10 superb job. It kind of bugs me how messy the whole operation is and how much cleaner it could be if people just put their trash in bags but aside from that this is simply the best angle IMO

As a former front load driver. I hate cardboard route. Spend half your time packing. WM does single stream so you get some glass for weight but doesn’t help much

Interesting view ive always wanted to see how it looks while compacting and how the load falls back when taking back the blade, you wouldnt get a view like this with our frontloads cuz we have the top door 😭

He’s not packing the load enough…noticed the trash that spilled over in front of the blade. Once he gets tired of climbing in the body and cleaning up he will realize..take it from a seasoned 20 year plus driver 🤪
Alot of people complaining in the comments that dude in the first truck he was dumping to fast he should of slammed it down few times before dumping then lowering. He needs to get trained again in the yeard.

Very nice video Tony! You got some great shots in this video! I loved seeing the packing cylinders the most. It was funny how most trash was falling out. It was nice seeing the new Autocar in action, the packer is kind of slow tbh, the CCC's are way faster.

All the garbage that falls out before over the hopper bothers me. Is it a design thing or is the operator not raising the arm quickly enough?

very nice, particularly enjoyed those hard packs of cardboard beginning at 9:51 and the last clip most of all. thanks for filming this and for identifying which trucks were which in the description, I started wondering if I was seeing the same ones twice but cool how they were all actually different. I'm guessing somebody might've asked this already but at any point did any driver or swamper notice you guys were above them filming?
Trashman242 haha it's funny you say that. I believe the recycling crew might've noticed me, but other than that I don't think anyone else did. However one of the guys that does trash here on weekdays saw the video and was joking around with me "I always look up now to make sure no one is spying on me!" Thanks Scott.

All the trash on the side of our roadways weren’t thrown from windows of moving cars. Notice all the trash left behind on the ground and on top the truck.
This was great! I've never seen that angle before. I didn't know what the top of those trucks looked like. Interesting the problem he was having packing those cardboard boxes. They wanted to push up and spill over the packer. He was skilled in keeping that from happening. Does he have a camera up there? How did he know?
these front loaders don't have cameras. It just takes a little experience to know how exactly far you can run the packer after dumping a container that's a certain amount full, but depending on where the operator is you can sometimes get a glimpse of the material starting to come pop up over the blade, whether you're outside of the truck or inside the cab looking backwards. Thanks!

The driver has a good view of the top of the packer blade as it's going back in his "tipping mirror" which is the convex mirror above the regular side view mirror. For a better view he only needs to look out the rear window. Constructively he needs to use more rpm as he is bringing the bin up over the roof to prevent having so much fall on the roof rather than in the hole where it belongs.
Tipping camera's are also quite common now, as most of the newer trucks have more junk blocking the view out the rear window (Regen units mostly) A lot of our newest trucks have 2-4 camera's in various locations. Definitely a lot going on at all times!
