It isn’t just a backup alarm, once the rear opens on a residentail truck or the rolloff box is raised in the air, the real loud beeping starts…. All for “safety” of course.
@@GarbageGus I once visited a transfer station in London where the waste was packed into containers for transport by rail to a landfill site at aformer brickworks site about 65 km to the north. They had very powerful dust extraction and collection equipment in the tipping hall. This was about 25 years ago.
only 10% or less of plastics that are sent for recycling actually get recycled. its a scam. they take your money to recycle plastics then they send the plastic to 3rd world countries to be put in landfills. single use plastic containers should be banned.
No separation of waste by householders then! Mandatory in U.K., it’s simple, paper and cardboard in one bin, plastics in smother, glass and metal in another then no retrievable waste in another, we even have bins for food waste!
The moment every person separate at home is the possibillity to keep garbagecost lower per house. Simply because the waste removal services can make some money when everything is separate. At least thats what we are trying in the netherland, is it perfect? No but lets all keep trying.
I'm from US and I just have to say you'd have a better chance of having a bird pick up a piece of trash than the people over here separating their trash. These people SHOUT for environment health but will LITERALLY due everything NOT to make the environment better when they're to lazy to throw their trash away properly. Beaches, Oceans, Lakes, Rivers, Ponds, etc. are all examples of people not caring about the environment/ecosystem that they will say "Fossil Fuels is what's destroying the environment" people are just plain lazy and stupid and will follow all these celebrities and politicians like sheep.
Where I live we have a population of 23,000 people. I work on the weighbridge at a landfill/recycle centre and everything is sorted. Construction waste(bricks, plasterboard, old windows etc) does go to landfill but all the other general waste/wood/grass is processed and made ready for burning(we have waste to energy plant that supplies hot water & heating for our main town). And we recycle household glass, paper, plastic. I can't believe all that garbage just goes to landfill.
The goal isn’t to pack it at compactor levels, the dozers just knock it down so it doesn’t back up to the height of the trucks. The material is constantly loaded into semi trailers and you’ll see actual 936 compactors at the landfill where airspace is $$$
It happens, not too long someone confessed to dumping a body in a trash bin. Police searched the transfer station and found nothing. The search was moved to the landfill where they found the body.
@GarbageGus A homeless guy who crawled into cardboard recycling bin behind a video store. Those bins were relatively clean. The truck pulled up in the early AM, noticed a shopping cart with personal effects sitting beside, so the driver (claims) he got out and shook or tapped on the bin. Hearing nothing, he dumped the bin into the truck and the guy was compacted. The truck got back to the station, dumped the load and out he came, lifeless but intact and eerily upright. The family sued BFI.
@@GarbageGus 😂😂😂🤣 the pins! Gotta check those pins. Hey I almost took the tandems off a 53 ft trailer one time. Drop and hook my ass, lucky it was not loaded.
@GarbageGus I drive Roll-off... how do they loose the box off the truck? The mess that falls out when you open the gate and then need to back over that, could be a problem
It's too hard to control. You have people to wash, sort recycle properly then there's those who just toss everything in the trash. Then there is the group who doesnt know and orders a dumpster and tosses everything away thinking it will get sorted.
Trash to energy plasma arc incinerators help with cheap power and a very small amount of inert ash produced. Japan has used them , NY has one and others operate in Florida.

They start the compacting process. Once it reaches the landfill they compact over and over to get as much air out. The do it for extra space and control the methane I was told.

Two things if working in that dozer all day. The smell and breathing in goodness knows what into your lungs. In the UK, it pays very well driving them but in there, no thanks.
I promise you, after about 1 month….you don’t smell it anymore, unless it’s a nasty wet load after a heavy rain which only causes the stink level to raise by 100%
If you remove all the government subsidies & controls; the only material left worth recycling are the metals: aluminum, steel/iron, and copper. Paper, glass, and plastic are a loss.
My city tried a big recycling program for a couple years and stopped because it was costing a lot of money and they were only able to salvage like 10% of what was brought on each truck.
Mad respect to the mechanics that have to work on those dozers
Makes you wonder whether diaper lube beats grease, nasty just aint enough.
You have no clue what you are talking about so shut it
I was just watching this thinking the same thing.
If it’s not an emergency repair…. They’re cleaned first
Maggots in the belly pan.
I feel sorry for the mechanic that has to work on those caterpillars
I think the same they get cleaned out daily. So much gets caught in their tracks
usually they send them to the dealer that they bought them from, we used to have to regularly wash compactors at ours and it was a nasty job
That beeping would drive me insane after 10 mins lol.
You get used to it I block it out. Its annoying at first makes your head hurt
The best part of this video is that you answer questions,I find this stuff interesting.
Thank you so much for watching and leaving a comment. I try my best to explain for those who might not know or are curious how it works.
Gus, thanks for the tipping station video. Busy place it seems with both household and demo waste.
Does this station ever Get Down to the bottom/ cleaned-out ?
Listening to backup beepers all day would be deafening.
It does get noisy in there. The dust bothers me more than the back up alarms
Why no quit backup alarm ,Volvo has it 🤷🏻♂️
Thay should have misters.

what is that chute thing in the back corner there flowing stuff back down to the pit?
Maybe trash being separated from the recycle side…
Theres another tipping floor that sorts residential garbage. Non recyclables get sent to the main trash pit
Where does the waste go once in the main dumping pit?
This is an awesome video. I’m left wanting more. How do they get all the trash out of the bottom?
There's two large openings where 18 wheeler trucks are loaded up. It cant be seen on the video, I will try to get a video of the process
@GarbageGus yeah that would be cool to see. I've never seen a transfer station this big. The way the trucks back in is sweet.
Seems there no recycling done wherever state or county is.

watcha doing son? watching garbage on youtube mom ....yes son its all garbage

Why waste time separating? 99% ends up in the landfill anyway.
The moment every person separate at home is the possibillity to keep garbagecost lower per house. Simply because the waste removal services can make some money when everything is separate.

Great video have you ever driven 5he garbage to the landfill or would that be a different position
Job Security. Where does the tranfered waste go?
Where are they transferring it to
Probably the landfill
Another good video, thank you, I like it.
Are the dozers just spreading the trash out? Kinda confused about this operation
They compact it, load into trailers and off to the landfill.
@@GarbageGus gotcha, didn’t think dozers would compact it much.
Seems as if they would use a compactor instead with a blade probably be be on fuel consumption
The goal isn’t to pack it at compactor levels, the dozers just knock it down so it doesn’t back up to the height of the trucks. The material is constantly loaded into semi trailers and you’ll see actual 936 compactors at the landfill where airspace is $$$
So is this where all the trash we sort into different bind go to?
Lol probably
Unfortunately, recycling is mostly a myth.
What happens to all that trash when it reaches capacity
surprised to see C&D getting dumped with household but a neat set up looks like it makes it fast and efficient for the guys dumping
People order drop boxes as trash. If its ordered as trash it goes in the pit. C&D goes to another pile for sorting
Used to haul foundry waste to a WM cell near me with an end dump tractor trailer. The 'thaw' was brutal. Bring a chain and muck boots. 😂
what happens when the dump is full? thanks
I bet that place just smells wonderful
The smell of money... tons of money is made off garbage
@@GarbageGus I’ll pass thank you
Where is this?
I hope that there is good ventilation in there with all that diesel exhaust

Mmmmm I can smell it from here. Always used to love going to the dump with my Dad.
👍👍
What was the weight of that load? You had that that packed like a brick!! Awesome aerial shot!! 🤩
wow awesome video

there was a whole ass bike in there
Been waiting for one of these videos. Wish we could go inside and watch it live. Do they allow the public in there?
I doubt it for safety thats a WM transfer station so its full sized trucks not for private company dumping ethier
Any boneheads ever back the truck in over the edge??😂🎉
No but a ton of compactors and roll off boxes have fallen inside

That's why you always make sure the roll off box is all the way into the stops, and safety chains in place!
@GarbageGus I drive Roll-off... how do they loose the box off the truck? The mess that falls out when you open the gate and then need to back over that, could be a problem
Ca serait intéressant de voir ce qu'ils dont de tout ça ensuite ..
Seems that much of the groundwork could be automated, we already have unmanned Harvesters and plows for farmland.
Dont give them any ideas, we will be unemployed 😁
the smell must be awesome I could live in that pit with all that awesome garbage
For as much garbage and who knows what else is buried there it doesnt smell as bad as some people would think it does.
Recycling would be cheaper if so many didn’t “wish recycle “ stuff that isn’t currently recycleable and put so much garbage in the recycling.
It's too hard to control. You have people to wash, sort recycle properly then there's those who just toss everything in the trash. Then there is the group who doesnt know and orders a dumpster and tosses everything away thinking it will get sorted.
God.. I just realize to, how the heck they stay so longer in those machine breathing all that crap., thanks for the video.
Trash to energy plasma arc incinerators help with cheap power and a very small amount of inert ash produced. Japan has used them , NY has one and others operate in Florida.
I'd be very surprised is the state we live in would allow a incinerator 👀
Incinerators use a scrubbing system that eliminates pollution to almost zero. Unlike landfills full of toxins
