Pope Pius XII put the writings of Sr. Faustina on the Index Librorum Prohibitorum [Index of Forbidden Books].He also disapproved of the painting. That meant that he considered that their content would lead Catholics astray or in the wrong direction. Next, came other prohibitions made by Pope John XXIII. Twice in his pontificate, the Holy Office issued condemnations of the Divine Mercy writings.
Cardinal Ottaviani, as head of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith (CDF), was responsible for the suppression of the Divine Mercy devotion. The Holy Office declared that “There is no evidence of the supernatural origin of these revelations.”

Your incorrect in claiming the local bishops approved of this devotion & cult. It was the complete opposite. In fact in 1957 the Holy Office after consulting with the Polish episcopate banned the devotion & cult, after the majority of the bishops were against it. s. Faustina’s local ordinary at the time - Archbishop Jalbrzykowski was highly critical of Sister Faustina's revelations, as well as the activities of Father Michael Sopocko, who promoted devotion according to her revelations: "I adore God's mercy and always beg the Lord God for it, but about the Divine Mercy devotion proposed against the background of Sister Faustina's revelations-visions, my views are very negative for very different reasons."
The archbishop cited canon law mandating bishops to exercise great caution in approving new prayers, devotions and images, as well as a 1937 decree by the Holy Office not to introduce new forms of worship and devotions. Finally, he considered it "incompatible with the spirit of the Holy Church to promote this devotion.*

When God sees the world pays no attention He offers as the last means of salvation, His Most Holy Mother
This prayer is much better as it actually involves some work:
*"Queen of Martyrs, your heart suffered so much. I beg you, by the merits of the tears you shed in these terrible and sorrowful times, to obtain for me and all the sinners of the world the grace of complete sincerity and repentance. Amen"*
It asks to give sinners the grace of complete sincerity and repentance and not mercy, mercy, mercy, like the DM prayer does. God's treasury of mercy is already open to all but you can't have without sincere repentence and that's what you all need to be praying for

Feel free to correct me, but my understanding is that for a normal plenary indulgence it is necessary that one have a complete interior rejection of all connection to sin (this is above and beyond mere repentance). We're talking about God here, he can choose to pour his Mercy out upon mankind any way he chooses. God knows how almost impossible it is for us mere sinners to meet the requirements of a plenary indulgence, so if he, out of his infinite love for us, gives us a day when we don't need to meet those requirements, who are we to argue?? Your objection reminds me of the story in the Bible of the man who was told that in order to be cured he would need to simply go bath in a river..he couldn't accept that that's all that would be required of him.
If this devotion really does come from Jesus (which I 100% believe that it does) then who are we to question it? If it's not from Jesus then at the very worst, all those people who fulfill the requirements of Divine Mercy Sunday, aren't receiving the plenary indulgence..but they are still (hopefully) making valid & worthy Confessions & receiving Jesus worthily in Holy Communion..is that really so problematic for you?

Timothy, there is one primary source you didn't look at, that's the published correspondence of Sr Lucia of Fatima. Quite a few of those letters contain revelations she had from Jesus and were written around the same years Sr Faustina is supposed to have had her own revelations.
If you read those letters of Sr Lucia and the diary of St Faustina, side by side, you quickly realise they can't be both from the same Jesus.
The same applies, if you for e.g. compare the contemporary private revelations of Sr Lucia and those of Bl. Alexandrina Da Costa or those of Bl Pierina de Micheli.
In general, you may gain a very different perspective if you place side by side and compare private revelations from different mystics which happened to be contemporary, rather than looking at each one in isolation.

I am a traditional Catholic. Society of St Pius the 5th. Was very devoted to the divine mercy and the Rosary in my years of very active Novus Ordo life. Transitioning through the Indult back to the authentic Roman Catholic faith of my youth the Devine Mercy slowly fell of my radars for a straight devotion to the most holy Rosary and the Sacred and emaculate heart. Finding out that Pius the 12th suppressed the devotion and JPII approved it was enough for me to error toward the valid teaching magisterium of the true church and reject the Vatican II and John Paul too Church. Therefore I stopped doing the devotion. No I'm very aware that the wicked Freemasons has the ear of the papal posses surrounding the Pope. These high ranking Satanists wage war against the blessed mother's interventions which is going to crush their heads in due time. Long before Vatican two the corrupt heiarchy fought against Fatima and Lourdes etc. Just because a pope was talked into the suppressing something doesn't mean it is bad at all. As much as the prayers of the Divine chaplet are profoundly Catholic I think in these confusing times it's best to obey the authentic church and stay on the narrow track so as not to be diverted from the straight path that's my position for Little it's worth.

I enjoyed this! I’ll pray for you as you consider the matter at hand. (Not a guild member, so only commenting on this)
I will say though, I do not concede that it promotes presumption on God’s Mercy. In truth my encountering the diary *broke me* of presumption and led me to have the courage that *I needed to repent in the confessional* to the extent that I very likely over confessed at times. When I reread the diary to check objections, I noted down many entries that disprove this idea. I can point you to some if you’d like.
Regarding your small qualm about the novena going through Easter week, I would just point out that there’s no problem going to Mass in this time either.

who says we have to be united in everything? it is called 'free will'. We are not robots who act, or pray, the same. Depending on how far we have journeyed in our faith, there will be varying degrees of discernment. If we are all expected to act as 'one', I mean, rigidly so, then which 'one'... is it the nun in the Carmelite order? Is it the local priest who prays facing away from the altar? Is it the hermit in the rocks? The 'ONE' that unites us to the Father, is Christ through His mother. The Mass is the closest we get to heaven on this earth as Christ descends to us, not us building the tower to force our entry into heaven. The DM is like us forcing God to forgive us without our daily humility and repentence. It more resembles the Jewish day of atonement, which is kabbalist, steeped in mysticism.

I don't get the presumption objection..to avail of the graces on Divine Mercy Sunday, you have to go to Confession & receive Holy Communion worthily...all the same conditions apply on that day in order to make a valid Confession & receive Holy Communion worthily as they do on any other day & you also have to do the penance that the Priest prescribes to you, after your confession...so repentance & penance are implied in the Promise.
If you leave the Church straight after receiving Holy Communion, commit a mortal sin & then drop dead, you will still go to hell..so it's not a free for all Mercy, with no conditions.
We should be rejoicing in how infinitely Merciful our God is in giving us poor miserable sinners this chance of a fresh start once a year, instead of second guessing & trying to poke holes in this devotion just like the Pharisees did with Jesus during his time on earth.

Exactly - to get the graces from divine mercy you must go to confession, do your penance and receive Our Lord with reverence.
There is no presumption. I’m not assuming God will just forgive me, I am doing what Christ asked because I love Him and like divine mercy says ‘Jesus I trust in you’ that Christ only says what He means.
Additionally Divine Mercy Sunday only wipes the slate clean of temporal punishment for previous CONFESSED AND REPENTED sins. If you don’t confess and repent for your sins you are not forgiven for them through His divine mercy.
If anything getting more people thinking about how they receive Our Lord when participating in the divine mercy can only bring about great spiritual fruits and hopefully restore the lost reverence.

They claim that the Diary says that you can live in sin, pray the chaplet before death, not repent and be saved. This is not at all what's in the Diary. There are other promises of this type in the Church, received through private revelation, and we know that they aren't so simple. I think what the magisterium had to say about Sister Faustina, when they suppressed her is crucial. That ultimately is all that matters.

Simultaneously, what’s the chance of someone who’s really against it changing their mind in such a situation? Both can happen, but you know what I mean.
Are you aware that the diary predicted the suppression? With accurate detail such as 1. Spiritual director living to see it and suffering because of it, 2. Spiritual director dying before it would triumph, 3. That it would triumph, 4. That both the spiritual director and St Faustina will have died before it triumphed? Entry 378
“Once as I was talking with my spiritual director, I had an interior vision-quicker than lightning-of his soul in great suffering, in such agony that God touches very few souls with such fire. The suffering arises from this work. *There will come a time when this work, which God is demanding so very much, will be as though utterly undone* . And then God will act with great power, which will give evidence of its authenticity. It will be a new splendor for the Church, although it has been *dormant in it from long ago* . That God is infinitely merciful, no one can deny. He desires everyone to know this before He comes again as Judge. He wants souls to come to know Him first as King of Mercy. When this triumph comes, *we shall already have entered the new life* in which there is no suffering. *But before this, your soul [of the spiritual director] will be surfeited with bitterness at the sight of the destruction of your efforts.* However, this will *only appear to be so,* because what God has once decided upon, He does not change. But although this destruction will be such only in outward appearance, the suffering will be real. When will this happen? I do not know. How long will it last? I do not know.” (My boldening)
Notice also the talk of it being dormant. Interesting that the prayers which make up the chaplet already existed, for instance.
There’s also allusion to it in the vision of her canonization:
      Entry 1045
“ some clergymen whom I did not know began to examine me and to humiliate me, or rather, what I had written; but I saw how Jesus himself was defending me and giving them to understand what they did not know”

I think it’s also worth noting that (and idk much about Garabandal) that it remains in condemned status, if they ‘prophesied’ what you said, they haven’t yet succeeded, whereas St Faustina has. That fact accompanied by the other fulfilled prophesies and the undeniable medical miracles coming in in time to make St Faustina the 1st St of the new millennium speak volumes.

But it's not true that this devotion requires no repentance...it's also just one day a year in which God chooses to open the floodgates of his Mercy for us in this way. It would be foolish to refuse this gift to us. Jesus also warns us in the apparitions about his Divine Justice so it's not a free for all Mercy with no requirements. You still need to go to confession & all the conditions of a good & worthy confession still apply, which include sorrow for sin, repentance & reparation. I'm no fan of Vat II but the more l hear Trad's arguing against this devotion, the more it reminds me of the Pharisees' arguments against Jesus. Also, some of Jesus' criticisms of the Pharisees could be aimed towards certain Trads imo. I'm really starting to re-evaluate my stance on Traditional Catholicism.

Simplistic and false characterization. 1st of all Lefebver didn’t reject V2 , he singed the documents . 2nd, V2 doesn’t teach false ecumenism. 3rd DM doesn’t teach against the need to repent. You reading you own agenda into everything.

@@CRUSNET Friend, your missing the point . If one can state Lefebver rejected the council, one can equally state he accepted the council. Truth is , there’s evidence for both. He singed the council, and later even after he publicly criticized the council, he singed an agreement with Rome accepting the council in harmony with Tradition, and was agreed he could offer criticism on certain aspects that were not definitive. He later broke that agreement, due to a distrust of Rome but not because anything was contrary to the faith in the agreement. It is cherry picking and a half truth to just assert He rejected the council. If you want to assert he rejected the council with no further distinctions, then you give credibility to those who say he was schismatic.

How does Divine Mercy devotion presume unconditional salvation? The Divine Mercy devotion INCLUDES the sacrament of penance/confession/reconciliation, which always includes actual penance. Of course, the penance we receive from the priest is (I'm sure) almost always incomplete - meaning there will be more to be had in purgatory - but it is there... As a trad myself, these critiques and controversies of anything remotely new in the Church (from the 20th Century) is tiresome, silly, and scrupulous. It's starting to feel 'click-baity.' Do we trust the Church or not? I mean, when somrthing is manifestly against the faith, it's our duty to reject it. But not this. At the amazing FSSP parish that I attend, we had a beautiful celebration of Divine Mercy Sunday. The Image was shown in many places in the church and even on the priest's chasuble. And there wasn't an overemphasized on the feast.

I agree, I also attend the Latin Mass also but the constant objections to anything that has come about in the Church since Vat ll from certain extreme Trads is really tiresome..do they not believe the Holy Spirit is still guiding the Church? Look at all the Eucharistic miracles that have happened at NO masses over the last few decades..do they think that they're all the work of the evil one..or faked? It's really starting to make me question Traditional Catholicism..the naysayers aren't just objecting, they're angry, bitter & resentful about these things.

The whole thing is ridiculous! People just need to get on with it and be good, holy, devout Catholics. Fake Catholic podcasts like these are actually anti-Catholic, used to spread disinformation and confuse Catholics. Timothy, who runs this podcast has an anti-Catholic agenda.

13:24 this is quite simply false. The Medjugorje seers have gone thru more modern scientific/neurological and psychological testing than any seers in Church history, and they have always been found “absent of deceit,” while also showing sustained ecstatic states resistant to external stimuli yet while simultaneously reacting neurologically to an object of sight. I won’t stand for the unfounded claims against these final, most crucial apparitions of the Blessed Mother which she herself has said are the fulfillment of Fatima and the final apparitions of this kind on planet earth.

As Dr. Mark Miravalle, one of the world’s leading and most respected Mariologists has stated, a healthy skepticism cannot be more strict than the Church’s own discernment and investigative methodology, which has been trending more and more positively on Medjugorje, endorsing it as a shrine, approving parish pilgrimages, bearing the neither decidedly approved nor disapproved (as is impossible until the apparitions end).
