  • The Capri was launched in 1969 as the European counterpart to the wildly popular Mustang in the USA. In 1970 a new version, called RS 2600, was introduced for the German market and featured some very serious modifications, making Capri one of the fastest cars in Europe at that time. The engine was a Cologne 2.6-liter OHV 2-valves V6, reassembled by Weslake and also featured its special all-alloy cylinder heads. The Capri RS2600 used Kugelfischer fuel injection to raise power to 150 bhp and also received modified suspension, a close ratio gearbox, lightened bodywork panels, ventilated disc brakes and aluminium wheels. It could hit 100 km/h from a standstill in 7.7 seconds.
    The RS 2600 was immediately used as a basis for the racing model, which was built in order to comply with Group 2 rules. It was raced in the 'up to 3-liter' category in many championship where FIA Group 2 cars were accepted but it mainly collected its success in the European Touring Car Championship. Being fielded in this 'under 3 liter' category, the V6 engine of the steet-legal version was increased in displacement in various steps until reaching the final 2995cc mark in 1973. This final evolution had 320 hp at 7600 rpm and boasted a torque of 324 Nm at 5500 rpm. The curbweight of the car was around 920 kg.
    The Gr. 2 RS 2600 was also provided with a new aerodynamic package in late 1972 that was needed for higher top speeds on faster tracks. The car was made famous in the European Touring Car Championship by drivers such as Jackie Stewart, Jochen Mass, Klaus Ludwig, Emerson Fittipaldi, Toine Hezemans, Dieter Glemser.
    I thought to have accumulated more material over the years honestly but anyway you can appreciate some Capri RS 2600s I recorded being raced in Peter Auto's Heritage Touring Cup championship. Enjoy the sound of the V6 engine (featuring different exhaust configurations) in action at Imola Circuit, at Autodromo Nazionale Monza and at Circuit Paul Ricard!

    In 1979 I had a 1977 Ford Capri 2.8 V-6 with Headers two and a half inch exhaust and twin Anza Tips, it had an amazing sound, my license plate was geared perfect, at 6,000 rpm in 1st was 30 mph, 2nd 60 mph, 3rd 90 mph and 4th was 120, it was one b of my favorite cars. The Fiesta Flash

    4:38 the front inside wheel is off the ground!

    • @ZeroKey92
      @ZeroKey92 3 года назад +2

      With my basic understanding of suspension setup I can tell you that this comes from too stiff or too soft setups. If the suspension is extremely stiff even the slight body roll might be too much for the wheel to remain on the ground. Same goes for too soft where the body roll is so extreme that the wheel gets lifted. There are surely more reasons this can happen but those are beyond what I know. Obviously a wheel coming off the ground is less than desirable as you need it to get as much grip as possible to improve cornering speed. From what I've seen this seems to be mostly a problem with older cars so, I'd assume that this was amongst other reasons a consequence of technical limitations. Though I have seen this on more modern cars but I presume that those where set-up wrong.

    • @NekoPufferPPP
      @NekoPufferPPP 3 года назад

      @@ZeroKey92 The rear anti-roll bar is made softer to increase grip levels on the rear tires and prevent oversteer. This can sometimes leave the front anti-roll bar too stiff, or intentionally too stiff in order to prevent the front from turning in too much and causing oversteer.
      Very rude of you to assume I don't know why it happens.

    • @ZeroKey92
      @ZeroKey92 3 года назад +2

      @@NekoPufferPPP I don't see how I was rude at all. I don't know you and I don't know how much you know about this topic (evidently more than I). I was trying to be helpful while at the same time stating that I only knew some basics, leaving the door open for corrections. You could paraphrase my opening statement to "correct me if I'm wrong". A polite way to interact with someone whose depth of knowledge you don't know.
      Your claim that I'm being rude while I'm actually being polite makes you the rude one by being socially insensitive.

    Ford, probablement recordman des machines à plaisir, que ce soit en rallye ou sur circuit... Quelle époque merveilleuse! Les voitures actuelles sont ridicules, tout particulièrement sur le plan sonore. Ici, le son change en fonction du régime et on sent que le moteur respire et fait ce qu'il peut et veut. Pas besoin d'électronique à la con pour le brider ou le faire pétarader stupidement. De vraies bagnoles, quoi, et on sent la jubilation de leurs pilotes, même à l'extérieur.
