- Extremely rare footage (it took me over ten years to find some!) featuring a part review (6 rounds) of the 1981 Tricentrol BSCC season, the last but one season run to Group 1 regulations.
The video covers the battles between the Gordon Spice Racing, Equipe Esso, Daily Express/CS-H/Rouse Capri's, the TWR/Daily Express and Martin Thomas/Patrick Motor sport Rover V8's,and the TWR Mazda RX7 of eventual overall series champion, Win Percy.
Gordon Spice not only raced in the UK but he came down here to the Caribbean back in the early 70s much to the enjoyment of motor racing fans here in Guyana and Barbados. Thank you Gordon for the time spent with us.

Bollocks. Neville specialised in one-off videos like this. He wasn't a regular TV commentator. Murray, Barry Gill, Steve Rider, and loads more dead normal blokes did nearly all the commentaries. David Coleman, Des Lynam, Dickie Davies, Barry Nutley, all had regional accents as did the local newscasters.

I still miss my Capri after 22 years! MK3 in red, just like in the video. One of the best cars I ever had!

@@rhannay39 He's speaking in RP (received pronunciation), more commonly referred to as "BBC English". The criticism of his pronunciation is not unfounded. He is indeed pronouncing chicane incorrectly. Given that his only job here is to speak clearly and accurately in order to provide a useful commentary of events, one could fairly and accurately refer to the commentator as a prat (the official definition meaning "incompetent").
The 80s and 90s where the best era for btcc
70's til mid 90's when the cars looked like what you could actually buy! It's all been very un-touring car since then. Basically it ended up being silhouette racing and then town centre car park gang style racing like the rubbish we have now.

Good grief. I have to ask some questions:
- How awesome were the sounds from those Capri V6's and Rover V8's?
- Would it be great to see the BTCC back in Mallory Park, however unlikely it may be?
- How many cars were on that Thruxton Grid? I counted 32!!
- Those old Dunlops and Goodyears must have been screaming in agony, how did the drivers keep those cars planted without so much as any sign of aero?
- What's the deal with Neville Hay's pronunciation of chicane?
- Who's the better car tuner, Gordon Spice or Andy Rouse? (Actually I can answer that one - it's Andy, at that time the World's Fastest Coventrian)
Unfortunately in the first races at mallory they don’t show footage of the racing elsewhere on the circuit
As much as I love the American (USA) motor vehicle technology, I would rather watch the British and the Australian races. Too bad about the non event V8 Supercars. You might as well be bored by the Formula 1.
