One of the best engines Cosworth made, a bored out 3.0 Ford Essex V6 engine to 3412cc, DOHC 24v, Lucas Fuel Injection, makes 462hp at 9000rpm and 300 lb/ft of torque, naturally aspirated. I believe Ric Wood Motorsports have even built a 4.0L one that makes more than 500hp and near 350lb/ft -ish torque.
I Love the fact that there’s no fancy trickery or turbos with these engines just pure power made by some incredible engineering and one of the best sounds to ever hit the racetrack. And despite them being around 50 years old I bet even today they would give some modern track cars a run for there money!
We had these in South Africa as well. But as South Africans do we made our own home brewed muscle car. It was called the Capri Perana V8, the only production V8 Capri that existed. Only 500 were made for homologation purposes. Used a 302cid Windsor and a Borg Warner 4 speed as well as a LSD rear end. I owned number 366 about 20 years ago.
What beautiful race cars! I bought a new '74 V6 Capri 4 speed back in the day, $4,000 new. Drove it for 13 years. One of the most dependable cars I ever owned. I had suspension done with 15 inch enki wheels. Love these modified Capri s n fenders. Nice watching this!
I recall back in the '70s when I lived in the UK for 7 years. A great delight was Brands Hatch and Gordon Spice racing his RS3100 Cparis. I watched as the front air dam tried to kiss the track under full brakes. The engine screamed like a banshee on heat. Bring back the retro Capri with a boot full of welly. Fond memories from the past.
And now compare this to the modern DTM. These old cars produce so much more of a show. The sound. Great. And these cars are moving! Oversteer! Lovely...
0:56 Sounds like 1000hp car:):) Really great sound! We need this engine in modern cars!!! 2:00 Nice fliped RPM thing. 2:18 I want this as phone ring sound somehow:)
I smile from ear to ear I’ve had a love affair with the mk1 Capri 3.0 from the age of 7 my brother raced them my first at 17 (YLG 113J) was and is the first of 11 . They are imo the best Ford produced these iconic awsome race cars epitomise this just awsome ! 🇬🇧✌️👏👏👏
enjoyed this mix of pit and track action - thanks to all concerned (hoping to resume work on an Essex-powered road-going wide-arch Mk1 this year so is good motivation seeing & hearing these bad-boys)
This was the craze in Jamaica when I was 10ish! Every youngster wanted one. There was one that was getting close to 200mph dubbed "Murther" for murder. It could scream!
I had a 1967 Mercury Capri 2.8 L 4 speed, it had the Blue Ford Logo on the door seals, I had a two and a half inch exhaust with dual answer tips, my license plate was HUMMV6, at 6,000 rpm in 1st was 30 mph, 2nd was 60 mph, 3rd 90 mph, 4th 120, all day long, I had 4 spoke American Racing Libre Wheels it was bone white with black interior with a fun car it was, and at 76 I'm driving a 2014 Ford Fiesta ST turned, it's a street legal go-kart. The Fiesta Flash
Watched these racing at Zandvort back in the day with the Batmobile BMWs and the Jaguar V12 Coupes. I honestly thought that the works Capris had the Cologne V6. The sound track is feckin amazing as it was then.
I remember seeing lots of these back in the day but one of these stuck out. I saw one in Ballarat back in the early 80s. It was red, a V6 with dragway mags and a blower sticking out of the bonnet. The bloke sat at the lights, car rocking from the cam and when it went green he friggin floored it and it sounded sweet. I always wondered what one would be like with a 289 in it.
Theres one in my country runing in the classics. But it must have a stockish engine cause it doesnt have itbs. But more than half of the grid are made of escorts with 1.6 engine, and those have itbs. What a sound they have
Oh I'm not sure I can agree on that. I love 67 / 68 Mustsng fastbacks. I like capris too. I have an RS2600 , a works Group 2 and anither V6 roadcar project. The Cosworth Group 2 car looks pretty great but a 67 GTA is pretty hard to beat.

Amazing this outputs that much torque and power in NA state.
@@SssagaBenches4U Exactly, and an engine that was made in 1972

@EugVR6 old school power! 👍👍🤙
The best looking, and sounding, Capris,
EVER. From the best days of Touring Cars.
Oh ! How I’m going to miss those ev’s 😐 🦬 💩
One of the best sounding cars ever
Yes!
V6’s sound too much like a rice burner. American V8 is king for sound or the European 12 Cylinder.
That was Motorsport pur in the „old“ days, the Sound, the hard work on steering Wheel .... i miss it.
Unpopular opinion: this Ford Capri we didn't get in the states is a better looking car than any Mustang ever.
We had these in South Africa as well. But as South Africans do we made our own home brewed muscle car. It was called the Capri Perana V8, the only production V8 Capri that existed. They came in the early 1970’s as Mercury Capris I had one as my first car.
Now that's an unpopular opinion
I wouldn’t say ever but from the same year, yes
Actually they were sold here in the US from 1970 to 1978 with the 1974 being the mk2 design.
Im loving the tie wrap trick on the throttle arm for warming the engine up. Simple but effective !
They sound fantastic.
Einer der besten Renntourenwagen aller Zeiten.
Auf jeden Fall.

That engine....absolutely fantastic !
Superb!!!
I love Ford Capri RS. The stock car race is totally awesome.
Many, many thanks for this video 🙏 The Capri sound is like a opera music in my ears 😂 Best Ford touring car ever 👍

Automobile Träume !!! Das Schönste, was FORD je auf die Räder gestellt hat. ; - )
We need more cars like this
Don't you love the way you have to coax old race cars to start. It's like bringing Franksteins monster to life.
and lets not forget to thank Bozzy for giving us petrol heads the content we love.
Absolut 👍
It gets old fast. But I agree, there’s something romantic about old school simplified tech
Yep love it!
The straight six engine sounds absolutely incredible ❤
Not only does this car sound beautiful, but it looks beautiful as well! Well done Bozzy!
Thanks for watching!
This is racing cars engine wheel and driver, not a bounch of electronics,It sounds amazing
Superb! The blue/white has a sound like a real beast!!!! Thanks for sharing from Germany. 🇩🇪
Wow! Thanks for sharing this! Gotta love the Cosworths!!👍🇦🇺😎🏁
It's a beautiful work of art under the hood!
Judging by its sound, this thing eats competitors for breakfast! I got instant chills when the first full throttle shot was running..
Rod birley used one in his sierra and Honda prelude i. Thundersaloons in the 80's and 90's the GAA is the sound of a happy childhood for me
OMG what a great looking car, and the sound is orgasmic! I am in love with this car.
Always loved these cars. Anything from a I4 to a small V8 would fit. Properly tuned, they could out-corner and outrun a lot more expensive vehicles.
Grrrrrrrrrreat! That's how ALL motors should sound!!!💪👍
Awesome coverage. Your panning shots make me feel like I'm there. Thanks for putting in the great work!
Love this sound so much, reminds me on my 3.4l oversized Essex engine.
I love these Capris ‼️ I was heartbroken when my 73,2600 was destroyed years ago! I miss that car❤️❤️❤️❤️
And now compare this to the modern DTM. These old cars produce so much more of a show. The sound. Great. And these cars are moving! Oversteer! Lovely...
These are proper cars
Heart beating sound
Always a great looking car. These sound fantastic and go so well. Fabulous!
All these stunning mk1 a for my legend dream garage of only mk1 capris 🙏🏻👏👏👏🏴
My friend has one of the works Capris but with the Westlake headed V6 and not the Cosworth DOHC engine. It still sounds great!
0:56 Sounds like 1000hp car:):)
Really great sound!
We need this engine in modern cars!!!
2:00 Nice fliped RPM thing.
2:18 I want this as phone ring sound somehow:)
@LF X Yes but not with this sound:)
The best V6 ever, on par with BMWs in-line 6
Ford England should have brought out a limited edition road version of the Capri with that 3.4 litre Cosworth engine
There was the Broadspeed Capri. My friend had one... it was too much for him!!! it was a BEAST.... :-)))
It would have been far too dangerous lol
Nick Whitings All Car Equipe Escort used the same engine, 450bhp.
lovely noise
Awsome thanks Bozzy 👍 😎
Thanks for posting this, best thing I have seen lately ! So many Capris in one place !
Beautiful car!
The Essex V6 and Busso V6 are probably the best sounding V6s out there
I'm a die hard Chevrolet GM guy but these cars are beautiful in every way now if only a left hand drive unit for my dream garage 😁
Best sound!👾☱♫♪🏁🏁🏁

Wow ,love them Capris :)

Fabulous.
Yes, Yeah! the real Racecars ,the one and only are Escort`s and Capri incl. Zakspeed

Yo lo tengo en slot 👏
The best sound was the howl down the long straight !!
This is a men‘s car 🤩👍
Wanted to buy in Phoenix AZ USA 1975 or 1976 Mercury (Ford) Capri. No rust running or not.
Thank You! Something we never see here in the states.
INCREDIBILE!
EV OWNERS WILL NEVER UNDERSTAND
Loved the south African V8 PARANA Capri it was called the Beast
What a melody

The only 6 cylinder turbo car I would ever touch
The sound is so yummy 🤤🤤
The only mention to Group 2 that I’ve seen. I was beginning to think it was my imagination and that the Group 2 series never existed.
Cool video!
I want one.👍👍✌

Bellissimo canzone del Capri.

Awesome video. Any footage of that AMC Javelin by any chance?

The man who tuned that v6 must have studied music
OMG yas this is a symphony
That's the genius of Cosworth
@@retrogamersev5543 The Genius by Cosworth was Mike Hall
