Thank you for this video--I'm going to buy one this weekend. I've always wanted a killswitch after listening to Buckethead but never wanted to modify my guitar to do so. This is such a simple solution. No idea why no one has been making these cables!! EDIT: Could you put the cable you're using in the description?
I've already heard about these D'Addario cables before, so when you said "I bought this D'Addario cable" I understood instantly what you made with it. Such a great trick, btw!! Really useful!!
Thanks for the Killswitch alternative hack. Upon looking for this cable, I found that D’addario does sell one with a 90° angle plug that seems like it would be more sturdy, or put less stress on guitar output jack.
Stumbled on this three years late while scheming about how to build my own buckethead knockoff. Really sort of disposes of the issue without need to onboard the electronics. Now for that Hyperswitch... Anyways, this was helpful. Thanks, Mark!
Pretty sure the OG kill switch involved the switch between the individual and middle positions, not really being on a setting, rather than switching between a pickup with volume up and one with volume at zero. Eddie Van Halen, Tom Morello, and Buckethead certainly like their kill switch buttons, though.
It's not a simulation, it is the same thing. Do you have a Gretsch? There is a trick, they have a "kill switch" built into the design. Just turn off the volume on one pickup. Put the 3-way switch on the other pickup, then switch to the middle position (both pickups) to KILL the sound. Some Gibson guitars can do this too, basically guitars with volume pots for each pickup can do this, not sure if it works with all wiring setups with more then one volume control.
Heyheeeeey, thanks for this protip, that's really solid. I don't think it outright replaces the idea of a killswitch built into a guitar, but super useful lifehack method. Thanks my guy
Buy a Sanwa button, they cost like 5 bucks and let someone who knows how to do it, drill the hole, or do it yourself, if your know how to drill the hole without damaging the wood or finish But i have to say, to use the cable is a cool trick
Another way you can do a kill switch that pretty much comes on every guitar is that you can have one pickup volume set to 0 & the other(s) to ten, then that will work as well, like you said, & Tom Morello does actually do it himself with his arm the homeless guitar, lol.
man, i saw some marketing for these when they first came out, i thought that was just a handy idea, but i think they dropped the ball just a little because that ability could have been showcased as a feature. way to think outside the box big fan here bro!
Also worth noting, for short money you can buy or DIY an arcade button on a small pedal box, and do the kill switch with your foot ,and every guitar you plug into your pedal board.
I've got a planet wave that has the kill switch it's not a momentary one (least the one I have) works pretty good had it a long time no issues with it also believe life time warrenty
If I move too quickly my cable comes loose and that sounds like a kill switch. I need to get that fixed because it will do that all too often when I'm playing solos or just really getting into it and move the guitar the wrong way
Just watched metallica play fade to black live in concert and when james goes from clean sound to distortion he just flicks a switch on his guitar I would like to be able to do this any thought how this is possible plz
Hmm..... I have a question. Will the button broke after many times of usage..? Coz’ I know it’s not an actual killswitch, and the main function of the cable is for cutting the signal when you switching guitar. So, any ideas..?
I love watching your videos. They’ve helped me A LOT! I especially like not being distracted by bad tattoos or stupid haircuts or tacky jewelry. Thanks!
Heck, I got cables that'll do the kill switch trick automatically...because the connections are loose.
Jajajajajajaja, same here
Says every real guitar player !
Same
Story of my life lmao
Woah ok that’s actually a really good idea, they should have marketed as a kill switch cable
And +$30 just like that
They can't because Santo Angelo already has a cable with that name.
Wait it's coming at $30 up charge.
they did lmaoo
**Buckethead intensifies**
Jordan
@EntityZero tom is a fart to the bucket!
Thanks for the tip! Now I can butcher bucket head songs that I can only get up to 1/4 speed to begin with😁
Can you play up to speed now bro?
I was like “what’s a kill switch” and then when you hit the button I recognized the sound all too well
tøp fan like me
Technically you didn't
Buckethead fan here

Genius! Also D'Addario is going to see an influx in sale now

What’s the name of that cable
@@itz_ty.71 D'addario calls it the "Circuit Breaker."
Perfect for my Tele . Just ordered one.
Such an awesome suggestion. I’ve been thinking about putting one on my Tele but would prefer to try this out before I start drilling holes.
I didn't even know these were a thing. Thanks for the tip Mike!
Muse! Nice!
nice pfp

Hendrix used that on Voodoo Child Slight Return. He just disconnected the middle pickup and used the pickup selector as a kill switch.
Randy Rhoads to me was the guy who made it musical and cool, Always had the neck pick up volume down 🤘
Got an Amazon link for the cable? Never heard of those before
www.amazon.com/DAddario-Circuit-Instrument-Latching-Straight/dp/B01MZ01UB6/
They have L-Shape jacks too
no link but the company is D’addario
I just put foam and tape below the cable for extra protection

If you have Les Paul style controls you could just turn one pickup all the way down and use the switch
That doesn't work if you use both of your pickups though
He actually said this in the vid bro.
That’s what I do lol
Heyyyy I’ve been using this for a while thanks for bringing it to light dude!
Heyheeeeey, thanks for this protip, that's really solid. I don't think it outright replaces the idea of a killswitch built into a guitar, but super useful lifehack method. Thanks my guy
That's awesome . Just ordered one. Thanks!!
Truly wicked alternative, Mike! I'd love to give this a whirl!...Love tips like this!
I neeed one of those cables ASAP!!! Nice FIND
I had a really good patch cord with a kill switch a few years ago. I sold it with the guitar, and regretted it right away.
Johnhitbox sorry for your loss homie
Hi there. There is also a momentary murder one killswitch pedal for guitar bass&keyboard info!
I see a not too distant future where bored Mike is doing mandolin solos on stage with the kill switch. 🤣
Fantastic! Now about adding between the kill cable and the guitar an female to male short cable. Not to damage the guitar jack?
Buy a Sanwa button, they cost like 5 bucks and let someone who knows how to do it, drill the hole, or do it yourself, if your know how to drill the hole without damaging the wood or finish

For Les pauls just turndown the neck pickup volume then turn the pickup selector up and down. Just like what EVH did in 78
man, i saw some marketing for these when they first came out, i thought that was just a handy idea, but i think they dropped the ball just a little because that ability could have been showcased as a feature. way to think outside the box big fan here bro!
I always used the toggle switch technique on my Les Paul and it works pretty good
awesome!! I’ve wanted a kill switch for ages but scared to modify my lovely tele. I’ll for sure give this a try :)
I've been looking for something like this! Thanks so much
WOW! I have never seen a cable like that. Thanks man
Fun fact:
Anyone remember the egg shaker video? Cannibal Corpse uses that same technique for headbanging
Also worth noting, for short money you can buy or DIY an arcade button on a small pedal box, and do the kill switch with your foot ,and every guitar you plug into your pedal board.
Even though I’m not interested in a kill switch this is awesome lol.
what exact model is this? i purchased one but it seems a different, newer model
Wow i have a similar cable and didn't realise what that button was for until now
I just accidentally discovered it today and this video was in mi homepage 😃
Huh, that’s pretty cool, never thought of doing that
I always put in a 5 way and don't wire up one of the pickup selections because it is an instant signal cut off
Hmmm A tuner first in your pedal chain could probably achieve the same thing depending how fast you can move your foot.
Nice tip... Thank you so much. Your job is very helpfull. Salutations from Brazil.
Dude you're a genius! That's amazing.
I didnt even know that thing existed. Nice! Going to have to get one.
That seems really cool, problem is how far it is from the string.
I've got a planet wave that has the kill switch it's not a momentary one (least the one I have) works pretty good had it a long time no issues with it also believe life time warrenty
Thank you kind sir
Ty I seen that cable and was wondering if I could do that
Time to buy that cable!
Hurraaay! Now I can play Bulls on Parade's solo. Or anything Tom Morello does tbh.
Oo that sounds soo good. Just like a kill switch!
wow! that's a new cable. I want this for a new effect.
Cool, thanks! I think I'm going to buy it.
Thanks so much for this trick !
that's pretty cool, I still want a kill switch on my shredder axe though.
what cable is it exactly no links come on I expected better from someone like you
I guess this is how you engage the killswitch
2.45 to say 'Buy a D'Addario cable'. D'Addario is said as dadario with the ar rhyming with car. Ask any Italian.
No, he says what the cable is at 57 seconds. That's on you.
Super cool!!! Love it, thanks!!!
i have a strat so whenever i need to use a kill switch i just randomly adjust the volume cap over and over
Eyy I have that same MOP t shirt.
If I move too quickly my cable comes loose and that sounds like a kill switch. I need to get that fixed because it will do that all too often when I'm playing solos or just really getting into it and move the guitar the wrong way
thanks for this
when did sci-show start making guitar videos
With this cable can we play gurila radio sound?
Your have amazing videos my professor
So is that a non-latching switch?
He looks like a AI generated a picture of Markaplier with a guitar
So usefull man thanks!!!

I love modifying my guitars so I do it anyways 😩 use random spare parts I find usually
Thanks man!
Markiplier? xD great vid man!
BUCKET HEAD GO BRRRRRR
Buckethead master if the kill switch.
Just watched metallica play fade to black live in concert and when james goes from clean sound to distortion he just flicks a switch on his guitar I would like to be able to do this any thought how this is possible plz
Thank you! 😁🤘
Damn it, now i gotta have one of these cables !
Anything like this what i could control with a wah style pedal?
Hmm..... I have a question. Will the button broke after many times of usage..? Coz’ I know it’s not an actual killswitch, and the main function of the cable is for cutting the signal when you switching guitar. So, any ideas..?
Sorry for my bad english 😄
What exactly called this jack and where I can get this?
I love watching your videos. They’ve helped me A LOT!
I especially like not being distracted by bad tattoos or stupid haircuts or tacky jewelry.
Thanks!
