Another question..Where did you route the little coolant outlets on the water neck down by the ac compressor. Also can't figure out where i can put the ford coolant temperature sensor i was supplied a adapter bushing but idk where it goes it doesn't screw on to the head with the adapter bushing
Sorry for the slow reply I unscrewed one of the plugs in the head and installed the transmission and temp sensor. Ford temp sensor in the top of the block.
Did you use the 6.4 electric fuel pump on the frame? Does the 24 valve you have have a lift pump on the engine? Was curious if the 6.4 pump has enough pressure for the vp44. Thank you
I purchased a full truck for 2k and the kit from diesel conversions for 2500 and probably 1500 on random stuff. 12 valve is much easier to work with . $600 for the wiring harness was the best purchase made life so easier.
Thanks. I read in a magzine that it cost $7k plus an engine to do the swap. I can't figure out where all the money would go. I think some of these comapnies want you to buy parts that you don't really need. I found an 08 F-350 needing an engine for sale but the guy wants more than I want to go. This truck is a 08 f-350 XL supercab 6.4 with a ZF6. He wants $5500 USD. I don't think it is worth that. A 6.4 from a junkyard is $10k. It would cost more to put a 6.4 in it than what it is worth, if you had to pay for labor. I may contact him this week and see what he says. I was thinking about making mounts, they look pretty simple. They are $300 now. Buying mounts would really speed up the process though. Mounts are a hassle to make. Thanks for the offer. I may have to take you up on it. I read thought the manual a little last night.

Most of the cummins to ford conversions I do include a leveling kit at the very least because of clearances. also, there should be a place to tap in for oil pressure on the driver side of the block below the fueling stuff. Save that second oil filter port for a bypass.

The plastic clip that holds the linkage to the transmission has adjustment You can try and adjust there. Also there is a safety switch which won’t allow the truck to turn over unless it’s in park or neutral. Also there is a safety that the break must be applied to remove it from park. It may be out of adjustment as well. I hope that helps.

If I had it to do over I’d sent the harness in ! Dcs has been helpful I sourced the conversion parts from them. Should have it started tomorrow. 08 F450 12v I do have a few questions if you have time to hear them
Is it because of the adapter plate that you bolted torque converter on? Ive never had luck with that, ive always screwed up front seal in trans,i always put converter in trans before i mate to engine, then put converter bolts in
Kits vary in price. Depends on you needs. I used diesel conversion they were great to deal with and very helpful. All in I was around 5k. The best purchase was the wiring harness from diesel conversion. Hope this helps.
The wiring diagram attached in the description should help you. You will need to sort out what goes where with your dodge wiring by the colour of wires and use the pin location The pcm from the dodge must be intact as well as the ecm Its a lot of work but start from the ecm and work backwards. The best money that I spent was sending my wiring to diesel conversions and the made me a plug and play wiring harness.
Diesel conversions sent me an adaptor that attached to my original pedal. I drilled a hole through the fire wall and attached it to the throttle position sensor bracket. Not a very hard task. I am still working on a way for cruise control
Brown, Lord of the woodshop™ ok, thanks for the reply. When I talked to them they said they wouldn’t know how I would do it and that I was pretty much on my own for that portion of it.
Brown, Lord of the woodshop™ bought a 2008 f-450 king ranch quad cab with a bad engine in it. Would like to do this conversion to it. Picked the truck up for next to nothing. Only had 89,XXX miles on it.
Oh ok perfect. Hey I’m almost done here I’m just a little lost here on the wiring. On the ignition relay it has 2 wires that say to connect to the pcm. How did you do that
I used the wire from the ford glow plugs and wired the grid heater solenoids to that. The grid heater work by grounding them there is constant hot power to them. When you turn the key on the ford computer sends power to close the solenoid and the grid heater will work. It’s was minus 27 the other day and mine fired right up
Brown, Lord of the woodshop™ ohh ok. I got everything done here and I have the dcs harness and I have 2 wires. That look like grounds labeled heater controlled
The grounds on the dcs wiring go to the two solenoid this completes the circuit for the heater grid. Power is supplied to the grid heater already and the grid heater starts to work when the circuit is complete by turning on the key which grounds the solenoid and closes the contacts.
Where are you putting the cam sensor? Did you purchase the adaptor plate with the slot for the cam sensor? I used my ford cam sensor which fit into adaptor plate. The dodge cam and crank sensor look same be sure to label them they can be reversed and cause you problems later
Yes the plate is the same as mine. You need to take the cam sensor from your old ford motor . At the back of your dodge motor standing behind its in left side you need to take out the frost plug looking thing. on the adaption plate there is a rubber o ring you need and this seals the adaptor plate against the block.
I have recently bought a 2008 f350 to turn it into a fummins. I was thinking of swapping it for a 2006 5.9, This would be my first swap. So Any advice is greatly appreciated. Thank you
Best purchases are a wiring harness. It takes so much time to make one from scratch. The adaptor plate and flywheel is a must. The rest you can probably source easily. Motor mounts are expensive for what you get and they can be easily made. If I were to do it again I would swap out the injection pump for a old school manual pump and change injectors and lines. The Ford 5r10 is a great transmission you will need to buy programming for it Diesel conversion has a solid tune for this. Hope this helps
Im doing the same swap. 24v cummins in a 08 f350. My motor mounts from dcs dont line up and on the alternator bracket are you supposed to use the 6.4 belt or the 24v belt? Bcuz the 24v belt seems too short
Did Dcs send you the right motor mounts? Mine lined up perfect. As for the alternator I used the bracket from dcs and used the 6.4 alternator but I did use the Ac unit from the 24v In the description below there is a file that’s showed the conversion steps. I will look tomorrow to see what holes I used for the motor mounts.
@@brownlordofthewoodshop8552 yes, its the mounts fit on the frame they just dont line up eith eachother on the motor. Its like 2 inches off. I used the alternator bracket too but the 24v belt was too short to fit
Wow you've lost 2 engines? Because of all the hysteria about the 6.4, I have a low mile 24V in a bus for a swap but the 6.4 has 297,000 miles and still running great! Of course it has been deleated since just after new.
Under the view more I have attached a wiring diagram. Basically I used most of the sensors from the ford and put them in the dodge motor. I used a pick up off the front crank for the tack sensor. I kept the ecm and pcm intact and supplied power from the key.

If I had it to do over I’d sent the harness in ! Dcs has been helpful I sourced the conversion parts from them. Should have it started tomorrow. 08 F450 12v I do have a few questions if you have time to hear them
Sure. Send them along
Where are yall out of? could you do mine?
Just north of Toronto.
Great work !! good documentation thank you!! Liked !! everything still going ok??
Thanks . I have over 30k on it and its working great.
@@brownlordofthewoodshop8552 great video, I've got an 08 f250 I'm gonna pull the 6.4 and find a cummins to replace it. Thanks for sharing
Yes still rocking. Almost 500k on the motor
Is it because of the adapter plate that you bolted torque converter on? Ive never had luck with that, ive always screwed up front seal in trans,i always put converter in trans before i mate to engine, then put converter bolts in
For sure that’s another option. I guess I got lucky with the front seal. I just took my time and it slid in.
Awesome 👏🏻
How much you paid for kit conversion and where
Kits vary in price. Depends on you needs. I used diesel conversion they were great to deal with and very helpful. All in I was around 5k.
The best purchase was the wiring harness from diesel conversion.
Hope this helps.
I want a complete kit now I already have the 5.9 24 valve engine I just need the kit for a 6.4 to 5.9 cummins 98.5 do you have a link
www.dieselconversion.com/
good video thanks
Western Champlin is making videos on this!
Western Chaplin is doing a 12 valve swap not 24 valve
@@danielmeyer4515 Oh, I get the difference
How do you connect to computer of the Cummins engine
The wiring diagram attached in the description should help you. You will need to sort out what goes where with your dodge wiring by the colour of wires and use the pin location The pcm from the dodge must be intact as well as the ecm Its a lot of work but start from the ecm and work backwards.
The best money that I spent was sending my wiring to diesel conversions and the made me a plug and play wiring harness.
Did you look at the wiring digram in the description? there are 6 pages of instructions on how to wire the cummins engine.
En donde consigo el kit para en cambio de motor gracias
www.dieselconversion.com/
Espero que esto ayude :)
How did you do the gas pedal? Thanks in advance.
Did you keep the 6.4 exhaust temp sensors?
Yes I did but it was going through the sct programmer. Not the stock ford
Oh ok perfect. Hey I’m almost done here I’m just a little lost here on the wiring. On the ignition relay it has 2 wires that say to connect to the pcm. How did you do that
What did you do so you can use the grid heater??
If you want I can take a picture of mine tomorrow if that will help.
Brown, Lord of the woodshop™ that’s exactly what I did. I think my alt is going out and is just throwing everything out of wack
Hey! im doing this build at the momemt but im stuck with the Cam sensor and ring idk what to do
Where are you putting the cam sensor? Did you purchase the adaptor plate with the slot for the cam sensor? I used my ford cam sensor which fit into adaptor plate.
The dodge cam and crank sensor look same be sure to label them they can be reversed and cause you problems later
yes i have the adapter plate with the slot . mine is for an auto trans.
Brown, Lord of the woodshop™ www.dieselconversion.com/dcs-cummins-adapter-kit-1949.html this is what came with the kit.
Yes the plate is the same as mine. You need to take the cam sensor from your old ford motor . At the back of your dodge motor standing behind its in left side you need to take out the frost plug looking thing. on the adaption plate there is a rubber o ring you need and this seals the adaptor plate against the block.
Did you get them to make you a wiring harness. It was the best money I spent
Thank you for taking the time to respond.
@@brownlordofthewoodshop8552 and thank you, ill take a look at the instructions
How did you make out? It’s 14 below here. I took a quick look and I used the second set of holes from the back of the motor
What year was your donor 24 valve?
1999.
Ok thanks
Where can I get the trans programmed at or how can I get it done ?
I used an Sct livewire programmer I purchased the program from diesel conversion.
How much was this
I did a job like this for my truck
Nice
How much would you charge if i brought you my 2008 f350 with the 24valve 5.9 Cummins to swap in? I live down in Windsor by the way. Thanks😊
Would I be supplying all the parts and the programming ?
@@brownlordofthewoodshop8552 yes😁
Actually i could get any parts needed for the swap and bring them to you as i have access to an American address for shipping parts from the states.
Now I did thank you
Why not 6bt 12v?
The 5.9 is what I had on hand. The 12 v would have so much easier.
Wow you've lost 2 engines? Because of all the hysteria about the 6.4, I have a low mile 24V in a bus for a swap but the 6.4 has 297,000 miles and still running great! Of course it has been deleated since just after new.
Good luck with the 6.4. Mine was a time bomb.
Will you do this for me please sir
Sure. Where do you live.
Couldn’t help but notice that the CEL and another light were both on at the start up. This truck will be a future nightmare regarding repairs.
I have over 250k on it now. No issues except that light
the cummins part of it what goes where
Under the view more I have attached a wiring diagram.
Basically I used most of the sensors from the ford and put them in the dodge motor. I used a pick up off the front crank for the tack sensor.
I kept the ecm and pcm intact and supplied power from the key.
Send me a pic of what you need and what part so i can help. You can send a private message click the about tab click send message button enter private message then send.
I’d like to swap a 6.7 Cummins in. Any thoughts?
Good luck
Hi, Do you sale the harness for the transmission ford with computer ford and engine cummins???
I kept the ford transmission harnessing and used an sct programmer to reprogram the transmission.
In the more description I have the dcs book which shows this process.
4 the price of the new fords they should come with a cummings on a pallet in the bed
How much would u charge to do it on a 2008 f250
Where are you located. I am North of Toronto
Well sure looks like a fixed the Ferd. The 7.3s are good but the idi & Cummins are better.
I have a question i have a 6.0l but i want to do a 12v 6bt swap where can i get parts from? 6.0l is toasted so no potential on that area
I purchased the basic package from Diesel Conversion , Adaptor plate wiring harness and tuning for transmission. If you look at the more tab I have attached a manual that shows what you need . I will help you source parts just let me know what you need . It’s a fun project and you will have a great truck when you are done.
Can't wait to see ram owners put power strokes into their trucks
ROBK2C95 that'd be ironic, seeing a Dodge w a Ford engine. Ram tough w Ford stuff lol
11:17 coke cola can opens
Thanks for the video. Fummins. Lol
Your welcome.
How torque bolted to engine first! SMH bye bye front pump
Knew 6.0 was problem didn’t realize 6.4 was just as bad.
Yep. Just as bad.
@@brownlordofthewoodshop8552 It’s actually worse than the 6.0.
Cabine CHASSI BLACK PAINT TIAGO JAQUES ABINO 123
I don’t think he knows about mechanic cause you never bold the torque converter to the engine first that’s the reason you can damage the pump and the front pump seal .
Diana Rubio I think he does. He just swapped a 24 valve into something not made for it
This question has been answered. Why do people keep bringing it up. Move on. The horse is dead. This was to be a fun video.
who could do that job for me
Sure
Diesel conversion.
I wish
Audio....
How sayid thing was easy
You almost spoke above a whisper in this video. Audio on this is terrible.
Doug Rogillio I can hear it fine.
