    San Jose needs to be building 10 new light rail lines right now if they're *serious* about making the city transit-accessible!

    • @TohaBgood2

      Instead, the mayor and some people on the city council want to tear the tracks out and replace them with "autonomous pods/ mini-busses." I kid you not! They just approved a line that was supposed to be VTA to be built with these nonsense gadgetbahn pod things.
      If you live in San Jose then make sure to complain to your council person. They're doing some weird crap over there.

      This! I don't mind taking the light rail, but they need to make the system clean and safe if they want people to actually ride it. Ditto for BART. It used to be all bougie and clean. Now it's just another rolling homeless shelter like the bus system.

      Yep. The mayor is extremely anti-light rail. They want to replace the entire VTA light rail network. Before he was elected he was proposing that all the time. They want to pave the tracks at great expense and replace the whole light rail system with this PRT crap.
      Complain to your electeds if you live in SJ!

      You shouldn't try to drive everywhere in such a congested region. This ain't Montana. Everybody can't just drive, we physically don't all fit on the roads. We'd have to pave most of the Bay Area for everyone to drive everywhere. It's just not possible.

      Planning, allocating specialized building tools, road closures along a main arterial road, PG&E being PG&E, oh yeah an EIR and CEQA (basically Environmental Impact Report and the California Environmental Quality Act). Oh right and the Cato Institute tried their damndest to block the project, NIMBY (Not In My Backyard) people who hate progress basically.
      Look at BART SV, its taken over a decade and thats just how long it took just to secure funding in a very NIMBY area.

    So you get rid of the exension to Oakridge, and spend billions to go to Eastridge? NONE of this is going to matter until you have an EAST WEST service.

    • @SuburbaniteUrbanite
      @SuburbaniteUrbanite Год назад

      The Almaden line was super unused because it was planned poorly, it could come back on day and I do have a plan for that but VTA would need a lot of securities to ensure it to operate at a loss.

    • @TohaBgood2
      @TohaBgood2 Год назад +1

      East-West service is definitely extremely needed to make this system truly popular. But they could still make this a very well-used system if they allowed something, anything to be build next to the stations. They need a ton of TOD and offices built on this line.
      Of course, they should have planned it better before it was built. Instead of building where nobody lives and works and waiting for the development to catch up, they should have forced through the NIMBY opposition and build the system to where the people are!
      But this is all sunk costs now. At this point the city just needs to work on adding TOD at all the stations and then build an East-West link. This is the only way to get our money's worth.

      If we could hypothetically tear down the big box store portion of the mall and fill its empty unless park lots and garages with useful dense and affordable housing, that line would be very useful again but suburban south San Jose is stuck in 1967 -light rail operator

    How did San Jose get Bart before Solano County? We pay all that money in bridge toll to commute to the City everyday. How many ppl in SanJose are actually working in the City everyday?

      A decent amount cal train is pretty packed in the mornings and evenings. Also they can't put BART or Anything to Solano, Marin etc without rebuilding one of the bridges. The only chance was when the system first started.

    • @PDXLibertarian
      @PDXLibertarian Год назад

      Because Solano County doesn't pay sales taxes into the system. Santa Clara County does. Construction is funded by sales tax bonds. In SF/ContraCosta/Alameda folks pay both sales taxes and GO bond taxes. So, if you want Bart in Vallejo, petition for an initiative to issue G/O bonds to extend the system and raise the sales tax to subsidize operations, and sit back and wait for it to pass with 66% and you'll get your BART.
