      Not bad but you cheated...Not really even with ICLS a case 3 that dark is a lil difficult, gotta trust the computer at that point, sucks when you lose data connection bingo fuel right at last second and have to make the decision of put her down or bolter and try again on fumes.

    This kind of night instrument landing, at sea, with absolutely no visual reference is the definition of "trust the process"

    • @AGSimulation
      @AGSimulation  26 дней назад

      Agreed! Landing at night on an aircraft carrier requires total confidence in the process and procedures. The F18 with the Automatic Carrier Landing System (ACLS) is an outstanding example of how technology and pilot training work together to ensure safe landings even in the most challenging conditions.

      He's using auto carrier landing, (works on a case 2 and 3 only) For your case 1 on your approach just lower gear and drop your flaps adjust trim to ball and steer with stick it puts the hornet into auto landing throttle, this will keep you on proper glide slop and all you have to do is make corrections with stick once you "feel" touchdown got to max throttle for your bolter. Also after hornet ball is established just aim your nose at the wires on carrier. Took me a long time, you'll get it, hornet got a lot of relatively unknown lil bells and whistles. Lots of folks can fly it and drop some jdams but they are not Rhino drivers. I'm part of a training server if your interested just hit me up here Ill get ya in.

    This was done with a lot of patience :) at night i just go like 8-10 NM instead of 3-4 NM and "fuck it" whatever happens 😂 but as a rule of thumb i keep the speed 140-155 and max the throttle on touch (or like a last millisecond before i touchdown)

    • @AGSimulation

      Of course, this helps to maintain more precise control of the aircraft during night landings, mainly using engine power to regulate the descent speed and align with the runway correctly

    Isn’t 250kts the standard speed when in the stack and when you commence?

    • @AGSimulation
      @AGSimulation  Месяц назад

      Yes, 250 knots is the standard speed when in the holding pattern (the stack) and when commencing the approach for landing. I decelerated a bit late

    • @C420sailor
      @C420sailor 26 дней назад +1

      Real F/A-18 pilot here. Any speed you want while holding in the stack. I usually held at 300kts groundspeed to make the timing problem easier (5nm/min). You must be at 250 upon commencing, though, +/- 10 seconds of your push time.

  • @dustinwalker456
    @dustinwalker456 Месяц назад +2

    Do it with ICLS off........NVGS only......then thats impressive. Its still a lil difficult with auto carrier landing though. I rate it a A grade case III recovery otherwise.

      @@typhoonul985 I've spent about that same time in C and D model Hornets, and I assure you, I've used ACLS mode I and II approaches with regularity when needed. I was out before "Magic Carpet" was rolled out to the fleet, but the concept there is the same-raise the bar for safety, recover our valuable personnel and equipment in the most expeditious way possible, and maintain fleet readiness and security. That has been the same since the dawn of Naval Aviation. Greetings to our Italian brothers. I enjoyed my time at Aviano and Sigonella. :)
