Another phenomenal analysis, you two! I wholeheartedly agree with the take that his whole album is his reminiscence (I think that was the word you were thinking of, Dave. Rumination is the negative connotation, remembering the bad parts of the past) of their previous relationship! Loved how you brought up Blood Sport about Sleep saying "It doesn't matter", but here he's recounting a time Sleep said "we were made for each other". Constant overthinking, a very common symptom of Narcissistic Victim Syndrome... our boy needs some serious help.
I'm obsessed with your videos, it really gets me thinking on the deeper meanings of the songs I don't really pay attention to. (I'm sorry Sussi, this was a song I always skipped before my rabbit hole digging 😅 But I truly do appreciate it! This is a song I'll introduce others to Sleep Token, but the song that reeled me in for good after being introduced with The Summoning was Alkaline.)
So, let's first talk about the symbolism of the jellyfish. The jellyfish is a symbol of acceptance and faith, resilience, adaptability, fluidity, vulnerability, trust and surrender, and inner peace. Makes sense after Hypnosis, doesn't it? He's vowing to completely submit himself to Sleep now.
    Lyric dissection time!:
    I have waited
    Paralyzed by my own will
    Viciously reminding me still
    I'm born to believe
    And I am certain, no
That you and I are crashing course
    Driven by a holy force
I know you can see - (Vessel has been patient for Sleep to take him back again, unable to escape this toxic everlasting cycle of necessity for her in order to feel alive. In his mind, he knows they are bound by cosmic influences beyond their power forever, they are divinely ordained to be together, whether they like it or not... and Vessel knows that Sleep knows this, too.)
    That you will be mine
Yeah, you will be mine - (This is his promise. Whether you like it or not, you WILL be mine. It's beyond our control, and I'll ensure we will end up together again)
We balance fire in the earth we walk
Will never stop me reaching forth
    To see you again
With colors over all the wasted years
    Eternity will bring you near
    I know you can see
I know you can see - (I take this as a comparison to Adam and Eve, the beginnings of humanity itself; the first creation on Earth to harness the power of fire. Fire is also seen as passion in comparison to the stability of earth, and his passion and desire for her will never stop his pursuits to see Sleep again. With its vibrancy - the colors - distinct in comparison to the dullness of our struggle together; Vessel is highlighting the good over the bad, only wanting to remember the virtues of their relationship in order to convince himself that he needs to go back to Sleep in order to feel whole again)
    That you will be mine
Yeah, you will be mine - (Reaffirmation!)
    You will be mine
(But don't) You will bе mine
(give me time) You will be mine
(Oh, you) You will be mine
(will be mine) You will be mine - (This is really interesting! If you listen closely between his chanting, he says "but don't give me time, oh you will be mine"... Vessel tells Sleep that no matter what, they're gonna wound up together in the end. So why are you resisting? Why are you wasting our time? I don't need time, I need YOU)
Did you not say we were made for each other? x2 - (There it is... YOU were the one who told me this, so I KNOW you know we are entwined by destiny from the start!)
    I have waited
    Paralyzed by my own will
    Viciously reminding me still
    I'm born to believe
    And I am certain
You and I are crashing course
    Driven by a holy force
And oh, you can see - (Another recapitulation, another imploration. Vessel is helplessly infatuated by Sleep. He needs her to be alive, and he's convinced Sleep needs him, too.)
(Did you not say) You will be mine
(we were made) You will be mine
(for each other?) You will be mine
(Did you not say) You will be mine
(we were made) You will be mine
(for each other?) - (Ok, I absolutely love how the two lines divide each other here. On top of his repetitive declarations, he's also reminding Sleep WHY he knows that, in the end, they will be together)
Great song! Is it my fave? ....no. But it's solid lore-wise; I guess it's just a little too pop-y for my tastes, but that's not to say I don't enjoy it when the mood strikes! It'll be a high 20s for me, probably 27.

This track definitely has a lot going for it in terms of palatability for a wider audience.
I'm so glad you have found the videos as engaging as you had, its great knowing when someone see's what you were trying to do and gets it!

I just heard this song for the first time and I must say I really liked it. It's got a very pop/alternative feel. I'm sure I've mentioned before but I grew up on pop (I gravitate more towards metal) so listening to this song I can definitely appreciate it and the mixing is really good on a musical level.
To me this song is maybe about how Vessel is in denial. Knowing that the relationship is over but him still chosing to deni and still believe that they will end up together, due to the words she said. As for the lyrics "With colours over all the wasted years" Colours could be a metaphor for the little sprinkles, the good times they had throughout the wasted years. Wasted years being that, it was all for nothing as inevitability the relationship ended, playing into that denial theory of mine.... if that makes any sense. As for ranking, It'll be 16... I had to shift levitate down to 21 as it was previously 16. I really enjoyed the song especially on it's first listen, I think it'll only go up after a few more listens

Love Sussan's excitement for this one, gushing with all the words, while Dave is just juggling apples. Hahaha.
Personally, i don't really get excited for this song, but when it plays, i quite like the synths at the start that kinda sound like Japanese instruments, so bouncy.
Sussan, try Hater by Korn, its a good song to dance to..but again i digress.
Going back to Mine..i like the "eternity will bring you near" line. It sounds like Vess is telling her it's just a matter of time, you will be mine. I can wait forever. He's very stubborn delulu in this song, but without the background of their toxic relationship, this could sound like a really sweet song.
It makes me sad hearing "did you not say we were made for each other?" Coz in Levitate, we know she forgets her words again (unless this is a different entity).
So my take on the story, is Vess with the unaliving attempt at Atlantic, got hypnotized while he was trying to recover (maybe coz he spent so much time sleeping, he got addicted to Sleep again), and now in Mine, he's reinvigorated and determined to make their relationship work again. Oh the neverending cycle.
In my rankings, it's currently at #18 below hypnosis #17, bumping tndnbtg down to #21, and moving up take aim to #19. 🖤

I read some other people's thoughts on toxic relationships and the cyclical nature is definitely a key factor.

Oh my god. That's such a great connection. "Did you not say we were made for each other" and her forgotting her words again. So at night when they're together she says they're soul mates and then during the day she's like "sorry, who dis?".
Also stubborn delulu is perfection. I laughed and snorted my coffee when I read it.

@@angryroads Dave, yeah, that's what i heard too. I think it's just a comfort blanket for them. For outsiders, it seems obvious that the solution is to leave the relationship. But when i think about my own relationship, I don't think i can bear to replace my husband who i've grown to be so comfortable around. If nothing else, i'm guessing that's how victims of toxic relationships must feel.
Sussan, and even if she remembers them, her words don't even matter (blood sport for top 5!), and talk is cheap (descending). Lol 😂

I know it's a bit of a weak link, but do you think that Mine and Rain are linked in any way? Both start off saying that Vessel has waited, in Mine paralysed, and in Rain as a stoic statue.
Another very enjoyable analysis. Stay safe 🤘 ✌️

The connections between songs and albums are strong, so it's definitely very possible! Thanks for watching, we always love seeing your comments and thoughts :)
