My friend's space marine captain was killed by a gretchin. A GRETCHIN! He was allied with some Orks against Space Marines but because my friend is an idiot, he decided to try and kill the Orks. So his Stormraven kills the Boyz. His tacticals try to stuff but fail. He charges the gretchin squad with his Captain and kills all but one. And this gretchin survives three rounds of CC and killed the Captain.
Red Beast I once killed a gretchin with a necron monolith particle whip :P In the grim darkness of the far future there is no such thing as overkill...

There was this one time one of my Imperial Fists sergeants rolled a max with power fist on the enemy's Mortarion but the Mortarion rolled a 1, allowing my sergeant to escape.
I looove that in the beginning he's firing the bolt pistol pretty normally but the moment he turns on the gretchin he puts that trigger finger to work XD
@terminegger Have you never heard of Gue'Vesa? It's Tau for Human Helpers. There's rules for them in an official rule expansion back in third edition. The story is that there were many Imperial Guard troops left behind after the rapid withdrawal from the Damocles Crusade, and their options were to become PoWs, or to swear allegiance to the Empire. The Tau already trade with humans, and there are human planets that are considered part of the Tau Empire, just as much as the Kroot or Vespids.
@SuperFreeCake sure, BS means balistic skill, it shows how good the person is with shooting a gun. S refers to strength, T to toughness (I think these 2 are self explanatory) and the armor save, referd to as Sv, shows the protection of the armour the character in wearing.
@SvenTviking Well few solutions: 1) Get new dice. Sharper or softer edges, even air bubbles inside manufacturing can all cause % of numbers up to change. 2) Play differently. Ie get an army that rolls more dice (nids, orks, etc). The more dice you roll the more averaged out your rolls will be. Chance is chance, but you can play statistics to manipulate chance greatly. Now then as for Whit Dwarf, sure it happens alot. Bound to pop up with so many people playing.

In a 3 way game my wounded my wargeard up Chapter-master ripped apart a hive tyrant was taken down by lone grechin's shot. Ever since he has removed the chapters insignia from his armor out of feeing unworthy of it and flys into a bizerk rage at the sight of minuscule hand guns.
@LittleSM95 haywire grenades work like this: roll to hit as normal for penetration like this. 1 nothing 2 - 5 glance 6 penetrate not effected by armour and is one of the only this not ignored by the monolith.
I played 3 500 point games against a friend at school, my space marines vs his night lords. So every time my plasma pistol, power fist captain ended up against his Obsidious Mallax HQ. For three games straight, I missed him with the plasma pistol or did not damage for two turns until close combat. Then failed to ever land a blow with the power first for multiple turns each game until he inevitably killed my captain. So afterwards I wanted to see how quickly they would hold up in 1v1 without distractions from other units. Only then did I obliterate his HQ is one hit from the power fist. Still can’t get over it.

The bolt contains an armour piercing tip, an explosive, and a mass reactive detonator. It is shot from the barrel under low velocity, its own propellant igniting once the missile is clear of the barrel." The weapon itself isn't loud, it's the shells exploding that make all the noise. @Milkymalk Key word "almost".

Secondly, wouldn't it have recoil due to the fact that it's being shot out of a device that doesn't allow the gas to be vented out the back?

Size modifiers. A smaller creature is harder to hit than a larger one, which means a bonus to AC. That helps explain why the Ork Nob went down in one good hit and the gretchin couldn't get hit on those 1's.
Teleport the monolith, get pariahs,teleport the flayed ones from the camp monoliths, get the invisibility for necron lord and some strong slow troops bring 5 wraiths.
I was once on the opposite side of this. My six Gue'Vesa (Tau aligned Imperial Guard) armed with four lasguns and two pulse carbines, actually managed to outgun eight chaos space marines. The dice are a fickle and unpredictable god. With so many dice rolls, everything works out fairly even in the end, but it still won't stop you from remembering the piles of ones you rolled halfway through the game.
I was mostly referring to when shooting with weapons here. And besides, psychic rolls like that only determine if you can use those abilities. If it is a shooting power, you still have to roll to see if it hits (unless the rules for that specific power specifies that it automatically hits).

It both makes sense, and is fair. You can find the archived rules from third edition simply by googling Gue'Vesa. Whenever I play a game with someone, I ask them if they mind if I use models from a third edition rulebook, and show them the model profile. By your definition, using Witch Hunters isn't fair either

I was told about an epic fail like that. Khorne Berzerkers assaulted a full squad of Ork Boyz. They had 80 attacks on that charge against the Orks that had a save of 6+. A total of 4 or 5 Orks died that round. Wish I had been there and seen the look on the faces of the players.
@BlackSabbath628 the grot didn't kill the marine though. He just missed. My point was a canoness is (was) was one of the the hardest units to damage in the game due to the save and having... I think its 5 str6 AP1 with 2d6 armor pen last strike hits on the charge with an evicerator chainsword. In other words, rolling that badly against Witch Hunters is a death sentence.

problem is nobody is playing with vehicles (if they don't have++ or heavy cover save) D weapon , grass and rending are killing them very fast

i've had the same situation many times, for example 5 nobz vs. 5 terminators and only one terminator survives and only makes one wound to the nobz.
