This brings so many tears to my eyes. Please make this full production watchable. It's been nearly 20 years, and we should all be able to experience this now. I'm sure I speak for many when I say I'd have no problem paying $25-30 for it.
I think I watched him live in the late 80s or early 90s. And I remember that I fell seriously in LOVE with rum tum tugger (I was young, lol). My absolute favorite.
I didn't even know this existed?! 14 minutes of blurry cats cus I'm just sat here crying and grinning like an idiot, if there is a cat god, please let there be a full show version
Now *this* recording should be released in its completeness on DVD/Bluray for the show's anniversary! It's a record of a uniquely staged and designed production that was never bettered - not on Broadway, not on video.
So nice to see footage from this historical show. What a treasure. And so great to see Bonnie Langford, the original Rumpleteazer, dancing with Tugger. Sarah Jane Honeywell is amazing as Etcetera, too. ❤️ The only shame is it's 15 minutes only.
I was there crying so hard that everything was blur by my tears.... please please please release the entire show!!!! This night matters so many fans who loved this production
The tour was postponed but I am so excited to be able to see it in 2022. I'm a 1998 baby and thus, grew up with the recording that was recorded the same year. In 2020, I had tickets to go and see it with my father, sister and best friend, in Montréal. We will be waiting for 2022 with much enthusiasm!
Enjoy! I saw the North American tour three times in 2019-2020. It is an absolutely incredible production. I'm also a 1998 baby who grew up on that video; watched it so many times that I wore out the VHS!
I saw this production July 1983. My first trip to London. Bought my ticket at a broker. When I got to my seat I was not happy to see the back of the set. Then the overture started and the set moved. I started crying right then and I don't think I stopped until we exited the theater.
Its certainly interesting to see how the productions have varied over the years. Such as Growl tiger number being dropped and included in certain tours
this is such a pure version of cats i seriously love it so much… this is why it was successful because it’s magical. all the new choreo changes messed up the cat illusions for me… the only good new additions where the new props (like jennydots on the giant broom)
I was there for that performance. Forever honoured to have been there. It was amazing. I really wish they would release the whole thing instead of this short clip. 👌
This is so cool! I had never seen the original stage in London and wasn't sure what they meant when the show was originally done in a round theater but now I can see. Cool.
I never knew what "in the round" meant either, so seeing this is really cool! I personally prefer this to a regular stage! It allows more audience participation and interaction in my opinion.
THIS is the best thing this channel has posted in its existence!! Thank yo so much! there is so little footage of the original production! id give so much to see the full thing.
For the love of all things good and feline please release the full recording! The description suggest such exist's and I know many of us here would pay big money for a legal release!
Cats as how it's meant to be! Some shows can work as regular movies, but honestly the second you take the junkyard off a stage and onto a set you've kind of doomed yourself from the start. I can't wait for the tour to come back so I can go be home again
Why does this treasure not exist on dvd or bluray? Cats has only ONE recorded show, the 1998 vhs/dvd. other shows like Les Miserables or Phantom have different live versions, why not Cats? And now especially for the 40th anniversary. Please Lloyd Webber, RELEASE this treasure, its the original production. I, and def. many fans around the world, would pay for it!! PLEASE!!!
100% needs to be released! I know fans would have absolutely no problem paying for it! First saw the show in 1986 & top price tickets were £19.50! How times have changed.
Add a zero onto that price now pp for top price. Thank goddess the prices were so cheap or else I would never have experienced the magic of shoes like carts!
Cats is a show that marked the beginning of a new era in musical theatre. Before Cats there had never been a show so spectacular and magical. This is why Cats is one of the most important shows of musical theatre.
15 minute highlights, meant more to me than the 1998 version in its entirety. Please. Please post THIS production. Oh and as much as love Tim Minchin and John Legend in their own different versions of JCS.....please post the whole Glen Carter Jerome Pradon version from 2000. Think it’s on Netflix. But I’m greedy x
@@Blunts_and_cunts That's about 80% of the show, and it's a lot better than nothing, but it is not as good as the actual show. This video exists but will never be released to the public thanks to paperwork. It is superior to the 1998 video in every way except that the 1998 video has the LSO.
Aaaah so wonderful to see this! I remember this time so well.... I'd only just gotten into CATS the previous year, went to see it in London for the last time in the January of 2001, didn't see this performance but had online friends talking about it... amazing to see this now. Happy 40th ❤️
WOW, thank for the upload!! AMAZING! I was wondering if there is any more footage from the original London cast back in 1981, I would be really curious to see what it looked like. I know there are a couple of scenes from a documentary that are on RUclips, but maybe there some more archival footage that can be uploaded? Many thanks in advance!!
Finally we get to see some archive filmed footage from the closing night performance of the original West End production of Cats at the New London Theatre in May 2002 Now how about releasing the archived filmed performance of Half a Sixpence from Cameron Mackintosh with Charlie Stemp that was done at the Noel Coward Theatre in London on Thursday 24th August and Saturday 2nd September 2017
This is amazing I remember I was at school in 1981 when it first came out and I bought the vinyl which was a double LP. I've loved the music ever since and I love the 1999 version I'm not so keen on the recent version at the cinema but this version here needs to be released in its entirety because it has growltigers last stand on it and that's one of my favourite bits !
Hamburg, more than 20 years ago, LIVE! It was absolutely amazing, a whole pack of handkerchiefs wasted. And one evening later, also in Hamburg, "The Phantom of the Opera".
FROM MAY 11, 1981 - MAY 11 2002 ON THE WEST END, I REMEMBER HEARING ABOUT THE CLOSING, IT WAS STILL PLAYING AT THE PARAMOUNT IN SEATTLE WA, USA UP UNTIL MAY OF 2003, I SAW IT AS LITTLE JOE THE MOONLIGHT CAT ON MY 16TH JELLICLE BIRTHDAY MAY 8, 2003, IT WAS A THURSDAY. THE HUMAN BEHIND THE JELLICLE WAS 26 GOING ONTO 27!
You have to question the mindset of whoever decided about the movie version of this show... when even a show is done in such "spartan" environment as this one... do a BBETTER impression of the Cats than a freaking multi-million dollar cinema movie...
I wish they posted the whole 'Gus The Theatre Cat' clip from this concert. I would happily enjoy the clips from this show, in my opinion they're even better than the 1998 version.
You can tell John Partridge really had that closing night energy.
He was in the 1998 video film as well
And is he the rum tum tugger from this show?!?! 😍😭🤤🥰
@@PaolaGonzalez-gk8nc Yeah
I was thinking it was him but wasn't 100% sure, so thanks for confirming!
@@williamfairchild7439 OMG I love that maaaaaaan!!!!! 😍🤩🥰🤤❤ I think he is the best Tugger EVER ! for me 🥰

not gonna lie, I'd pay even more for this legendary show
Even if I had to give up a full amount of my monthly salary to see this I would, without hesitation
Would pay way more than $25-30 to see the whole thing of that performance if that would make them release it.
You can rent it on yt or buy it on DVD, and it wouldn’t cost $30
@@BongoBon360 Thats the 1998 movie version you are thinking about. We want the West End 2002 finale performance, where this highlight is from.
As always John partridge as rum tum tugger STOLE THE WHOLE FREAKEN SHOW..

Nice to get a glimpse of Growltiger’s Last Stand as you certainly never see that anymore.
cats revolutionized the way we see people move onstage. this is a perfect way to close it.
The shot this professionally and we’re just NOW finding out about it!? (Okay, they probably did it on purpose for the 40th anniversary, but still).
They screened this live at Covent Garden on 11 May 2002 so it was known to many fans this existed. I'm so happy they finally share these clips.
@@chrissi2810 I’d love for them to put up the whole thing.
I'm dying to see the whole thing!
Please don't makes me wait another 10 years to watch this production...please..
THIS is what we want to see!!! Please release the full show, we have been waiting for 20 years! 🙏🏻 All those legends in this perfect London show
I agree.
I'm disappointed there was never a dvd realese
I love the double person cartwheel munggojerrie and rumpleteazer made 2:54. Goes to show they really work together.

Happy 40th anniversary, CATS!! I would give anything to see the show live again!
I remember being there watching this in Covent Garden and crying my eyes out at the end. I hope they will release it fully someday
The seating in this theatre looks chaotic but also amazing
The seating has always been like that help-
It was the puuurfect venue! Saw it on Broadway as well, and the experience was not nearly as special.

Hope that they will publish this version! Such precious footages!
How incredible! Please make this production available to watch in full! People would pay good money for it

21 years. There is a possibility that one of the performers in the final performance was born AFTER the first performance.
Just so you know... not even people who were performing that night have a copy, for most it’s the first time they have seen this video
