One thing I find really sweet about this relationship is that if you really pay close attention to the Rum Tum Tugger number or Rum Tum Tugger in general, you see that he's NEVER the first one to reach out. In his number, he makes sure he has the queens attention first before maybe indulging them for a few seconds then returning back to his song. Even with Old Deuteronomy, he waits until the Jellicle leader acknowledges him first before bowing in respect. Literally the only cat he ever reaches out to in this entire musical is Mr.Mistoffelees (who is one of the very few cats in Tugger's age range that DOESN'T fawn over him) and that's it. Romantic ship or not, they have a really nice relationship, and I'm living for it :D
its also interesting because in his own number, Rum Tum Tugger clearly says he dislikes being given things and only wants what he claims himself. So he could view the ones fawning over him in the same way, but Mr. Mistoffelees says that he's a bore and doesn't seem interested in him. Which goes back to Rum Tum Tugger only going after what he can't have or what's not given outright
Mistoffelees in the movie: Oh mah gosh, stahp it, I'm so embarrassed Mistoffelees in this: I am absolutely fabulous **starts blowing stuff up left and right**
This is my cat, she does this every single time I walk anywhere near that stairs. Her personality is a cross between Mistoffelees and Midna (Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess) as well, so that probably makes sense.
Here's the thing... This number being performed by Tugger, SPECIFICALLY Tugger, is SO significant. We've seen that Tugger is a well-liked figure - other cats flock to him and imitate him. We've seen that Tugger is a respected figure - he rubs elbows with Munkustrap and Old D. We've seen that Tugger is not easily impressed - his entire song is about him refusing to compromise, not being interested in what others want, not to mention when Grizabella shows up he outright leaves. And most importantly, he never prominently sings for ANYONE else. He sings when everyone else does, sure, but he never takes a prominent part in any other principal cat's songs. So for this relatively young, somewhat shy (as per the lyrics) figure to be getting an endorsement, and a strong one, from a cat like Tugger explains why Misto instantly has everyone's trust - including us the audience. And Misto benefits from this, too - we see him as a chorus cat before this (well, admittedly, we see Quaxo, but they're clearly one and the same), being a somewhat more timid and awkward figure (at the start of Gumbie Cat, he thinks the song will be about him and gets ready to sing, only to awkwardly be rejected). And yet he performs this flawlessly and confidently, most likely because he knows he has Tugger's support. What I'm saying is, having Misto himself sing this is a fucking crime and throws a wrench into this whole scene, ESPECIALLY since he's so goddamn awkward about it in the 2019 version.
The movie really did a good job for not let Mistoffelees spends 5 minutes showing off! The movie version of the song was basically going up to a birthday magician and saying "Hey kid, we need you to out-magic this demonic archmage, or the world as we know it will come to an end. We've only got like 5 minutes, can you do it?" Laurie Davidson's Mistoffelees is a magician-in-training who is very meek and insecure about his magical abilities and lacks confidence in his skills, but it isn't until this song that he finally gains his confidence and rescues Old Deut. According to what happened behind the scenes: Laurie had to prepare choreography for his Mistoffelees audition, but because he is not a trained dancer, his audition dance was "awful" and "brazen". However, this is what caught Tom Hooper's attention and influenced what the movie character would become. In the musical, Jacob Brent's Mistoffelees' full confidence but didn't trying to save Old D's bloody life in the first place because it's a musical stage show, he just showing how great his magic was, and it's a waste of time! If I was there, I will yelling "Just bring Old D back already!". Also you people just wanna ship him with Tugger because you're supposed homosexual. Which serves the empty glamour and spectacle.
@@ChristHoon Dude what-- You can't tell me I "just ship him with Tugger for the spectacle" when I literally JUST explained why his and Tugger's relationship is so significant. Like this is part of the shows subtext and, unlike the movie, the show can bring us subtle character clues and dynamics through natural interactions instead of beating us over the head with "MISTO SHY" by starting and stopping the song 15 times and having him awkwardly stutter through most of it. If I was in the movie scene, I'd be like "someone get this incompetent kid out of here". Say you're homophobic and go, king, I didn't even mention having them as a ship.
@@franziskasanders3943 Actually, Macavity wanna be the Jellicle choice so that he can go to the Heaviside layer and be reborn. Btw, this is why I prefer the movie version better than the musical version.
@@Jay-ih9jp Look, I'm understand that not everyone likes the movie version, but you did it just hate. You just can't reconcile that the movie version had a better storytelling than the musical version.
It’s so obvious throughout the musical that Misto is NOT a super quiet, totally shy cat. He’s just sneaky and mysterious he can be quiet to make his illusions but he LOVES the spotlight. How could the 2019 movie fuck this upppp
@@littleshyghost674 I think he’s a little shy too but not completely, like the movie portrayed. If you consider him and quaxo the same cat (which I do) you can see him trying to shine during other songs in the musical (like in the beginning of the gumbie cat - I love that scene)
@@littleshyghost674 Same- I'm someone who can be really shy but also loves to perform and I headcanon him as being something like me in that. Rather shy and quiet in most regular interactions but at the same time having a craving for the spotlight, and able to really thrive and show off as the center of attention under the right circumstances
Does anyone else think it's super cute that Rum Tum's whole "thing" is acting like he doesn't get emotionally attached to anyone, but then he does this whole ass song of, "Mr Mistoffelees is the best magician! He's the cleverest cat ever! Everyone look at all this incredible magic he's doing! He's just phenomenal!" Meanwhile in Rum Tum's song Mistoffelees is like "he's a bore lol"
From this number alone, you immediately get that feel that Tugger is that one jock in highschool who actually defended the nerds in class. Like "Yeah. I'm so suave and cool. And I'm so confident in my own suaveness that I'm gonna give the light to the geeks because they deserve it. Because I'm just that cool of a guy."
@@temin2776 Not much to say pal. I've only seen a handful of the songs in this play. I'm mostly good with character interactions. For instance, throughout this song, Tugger is constantly talking up Mistofellees without a doubt in his mind what he can do. Throughout the lyrics, Tugger goes on and on about his abilities and past tricks, trying to prove to the audience he knows what he's talking about and has proof to back it up. And the way he treats Mistofellees highlights that. He's constantly pointing at him, smiling when he sees him, looks excited when he's about to perform. However you get the feeling Tugger does not want to assist because in a way, he somewhat respectfully fears him. At the point where he's picking out an assistant, Tugger points to himself in shock but then lets out a breath of air when Mistofellees picks someone else. You get the sense that Tugger, while liking that guy, isn't willing to take a risk with this...cats...powerful abilities. Much like anyone at a circus not wanting to be picked.
Actually I don't think that Tugger afraid. He's just knew that Mistoffelees need in specific assistant. Like Cassandra. Can I talk with you about Bustofer Jones?
@@temin2776 1) I didn't mean THAT kind of afraid. I explained that. I meant the kind of nervousness you get when you're chosen to partake in a magic trick. I feel Tugger has that with Mistoffelees but he's so chill and suave it comes of different. My reference for such a claim is when Mistoffelees is choosing an assistant, Tugger points to himself with a bright look on his face, and then takes a breath while waving his hand towards his body. 2) Out of all the characters, why Bustopher? 3) Bustopher Jones is a elitist. Like...to the letter. By definition. The others praise him over and over for being smart, showing he has their respect. When he has a moment to talk, the first thing he does is praise himself as he talks about his exploits. Very much unlike how Tugger talked up about Mistoffelees, Bustopher only talks about himself. He's flashy, he has a nice suit, he can't stop looking at his reflection to make sure his damn mustache is on point. He clearly cares about his looks. But he's also in denial, which shows his elitism. Again. He dresses nice, he makes sure he's sharp, he demeans others and only talks about himself and what he's done. But there are two noteworthy moments that show the greatest aspects to his character. 1) He claims he's "In [his] prime". He's a fatass. He's clearly not in his prime and he is very overweight and slow. 2) He refuses to dust off his own chair. This is peek elitism in character actions. The fact that he thinks so highly of himself that dusting off him own chair is too beneath him to the point he signals someone else to do it, just screams "I'M ABOVE YOU"
My 3 year old son has taken to dramatically turning around and stage whispering "presto!" At random points in the day. I don't think I could be any more proud.
when I was a kid I had the vhs tape and played that thing til it broke. I predict a lot of pretending to be cats with other kids, followed by a Warrior Cats phase
Mr. Mistoffelees in the movie: *takes 5000 tries to bring back old Deuteronomh* Mr. Mistoffelees in the musical: *casually shooting lightning from his hands/paws*
I need to point out a background detail I really love... Munkustrap just got his shit kicked in by Macavity, their leader (and quite possibly his dad) is gone, and it's the first time in the show he has no idea what to do. But when Tugger steps up and says he has a solution, Munk has complete faith in him and Misto. He's smiling and bopping along in the background the entire time, and when Misto does manage to bring Old Deuteronomy back, you can see him nodding at Demeter like "I knew he could do it." It's just such a sweet touch--it takes a real leader to cede the floor to someone else you trust.
I think the story is that Rum and Munk are brothers and Deut is their father. Demeter was dating Micavity until they broke up then she started seeing either Munk or Alonzo depending on how they ran the show.
There's so much character work done without dialogue in Cats. Just with movements, expressions, or _how_ things are sung. Like they are at their lowest low rn, and what happens? The too-cool-for-school cat, who seems to be on the same level as Munkustrap, just under Old Deuteronomy, decides to cheer up the kittens with a story. And it's just him talking about this awesome cat, but then the older cats back him up with vocals. Then as all the cats get on board with it, Mr. M makes his entrance as all the lights go on and all the cats join in singing, all imagining the same magical mystical cat. And then when it WORKS at the end, there's reverence and love. Rum Tum Tugger loves Old D and the Jellicles, and still rightfully gives all the credit away from himself and to Mr. Mistoffelees. idk. I just feel like there's a lot of nice character stuff if you look for it.
Yes! Even the way Rum imitates some of Misto's moves, is different from the way he reacts to other folks. Also the line "Please, listen to me... and don't scoff" paired with the way the older cats reacted to his song earlier implied (to me!) That maybe Rum isn't as respected? Though they quickly realize he's right!
also Munkustrap and RTT are brothers! that's why they interact the way they do - watching their scenes together with that in mind you can totally see Munkustrap dealing with RTT has all the "Plz ignore my annoying little brother bugging me during my Very Important Job" vibes, and it makes sense that here he's kind of taking up what his brother does and narrates a story for a bit.
@@PrincessPonies81 I didn't know they were brothers. I just got the feeling they were LIKE brothers, you know? In that they hold a similar status in their hierarchy and are allies and friends. Brothers works too!

Yes! And what I love even more is that it's funny, but also telling: You can see that Mr. Mistoffelees hesitates a few times during the number. Though subtle, it happens about three times, and each time, he's immediately encouraged by RTT. RTT is disappointed that he isn't chosen, but immediately following that, Mr. Mistoffelees looks to him multiple times as he's doing the trick, showing he purposely didn't pick him because he's looking to RTT for support.
@@waffleauflauf4213 I read that Mistoffelees was the youngest brother of Rum Tum Tugger and Munkustrap. He also tends to move to the background quickly in a great many scenes. In moments where he is not in the very back, he is off to the side in the middle. This makes this song HIS big moment, and it is his elder brother who is bragging about his ability to bring back their father. Personally, I think RTT is speaking from personal experience during this song. Can you imagine a quietly conniving youngest sibling driving both his straight laced eldest and wild middle siblings crazy with his illusions and tricks? And who better than an obnoxious younger siblings to burn you when you are in the middle of talking about yourself? Or to kick a ball at their head knowing they dare not complain about the mistreatment? And yet, RTT knows all of Mistoffelees secrets, including the embarrassing moment with the cat and the kittens. (Notice the "please don't tell" body language as he quits dancing and hurries over to keep the lid on it, and fails?) But when Deuteronomy is returned he greets the son most likely responsible for his rescue, but RTT quietly points him in the proper way while singing the explanation to their father, and Mistoffelees is about ready to quietly leave satisfied with the job, but he turns one last time to look when he realizes what is happening, and then runs into the arms of his father and brother, soon to be mobbed in a group hug.
Around 4:29 when Mistofeeles picks Cassandra to be his assistant, if you look closely at Tugger you can see him point to himself and go « not me ? oof ». I love little details like that, it makes every rewatch so fun
@@pupeescobar698 It IS canon. Monk, Tugger, and Misto all have the same Dad - Deut. According to both Andrew Webber, and Jacob Brent. Please don't get all icky incesty.
This is one of my favorite tracks from this version, John Partridge nailed the embodiment of the 90's rock star as the Rum Tum Tugger and it brings such a great emotion to this song.
My favorite part about this song is how he’s obviously a younger cat (younger adult, like a 20 year old) that’s trying to prove his place among the Jellicle Cats, but even so, everyone is already so impressed by him. They love him and are so proud of him because he is clearly one that is the “golden child” with a lot of potential. The Cats: Look at our magical SON 🤩 Tugger: Look at my BOYFRIEND🤩🤩🤩
Literally he is this beautifully technical ballet dancer and in the movie they just,,,forgot he is a ,,,ballet dancer?? ALSO,,can we just mention how well-thought out and intuitive this musical is, why did we try to make something good out of something already GREAT??
I never paid any attention to Cats despite the theatre ads and the random VHS we briefly watched at my friend’s house and only came back to this because I watched the movie and was confused as to boring and off paced it was. The movie is the worst adaption the director had done. At least his other works add something to the original musical. In this one, rather than adding it’s apt to call it butchering.
The decision to make Misto some quiet shy boi when there has never been a tuxedo cat on this planet that hasn't taken itself entirely too seriously will never cease to baffle me.
Random thing to keep in mind: they only made Misto a tuxedo cat because if he was LITERALLY "black from his ears to the tip of his tail" like his song SAYS, he'd vanish into the stage background and be impossible to see even when the lights are on him. His personality would probably suit a proper black cat just fine.
It literally was though! They went around to all of the world casts and picked the very best of each character. A few of them are even voice dubbed because some of the best dancers/actors don’t speak English(for example Jemima is Belgian and is dubbed due to her accent). So they were able to get the best everything’s for this production. The only exception was John Mills but when you don’t have to have Gus doubled as a dance role, why not get someone with Gus’ experiences?
@@ianhimmelstein5915 I had to look it up but “Portrayed by Veerle Casteleyn, whose voice was dubbed over by Helen Massey due to the producers fearing that she had a noticeable accent.”
4:55 - okay I have to admit: it’s too cute... Mistos little smile and Tuggers nod - Misto is looking for Tuggers acknowledgment/confirmation, and Tugger is like: ‚I know you can do it!‘
Imagine Tom Hooper seeing Misto dancing around with a rainbow and glitter while Tugger sings about how great he is, encouraging him and mimicking Mistos dance moves and going “let’s take all of this away and make it as heterosexual as humanly possible😀”
I wonder if Tom Hooper even bothered to watch THIS version before making his Cats to understand the essence of this story. Because if so, he didn't capture either one of these characters. lol I mean, I saw his Cats first and I liked Mr. Mistoffelees. He was just a goofball. Its like Tom Hooper is scared of sexy. cats. lol I got SOME chemistry in the new one.....but it was between Victoria and either Munkustrap or Misto. Not anyone else.

Something so sweet about Rum Tum Tugger's behaviour when Old Deuteronomy comes back, the way he sings much softer and is clearly so happy to see the tribe leader (or in some interpretations, his father) again
The makeup in this show is just gorgeous. Who ever came up with the idea that in the movie version that the bodies should be animated was just weird. If you’re gonna go for animation, make the whole thing animated and don’t do a cross over cause sometimes it just doesn’t work. If I were gonna to do a movie based on the musical CATS, I would of done it like DreamWorks Puss in Boots or something like that🤷♀️
Ok but that's explicitly what TSE did not want. He didn't want the cats to be pussycats. He rejected Disney's offer for that very reason. Also, the ballet looks a lot better when you can see it's Actual Humans performing than if the same stunts had been done by an animated character. There's a lot that the movie fucked up, but I don't think making it entirely animated would have fixed that.
@@Treegona making it animated wouldve fixed some issues from the Movie tho. but it being a musical should truly just be the norm. i got a new appreciation for musicals after watching cats the 1998 version, it's just insane what each actor has to bring to the stage. also on the subject of animation, i can understand why TSE rejected the idea back when disney kinda started with animates movies; they were really childish and not really freely artistic like you have in animated (short) films of today - like i can imagine Cats being awesome when animated in a similar style to the dream sequences from Princess in the Frog: less pussycats and more jazzy fun Art
Yeah.. with enought patiance and a couple of people with tracksuits to dance you can this entire musical entirely animated and it doesn't look like something that crawled out of the 9th circle of hell, just sayin
especially since they DIDN'T EVEN PERFECT the animation on the cats until AFTER the film was released. They had to go back and correct it and then re-release a corrected version. From what I've seen, they didn't want the actors to wear motion capture suits (like Andy Serkis did when he played Gollum and Caesar and which made THOSE characters so life-like and blended into the scene better) so they literally had to go in and hand-draw the fur onto the cats. The actors didn't even know what their cat selves were going to look like till they saw the movie. That's why this version is so superior.
I just love the lyrics to those songs, specifically dissecting what kind of cat they're singing about, and it's hilarious. Mistoffelees is the kind of cat that seems distant to their owners, that seemingly disappears for long periods of times and is quite obviously seeing a mate unknown to the family until it's too late. Rum Tum Tugger is the kind of cat that changes his mind on the fly, leaving a room he just entered for no apparent reason. And of course those two get along just wonderfully.

I've been on RUclips comparing the musical numbers from the movie with the numbers from the show, and I have to agree that the movie did Mr. Mistoffoles dirty. This is clearly one of the highlights of the show, but in the movie he hardly even gets to dance.
When I saw the show live Mistoffoles was my favorite number. The whole theatre was lit up and there was just such a intense energy. Then in the movie he is like 👉👈 guys I think I can do this maybe.
If you're wondering why the 2019 film version of Mr. Mistoffelees (played by Laurie Davidson) doesn't sound as confident as his stage and 1998 film counterparts, it's because this version of Mr. Mistoffelees is a magician-in-training who is very meek and insecure about his magical abilities and lacks confidence in his skills, but it isn't until his girlfriend Vistoria's cheer up and this song that he finally gains his confidence and rescues Old Deut. According to what happened behind the scenes: Laurie had to prepare choreography for his Mistoffelees audition, but because he is not a trained dancer, his audition dance was "awful" and "brazen". However, this is what caught Tom Hooper's attention and influenced what the movie character would become.
@@QuikVidGuy Tom Hooper did that right! What I did was offended to protect a story like this because in many ways the movie version is misunderstood and underrated. There are lot of good things about the movie version, and you should understand and like that they still problem solved in a situation. And guess what? It's one if the reasons that changed the perspective of this musical, and what made me stand up for it when the movie version was brought up being ridiculed.
@Chris Hoon Can you explain to me why they made Christopher Jones so rude? Isn't his essence that he is an aristocratic cat, a true gentleman and a gourmet? He's funny, yes, but the bottom line is that it's funny how other cats react to him. They treat him with respect and even admiration. He definitely won't eat out of a trash can. In fact, he even looked to see if there was any dust on his seat. It's especially funny when Jennianydots falls over when he hands her a flower. Do you remember how Misto always followed him around like he was his idol? Why did they show him so rude in the 2019 movie?
In this version Rum Tum is singing his ass off. Misto is dancing his ass off. Go check out this song from the film. Criminal! Absolutely criminal the way Mr. Mistoffelees' was rebooted.,Not to mention the fact that he was now a fraidy cat?

And I'm so confident in my own suaveness that I'm gonna give the light to the geeks because they deserve it. Because I'm just that cool of a guy."
YES! Love that :)
Can you tell more? I really want know your opinion about other characters.
The fact that he thinks so highly of himself that dusting off him own chair is too beneath him to the point he signals someone else to do it, just screams "I'M ABOVE YOU"
I saw Cats in New York in 1996...Mistoffelees did like a solid 30 seconds of pirouettes and I just cried at the beauty of it.
The conjuring turn was sadly cut 😥
I saw it several times in Atlanta in the late 90's. Same feels!! Was amazed and just like wowed!

Mr. Mistoffelees in the movie: *takes 5000 tries to bring back old Deuteronomh*

A lot of being a good leader is knowing when to listen to good advice. No one leads alone.
Tbh my POV is that Munkustrap and Rum Tum Tugger would lead the pack together if Old Deuteronomy dies one day.
@@Gashahn24 in my mind Munk, Rum, and Macavity are brothers from Old D Macavity got the magic, Munk the leadership, and Rum got well you know.

Reminds me a bit of Tim Curry in 'The Rocky Horror Picture Show' :)
Though they quickly realize he's right!
you put it perfectly into words!
also Munkustrap and RTT are brothers! that's why they interact the way they do - watching their scenes together with that in mind you can totally see Munkustrap dealing with RTT has all the "Plz ignore my annoying little brother bugging me during my Very Important Job" vibes, and it makes sense that here he's kind of taking up what his brother does and narrates a story for a bit.

Yes! And what I love even more is that it's funny, but also telling:
You can see that Mr.
@@waffleauflauf4213
I read that Mistoffelees was the youngest brother of Rum Tum Tugger and Munkustrap.
(Notice the "please don't tell" body language as he quits dancing and hurries over to keep the lid on it, and fails?)
But when Deuteronomy is returned he greets the son most likely responsible for his rescue, but RTT quietly points him in the proper way while singing the explanation to their father, and Mistoffelees is about ready to quietly leave satisfied with the job, but he turns one last time to look when he realizes what is happening, and then runs into the arms of his father and brother, soon to be mobbed in a group hug.
Around 4:29 when Mistofeeles picks Cassandra to be his assistant, if you look closely at Tugger you can see him point to himself and go « not me ? oof ». I love little details like that, it makes every rewatch so fun

The decision to make Misto some quiet shy boi when there has never been a tuxedo cat on this planet that hasn't taken itself entirely too seriously will never cease to baffle me.
Too true, as I am owned by a Tuxedo and can affirm the truth of your statement!
Yeah, my tuxedo cat thought of himself as the king of the house
The point is he's not actually quiet and shy as Rum Tum sang it just seems it because he's so aloof and mysterious😋so not actually quiet and shy.
As a former tuxedo owner, you are just blatantly correct, I agree entirely
Best cast of CATS ever. It literally throws me back into my childhood

I wonder if Tom Hooper even bothered to watch THIS version before making his Cats to understand the essence of this story. The makeup in this show is just gorgeous. Who ever came up with the idea that in the movie version that the bodies should be animated was just weird. If you’re gonna go for animation, make the whole thing animated and don’t do a cross over cause sometimes it just doesn’t work. If I were gonna to do a movie based on the musical CATS, I would of done it like DreamWorks Puss in Boots or something like that🤷♀️
Exactly, I've even drawn my favorite cats in Puss in boots style, one can dream.
The little "watch this" glance at 4:54 is one of my favorite moments in the whole show
im pretty sure that's also the scene where they snuck old D under the red sheet instead of cassandra

@@grannywillow5252 It all comes down to one's interpretation at the end of the day. The beauty of the show having such a loose plot is that the actors can take complete creative liberty with their character and how they interact with everyone. If Jacob Brent thinks that they're brothers, then that's fine. If Ricky Ubeda thinks there's something romantic between them, then that's fine. It all depends on what you take away from whatever performance you've seen.
@@grannywillow5252 yikes, I see you everywhere. Just let people ship what they want. At the end, the actors just interpret their own character the way they want to, but that doesn't mean it's official. CATS is weird like that. The lyrics are about mundane stuff but then we're seeing how that stuff would sound to cats and how impressed they'd be. Or at least I think that's what Webber was going for, either that or he just succeeded in making a new character out of the music

@@ChristHoon ohhhh his DANCE audition
...okay so then, that's another bafflingly bad move by hooper
My partner just asked me "Can you turn that off so i can make a phone call?"
"But it's Mr Mistofelees' dude!?"
"Didums..."
"No - 'Mistofelees'..."
🤣💀🤣💀🤣
HAHAHAHAHA
Tell you’re partner we said you NEVER turn off Mr Mistofelees mid-song 😅😁
In this version Rum Tum is singing his ass off. Misto is dancing his ass off. Go check out this song from the film. Criminal! Absolutely criminal the way Mr. Mistoffelees' was rebooted.,Not to mention the fact that he was now a fraidy cat?
If you're wondering why the 2019 film version of Mr. Mistoffelees (played by Laurie Davidson) doesn't sound as confident as his stage and 1998 film counterparts, it's because this version of Mr. Mistoffelees is a magician-in-training who is very meek and insecure about his magical abilities and lacks confidence in his skills, but it isn't until this song that he finally gains his confidence and rescues Old Deut. According to what happened behind the scenes: Laurie had to prepare choreography for his Mistoffelees audition, but because he is not a trained dancer, his audition dance was "awful" and "brazen". However, this is what caught Tom Hooper's attention and influenced what the movie character would become.
3:41 Coricopat's like "oh shit, this cat is magic!" While Tantomile's looking like a proud mom
Uh...not to burst your bubble but Coricopat and Tantomile are twin siblings
@@kytrensol9777 She still can act as a proud mom. The instinct...
Its the moment at 5:33 where he face rubs that does it for me.......this version is so like real cats.....unlike the other ....erm....interpretations.
We do not speak the name
I saw this same young man dance Mr. Mistoffelees on Broadway. He was amazing!!!
His little PRESTO is everything
I DO love how in Tugger's song, all the young cats are fawning over him and in Bustopher Jones, its the older cats.....but in Misto's song, they are ALL in awe of him. lol
I love this relationship so much! Rum Tum Tugger lovebombs his cute little tuxedo boyfriend lovingly and Mr. Mistoffelees in turn lightly roasts his crush every chance he gets!
SO CUTE!!!
Who's with me in this!?
Furry

Love this! My kitten's name is Mr. Mistoffelees because of this song and this musical. Love the song, so catchy!
Aw cute
I had a cat named Mr. Mistoffelees too.
my cats are named Skimbleshanks and Grizabella. Next cat I want to name Mr. Mistoffelees!
@@AnimalLover101195 Aww thats really cute! Is that one of them on your profile pick?
i'm gonna name my kitty Misto because everyone thinks cats is weird but i want to name my cat something from the musical, and they don't know any characters so Misto is perfect
Mr. Mistoffelees is literally running around with a rainbow ribbon and glowing lights on his outfit and the director of the cats movie decided to make him super straight and a soft boi. Don't get me wrong soft bois are nice but in the musical mistoffelees was a sassy gay character and they made him a shy lil bish in the movie 👁️👄👁️
movie Mistoffees is a literal 😺 and you can’t change my mind
Yes Ha ha ha, they did make him a shy ass little bitch. Not how I saw it when I saw the play in the early 90's. And it didn't take him 3-4 tries to bring back Old Deuteronomy either as he was a great magician! And what's up with Old Deuteronomy being a woman??? And Victoria (the all white cat) what's up with her having tan markings????? Loved the play, not impressed with the movie at all. And what the hell happened to Rum Tum Tugger? He was so sexy in the play and in the movie, he was hardly even noticed. I could go on and on. Love Cats the Play!!!!
@@dustythe2nd188 I super agree- in the movie Rum Tum was just this creepy perv- ish cat in the background, not at all the sexy hip thrusting cat we all know and love
He was a UwU shy boy in the movie, I hate how they didn't have Tugger sing his song, it's iconic
@@trixie7759 I know they really fucked up the movie vs. the play.
It’s so funny, The actor playing Misto said it was never supposed to look as gay as it does, but in a tweet he said it might have had something to do with the twenty foot rainbow and glitter covered streamer they had him pull out of a hat and dance around the stage with 😂😂
And ever since then, actors who have played Tugger and Misto in future productions have made the characters interact as if they're dating lmao😂😂
@@ninarances9074 even though they are related.
@@johnschwalbwhen were they related?
@@amanoa6843 they were originally brothers, the younger Misto calls his older brother a boor, then Rum Tug Tugger sings a whole song talking up his little brother and building up his confidence unti he can save their dad, Old Deuteronomy. Old Deuteronomy thinks it was his oldest who saved him and turns to thank Tugger, but Tugger points to Misto who has is accepted by his dad in a huge hug.
But when they filmed this people thought they were gay instead of platonic brothers so they make them lovers in newer shows.
well they're cats, makes sense
I don't care what anyone says. This will forever be the best musical performance for me.The beauty of the costuming, the grace of the dancers, the amazing vocals - it's all so magical.
My parents and older sister had absolutely no idea why Tugger started singing this song until two years ago I pointed out the obvious:
“We need to find Old Deuteronomy”
“You ought to ask [this guy, he can help]”
I mean it’s OBVIOUS! I don’t understand how they missed it for almost 20 years of watching this movie
"and you'd think there was nobody shyer"
mistoffolees: comes down from the ceiling on a rope with a sparkly light-up jacket, dancing and shooting lighting over the place
The key word here is You THINK he’s shy, but boy, are you in for a surprise!
