When I was a young man and massively into my motorbikes I had no interest whatsoever for cars, then one day in 1985 I parked next to a 911 turbo and my eyes were opened. I discovered Porsche and fell in love with all their cars. Great story John. I bought my first Porsche about a year ago after a lifetime of waiting. It has fulfilled all of my expectations of the brand. It has been said that money can't by happiness but it can buy a Porsche which is the same thing :) Drive safely.

Drove the car from Porsche Museum recently. I was early 1975 Turbo and I just loved it. The feeling of speed is incredible. Seats were supportive and the car was 100% analogue. TBH I am a big fan of turbo lag as well. What a car it must have been in its period.
I’ve had my 1988 930 Cabriolet for 25 years now. It’s been slightly ‘weaponized’ with a larger turbo, stainless header system/exhaust, and a few other things. After all these years, it is still a totally exhilarating yet understated driving experience. If you’re at all like me, the longer you keep your 930, the more you’ll enjoy it.., guaranteed!
All air cooled cars need work. Some more than others. I bought mine and did around 8k worth of new parts. Labor was my time and to be honest I loved it. I know my 993 better than any car I have ever owned. It is now perfect mechanically and drives like a dream. Wouldn't hestitate to drive it on a road trip. Congrats on an amazing car you got there.
"Brake …. brake a lot more than that!!" "If I want a flaming death experience, this car will deliver". Loving the sense of humour, and enjoying going back to watch some older content! I remember a mate of mine getting the next gen turbo 2nd hand in the mid 90s - it was all going so well until "the turbo chopped in whilst going around the roundabout" ending up down the motorway slip road embankment and through a fence ….
You both did a great job giving a TRUE (no bs) overview of an amazing example of the old 930 Turbo. I happen to own 2 very low Km 89 Turbos, one 1989 Turbo Cab and one 1989 Turbo Coupe. They are both Linen on Linen, and they make a lovely pair, like two bothers... or two sisters depending how you personally describe your cars. 1989, The last year of truly unadulterated Porsche sports cars with iconic looks and no electronic nanny's to save the inexperienced driver.... it's just you and God!
I bought a 1996 993 C2, varioram, 20,000 miles, 6-speed manny tranny, back in 2007. I put $10,000 into it: 30K service plus a totally new Bilstein HD ROW-height suspension, beefier sway bar, etc. From that point on I basically had a newly-improved car. I still have it. It's a keeper, as you say.
Of course I'm going to give the video a like - its a classic Porsche Turbo being driven properly! £8k extra on putting a formerly stored car right. Yes, had a similar issue with a previously stored motorcycle, which effectively doubled the already high purchase price. Rode wonderfully after that point, and having bought a very solid vehicle in the first place it sold well a few years later. If you intend to keep and drive, then after you get over the inevitable initial shock, not an enjoyment or fiscal issue, and will always be both fun and reliable. Go drive it and enjoy Damian (but give the keys to Jason occasionally).
Clicked onto this for the sound. My mother had a 930 ‘89 Targa with 16k on the clock for years that I loved driving. I will buy one myself one day too once I have convinced my wife it won’t kill me!
Every single Porsche review video I've seen, the car is always stopped on a stony somewhat dirty surface and the reviewer climbs in with no attempt to shake the crap off his shoes. Incredible.
Interesting to see the extent to which this first generation of commercialized turbo Porsches needs to be driven so differently and cautiously than the present generation 911s - except for maybe the staggeringly powerful GT2 RS and Turbo/S. Your comments lead to understanding (for the non initiated driver) why this model was known as The Widow maker ! What is also fascinating is the sheer smallness of these 911s compared to the 991 and 992 generations. Awesome ! You must be truly delighted, and with very good reason. The 8000 quid were bloody worth while 😄👍
I had a 1979 930 Turbo with no converters left hand steering and I paid $15,000. I pinned it at 180 but with only a 4 speed it could go no faster. I also owned a 928,911SC,A 911SC Targa and a 944 which was one of the most fun cars they made. Enjoy your Porsche while you can !!!
Great video guys on the continuous story of this awesome car. I had kept an eye on this car pre auction and couldn’t quite Believe it when you guys bought it. We also imported an 1987 930 turbo high output to Australia. And yes a few little problems, but wow the power delivery when the turbo spooled up.
Great video guys, and you make a great comedy duo. Stunning car which takes me back to the age of bellbottoms, sidelocks and moustaches, open necked shirts with collars the size of wing flaps on a 747 etc.......!!!!! As another owner of a 987.1 Cayman, I can appreciate everything about your driving experience in that classic Porsche. Another thing, the air cooled engines have a noticeably gruffer note than most water cooled Porsches these days that lack the sport exhaust. My Cayman has a Capristi system to enhance the distinctive flat six sound and add about 22 HP.
Linen, cracking colour, it looks absolutely fantastic, exterior/interior combination, there’s nothing to change, modify or tweak. £7,900+ for peace of mind that it’s in the best condition imaginable.
Beautiful car chaps - the one on my bedroom wall as a young petrolhead - albeit black - courtesy of Athena. It's what got me into Porsche as a brand and why I'm now on my 3rd 911 and 5th Porsche!
This is a perfect example of a garage queen car and the costs involved recomissioning it , however the low mileage will hold it's value from a collectors prospective. I own a Corrado VR6 157 k and a Sl500 R129 127k (72k cost in 1999 more then a 911 from the same era and my first house ha ) , gone through the whole car Suspension , timing chains, trimmers etc on both cars and drive like they should , modern classics buy on condition and recent money spent in my opinion as mileage is just a number. Great looking 930 by the way, 964 RS would be on top of my list. Keep up the great work guys.
£8000 doesn't sound to bad compared to the $20,000 top end rebuild Farah's safari 911 needs , and that wont even stop it being pink ! Although 8G is a lot more than it cost to turbo my MX5 for a higher BHP/TON than the 911- but its still an mx5 so its all relative ;-)
We want so much for people to be honest. I'd wager the record for "most crashes of a new car on its first drive" easily belongs to the 930. Very nice example. Cool colour combo.
I have a uncle in Santa Barbra California with a 70's 911 SC Targa in light blue metallic. I got to ride in it as a young teen and I've been a Porsche fanatic ever since. I hope to own a 930 some day. If you guys like this you'll love the Singer Porsche's. Thanks.
I got to 57 before feeling the need for a Porsche - only one I had been in was a 924 back in about 1985/6 ish. I was left quite underwhelmed by that experience. Cut a long story short bought a 4.5 twin turbo Cayenne and am now totally converted. Thinking a Boxster may join the stable - 911's too dear now, even project ones.
The most complete looking 911 in my opinion, superb looking thing! Sounds amazing on boost too - the in car shots really highlight the amazing visibility!
Xerox makes a product called Fuser Oil. You can find it on ebay. I would advise any one to aquire some especially with any kind of classic car and use it on all the rubber molding door and trunk seals. My dad a 1969 that he used fuser oil on all the rubber and it was considered better then new when he sold it in 2009. Also better then replacement moldings/seals. Dad said he could put a bead of it on the outer tire wall let it sit for a week and it would permeate to the interior wall of the tire.
this was the car of my dreams back in the day, very nicely put together video guys, moves along perfectly, very watchable, love the humour - thanks for sharing TFS !
Must be the best example and lowest mileage outside of porsches own museum, very surprised a prestige auction group do not supply a pre purchase report, I know it's an auction "sold as seen and no warranty implied or given " and all that , but still , it's not exactly a 10 year old fiesta . £800 is a very expensive repair bill, but £8 grand !!!!!!! , that's another used car. I liked the Emblem inserts, I would love a tour around that garage some very nice machinery in their . The problem with these old mechanical non electronic cars is you have to strip them right down to fault diagnose, which costs a fortune in labour, rather than plug in a code reader.
Congratulations for the car and the video. I have to admit that you did a great job getting this piece of Porsche's history back. I love the lines of the car, they're just timeless...They were utterly machines to be driven and that's all about them! I would like to see the car personally, but on the video doesn't really stands out the colour. And the interiour in white, is not completely my cup of tea but whatever! I like the comment about VW Golf R having the same power output but I can imagine it's like comparing apples and oranges...I wonder who owned this car 30 years ago...when exotic cars were not that popular.Anyways, keep posting more videos of cars because I am totally addicted to them!! By the way, besides the general maintenance, do you have any improvements -if we can say that- planned? Cheers from Majorca.
The paintwork is in very good condition (impressively shiny for a clear grey car) bar a few nicks on the front. The interior looks nice but as some other comment said, try to refurb the gear knob. This and a new set of plates (they are horrible and the front one looks bent) will bring the whole car really to the same standard as now the mechanicals are: outstanding. Congrats on the car and on another great video. Keep them coming!
AAAhh Turbo love............worth every penny to have her right tho .............nice to see Jason taking a few liberties with her.....but he is showing classic symptoms of a petrol head who needs a track day in the Honda with the boys to preserve his licence..........
British roads honestly scare me- they seem so narrow. May be it's just the perspective caused by the cameras, but they look about a foot wider than whatever car is on them. Great when you're all alone in your F12 or 911, but terrifying when there is oncoming traffic. Still, what a great car and glad it found a good home and a little TLC. Fantastic!
Give me one of these, over a GT3 RS any day of the week. This is when Porsche knew how to make a great car. Just think that £8k you have wisely spent on this stunning example, was money well spent. These aircooled beauties are increasing in value, year on year, and £8k was worth every penny.
Patina huh ? Well, ya learn something new everyday! My car has got heaps of patina(s). Beautiful looking car that 930. Absolutely timeless. Damien, I get the impression that you don't always trust Jason's judgement while driving? Once again, very entertaining vid. I've got a number to cath up with :)
A fully sorted low mileage example of an iconic car...if that's not a keeper I don't know what is. Great addition to your collection. Unlike its former keepers I hope you use it as it was intended?! Another throughly enjoyable vlog...thanks guys!
Yeah, my ‘86 930 had all the same issues and was costing me about AU$2,500 a year in maintenance... you have to engine rebuild every 90,000kms, so get ready for that one. The driving experience is just unbelievable. Nothing still compares 😁 enjoy guys!
Darren, that’s just plain wrong. I’ve professionally worked on these cars for years. Any 930 that needs a rebuild at 90 km was caused by some other fault.....like the driver cranking up the boost above the stock .8 bar. Or just pure neglect. 930,911, 964,993 are very reliable cars.
@@ruftime Mate, the service book and workshop guides even say it... Maybe you'll get more out of them these days with better materials, like head gaskets and such, but that's what the books say. I remember reading it in the books, after my mechanic said I'd done well with a 125k engine needing a top-end rebuild. Maybe someone else can jump in a verify either way. Anyway, I'm in a 997 now, so I'm not really concerned anymore.
Stunning car, great to see its all working and tip top :-). Don't suppose there is any come back with the cost of the faults being that it was bought from auction?, think you should hunt the previous owner down and leave a poo in a burning paper bag on his doorstep then ring the doorbell and hide but hey. Drove an 1988 Carrera sport with the g50 box many many years ago, they take a bit of getting used to, flat ish bolt upright steering wheels and pedals out the floor like dare I say erm a beetle but ace cars and love the flat six howl.....enjoy the car, great video chaps
Great vid, glad you did a follow up! Surprised to see going through Fordingbridge, next village to us…… petrolhead like yourselves, used to build and manage supercars and race cars for Ascari….. will follow channel with interest… 👍👍👍
Again, a great video. You guys always look like you're having fun, which makes me smile, no pretence at all, just a really nice friendship, what a sweet running 930 now, personally I prefer these cool, older cars (achingly lovely)
Which one is more satisfying just for normal driving on the road? Old 930 Turbo or new GT3 Touring? 930 Turbo is so much smaller, easier to place on the road, and seems to ride nicely, with low NVH for an old car. Great color combo, looks very classy.
Great video, lovely to see a 930 being used and appreciated. Not for the faint hearted but once sorted and used they are relative value. Love the boost.........nothing, nothing then whoosh
Traction is amazing my mates 4 speed would do 50mph in 1st, it was funny to pull in front of a car thence see their faces thinking they were going into the back of you then turbo kicked in and we were gone- great kick in the back .
Love the channel and your passion for all things car.My cars a keeper too, but just a humble Porsche 987.2 S and always hoping to catch the car guys enjoying the local roads of Dorset.
05:52 - The shop "Emblem" decided the best 10 second promo video clip of their business would be to show a man maneuvering a long ladder between a set of rare, expensive sport cars whilst carrying a huge heavy toolbox at the same time. No time to go back and forth twice here! Better carry the two things at once, even though it increases the chance of hitting one of the customers' cars...
Nice looking car. Years ago I almost bought on on ebay. I guess bidding did not go high enough because seller pulled the auction. You only forgot to rotate the tachometer so 7K is at 12 o'clock!
in Australia - early 2000s you could import one of these for less than 20k (they were left hand drive) but could be converted for like less than 10k... now one of these cars cannot be purchased for under 120k
My dad had to put two bags of cement in the front of his,to stop it "taking off".At 150mph the steering became light. Two bags and door mirrors folded flat... 164mph.YYY 315T.Casablanca Beige will Chocolate leather.I wonder where it is today. 😀 😀
What a beautiful automobile! … having come to your channel only recently I'm not sure what cars you have or don't have -- you go through cars like I went through wives. But what a beauty this one is.
Sadly it sounds as if your mechanic doesn’t know the 930 very well. For ignition issues you always start at the CD Box. Yours was Perma Tune, the Bosch CDI Box is the one to use.

Had one for 28 years now and still love it. This is a very realistic account of the visceral 930 experience.

A fully sorted low mileage example of an iconic car...if that's not a keeper I don't know what is. Great addition to your collection. Unlike its former keepers I hope you use it as it was intended?! Another throughly enjoyable vlog...thanks guys!
Thanks, Gemster
Beautiful 930 consider yourself fortunate to get a low milage car.
That's great, I really enjoyed this video!
Yeah, my ‘86 930 had all the same issues and was costing me about AU$2,500 a year in maintenance... you have to engine rebuild every 90,000kms, so get ready for that one. The driving experience is just unbelievable. Nothing still compares 😁 enjoy guys!
Thanks, Darren - glad you're watching
Beautiful car ,well done on getting it sorted with a garage that you trust and know what their doing .
Thanks, Jam - it’s come out better than I could have hoped
Such a beautiful car worth every penny!!.
I currently have 997.1 Carrera S, next one will be either 964 or 930. Loved the brand especially 911.
Now you got the near perfect 911 Turbo. Send it Singer and make it 100% perfect.
Love this channel proper car guys , keep the vids coming !!
Great video gents, I remember these cars on the road as a teenager and this was the mack daddy of all supercars on British roads.
It still is!
The 930 is a far better long distance road machine than the Touring
Great video, lovely to see a 930 being used and appreciated. Not for the faint hearted but once sorted and used they are relative value. Love the boost.........nothing, nothing then whoosh
Thanks Paul, we had great fun making this one
Inspired me to take the 930 for a spin on this sunny Sunday.
Traction is amazing my mates 4 speed would do 50mph in 1st, it was funny to pull in front of a car thence see their faces thinking they were going into the back of you then turbo kicked in and we were gone- great kick in the back .
964 bumpers really complete this car. RUF did it in 87 onwards and it makes all the difference
Beautiful car to own and drive lovely colour , they are a complete joy to own, great video boys
Great result after the mechanical sort-out.
This is the car that got me into cars all those years back I Luv It🤪
Love the channel and your passion for all things car.My cars a keeper too, but just a humble Porsche 987.2 S and always hoping to catch the car guys enjoying the local roads of Dorset.
Ok I'll take some pics in the morning and forward them
It is my dream to own (and drive ofcourse) a 911 Carrera... One day. Fantastic 930 Turbo. I like it!
Nice looking car. Years ago I almost bought on on ebay. I guess bidding did not go high enough because seller pulled the auction. You only forgot to rotate the tachometer so 7K is at 12 o'clock!
Beautiful, should hone your reflexes when out in the wet. I advise a clean pair of pants in the glove box.
Lovely looking car!!!
Chaps, loving these vids and the banter. Brilliant work!
Thanks, Steven
Another very enjoyable video, thanks...... 😀😀😀
in Australia - early 2000s you could import one of these for less than 20k (they were left hand drive) but could be converted for like less than 10k... now one of these cars cannot be purchased for under 120k
One of the best sports cars in history.
Agreed
Guys you've earned your keep !! Another great video. Its good to see that in the 80's cars were pretty fast also.
Cheers, James
My dad had to put two bags of cement in the front of his,to stop it "taking off".At 150mph the steering became light. Two bags and door mirrors folded flat... 164mph.YYY 315T.Casablanca Beige will Chocolate leather.I wonder where it is today. 😀 😀
Your dad is right, I have a 79 911 sc and the front end gets light at 120 mph.
Eventually got round to watching this video, what a car, and hilarious review, loved it.
Thanks, Graham
I always loved this model porsche lovely car
It was just a PERFECT moment in life.
👍👍
As always a great video. Love seeing a bit of old and new together.
Cheers, mate
had 3 in the 80s, nothing like them.
I like. Comparison with 964 Turbo would be bonkers.
Agreed
Beautiful looking 930.
Weren’t they called The Widow Maker back in the day because of their ability to shoot into hedges mid-corner?
I have just bought silver color Welly 1:24 930 Turbo (1974) 😄 very iconic model. Enjoy her in good health.
Lovely work, sir
Great video guys , and that's why you shouldn't store these cars away
Absolutely - a cautionary tale
What a beautiful automobile! … having come to your channel only recently I'm not sure what cars you have or don't have -- you go through cars like I went through wives. But what a beauty this one is.
great video update mr. carguys . one of the best car in your garage along with the 458 speciale IMO
Thank you Ruben
My favourite car ever in the right color!
Aah the widowmaker! Beaut :)
Well done guys , shame about the F40 though !
Sadly it sounds as if your mechanic doesn’t know the 930 very well. For ignition issues you always start at the CD Box. Yours was Perma Tune, the Bosch CDI Box is the one to use.
Fantastic job guys 👌🏻 The car looks amazing ! Would love to park mine next to it for a photo shoot .
Absolutely
Great video again, best format having the pair of you reviewing. Personally not a fan of Porsche's.
