I think the next one should be either The Moor or Moonlapse Vertigo. Both are epic songs
Already did Moor...check it out a while ago :) Will keep Moonlapse noted! Thanks!
Steven Wilson sings the backing vocals at that 8 minute mark in the studio version that you mentioned. He also sings the chorus in Bleak. Personally, I think it's their best song on the Blackwater Park album. You should definitely listen to Bleak next - There's a brilliant lyric video of it on youtube. You get to watch the video instead of just listening to the music too. Check it out.!!
OOOh, that is perfect, I don't know why more fans don't make lyric videos to these songs so it is easier to get both at the same time. Bleak is noted! Thanks for the heads up!
@@captainmorgan1978 Add Demon of the Fall to the list as well! Song is on a level-100 badass.. The Roundhouse Tapes live-version is really good but I'd suggest a lyric video for that too..
@@moonfool4042 Added! :)
Came for Opeth, discovered and liked Caligula's Horse and Haken. Mainly Caligula's Horse!!
haha nice! :)
Nice video man, ghost of perdition also deserves a studio version listen, the acoustic sections sounds so crisp and multi-layered, even though they live performance is very tight.
Obs: the studio version was produced by steven wilson, along with some other opeth albums, his influence in modern prog music is beyond measure.
Noted...damn Steven Wilson is a badass! lol Thanks for the info
In the 8th minute of the studio version it's Steven Wilson singing with Mikael.
Damn, it sounded great! Dude is a legend!
This is from their album Blackwater Park, which you may already know, and it's the best album of Opeth's for me. It may have something to do with the fact, that Steven Wilson produced that album.
In this consert they didn't do the best job, but live at shepherd's bush they did a much better job in my opinion. Also live at red rocks is a good consert for songs from the sorceress album and I think it sounds better than the studio version
Yers someone else mentioned RR..I lived in Denver for 7 years so that would be a good one to check out! Thanks!
He had major issues with his screaming during this period, which shows all through out the show unfortunately.
He had just changed from ear plugs to in ears, which are great for singing but made him compensate with his vocal cords during the screams, since he based his technique around not hearing jack shit of what he's doing. Sounds ok if you're not used to his beasty potential, but the emotion he puts into the growls on most of the album recordings are truly unmatched.
Before you move on from their live stuff, they do have a dvd that's worth checking out. The roundhouse tapes from 2006 (the one Ghost of Perdition is from). When, Bleak and Windowpane are pretty sweet! Stay away from the low quality youtube versions though.
Also! I'd like to hear your thoughts on *All Things Will Pass* from their latest release, they've changed their sound a lot so that would be interesting
Hell yea man, I did do a reaction or 2 from Roundhouse tapes...The Moor I think. That's really interesting info on his growls. I will definitely keep in mind All Things Will Pass for the future. Thanks for the comment!
wow..patience, man.
Patience for what?
@@captainmorgan1978 For Opeth of course :) Give each section the time it needs cause the payoff is always worth it and thought out
@@6070505 didn't mean to double post...different styles of reactors out there. I can't stand it when people don't say anything throughout the song, but others like that style...🤷♂️
@@captainmorgan1978 I love that you Understand music and prog and give your insights of course, its just that opeth is one of those bands that "silence" add to the experience, relax your soul even in the heavy parts, imagine the scenes and stories, travel and let it be, something will always happen and surprise you!
Keep up the videos though, i enjoy them.
Would recommend a listen to the song The Moor and Moon Above Sun Below.
@@6070505 👍 Moor has been done 😁
Listen to drive home by steven Wilson, also do ANESTHETIZE live.
Drive home noted. I am already familiar with Anesthetize and seen it several times...killer track!
Nice reaction. I always try and check out studio and live versions of songs. Also on a side note I am freaking excited for February next year. I'm going to go see Opeth in Toronto and then a couple weeks later I'm going to see Devin Townsend and haken opening up for him.
Ayy another one.
I'll watch it later :)
Lamentations DVD
Nice!
Studio version is superior to this, I mean it's steven wilson production we're talking about here...
Also I prefer Mikael's growls back then
and better drummer martin was there
@@bahadirozer no
roundhouse tapes was a pretty on point live performance where theyve been on highest lvl imho
i dont realy like their studio version of "Face of melinda", but their live version from Roundhouse tapes was so fuckin awesome, and all their songs there were sick.
i suggest u continue on studio versions, but if u wanna check some realy high lvl live stuff from them go check the roundhouse tapes
Nice, do you just think the live stuff have more energy?
*_OPETH - Sorceress (LIVE AT RED ROCKS AMPHITHEATRE)_* is one particular song which is actually better than the studio version. It somehow has a bit more heaviness to it, and is otherwise almost perfectly reproduced :)
Awesome I lived in Denver for 7 years and have been to RR many times..would be familiar and great to watch...thanks!
Talk about impatience? Why not get into the mood and enjoy each section first..
Huh?
@Zedrik Allen if that's what you want to do that's cool but different strokes for different folks🤷♂️
@Zedrik Allen haha got it...
Opeth usually sounds live like the studio version, but since around when this dvd came out his growls vocals have gone down hill . If you check out his latest live shows with no growls they sound just like the studio.
Yea other commentors have said the same thing. The same happened with James in DT, but his seemed to recover and then recently get bad again...I think singing is one of the hardest musical instruments to take on and this is a big reason why.
@@captainmorgan1978 Yea for sure, its hard work to take care of their vocals. And of course getting older doesn't help
In the red rocks DVD I actually feel like his growls have improved since this show. They're a bit different from the albums but really brutal
He talked about the singing in this show, his earpiece didnt function as it should, so he couldnt basicly hear him self. The drumming is lost in the mix, and its not the same drummer as the album version.
Ahh that is good info. Regardless the a,bum version was awesome!~
Do Opeth - The Grand Conjuration.
Edit: Try out Gojira - Clone. You will get used to growling as the growling in this song goes along with the heavy riffs.
Thanks for the suggestion. Cheers!
Irish jig? O' Peth.
haha, it sounded like it to me...
