" Shri Ramana Maharshi was one of the most significant people of this century. He was not a master; that’s why people don’t know him as they know George Gurdjieff or J. Krishnamurti. They don’t even know him as they know Sri Aurobindo or P. D. Ouspensky who were only teachers - profound teachers, but not mystics. “Ramana Maharshi was a silent pool of energy. Every morning he used to sit for a silent satsang, communion. He never talked much, unless asked something. Then too his answer was very short - having profundity, but you had to look for it. There was no explanation in it. His literature is confined to two, three small booklets. “His teaching was mostly to be in silent communion with the disciples. Naturally, very few people were benefited by him. Perhaps she is waiting for you, to see you for the last time. Perhaps that is why she is hanging around a little longer.” “Ramana went in and there were tears in the eyes of the cow. And she died happily, putting her head in the lap of Ramana Maharshi. This happened just in this century. Ramana declared her enlightened, and told his people that a beautiful memorial should be made for her. It is very rare for human beings to be enlightened; it is almost impossibly rare for animals to become enlightened, but the cow attained. “She will not be born again. From the body of a cow she has bypassed the whole world of humanity, and she has jumped ahead and joined with the buddhas. So once in a while - there are a few instances only - it has happened. What a blessing are Ramana's teachings. If truth werent' present within and behind each moment, it wouldn't be true. Being still and noticing That which unifies life. It is the peace which surpasses all understanding. Just noticing the indwelling Self is abiding in the Self. Meditation is being That. Not two.
To recognize Sri Ramana as the greatest Rishi of the Century is a great blessing and awareness. His words are so profound but it is not necessary to "decode" them in order to better understand them. His words can only be understood when at least a glimpse of the "Self" is seen. To seek to greater "understand" Ramana's words defeats their purpose. Their purpose is to encourage us to make effort to be in that state that is without thoughts.
He was a truly an enlightened being without any ego. He was a true spiritual teacher, unlike the present ones who just charge money for their teaching and have made spiritual business. Best Wishes.

The purpose of a human birth is to attain the state that Ramana Maharshi attained, that’s it, nothing else. Look at that face of Maharshi, total bliss.
He was enlightened man. Difficult to understand such deep concepts, even more difficult to practice. May be, the best we could do is just be nice to everyone and carry on with our daily activities with contentment.
There is no such thing as an "enlightened man". Truth is the absence of the individual. The absence of the individual in any moment is the truth of the field of presence. The field is all and always.

Every age needs a Guru for not because the old teachers are out-dated (Knowledge and truth are never out-dated). Every age needs a Guru for people to relate to the Guru and also ask questions and find out the answers, to correct us.. I have found such a Guru after listening to a lot of spiritual lectures given by many popular spiritual teachers.. He is Prem Siddartha.. He is the ultimate Vedanta teacher and who rationally and practically describes the philosophy for people like us.. so that normal people can understand basics before starting to ponder over higher knowledge.. He is modest. like a person next door..but his knowledge is unbelievable..and enlightening.. He himself quotes Sri Ramana Maharshi several times.. He says before you can even start thinking about what Ramana Maharshri told to know about oneself.. there is a lot of practice to be put in to start with.. it needs a lot of practice to even start where Ramana Maharshi asks people to start.
Maharshi's teaching is the sweet breeze that blows away the doubts because the truth is that doubts are in the mind and when the mind is silent there are no doubts. In fact there is no mind!. Maharshi said, quit thinking and show me, where is the mind? There is only the Self.
my granddad passed away in 2012, i was only 13-14 so i never wanted to read all the books he had. Now i'm 20 look back i wish i did. This was the only and last thing he shared on facebook linked with his books he read. He was so clever and spiritual :(

If you really understand Ramana teachings then you would know that there is no bondage, nor liberation, so also no enlightanment too. According to Ramana only Self exist, everything else is false.

Shivabalayogi named Ramana Marharshi as one of the only "legit" yogis of this era saying there is a difference between a yogi and spiritual teacher and that was "A yogi is one who has attained Self realization through tapas" (sometimes translated as spiritual austerity or penance) which is meditation in the state of enlightenment (samadhi, no thoughts). He described tapas as at least 12 continuous hours of meditation every day, usually for several years, until one attains God realization or Self realization (he used the terms “God” and “Self” interchangeably in this respect). Google his name along with Ramana's for more info on the other yogi's he considered legit. Also, Alan Watts, a philosopher, writer, and speaker best known as an interpreter of Eastern philosophy for a Western audience often spoke very highly of Ramana Maharshi.

“Become conscious of being conscious. Say or think “I am”, and add nothing to it. Be aware of the stillness that follows the “I am”. Sense your presence, the naked unveiled, unclothed beingness. It is untouched by young or old, rich or poor, good or bad, or any other attributes. It is the spacious womb of all creation, all form.”
As a buddhist i recognize the progression. By way of elimination of items to identify with, the ego is chopped down to the point, where eventually the mind in the central channel in the heart drop, the most subtle clear light mind is made manifest when all conceptual thought subsides. That experience of subject-object-merging is non-dual, no subject, object, nor I nor world. It is like space, but blissful. The appearance of time and space gone. The Hindu will identify with that as satchitanand, the Buddhist while seeing that as the deepest possible positive phenomenon, too, makes an extra effort to disidentify from the clear light mind (Ātman), too. Why? Because according to him, even that subtle identification must be overcome. Realizing the emptiness of all phenomena with this subtle Atman-mind, that actually guarantees that one will be able to abide in the clear light eternally. As long as even subtle identification as Self are adhered to, only superficial grasping has been removed and will have to return. Could be in 84000eons, but it will. Therefor, the best ist (from Buddhist Tantra), eliminate the grasping to I as even identical with the Ātman. Ātman is only the final base on which the I is ascribed, but it is not identical with it. The I is not a substance. It is a name.on the basis of the substance, eternal, functioning. Free of suffering forever, no return. Don’t criticize me, just leave it if you think I make undue suggestions on a Hindu site, sorry.

To recognize Sri Ramana as the greatest Rishi of the Century is a great blessing and awareness. His words are so profound but it is not necessary to "decode" them in order to better understand them. His words can only be understood when at least a glimpse of the "Self" is seen. To seek to greater "understand" Ramana's words defeats their purpose. Their purpose is to encourage us to make effort to be in that state that is without thoughts.
He was a truly an enlightened being without any ego. He was a true spiritual teacher, unlike the present ones who just charge money for their teaching and have made spiritual business. Best Wishes.

The purpose of a human birth is to attain the state that Ramana Maharshi attained, that’s it, nothing else. Look at that face of Maharshi, total bliss.
He was enlightened man. Difficult to understand such deep concepts, even more difficult to practice. May be, the best we could do is just be nice to everyone and carry on with our daily activities with contentment.
There is no such thing as an "enlightened man". Truth is the absence of the individual. The absence of the individual in any moment is the truth of the field of presence. The field is all and always.

Tilopa, Zen master of the 11th century wrote: "When you look for it, you cannot find it. When you find it, you cannot get rid of it. When you do neither, it's right there."
So I take it you are fully Awakened then and beyond such things...but wait...why are you then watching and commenting on this?

Every age needs a Guru for not because the old teachers are out-dated (Knowledge and truth are never out-dated). Every age needs a Guru for people to relate to the Guru and also ask questions and find out the answers, to correct us.. I have found such a Guru after listening to a lot of spiritual lectures given by many popular spiritual teachers.. He is Prem Siddartha.. He is the ultimate Vedanta teacher and who rationally and practically describes the philosophy for people like us.. so that normal people can understand basics before starting to ponder over higher knowledge.. He is modest. like a person next door..but his knowledge is unbelievable..and enlightening.. He himself quotes Sri Ramana Maharshi several times.. He says before you can even start thinking about what Ramana Maharshri told to know about oneself.. there is a lot of practice to be put in to start with.. it needs a lot of practice to even start where Ramana Maharshi asks people to start.

Maharshi's teaching is the sweet breeze that blows away the doubts because the truth is that doubts are in the mind and when the mind is silent there are no doubts. In fact there is no mind!. Maharshi said, quit thinking and show me, where is the mind? There is only the Self.
my granddad passed away in 2012, i was only 13-14 so i never wanted to read all the books he had. Now i'm 20 look back i wish i did. This was the only and last thing he shared on facebook linked with his books he read. He was so clever and spiritual :(

Yes.. I have a uncle who incidentally is making spectacle of himself claiming to be enlightened.. we all know for a fact that a truly enlightened soul would have no need to disclose it.

If you really understand Ramana teachings then you would know that there is no bondage, nor liberation, so also no enlightanment too. According to Ramana only Self exist, everything else is false.
There are awakened and enlightened people in each culture and each religion. Most of them are to modest to talk about it.

He is not just a guru, he is God in human form, a being who has realized the Self as divine.
Shivabalayogi named Ramana Marharshi as one of the only "legit" yogis of this era saying there is a difference between a yogi and spiritual teacher and that was "A yogi is one who has attained Self realization through tapas" (sometimes translated as spiritual austerity or penance) which is meditation in the state of enlightenment (samadhi, no thoughts). He described tapas as at least 12 continuous hours of meditation every day, usually for several years, until one attains God realization or Self realization (he used the terms “God” and “Self” interchangeably in this respect).
Google his name along with Ramana's for more info on the other yogi's he considered legit.
Also, Alan Watts, a philosopher, writer, and speaker best known as an interpreter of Eastern philosophy for a Western audience often spoke very highly of Ramana Maharshi.

As a buddhist i recognize the progression. By way of elimination of items to identify with, the ego is chopped down to the point, where eventually the mind in the central channel in the heart drop, the most subtle clear light mind is made manifest when all conceptual thought subsides. That experience of subject-object-merging is non-dual, no subject, object, nor I nor world. It is like space, but blissful. The appearance of time and space gone. The Hindu will identify with that as satchitanand, the Buddhist while seeing that as the deepest possible positive phenomenon, too, makes an extra effort to disidentify from the clear light mind (Ātman), too. Why? Because according to him, even that subtle identification must be overcome. Realizing the emptiness of all phenomena with this subtle Atman-mind, that actually guarantees that one will be able to abide in the clear light eternally. As long as even subtle identification as Self are adhered to, only superficial grasping has been removed and will have to return. Could be in 84000eons, but it will. Therefor, the best ist (from Buddhist Tantra), eliminate the grasping to I as even identical with the Ātman. Ātman is only the final base on which the I is ascribed, but it is not identical with it. The I is not a substance. It is a name.on the basis of the substance, eternal, functioning. Free of suffering forever, no return. Don’t criticize me, just leave it if you think I make undue suggestions on a Hindu site, sorry.
