Most dealerships will remove the sticker for you. Just ask before you buy it. It's 5 minutes worth of work with tools they have handy and they don't want to lose a sale over a sticker. I've asked every time I've bought a car and they never made a big deal about it. "sure, we'll take care of it"
If I’m buying a car and it has a sticker on it, I tell the dealer that I charge a $500 “advertising fee.” Either they pay me, take the sticker off, or the deal is cancelled!!! Guess what? They always remove the sticker.
I always make the dealer remove the sticker. You get no free advertising from me! You are correct about CarMax they will remove the decal if you ask them to.
I bought a car from Carmax a couple days ago, and I fully intended to ask them to remove their logo sticker, but I ultimately forgot. When I called and asked later, they refused. Rather than fight about it, I followed your instructions and am happy to report that it went perfectly. No scratches and no residue. You'd never know anything had ever been there. Thanks so much!
i actually work at carmax as a detailer and we put the stickers on before cars make it to the front lot and we use a similar method on returned cars. and yes you can ask the dealer to remove the carmax stickers and tag plate trim covers and we will remove them
The internet is UNDEFEATED!! Thank you sir. I put a decal on my truck in a CROOKED FASHION and that adhesive was stronger than onion and garlic now & laters. THANK YOU so much for this tutorial.
I work at carmax and you know all you needed to do what peel the sticker off with your fingernail and take fingernail polish remover to take off the residue .. and no it will not mess up your paint. And yes when your car gets "prepped" (cleaned up and stickers taken off) inventory will take the stickers and tags off upon request.
"scratching" it off is a sure way to scratch the clear coat. just by wiping a cloth over your car scratches it. thats how swirl marks form. nearly ever car has swirl marks.
Nail polish remover is acetone. Acetone is used to thin and also dissolve enamel paint (i.e. car paint, nail paint). Idk... but Im not trying that on my car.
I wouldn't use polish remover, but a fingernail is less harmful than a card.. it isn't scratching against the surface at all.. just use your nail to lift an edge of a sticker letter, and peel the rest.. using a card is scraping against the paint..
I have an Audi with a little bear decal that may seem cute but that little bear is the symbol of a big second hand car salesman that rips people off. I am gonna get rid of it now.
this worked perfectly. I used a blow dryer and one of my shopping gift cards and it came right up. please make sure you keep the soapy water on it. it helps a whole lot!! was done in under 20 minutes and I had 3 lines of writing on my car!! Great tip! thank you
or use Citrol266, Rapid Remover, Goo Gone, Laquer Thinner, IPA, Wax&Grease Remover, etc. and save your clay bar for better uses. Another detailer tip from a detailer. Peace!
True it's in the purchase agreement but I worked with 2 guys on the one I bought and they said "well yeah we can take it off BUT we don't recommend us doing it because..." Clearly having CarMax do the removal is discouraged at a corporate level but I didn't want to argue I just wanted to get the hell out of there and get my dinner lol hence why I'm here now watching tutorials
Didn't have a heat gun but the hair dryer worked perfectly! There was a lot of glue left and I was too lazy to find the goo gone (I was also worried it would take the paint off) but a little elbow grease with the micro fiber cloth + soapy water fixed that up quick! Thanks!
Here’s a funny story: After watching this video I thought, “So all it needs is a little heat and they’ll peel right off?” So I just waited ‘til the hottest part of the day in the Texas sun during a heatwave, and sure enough, they peeled right the fuck off just using my fingernails.
I tried it. Got an extention cord, hair dryer, a card. It only took a minute. These decalls are quite clean and stretchy. All the letters came of easily using my fingernail and they didn't even have to be that hot. Pointing a hair dryer at a closed object can make it shut down so be careful not to break your hair dryer.
Just bought a 2016 Honda Accord coupe and I thought they’d take the CarMax sticker off for me... that sticker was buggin me. Thanks for this video man 💯💯💯
After you get your stickers off the glue residue might be easier to get it off with Goo Gone. just to get the little extra stuff that is left over off the vehicle
When I bought my car from Carmax, more than 8 years ago, I remember them asking me if I wanted the logo removed. I of course said yes. What they actually did, instead of taking the decal off, took off the logo part of the cheap license plate frame, making it even uglier. Today, I finally focused and used vinegar (several 5-min soaks) to soften the decal, used a rigid plastic spatula to scrape off the decal, WD40 to get rid of adhesive. I should have tried a hair dryer, I think it would have worked better.
Here is a much easier method. Either don't let the dealer put it on in the first place or have them remove it before you take delivery. (Personally, I find it beyond obnoxious that dealers apply these stickers. Most would go ballistic if they found so much as a small scratch on their car but for some reason are like sheep and just accept this practice. It is your car/property)
Safer easier way is to soak it in vinegar with a paper towel for 5 to 10 minutes use a credit card or cake spatula to gently scrape it of rub remaining residue off with a little alcohol and paper towels
Not sure I want to scrape my new car with a card like that. What about using your fingernail to peel off a corner, and then use a tweezer to lift it up?
Best thing to do is at the dealer table before the final sale, say ull finish the sale and sign when the emblem is removed. If they give u a run around, walk out. They'll remove it, trust me.
Great video. I will be purchasing a car from CarMax in the next few months....per your suggestion, I will be asking them to remove the decal before I leave the CarMax parking lot.
Use a regular non microfiber rag to get the glue off very easily, please don’t come at me for thinking it worked better, but it did work better, it took 2 hard wipes and it was off and my truck paint looks better than ever so I know it didn’t do any damage
I went to a car wash and used the power washer and sprayed the sticker at an angle and it came right off. Was that safe? I do not believe that the water pressure was extremely strong, but could that have potentially hurt the top coat/paint on the car?
I’ve bought about 5 cars from CarMax and before I leave the dealership, I always ask them to take off the CarMax sticker and I’ve never had a problem… they’re always happy to take it off
Much easier would be towel, acetone and card. You won’t have to worry about over heating it, and acetone will remove glue too. And yes Carmax will remove sticker for you..
It's true in the fine print carmax will "take it off at no cost to you" I'm going to try and do it myself tho, I'm handy and I can save the time waiting around.
Ed ross I personally used it on my Silver Genesis to remove some sticker some idiot put on my car bumper and bit worked flawlessly! I did however did that in the summer so I didn't need any heat to remove it. I would recommend a couple of microfiber cloths to clean off the oily residue from the goo gone with some soapy water.
right? it was so simple.. these videos had me scared lol.. ppl are wasting time and probably damaging their paint with some of these suggestions.. not necessarily this video, but I watched many and some of them are doing way too much..
Lmao when you were showing the before and after shots I thought my app was tweaking and played a lance210 video😂😂 anyway awesome video, totally helpful 🙌🏼😉
You would think they have enough advertisement when they put their branded plates on the vehicles, why do they need to put that nasty sticker a logo.🤦🏽♂️
other detailers say to use lacquer thinner...there's a video...not soapy water...also don't use hair dryer...if you use lacquer thinner you don't need heat source...
I purchased a truck from another dealer and they did remove the logo when I asked.
i knew it ahah

Great to know!! Will definitely be asking them to remove it
Yes thank you sir 🙇🏽♂️
Ima stop by tomorrow lmao
Got my car back in February of this year, 2023. Is it too late to have them remove it? TIA
I used your method on my car and it came off with no problem and there's no glue residuals. Great video! Really helpful!
glad to help!

Who wants to drive a Mercedes with a carmax decal ....
Definitely not a higher end vehicle but I’ve got a 2017 Nissan Frontier Desert Runner & this sticker in annoys the hell outta me.
Nobody

That's a Mustang...
I agree. BUT, it does let people know u aren't stupid with your money and budget well to have what you have.
Just got my car the other day with a Carmax sticker and watched your video.. man all I gotta say is thank you 🙏🏽
just remove the 'x'
Instead of using soapy water you can also use paint remover . Turned my red car white 👍🏼

Just brought home a Mazda ND MX-5 Club from Carmax... in Black no less - this was very helpful!
40 CARMAX employees disliked this video🤣😂
As a carmax employee, I think the stickers are dumb

Carmax executives.
That's not funny. You put that sticker back! I'm trying take your money !!!

Goo Gone, won't hurt the paint and removed adhesive faster than soapy water.

I let my new Ram Rebel sit in the hot New Orleans sun (105 degrees today), and was able to peel the stickers off with just my bare hands.
Saves money on a heat gun.
i’m literally so mad why do they do this not a single person wants this shit on their car😭
lmaooo
Just a detainers tip....use a detail spray and clay bar to easily remove glue residue ✌🏻
or use Citrol266, Rapid Remover, Goo Gone, Laquer Thinner, IPA, Wax&Grease Remover, etc. and save your clay bar for better uses. Another detailer tip from a detailer. Peace!
So, Goo Gone is completely safe for the paint job?
Naptha would work
If it’s hot in Texas no need for blow dryer, just spray it with water and it comes right off. Gotta love Texas 😊
Maybe I should wait for a hot day before I remove it then 😅😂
Just bought a car and found your video. It was SO helpful!! Thanks for sharing!!!
Bought about 3 weeks ago. Fingernail and hot soapy water worked great. Thanks
I just bought a mustang from carmax myself and I will be giving this method a shot. Great Video
Good luck! And enjoy it! I've bought 2 mustangs from them haha
Insidious 5.0 I bought 1 a few weeks ago for 24,599
awesome! the one in video i bought for 23,499
Huh, I've always wondered if those decals were individual letters or a huge clear sticker, now I know the answer lol.
I'm sure it goes on all at once when they put them on

Why can’t carmax use a license plate frame just like Jim click instead of the sticker?
They use both a sticker and a plate frame. Not a fan of the sticker.
Every car I have bought has had a sticker and plate cover.
Does this scratch the paint at all with the card?
get a clay bar from the local auto store and detail spray. You can remove the glue easy with that.
Mullinax Ford dealer sticker is my culprit to remove. I’ll definitely do this at night or in shade. Thanks.
does this work on stickers in a glass surface as well?
Thank you for the helpful info, I used my portable heater.

White Vinegar works too! Rubbing Alcohol for the residue.🤞🏾
I’m watching this in the future
Couldn't get it off my gfs 06 honda. Its embedded in the paint. When touching the sticker it dips into it idk how to remove it. I tried to remove it

PEOPLE AFTER REMOVING STICKER DECALS USE GOO GONE REMOVER (NOT SOAP & WATER)
soap and water works just as well. goo gone will work better but it costs money
Goo be gone is awesome!
I use wd-40 idk if it's bad for your oaint but I haven't had any probkems with it

Yep! I did the exact same thing where it scratched/melted my paint.
Best thing I've found to remove glue residue is WD40.
I used WD40, too, for the residue. Always taught to use it for tar & oil splashes. It worked great!
so its just wd40 nothing else or not doing anything to the wd40
That’s pretty cool. How do you like your car from Carmax? I’m thinking of buying a car from them soon.
no problems so far. they definitely take care of their cars

What about fading. Does paint fade after a few years of sun light on the area around the decal. And that it looks like the decal is there anyways?!?

Much easier would be towel, acetone and card. You won’t have to worry about over heating it, and acetone will remove glue too. And yes Carmax will remove sticker for you..
good video man, simple and easier than I thought.
I have a dynamite 350Z from carmax, but a 12 year old kid told me to come here. Kid's too smart.
It's true in the fine print carmax will "take it off at no cost to you" I'm going to try and do it myself tho, I'm handy and I can save the time waiting around.
Where can I find this exactly?
This is just a tip but WD-40 gets rid of the glue left over really easily
I just bought a challenger from CarMax and it didn't have the decal on it. My wife just got a car there and has the decal.
Lighter fluid the best to removes safetly any sticky glue residue
Luckily I have a rusty 21 year old truck so I’m not too worried if the paint bubbles a bit
