Sparking Zero is basically a love letter to dragon ball fans it brings back concepts that were introduced back in the tenkachi games and refreshes it for a new generation. I really love what they done with the game the character animations, gameplay mechanics and the overall presentation look fantastic. I think 2 of my favorite modes in the game have to be the what if stories and custom battle. The what if stories reminds me of what they did back in (Dragon Ball Supersonic Warriors) for the GBA where they give each character a what if scenario to explore like for example what if Vegeta went ssj instead of Goku against Frieza or what if Krillin defeated Cell stuff like that. It adds a bunch of content to the game, and this is emphasize even more with custom battles where you can literally create your own scenarios with your favorite dragon ball characters and have others play them as well too. Overall this game is amazing, there are a few negatives though like only having 1 stage for local multiplayer, stuttering when navigating menu modes or sometimes in gameplay, cutscene animations look a little off sometimes, and finally no crossplay which is disappointing in 2024. The game isn't perfect but it's still the best dragon ball game we've gotten so far and has made a bunch of improvements since the other dragon ball games in the franchise.
While I haven't played Sparking Zero, everything I've seen about it looks incredible. The cinematics with the supers is well animated and flashy. The amount of effort put into the different character interactions and voice work is top notch too. I will say that the UI and character select screen are pretty underwhelming. They really needed to be stylized more which is weird since I think some of the other menus in the game actually are. Your critique on the story presentation is something I've heard before and I can see where you're coming from. I've seen a counterpoint that since DBZ: Kakarot is out, there really is no reason for Sparking Zero's story to go all out. While I understand that, I do also think going the extra mile to animate more of the story would be a treat to see specifically in Sparking Zero's engine and models, especially for DBS. Also, I'm down for a Kakarot vid because I got some choice words for that game lmao 👀.
You mean lowered it. Sparking Zero is in every way inferior to the last game in the series RAGING BLAST 2. Infact its so bad its a vailid reason for the FGC to point and laugh at anime games. The Modern CHUNSOFT dev team did nothing to try and balance it all. The work the OG TEAM did to Balance BT4\5 for ONLINE competitive play was took away by this modern dev team thinking their better then the older team while not knowing a single iota of what makes a BT game at its core let alone the fine tuning that was done after 5 games to make it balanced and somewhat competive. To put it another way Sparking ZERO is worse then BT1, it takes away the CORE of the BT games combat, and the online netcode is somehow much worse then RAGING BLAST 1 the TRUE BT4 from 2009.
