1. Muslims do not vote even for Muslims candidates of BJP. So, BJP can't field Muslims candidates in perpetuity only to prove its secular credentials by losing those seats.
2. Shekhar will never question Muslims as to why they fail to vote for BJP. It takes 2 to tango.
3. Shekhar will never ask Muslims who they look up to - A P J Abdul Kalam or Mukhtar Ansari or some Mullah.

You cannot keep blaming Indian Muslims for what the founders of Pakistan or other erstwhile Muslim leaders did. It has been 75 years. Othering people will affect the country further. The state has to find ways for amalgamation and assimilation. While this can be difficult, the minimum is to not otherise them, the state must not add to the problem.

Funny that SG has forgotten the cardinal principle of democracy. Muslims are first citizens of India. As a Keralite, I would like to point out one thing. BjP has placed only one Muslim in their candidat list across the country. It's Dr Abdul Salam @ Malappuram. Malappuram is a permanent seat of Indian Union Muslim League. But, this fully Muslim dominated constituency people will never vote for Dr.Abdul Salam. He will be defeated in a high margin. So, this rivalry attitude of Muslims against BJP will remain there without any changes. 😢

I think this is quite biased episode. If muslims just dont vote for bjp ~ how will they field any muslim candidate- elections are fought for winning. But unfortunately you will not point out this. It is sad to see SG, who is more balanced than most "Left" journalists, doing such selective and "victimhood" narrative. Towards the end he did make some sensible noises, but in the beginning, it was an absolute bias, which is familiar to us.
For decades Congress and the "secular" parties, took the route of "othering" the Hindus, and played vote Bank politics. That they could do this, escapes SG completely.
So, what should Hindu leaders do? Device a strategy to win, in spite of not getting the Muslim votes. That's what Modi and Shah did!

I don't understand Guptaji's normalisation of expectations of violence from a particular minority community in India, it's planting a justification to protect certain elements within the community. Other communities face much worse as minorities within our own region and else where but we do not see nor normalise or justify potential violence if it were to erupt. Also comparing India's treatment of it minority to Israel is so utterly dishonest.

Congress ruled for a long time, pandered to the Muslim voters and favoured them more than the Hindu voters under the name of secularism. But still Muslims have not progressed as much. So what that means is appeasement policies do not bring progress but make those sections of society completely dependent on the Centre.
So it makes sense for the Muslims to vote for BJP and use "sab ka saath sab ka vikas" vision of PM Modi to realign themselves to progress along with the rest of India. Religion based voting has not done them any good and breaking away from that tradition will also remove the Hindu-Muslim divide that is exploited by outsiders !!

Muslims don't vote for BJP, so there is no MP. Its only about others' duties to make Muslims happy. But people like Selkhar and others will never discuss what Muslims can do for others. There are other minorities also, but its always about Muslims and Muslims and Muslims. They are the second majority community. Yes Muslims representation is very very less in BJP era, it needs to be corrected.
BJP should share political power with progressive Muslims particularly Muslim women without thinking about votes.
But but the alienation will not end for Muslims, this alienation is somewhat self built in Islam itself.
Tell in which country where Muslims are in minority, they are not feeling alienation. Check European nations Muslims , there also they are feeling alienation.
Islam is built in such a way , there customs , their ideology , their faith , influence of clergy , it will not allow them organically to mix with mainstream. Islam is a political ideology where they want to exert , dominate through any means, and for that their society are built in such a way to make them monolithic with respect with outside mainstream.
