Kid, you are very lucky to have this dad of yours. Looks like you've been working at it a long time. Keep at it and don't limit yourself to just one genre.

Agree about diversifying. However, the fact that he's into metal will guarantee that he has incredible technique after a few years if he's serious about it. I can already see that his downpicking chops are pretty tight and audible from the creeping death riff. I love when kids are really into guitar and heavy metal. Restores my faith in humanity lol.

My dad gave me a Teisco! A few years later a friend gave me an SG junior with chopped off horns and a Tube Screamer. Thanks to Eddie I jumped to a Kramer around 1989. Considering how much I loved Kiss and the Sex Pistols it's crazy I never bought a Les Paul till I got my Epi LP. Getting the real deal in the near future or a top of the line Epi. We'll see when I visit the Gibson Garage in London this summer. 😊🤔👍

My kid is 10 he just started learning with my guitars. I saw that he got better withing the last couple of months so I took him to GC and bought him his first squier jaguar 70's. He's getting better every day. I know that feeling when your a father and see your kid grown into to something g better than you and you can afford to buy him the gear you always wanted as a kid. When my kid gets even better like your kid I'll buy him a fender jaguar kurt Cobain edition.

    Lucky you 🙂🙂
When I was growing up there was always an insane amount of shouting snd fighting between my mom and my... father... because shock, horror, my mom was playing her Beatles and Rolling Stones records...
My father was a diehard opera lover and he considered everything else a blasphemy...
There's absolutely no way he would have bought me a guitar ( and an amp ) let alone a Gibson Flying V...
Hell, if my mom had bought me the cheapest crappiest guitar she could find my father would have gone into a fit of anger and he would have smashed it and thrown it into a dumpster...
The very first guitar I ever bought was a 1985 Ibanez Roadstar RG-440, I still have It...But I had to wait until I was 18 and in my own place for that...
I bought ny first Gibson Flying V in 2000...
Congratulations young man and most importantly enjoy life 🙂🙂🙂
