I've never played a guitar in classical style before, but when I tried this flying v a couple days ago, it just feels natural and comfy, it sounds really really good too!
@@bellezzaguitars7155 actually, thank you. I went ahead and purchased this Gibson Flying V and of all the V’s I own (Jackson, Dean) this one has the right tone and feel.
Yes!!! I missed it when you uploaded the video but I’m catching it now. The editing and direction of the video is fantastic. There’s so much creativity and attention to detail. Thanks for putting so much work into your videos-I t’s not going unnoticed! Oh and 58 Flying V for sure! Great job Joe, Neuro, and your forehead!
This video is everything I aspire to be but am too lazy to do. I'm 5 minutes in and feel like this already took you a month to film record and edit. Incredibly talented man. Great playing and the intro was hilarious.
The original collection explorers and flying V were supposed to come with orange drop caps and cts pots and I believe some of the 2019 original collection did come with those pots and caps but now they are cutting corners already. The gibson pots are not bad but I find they start wearing out and get dirty relatively quickly . Gibson cuts corners in strange places . Another funny thing they do with their paf style pickups like 57 classics Burstbuckers and custombuckers is that they wind them with poly coated wire dyed to look like plain enamel coated magnet wire all of those pickups started with plain enamel wire but eventually they switched to dyed poly. As soon as a new Gibson pickup starts to be used outside limited edition guitars they switch to dyed poly . I love all those pickups just the same but it's kind off sleazy to advertise those pickups as being wound with real Pe wire but then use dyed poly to try and foll people . I personally do not care what wire they are would with as long and they sound good but for those who these details matter too I can understand their frustration.. I have always felt that If you judge Gibson pickups based on what they actually are instead of what Gibson claims them to be and what they are not then they are fantastic pickups in their own right . People bash gibson pups becuase they are advertised as paf clones true to the original specs and materials which they are not .so poeple expected a dead on 1959 paf clone end up disappointed because the pickups are really their own thing . They paf style or paf like pickups or inspired by paf pickups and when judged as that they are fantastic
The burstbuckers 2 and 3 are matched really well with the V and explorer . Those pickups sound better in slab mahagony guitars than in other Gibson models . Theu do sound great in les Paul's too but can be very bright but in explorers and the flying V they are perfect those guitars tame the brightness. The middle position of the V with burstbuckers 2 and 3 nails that mid 70s Jimmy page middle position live tone it's got that page middle position quack.
I have played nothing but Gibson V 's for over forty years. They are very comfortable to sit and play. I eventually got a Les Paul standard in ebony to add to my collection of v's,, well, just because. Lol. You find your own way to use your legs to crotch the V , sitting and standing. It becomes second nature.
Hey Nicholas, I want you to know that I take GREAT issue with Today's "Sponsor" at 7:19. 😉 Great job to you, Joe, and Neuro, and yes, I definitely prefer the slim taper.
8.3 k is actually quite mild for a burstbucker 3 . They are usually in the 8.6k to 9k range with most being 8.6 or 8.7 . I have 4 guitars with burstbucker 2 and 3 sets and they all vary in output white a bit . The BB3 in my 2018 explorer is 8.9 k and that pickup is a beast even with the volume pot rolled down to 7 it still drives the snp hard . Even at 2 or 3 on the volume pot the cleans are still pushed a bit .
I'm partial to the v98 version. The v98 has the '58 style pickguard/controls with the stop bar tailpiece. However, If I had my choice of V's you showed, it would be that custom. I could be happy with any of them though. I do prefer higher output pickups on them. I know some hate them but I love the 496/500 set on previous models.
Cool vid! Very thorough review of your guitar with great playing too, especially the blues portion. I enjoyed your sense of humor as well. I've been shopping for a Flying V for a couple of months now and getting very close to pulling the trigger on one in particular. I would have liked to have seen more focus on the original 1958 Flying V and the 1958 styled reissues though. Afterall, that's the one that stated it all. And talk about upper fret access...that style had/has it in spades. I never understood the triangular pattern for the control knobs either that were incorporated into the 1967 Flying V and most of those that followed besides the 1958-styled reissues. Cheers!

Dude....you made me laugh! Fun demo and post! Greetings from Hollywood California. AND I SUBSCRIBED to your channel!
#3 100% the best! But the best one of all time is the 2014 Gibson Flying V 120 model in white. If I could make one change to it I would add the Flying V custom inlays to the 120!
I did not! I traded it to a very close friend of mine for recording equipment. I just contacted him 2 days ago about buying it back and he just sold it to someone a few days before I called. I was gong to buy it back to do those mods to it! I am on the lookout for a husk now.
It surprising that the Modernistic series didn't take off in '58, as huge, pointy fins were popular on cars, and space age styling was on all kinds of things, including appliances. I prefer the '56 V. I have an Epi '58 V in gloss Olive Drab Green, the Original Collection V, and a Reverend Volcano V in Silverburst. All are cool in their own right.
Best review of a Flying V. I’ve seen in a while. I hate that finish option though it’s a beautiful instrument. Just personal taste. That pickguard is plain stupid looking. The section between the pickups should extend the full length of the pickup. There is a visual feeling of incompleteness. I love the stair step design though. It’s what I had to do with mine to get the proper string height and tail low enough to create pressure to keep strings on the bridge. I love the way it sounds. I disagree about this guitar needing hot pickups. With modern high gain amps, pushing the front with High Output pickups is unnecessary. Make the amp work. HO pickups into high gain amps create muddy signal. I’m currently using a similar output pickup setup (different brands though) into a Mesa dual rectifier and mine has never sounded better. Gibson should purchase their caps from Antique Electronics and use their new MOD oil in paper caps. Makes a difference between that and a ceramic disk. Especially at this price point. Using a $4 retail cap bought in a lot isn’t going to increase the cost of the guitar that much. Using the Chinese switch and jack is totally Unsat. Period. FWIW the pots are Bourns low Frictions, just rebranded. That’s a plus. I don’t mind the 3 piece body but for that finish and price for production guitar, quit being cheap Gibson and make the body right 2 piece with the grain aligned at wing angle. It’s only two 21” x 8” boards. Not 3. Wish the TKL case came with a combo lock My favorite V version? 67 style body Modern headstock 58 electronic layout and plates In Sparkling Burgundy (Gibson’s Candy Apple Red and most famous in the ES lines) Your playing was quite tasty as well Was the Exploder you reviewed weight relieved? Great video! =) I own 10 guitars and this Gibson Flying V Antique Natural is my favorite by far! I think they did change some things for this '2019' line of guitars. My brother also owns the Flying V (and Explorer), he bought his in 2019, I bought mine in 2022. The color of his is different, it is a bit darker, slightly reddish, like the one in your video, mine really has that light brown natural wood color. The headstock of his V is old style with logo on the big white trussrod cover, nothing on the head itself. The latches on his case are a bit flimsy, mine are bigger and more robust. Like you his has 4 on the front 1 on the back, mine has 3 on the front 1 on the back, and my case is not rounded at the bottom, it is straight and the studs are further apart. Weird....
I thought you might be on drugs when you made the video. Now that I hear you say that this guitar should come stock with higher output pickups, you’ve cleared all doubt. All you need now is the alien teeshirt that says, “Take me to your dealer.” 👽 💨
Tough question. If I had to choose it would be the Explorer. Mainly by design. The V certainly has its place and it's distinct sound, but there is something about the Ex...
@@bellezzaguitars7155 Thanks for your view. I tried both in a shop recently and, though I have been wanting a V for a while, I kind of had more bond with the Ex (although I was not into the shape at all). I must say that it is now growing on me.
'58 body style, only ! The '67 body / neck area looks horrible ! Just hideous. It looks like a bolt on import . They '58 style is The look I think "makes" the Flying V what it is supposed to be .
I have to Flying V98… a wonderful mix of original and 67 specs… I just wish the neck was chunkier, but it’s okay… bad ass guitar (though, admittedly, I modded the hell out of it)… 🤘

Informative, well-detailed, and highly entertaining for guitarists and non-guitarists alike! Fantastic video.

Fantastic review. Best one of this guitar on RUclips!
It's the best!!!!🎉
That was the best in depth review of the V I’ve seen. Amazing visuals too. Thnx so much. I’ve been on the fence for a while.
Incredible review of this awesome guitar. Thank you for taking the time to break it down as much as possible, and in an entertaining way 👍

Very nice intro & song!!!!
I prefer the '67 style. Fantastic video! Very in depth! From one V owner to another, great job!

Nice! Been waiting for this one. Awesome intro
Man you rock. Just discovered your Channel and I am now very subscribed. I know I need a Flying V, but not sure a so "antique" one.

Probably 1 or 2, the tremolo bar would be cool, n probably looking for under $400 because that is registered price. ,:-0
I really love your videos man! So much work you put in there but they are really entertaining to watch. Great job! Thanks for that.
