The sound of that Strat just made me go “wow”. I’ve spent countless hours listening to Jimi Hendrix at Woodstock, the sound of this guitar is etched into my brain / spirit / soul.
Joe is a real treasure. Fantastic player and heavily involved in charitable organizations. He also has a good sense of humor which is much appreciated.
I have to concur, Jimis' whole set at Woodstock is a sonic miracle. His "Improvisation" from the end of Purple Haze until the dying notes of Villanova Junction is the most sublime guitar playing I've ever seen/ heard. The sounds he created off the cuff for that performance are unparalleled!. Peace.
That "improv" is the greatest example I can think of which shows a musician at one with their instrument. It's not just his total and utter command of the guitar that's incredible but the depth of feeling and emotional content of the music. It's just so devastatingly beautiful,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,it can't be put into words!. Peace.
@chriswright4677 He was without doubt the most gifted artist of the 20th century!. He was/is a 10/10 in every department. He was so humble with it too, boy do we miss him!. Peace.
Joe has great guitar wisdom, then I read the comments and wondered is people even listen to what he said! Not on this video! Makes me feel happy and makes me want to be great on the gear I can afford. Great post! Love the positive posts and the lack of negative posts.
😇 It's a blessing Joe to be mentioned in the same category so kudos to you from all of us whom love you...❤ Joe is today and Jimi is yesterday...Leave it at that. ❤ Cheers from Lido Isle, Newport Beach, CA. 🌊
Thank you for sharing with us Joe. I have learned a lot following you. I have been around guitars my whole life but never paid much attention except to my brother's 2 LPs and his Ovation😂. He was teaching me how to play but I was 8 and wimpy, couldn't get past the pain to build up tougher skin on my fingertips. I was in love with his cream/white LP Custom.
Calls to mind a "Little Wing" vibe on the Strat noodling. Nice. And some of the slower tempo arpeggio playing on "Room Ful Of Mirrors" jam hearing from the V. Also very nice.
Love these videos from nerdville. Love his stories from the road. You should write a book “stories from the road” or “stories of the guitar safari” I would love to read something like that
I have a really great Custom Shop reissue from 2000 of this '67 Flying V and it's not only visually spot on, I can hear here that it sounds extremely close to the original too (... minus my playing - blaming sausage fingers cough cough) 👍
I know that Joe isn't a strat guy anymore for quite some time but something special always happens when he picks up one as it seems to push him a little bit more and it exaggerates the dynamics and articulation of his playing. Probably also engages his muscle memory from his young and more hot-headed blues shredding days.
Wow that looks awesome with the Stinger.....I wonder if Santa's gonna bring me one this year? 🎅 I'll more than likely get a Flying Knee than a Flying V
I’ve actually played one of Hendrix’s Flying V’s - it’s in a vault next to the London Hard Rock Cafe. It’s black and obviously it’s a lefty so as a “righty” I couldn’t play much. It still had his original strings on it. Super cool.
At 6:14/6:15 mark what is that he is playing there? Is sounds so beautiful and I’ve heard other people play it before in guitar or amp demos but I can’t ever seem to figure it out.
The most famous REGULAR user of one of these, as his main guitar was to me Wally Bryson of RAspberries fame. His may be in the R and R hall of fame these days.
Joe, did I hear you say all humbuckers are great?? Man, could we see you put some Duncan Pegusus pickups in that V and be Joe and the Djentlemens Blues Band????!!!??? Come on, "You Can Do It Man."
The sound of that Strat just made me go “wow”. I’ve spent countless hours listening to Jimi Hendrix at Woodstock, the sound of this guitar is etched into my brain / spirit / soul.
Just a Strat, 010-038, into a Marshall, and a Dunlop fuzz and wah. Right?
turned up to 8.5
@@bluevd12 Out of 10, on the Marshall?
"Don't get fixated on the detail" - best advice ever. Keep rocking Joe.
He's a bore
“Don’t get fixated on the details”--says the guy with one of the biggest vintage guitar collections on the planet.
He says after taking careful note of the serial number being upside down
@@hammill444100% don’t get fixated on the details joe, get a harley benton and just play
I understand, but who would want a Strat with three positions instead of five?
It is always a delight to see this man playing.
"His playing moves me" - said no one, ever.
Needs lighter strings. 11-52 is harsh. 10-52 or even 10-46 are smoother and less need for attack.
Joe is a real treasure. Fantastic player and heavily involved in charitable organizations. He also has a good sense of humor which is much appreciated.
Joe is already a Living Legend of the Blues ! I am envious what it must be like to play those Hendrix licks so Faithfully ! A Lucky Fellow indeed !
I have to concur, Jimis' whole set at Woodstock is a sonic miracle.

Correct on every thing you said 👌

That’s the triple truth, Ruth!! I’ve adored Villa Nova Junction for years, his guitar is just alive. Hendrix is untouchable, always will be.

Great content and great guitars. Thanks Joe ✌️🤘🇦🇺

People will always hate on others, but better for the happier ones like us😄
It's healthy to hear pragmatic advice about guitars and gear. Thanks Joe 😎
Both sound great. Thanks for sharing these gems.
The strat is the one, sounds amazing
Thank you so much for putting out these videos. So great to hear an amazing guitarist telling stories and just playing around.
Good to hear Joe give Wishbone Ash a shout. Andy Powell is THE man
Joe's comments are just as good as his playing. What a guy!!
Joe that 69 Strat is special!! Loved the Hendrix vibe you played
Always enjoy you and your collection!
Joe is a champ! what a great guy and fantastic guitarist...
Thanks for sharing Joe, great to see these wonderful pieces!
😇
It's a blessing Joe to be mentioned in the same category so kudos to you from all of us whom love you...❤
Joe is today and Jimi is yesterday...Leave it at that. ❤ Cheers from Lido Isle, Newport Beach, CA. 🌊
That flying V sounds fantastic 🔊🎶, long live the late sixties 🎶🎉☮️
That Strat is gorgeous
Just caught his show last Saturday at the Fabulous Fox in St. Louis...true showman with some real chops
Holy mother that strat! How clean it is.
One of your best tones!!
You are a very modest fellow Joe.
My favorite “big head” strat tone of all time is anything from Ritchie Blackmore I love the fat bridge pup tone he always had
Yes!His black 68 strat on Made In Japan is the best strat sound ever!Nothing comes close.
Joe, please write a song using this strat and for this strat. It will be awesome!
Stellar tones. STELLAR.
⭐💯
You NEED to record with that Stratocaster. It sounded amazing. To my ears what a Stratocaster is SUPPOSED to sound like.👍😁

That Strat sounds unreal!
Mr. Bonomassa, you’re a phenomenal guitar player. Thank you for surviving the trolls….
I have a 1968 strat. These were the best fender has ever made in terms of craftsmanship and playability. Not to mention Hendrix played one.
My 82 Strat with add ons sounds the best.
Sounded like Joe was gonna play Jimi’s “Hey Baby” on that V for sec, his collection is unbelievable!
Joe man I love your sound.
Calls to mind a "Little Wing" vibe on the Strat noodling. Nice. And some of the slower tempo arpeggio playing on "Room Ful Of Mirrors" jam hearing from the V. Also very nice.
Flying V's are a trip. They almost sound like archtops to my ears. I chalk it up to the way the cavity is set up under the pickguard.
My ‘81 certainly did.
Oh my good lord...😮blown away as always Joe..my God 🙏
His demo of all the Strat's sounds is amazing 😊
Red house IOW is one of my fav hendrix live performances & tones.
What Joe said at the end reminded me of what a golfer (Le Trevino?) once said when asked about a golf club: "It's not the arrow, it's the Indian".
Love these videos from nerdville. Love his stories from the road. You should write a book “stories from the road” or “stories of the guitar safari”
I would love to read something like that
6:13 that was so beautiful, wow
Took me straight dreaming
Thanks Joe!
Never ever shitty Joe, thank you so much for sharing I really do appreciate your knowledge and collection 🎸🎸
Joe is the next blues legend . Stay Cool Bro . ✨🇺🇸🎸✨🗽🎬🇨🇦
"don't hear with your eyes" 😂. Love it!
Master Bluesman for real!!
Good Player 👍👍👍♥️♥️♥️
That Strats tone is sweet.
I have a really great Custom Shop reissue from 2000 of this '67 Flying V and it's not only visually spot on, I can hear here that it sounds extremely close to the original too (... minus my playing - blaming sausage fingers cough cough) 👍
Flying V's have a great sound...as I play mostly sitting down I'm not sure I could ever live with one though.
You're a really good one Joe.
Gibson Flying V'ls are the coolest guitar made. As a bass player, I own one. Just because.
I know that Joe isn't a strat guy anymore for quite some time but something special always happens when he picks up one as it seems to push him a little bit more and it exaggerates the dynamics and articulation of his playing. Probably also engages his muscle memory from his young and more hot-headed blues shredding days.
"Don't hear with your eyes"..... JUST A SIMPLY BRILLIANT STATEMENT
The Flying V is like everyone’s dream rock guitar. And ya that Strat is sounds just as gorgeous as it looks. Very cool collection Joe.
Perfect sitting down guitar… Just sits perfectly…
Joe here, displays the main advantage of vintage humbuckers: they twang. They have clarity, they love the volume knob.
Wow that looks awesome with the Stinger.....I wonder if Santa's gonna bring me one this year? 🎅 I'll more than likely get a Flying Knee than a Flying V
Sounds great. What amp are you using, Joe? It really sings. Love those big headstock Strats!
Killer tones here. Do we know what Joe’s plugged into? Killer playing too of course!!!
sounds like a Fender Reverb amp, no pedal. Just the guitars plugged-in
Story of Joe, i was on tour and i didnt own enough guitars so i needed another one lol
I’ve actually played one of Hendrix’s Flying V’s - it’s in a vault next to the London Hard Rock Cafe. It’s black and obviously it’s a lefty so as a “righty” I couldn’t play much. It still had his original strings on it. Super cool.
Hey Joe, were you going with that Gibson in your hand?
I'm so glad Joe is admitting at the end that Hendrix was the greatest of all time...
Then don't go to any Van Halen pages because according to the Eddie Van Halen fans Hendrix sucks!
Impressive
I think Joe buys a new guitar before and after every gig :D
Can´t buy them all Joe !!! Spare some for us
Love Joe! Go Joe!!!
Mann to see u play that bronchitis strat..omfg
That Strat in that 1st position p/u was screaming James Marshall Hendrix.
Joe wins 😎
Jimi would be like, this Cat got something too! " Music doesn't Lie" JMH
definitely had some Clapton sound in that Strat,
At 6:14/6:15 mark what is that he is playing there? Is sounds so beautiful and I’ve heard other people play it before in guitar or amp demos but I can’t ever seem to figure it out.
It's just a little chordal vamp from your B and A major scale.
That strat is staight hendrix wow
“Good enough for Hendrix … good enough for me” … epic line … I am stilling it … JB is the greatest guitar nerd ever …
Hey my name is Joe „Flying V“ Bonamassa ❤
Joe can make a cigar box with a broom handle neck sound good!
The most famous REGULAR user of one of these, as his main guitar was to me Wally Bryson of RAspberries fame. His may be in the R and R hall of fame these days.
looks like a 70s head stock
Hell yes love that Blond Baby
Joe is the best rock and roll guitar historian
Hey Joe......Have you of that young lady blues Guitarist....Maddie Parker?
Joe knows.
Isle of Wight film you get a good comparison of Hendrix on V vs Strat. I reckon he sounds better on the Strat. More defined and expressive.
That's a good cup' o Joe
Best guitarist, Jimi Hendrix. Best living guitarist, Tory Slusher.
Hey Joe where you gonna go with that Epiphone in your hand ?
strat !!!!
A collector who knows how to play.
Is this the type of V that page used on You Shook Me?
Wonder what amp he's using here?
That’s always the big question does that Strat sound that good because of the Strat or because Joe plays his ass off? Anyway, both are dope.
Does he ever play anything that doesnt sound like he ripping off someone else?
Hey Joe! You’re holding the Strat upside down! Flip it around and you’ll be higher than a crack-fiend in the Valleys of Neptune.
I was born in 67 and Ive decided I want a 67 V. Or at least a reissue. With the lyre so I can shake my hair around and pretend I'm Lenny Kravitz.
" Dont hear with your eyes" joey B's money quote on buying a guitar
69 Strat
That would be CBS era- heaven forbid!
Joe, did I hear you say all humbuckers are great?? Man, could we see you put some Duncan Pegusus pickups in that V and be Joe and the Djentlemens Blues Band????!!!??? Come on, "You Can Do It Man."
JoeB the gearhog.
Broncaster! Not for the faint of congestion
