Great insight. This needs to be sent to Team USA committee.
Team USA needs to see how not doing the small things will cost them especially going into 2028. Sadly we won’t have the big nukes of Lebron, Steph, and KD to just throw out there and bail us out of close game situations.
Edwards/Tatum headlining the 2028 team potentially concerns me. Tatum hasn’t proved he can make big shots when things are real tight in a high stakes situation. Edwards loves hero ball and ball stopping.

Tatum was actually great in the 2020 Olympics when they won Gold. What concerns me is the Center position. The guy from Duke and Bam are small Centers. They won't have AD who was the best Defensive guy on that team. Fortunately, there's still 3 years to scour for talents. But it also applies to other federations, especially when the percentage of foreign player getting drafted in the NBA is trending upwards every year. It gives less opportunity for the NBA to develop American talent.

I don't think it's fair to measure the '92 dream team against this year's team by their ability to hit 3 point shots. The game wasn't played that way back then.
If the 2024 team were to play the 1992 team I think the winner would almost undoubtedly be decided by if they were playing with 1992 or 2024 rules

The dream team beat Lithuania by 50 and they had a phenomenal 3pt shooting team (they had a great team in general). Croatia also had good 3 point shooters and good players overall and they lost by 30 twice to the dream team. I know there are people who really don't want to hear this but the dream team would wipe the floor with the 2024 US team even with 2024 FIBA officiating

In fact, I don't think the 2024 US team would be able to beat the 1991 Yugoslavian team (the winner of the 1991 European basketball cup). Croatia gained independence from Yugoslavia just before the 1992 Olympics and they played as an independent country. The next Olympics what remained of Yugoslavia (it was just Serbia and Montenegro) reached the finals and lost to the US in the finals.

This must be the best video i've watched... from an American. I agree with everything you said. I have noticed that Americans are always looking for superheroes and are valuing individuals more but they forget that basketball is a team sport. I am from Greece. Giannis is locked each time in Fiba. No matter how good you are, the defence we play overseas will stop you...unless your teammates can help. So everytime i watch a headline it is "GIANNIS LEADS GREECE"...and nobody even refers to the other players. And i'm not talking about points only, i am talking about some extrordinary defence, well placed screens, perfect assists, ability to follow the plan of the coach, adapting to his plans inside the court...NBA values individuals and physical attributes. Euroleague values that too ofc but it values the mental-mind aspect of the game and teamwork more.

Yea I hate how the media tried to use they have MJ as the reason they’d win bruh he’s 1 person 😂 and even he didn’t lead team USA in scoring overseas they played way more physical over there than even the dream team was used to that’s why their scores were lower than what they normally would average in the era of the NBA they were playing in and for the record the early 2000s was the most physical and lowest scoring era in the NBA not the late 80s early 90s idk why the media keeps trying to push that false narrative

Another banger! The only thing in the video I disagree with is the notion that this team is better or more talented than the 1992 team just because they shoot more 3's and shoot better from 3. The game has evolved to a point where the 3 point shot is way more prevalent and is way more of a focus today, and as a result of this focus there are way more players who shoot it at a high %. I don't think this makes the current team better though. This team is incredibly talented but I don't think it's that much better than 2008 or 2012, and I still would take 1992 over these guys. If this team does not have KD they could be in trouble. Regarding the title, I would argue that the American Reign already ended based on their performance in the last 2 World Cups.
You do such a great job with these videos! Best basketball content creator on youtube!

Another thing to swing things is coaching. In the exhibition games, the rotations felt more like an all star game than a playoff game. We were subbing people in and out more, not leaving in our best and most cohesive players just so everyone could have a chance to touch the ball and show off. Our bench depth is insane, but it personally felt like we relied on that to much instead of just having our best players in until they get tired like normal.

I'm a fan of this channel, but I think this video has some glaringly shallow analysis particularly regarding the dream team (which was a *way* more talented team). The problem was failing to look at the rules in '92 and how that team was more able to adapt. Those players had played against hand checking and had better more skilled bigs who could stick in the paint longer.
The players could also help minimize the variance that comes with three points shooting by shooting fewer threes (but being good enough to still have a high true shooting percentage) which meant that they could reduce the impact of luck.
Several of them could also play defense. Which - outside of Jrue Holliday, I do not trust this roster to do.
This team is better at shooting. If only they were better at *anything else*.

Drexel wasn’t good from long? What about prime time, most of those players in 92 were prime time: MJ, Pippen, Drexler, Stockton, Barkley, Ewing, Malone, the only two that were out of age were Magic and Bird, while the most important players in the present team are quite old guys, starting with the leader, you cannot compare Bron 39 years old with MJ in 1992, he was still about to make most of his championships.

So the 2024 team is better than the Dream Team because 7 players in the Dream Team couldn't shoot from outside the arc? Do you know how stupid this sounds? Is making 3s the standard for how a good basketball player is? Do you know that the NBA champions in the last two seasons shot barely 33% from the 3 in the finals? I bet that 92 team who couldn't shot wouldn't fair much worse.
    2. Do you know why the 1990s players were not great 3 point shooters? Simply because they didn't c are about 3s and therefore never trained shooting them. But they were great mid-range shooters, and mid-range shots are more difficult than 3s. I bet more than 7 players of this 24 team would not take a shot from 12 feet if left open.
    3. Athletes do not necessarily get better every decade. There's a general consensus in football (soccer) that talent in the 1990s and 2000s was much better than it is now. Look at countries like Brazil, Italy, the Netherlands, and even Spain. Their current players are nobodys as compared to previous generations. And this is not based on eye test alone, it is supported by stats. Players like Ronaldo (Brazil), David Villa (Spain), Totti, Vierri (Italy), Ruben, Van Persie (the Netherlands) had much more goal contributions than any current player of their countrymen.

The '92 Dream Team will always be the pinnacle of American basketball dominance over the world. Even while this year's squad is arguably more talented (and playing a more refined version of the game), the gap between them and the rest of the world has shrunk considerably. No team will likely ever repeat the average margin of victory at +44ppg. The '24 squad has managed a moderately impressive +10.2ppg, but that's not even close.

Since you obviously recorded this before the last two games, your analysis is spot on.
LeBron has shown that the US can bully their way into scoring. Since they're never going to play defense, they need to run up the score as much as possible by which ever means necessary. Even if that means having LeBron charge into the paint every play. And like you said, the US also needs to pretend the 3 is farther away to spread things out more (and to allow their muscle memory to take over).
