Hey everyone! I'm sorry about the audio issues. The voice over sections are quieter. Hopefully you're still able to watch the video without it being too annoying. Please let me know if it's too bad and I'll pull the video and record a new one for next week. Thanks!
This is an awesome video! I have a boring canvas cover for my Singer Patchwork and a hard cover for my 30 plus year old Bernina. I'm going to make one for my Singer. I have taken over the combination dining and living room of my condo. I could turn our third floor into a full-on craft room, but I only have a skylight for natural lighting and it's kinda lonely up there. Plus, that is where my 19-year-old cat likes to stay most of the time. Thanks for all your great video's. I look forward to each and every one. 💕
I’ve been trying to figure out a sewing machine cover for a while. I like this one. Long time ago, last time I bought a new machine, I watched a sewing show on tv and the host said you shouldn’t use the plasticky vinyl cover that comes with the machine because they hold moisture inside and it’s not good for the machine, especially if you live in humid conditions, so your fabric cover is the best. You are in the path of the next hurricane (you and Sunbear) so take care of yourself and the kitties. Hope you don’t get any damage. I’m hoping for Mom and Pop in Nova Scotia as well. What a weird hurricane season! Let us know how you’re doing if you have power. Hermine (or Ian) won’t be for a few days so maybe it will peter out.🤞🤞🤞
Hello from SW Florida. I’m so happy you enjoyed my video. Charm squares make projects like the sewing machine cover fast and easy. I like that I don’t have to coordinate my fabrics. Happy Sewing!!
I use a doublefold, 2 1/2" double fold, I sew on, then fold over and hand complete the process. Thank you Robin for the tutorial, I have been wanting to make a couple of these for my machines. You make it seem sew easy 🙂
I like to finish bindings on smaller projects by hand. For quilts I prefer to machine bind all of the way. I swear the longer I had sew the binding on a quilt the slower I go. It feels like forever 🤣
Thank you for this video. I haven't been making quilted projects for very long. Most of my binding experience has been with clothing, costumes, and non-quilted home decor items. So far, I have still been making binding decisions based on each project, whether quilted or not. 🤷♀️😉🙂🤣 Safety thoughts and wishes for you this, and every, hurricane season.
Robin, you are giving such great tips and tricks that will really help when sewing charm squares together! Great RUclips to make the quilted sewing machine cover!
All your covers are lovely fabrics. I use 2.5" binding on quilts and 2.25" on smaller items - just depends what I'm making. I just turned up the volume when the sound was quieter so not a problem. As always, have a great crafting weekend 🤩🪡🧵
Nice sewing machine cover; Ive been thinking about making one. Lots of ideas. Thanks for listing what we need and the sizes. I might make one for my other crafty friends.
I think I can do this! I'll use a piece of fabric from my stash that has multi-colored spools of thread on it. I always use double fold 2-1/2" binding. Thanks for this tutorial.
Hi Robin, what beautiful dresses for your sewing machines! I like the batik one most, perhaps I don‘t like binding. Although the soft clored charm squares are nice, too. I‘ve got some leftover jelly roll strips, maybe I turn them into a cover for my Pfaff. As always I want to thank you for your time and ideas. Greetings from Germany, Berit
Thanks Michelle. I’ve tried 2.25” but I always have a hard time covering the stitch line. I haven’t tried in a long time. I’ve improved a bunch this year and I was thinking I’d give It a try again.
The video is ok don't worry, I haven't used binding for so long so I can't tell you what I prefer. I have just taken a week of from work as I have a swollen ankle so I will be sewing a bit more and will make a few of the things I have watched you make for Christmas. I wish you a great weekend 😀
Wonderful! I love opening my sewing room door and seeing a colorful cover on my sewing machine. It also means less fabric and batting fuzz on my machines.
Yes you can do that but not everyone likes to add the binding to seams. It’s been a bit since I made the video so I don’t remember what I mentioned but you can always use a firm interfacing or the foam that people use for their tote bags when they like them to stand up.
❤thanks. I'm in the middle of trying to figure out where I went wrong with mine. I want to put an opening on the top so I can carry by the handle. Maybe a flap type so dust doesn't get in?
I think a flap for the handle opening is a great idea. You might be able to cheat a little. Make the cover. Cut out an opening for the handle. Add binding to the raw edges. Or just zig zag the opening so It doesn’t fray. For the flap you could make the it removable. Add Velcro to hold It onto the top of the cover. I’ve seen videos that have the handle opening but I haven’t seen one with a flap to cover the hole. If you don’t like the removable flap idea I think you might have to make a front and back piece. One can have the flap. Good luck. I’d love to hear how It turns out.
WiggleSquiggle! 💖 my machine has a hard cover & I rarely use it. Does this make me a bad person? 🤣 I often cut binding at 2”. (BTW, no probs with audio)😊 Thanks for the tutorial, Robin! You’re the best!
Thank you for letting me know the audio is okay Lesa. It was horrible before. I don’t use the hard cover for my Juki or the soft cover for my Brother 🤣
I’m sorry. There was an issue with the recording of this video. There was an echo voiceover part and It made that step confusing so I had to delete It. I “dropped” the lining in the cover with wrong sides touching. It’s very similar to adding a lining to a tote bag or similar item. I put the cover upside down on my sewing table. I dropped the lining in so that the wrong sides were touching. The lining would also be upside down. Meaning the top of the cover would sit on my table. I add the quilting clips all around the bottom edge to hold the lining in place. Then the video picks back up where I show the lining clipped in place. Please let me know if you need any extra information.
I recently subscribed and have been enjoying past episodes, I keep hearing you mention about scrappy word such as today, binding, could you explain what this means. Thank you.
Welcome!! The scrappy word started as a way to show who watches my videos from start to end. For me, sometimes I find It hard to leave a comment. I don’t always know what to say. The scrappy word gives everyone a starting point and allows them to join in and be part of the conversations. I was randomly choosing comments to win one of my fabric postcards. I recently change that a bit too. I used to choose random videos but now I use one video a month to draw the winning names. On the first WiP It Wednesday video of the month, if you use the scrappy word you are entered to win a fabric postcard. I roll a die and whatever number It lands on that’s the number of postcards I give away this month. I usually try to choose new members in our little community or maybe a funny comment. Sometimes it’s the first person to comment. I do save at least one postcard for those that watch the video later in the week. That was a lot of information but I hope It makes sense now. Since you made It to the end of this comment I’d love to send you one of y fabric postcards if you’re interested. Please email me your full name and mailing address. You can find my gmail address in the description box below this video. Thanks!!
I have a singer sewing embroidery/machine. Suggestions on adding a panel to cover to the embroidery part so stuff doesn't get down in the open track, attached to te seeing aching part?
I’m not sure what you mean. I don’t have an Embroidery machine. I like to tape pieces of paper together to find a shape that works for whatever I’m trying to cover. That way you can fold or tape on extra paper as needed.

Hey, Robin...I'm going to use your scrappy style for my niece's stand mixer! I think it would be so cute! Thanks for sharing!
Great idea!!
That turned out really cute!!
Thanks 🦩
Thank You for the video I learned something from you today now I know what to do with the charm packs I have. Good video and Thanks.
Awesome! Thank you!

A fun colorful cover for your singer would be awesome. You could make It reversible for the holidays.
You gave me a great idea to use a "cheater" fabric of charm squares that I have had for a while. Thanks.
A cheater fabric would be perfect for this project.

Hello from Northern California! I love this video and have my charm squares all laid out for this project. Thanks for the inspiration!
Hello from SW Florida. I’m so happy you enjoyed my video. Charm squares make projects like the sewing machine cover fast and easy. I like that I don’t have to coordinate my fabrics. Happy Sewing!!
Prayers for you and yours in Southern Florida… if you want to flee to my house, you are welcome.🙏🏻❤️
Thanks Ann! We’re waiting to see what Ian is going to do. 🤞🤞🤞

@@rsislandcrafts Someimrs I feel that way too! 😅
Love this. I need to make one 🙂 I have never had a cover for my machine and it really needs one.
I’ve been sewing for over 20 years. I’ve never had a true cover either. I’ve only had the Juki cover for a few days and I love It.
Thank you for this video. I haven't been making quilted projects for very long. Most of my binding experience has been with clothing, costumes, and non-quilted home decor items. So far, I have still been making binding decisions based on each project, whether quilted or not. 🤷♀️😉🙂🤣

Robin, you are giving such great tips and tricks that will really help when sewing charm squares together! Great RUclips to make the quilted sewing machine cover!
Thank you so much! Sometimes It may feel like I talk way too much but I want each person to be successful with their projects. Happy Sewing!!
I use 2 1/4 inch binding for everything. Live the sewing machine covers! Great way to add color to 6our sewing area.
Thanks Sue

You can do It Linda. If you use one piece of fun fabric that takes away the extra work of piecing the center. The rest is easy. Have fun!

Can’t wait to try it

Great video thank you Robin.
Thank you 🦩
Video seems just fine.
Thank you for letting me know Meloni. I wasn’t looking forward to making a new video.
Thank you ma'am 😇✨
Most welcome 😊
Such a neat cover, love it 😍😍❤
Thank you. I like the colors.
I use double fold binding and I cut it at 2 1/4 🙂 thank you for all you do ❤

@@rsislandcrafts thanks 😊
I usually use double fold binding at 2 1/2".

Thank you it is so cute sending Hugs
So cute. thank you. I think I will sew this one for my sewing machine.
Wonderful! I love opening my sewing room door and seeing a colorful cover on my sewing machine. It also means less fabric and batting fuzz on my machines.
By the way, love your tutorials.
Thank you so much.
Perfect timing!! I need to make several of these. Thank you. 💐
You’re welcome. It’s been on my list for awhile too.
Thank you.
You're welcome!
Could you have put binding around the seams it would help it stand up a little better
Yes you can do that but not everyone likes to add the binding to seams. It’s been a bit since I made the video so I don’t remember what I mentioned but you can always use a firm interfacing or the foam that people use for their tote bags when they like them to stand up.
Wiggle squiggle. 😂 I do that stitch sometimes too!
It’s the best. The actual serpentine stitch on my Juki is great but It stitches out so slowly. Plus the wiggle squiggle is more fun to sew. And say 😉
❤thanks. I'm in the middle of trying to figure out where I went wrong with mine. I want to put an opening on the top so I can carry by the handle. Maybe a flap type so dust doesn't get in?

I don’t pin this simple patchwork, I use my fingers to hold each nesting seam as I progress. I do sometimes pin more complicated designs.
I never used to pin but then my patchwork was always off. Now I pin when it’s more than a couple squares.
I use 2 half binding. Stay safe and dry.
Thanks Helen. We’re waiting to see what Ian is going to do.
WiggleSquiggle! 💖 my machine has a hard cover & I rarely use it. Does this make me a bad person? 🤣

Thank you for letting me know the audio is okay Lesa. It was horrible before. I don’t use the hard cover for my Juki or the soft cover for my Brother 🤣
For quilts I use 2.5 inch single fold binding. For smaller projects the binding size depends on the project.
That’s my normal width too. It’s just easier to work with for me. Changing the width based on each project is a good idea. Thanks.
Wanted to watch how you sew your lining on the inside as at this stage and not sure how to do this.
I’m sorry. There was an issue with the recording of this video. There was an echo voiceover part and It made that step confusing so I had to delete It.
