no stupid music, not talking like if we're idiots, straight forwards instructions. love it, 2 covers done in no times for sewing machine and overlocker.
I have been researching how to make a cover for my sewing machine endlessly. This by far is the most instructive, easy Peezy video I have ever seen. Thank you so very much for sharing this!
Fabulous ! Bought a large bolt of heavy scrap fabric at a discount/Goodwill for $6. I cut it so I could use the cool, fuzzy selvages as an edge along the bottom of this cover for my 1958 Singer 404. Gave a very nice, finished look. Now to get busy making more for my other vintage machines !!!! Also making one for my guitar amplifier. Thanks for this video.
I recently purchased a new, large Babylock Altair embroidery/sewing machine that came with a stiff heavy cover. I actually just want to make a lightweight cover, so might not use the chalk cloth, BUT I must say your directions are so crisp & clear. I'm sad this this is an old video and the printable is no longer available, but I'm pretty sure I can figure it out. Love your funny comments along the way! I'm a fan and BTW I made the quilt that you and Jenny Doan demo'd in an old RUclips. Keep on sewing!
Loved it. I've been looking like crazy a RUclips video to show me how to make a custom cover for my SE 1900 Brother embroidery machine because you can't find anything out there to fit the dimensions of the machine. I shared your tutorial with my embroidery group in Facebook because we all were desperate for a cover. Thanks for sharing.
Great project! I just bought (well in October) an industrial machine that I need a cover for. This is perfect! And thank you Rob for always being "human". The fact that you can laugh at yourself as your thread is running away means the world to me.
Hi, thanks for this tutorial. Very informative. Ive spent at least one hour trying to fathom out how to do this, only because i want to put in piping on the sides. Ive got the general idea how to. Thanks for sharing.
I am a new to sewing. I’m so excited for to get started. You take the fear out of every project you post. Thanks for your energy and excitement about every project.
Perfect timing for this project! I need to make a couple of covers for my machines and you've just made it easy to figure out the measurements. I think I may try cutting just 3 sides for the handle access on one to minimize dust as I do not carry them often. Thanks Rob!
I have been throwing ideas around for a flap of some sort to keep dust out of handle aea while machine is setting out in my house also. Plus a pocket for pedal and cord. and another pocket for the manual, as I keep it near whenever sewing. Just in case I need to check on something. But this is an excellent tutorial to get me started. Thanks for sharing. I am going to use a cheap plastic tablecloth as the fabric. I may line it and I may not.
I just made a quilted sewing machine cover, last week. It turned out so cute & I'm very happy with it, but I wish I had seen this video using chalk cloth first. Great idea! Brainstorming what I might be able to use chalk cloth on in the future. Thanks, Rob!
Thanks so much for all of your tips and being so funny and pleasant! I love my new cover! Enjoy your videos, now I will make the iron board project to have close to have close to my machine.
Try spraying your artwork with a sealer, if you want to keep it. I've been wanting to make a cover, but didn't know how to sew it up right. You make it look easy, thanks.
Excellent tutorial for a timely project, thank you Rob! I've been putting off fashioning some sort of cover for my long arm machine because I wasn't quite sure how to proceed or even what material to use, but thanks to you, now I am :)
I love this tutorial, so hard!! I love making super customizable, yet useful items for the sewing room!! Thanks for being awesome. I super seriously miss seeing your face in my feed every week though, I hope that all is ok, and selfishly, hope that it's only a temporary change.
Hi Rob, hope your trip home from Road wasn't too cold. I'm going to order this chalk cloth and pen. It looks easy and fun to make! My sister Karrin needs a cover so I'll make one and send it to her. The classes were great at Road. I'm finishing my quilts for the cancer center here in Oregon. Take care! Diana
I love the idea of using chalk cloth -- I may do that if I have to replace the cover I made or if I help someone make one for their machine. Thank you!
I am going to measure our home generator to make a cloth to keep dust free and ready with a access hole for trickle charger. A vinyl flannel table cloth would work. Then a smoker cover for storage.
HI Rob just love ❤ this for mine thank you going to get me some chalk cloth love all your tutorials they help me so much I've had this sewing machine for some year's now and just got back in sewing again I am making my first quilt I'm liking how my block's are looking again thank you! 😆
Wow this is so nice! I've made a very simple one out of a cotton print fabric but I really love the fabric you found. It would protect it so much better! :) Thanks for sharing!
Perfect timing! I need to make covers for my husband’s amp and speaker cabinet (same technique) and I should have enough to make a cover for my new machine, which didn’t come with any sort of cover 🧐
Hi Rob - One, my sister said you put on a great show at the Villages! Two, any reason why you didn't hem the fabric first before putting the pieces together? Thanks for another great video. I made your iron "slipper" for myself and my sister.
I need to see if I can modify these instructions to fit my Designer Diamond with the embroidery unit still attached, since the whole thing isn't exactly rectangular. Since I can sew with the emb unit on, though, I never take the thing off. It's HUGE and needs to be covered though!
measure the base first then measure the top. make the one side straight up and down, them angle the side with the embroidery unit to fit the base measurement make the side panels to these measurements and it should fit
Thanks! You make it look so easy. I try to make covers like that, but by the time I get to the last side, one of the pieces it's always a touch longer, and they don't match up. I feel that my pieces are square, but they don't line up. I'm very new to sewing.
Simon Panter: The fabric may have stretched as you were sewing. If it is not too much difference, just cut excess off. Just be sure other side fits whatever it has to be sewn to. Be careful as stitching and try not to pull on the fabric. As Rob said just let the machine move it. You may need to use a walking foot, it keeps both pieces of a seam even. Good Luck
Thank you for another great idea. I never would have thought of chalk cloth, but it looks almost like leather. Love the idea. Do you know if you can embroider on it?
I'm confused! If you measure 17 and add one-inch... there's room for the plug to be plugged into the side of the machine? Or how much extra do I add in order to keep my machine plugged in and still be fully covered? ❤🌅🌵
I like the simplicity of this machine cover; however, I think when I make mine with the handle hole, I will not have a large hole for the handle which will let in the dust. I plan to make the slot for the handle and a flap across under the handle with a closure of some type. I haven't decided if that will be just a button and elastic loop or velcro. I always learn something new from your tutorials and get additional ideas. Thanks. Keep up the great tutorials.
Make a flap to put over that handle opening. Just a rectangle of fabric, a little larger than the handle opening. Finished on all four sides. Sew (top stitch) one long side adjacent to the opening. With the handle of your machine down, the flap will cover the opening. When you need the handle up, just raise the flap and pull up your handle. Once in the up position, the handle, itself, should hold the flap in place. If necessary, with the handle up, just fold the flap to the underside of the cover. Thus, best of both worlds, easy to transport with cover. And, dust free covering when the machine isn't in use. Hope this helps.
Rob, where would I find the seam guide you have on your machine? I’ve been searching Amazon, but I haven’t seen one that resembles yours exactly. Thank you. 💗
Thanks for thisRob. Opened my first sewing machine today. I am looking to adapt this for amp covers. Do you know what chalk cloth might be called in the UK?
Hi Rob, I have the Brother SE1900 Embroidery Sewing machine. How do I create the cover for the Embroidery Unit? The measurements for this machine are W 13.43 x D 23.19 x H 11.54. I'm having a difficult time finding a Pattern to make a Dust Cover for it. Thank you! I enjoyed your video tutorial!! (:
Could you have created a 2 piece cover - the end caps and the body? The top and sides would be one piece. Thumbs up on both production quality and content.
Bobcat22: Thanks for reminding me of the plug. I too like to keep my machine plug in and covered. I am not sure what end caps are. But making the body and sides as one unit and then attaching top might work.
I know this project has been here for a while but I have started using my grandmother's machine and it's from the 60's and doesn't have a cover, hence why I'm making one. Unfortunately the printable seems to no longer be available, can you please fix this? I really love your videos and want to use your pattern.
wheni stop work on a prwhat stitch im using, then I use the pad somewhere else and have to search for it. lol. I would write all the information on the cover and never loose it again until i am done with the projectoject I write on a pad my stitch length and
Hey Rob, thAnks for the great tutorial. My son is a professional DJ and he has a piece of equipment that he wants a cover for. This will be perfect. I just need to get a piece of the chalk cloth. Can you advise approximately how much it took for your cover?
Loved your video but the Click here for free printable PDF does not resolve, and gets an error. I'm looking to make this for my Singer Heavy sewing machine.
Have I missed some of Man Sewing tutorials? They seemed to be to be coming out every two weeks instead of weekly. I miss seeing them every Monday morning.
no stupid music, not talking like if we're idiots, straight forwards instructions. love it, 2 covers done in no times for sewing machine and overlocker.
My husband saw me watching your video and he said ah can you make me one for my amplifier so thank you very much very well explained instructions
I have been researching how to make a cover for my sewing machine endlessly. This by far is the most instructive, easy Peezy video I have ever seen. Thank you so very much for sharing this!
Yes! Finally someone who gives printed instructions! Thank you for the simple, logical, minimalist instructions 🥰
Hello can you tell me where can I get the printable? Can you share it with me plz?
@@mariselas30 It is below the video in the description as a link. You won't see it on a smart TV. Look at the video on a computer.

This is cool! Soooo simple! I've never thought of using synthetic materials. Saves the trouble of using stabilizers, etc.
I like your enthusiasm and energy, Rob! Glad to see a man join the quilting club of the world! :)

Thanks. I’m making a quilted cover but now I have a starting point.
I have done one, with a hole on the top so I can lift my machine in its cover.
Thank youuu ROb!!

I'll have "Thanks Rob! I Love You!" written on my cover. You always have wonderful tutorials! Keep it up, please.
Excellent no fru fru cover. Perfect! Your videos are very informative and you have high quality communication skills. No bullshit... thanks
Hi, thanks for this tutorial. Very informative. Ive spent at least one hour trying to fathom out how to do this, only because i want to put in piping on the sides. Ive got the general idea how to. Thanks for sharing.
the video is very clear and helpful for making a sewing machine cover. thanks very much for sharing.
Great project Rob! My new cover will have "feed me...fabric and thread!" on the side. Thanks for a useful but fun project.
Your enthusiasm is contagious! Great project!
My cover looks awesome!! Great tutorial. Thanks
thanks from Québec i love all you do it help me tons as new sewer!!!
I love this project. I would add a pocket on one side though for the foot pedal when transporting.
That is a great idea!
great instruction! Love the flying thread!
I am a new to sewing. I’m so excited for to get started. You take the fear out of every project you post. Thanks for your energy and excitement about every project.
Thanks for doing this tutorial. I was just thinking how I need one to keep the dust off of my baby. Love your energy!!!

Nice. I have made several covers, bags, all custom fit to what they need to cover.
Fun project; I have 5 machines (3 vintage, 1 serger and 1 embroidery) to cover. Thanks for the inspiration!
Hi Rob. Great video! Thanks for making and posting!

I'd take a fabric pen and write on the back of each piece top, bottom, right, left etc. You could also make a loop to sew on the top as a handle.
Excellent tutorial for a timely project, thank you Rob! I've been putting off fashioning some sort of cover for my long arm machine because I wasn't quite sure how to proceed or even what material to use, but thanks to you, now I am :)

Love your t shirts and your video of course
So amazing 😀🤩
Thank you. I was about to make a cover with similar material. Very helpful info.
This is SO easy to make; I can trick it out if I want; or not; either way this is simple and I love that aspect. TFS.
I love the idea of using chalk cloth -- I may do that if I have to replace the cover I made or if I help someone make one for their machine. Thank you!
Understandable, thank you so much!!!

You made it so simple!
Thank you! This is a great plan.

Eu amo seus projetos!! Obrigada por compartilhar seus conhecimentos! Parabéns por seus lindos trabalhos! Um abraço aqui do Brasil. Grata Nilzete.
You remind me of Soupy Sails (white fang in your sewing machine). Great project!
Love it
You can now find Rob on his new channel " Making it fun with Rob Appell"
Super motivated to make one! Great tutorial, thank you!
Great tutorial Rob! I would probably write something like "love of my life" on my cover.....
You can not download your pattern anymore ???

Hi is the seam guide on your machine specific to your machine? Or do you think there would be so,etching similar for other machines. Thankyou.
Very cool. Love your tutorials. You have a great personality.
Love it!!
Thank you for another great idea. I never would have thought of chalk cloth, but it looks almost like leather. Love the idea. Do you know if you can embroider on it?
Where'd you go "Man Sewing"? I'm using this cover example for some of my typewriter collection .. Thanks for making this, hope you're doing well ..
This worked up so quickly with fabric on hand. Fits my Bernina 770QE. IMG_0522.jpeg

Hello, thanks for the video. What brand is that sewing machine?
How about a tour oF your sewing rm?
When I look at your PDF instructions it is blank, nothing is displayed. :(
Loved your video but the Click here for free printable PDF does not resolve, and gets an error. I'm looking to make this for my Singer Heavy sewing machine.
Would u pls make cover for serger machine too?
Thank you for the video! I could not find the PDF printable. I clicked on the link and it gives me a 404 Error. Could you please update the link :)
Lovely project Rob but what exactly is the fabric called?
Have I missed some of Man Sewing tutorials? They seemed to be to be coming out every two weeks instead of weekly. I miss seeing them every Monday morning.
How the hell did I end up here? Maybe because I searched for "custom sewing machine cover?"
Great vid!
