For the longest time I thought this game would never happen.
Me too! And not only it is happening but it is also a meaningful sequel that adds upon the already incredible source while keeping its soul intact (which is a very hard thing these days with most sequels being underwhelming or even inferior compared to their predecessors).
It is a good time to be alive
Never lose faith, brother
the old guard have been summons and thus we appear
💯
leggoooooo, sins times best times
I miss the big ass playthrough they did with the star wars factions
Yessss. Hopefully will see one with the release of the game and a mod.@@nolandewell1102
Bought a PC just to play sins
Empire at War, Sins and Stellaris are my 4X (kinda) trio.
I was around 13 when I started playing EaW and Sins, mainly thanks to yourself, SuperVaderMan and Timpedia.
Thanks for keeping the train rolling, Shack.
We at stellar Parallax (STA3, AOTF) Are 100% planning a mod for Sins 2 so stay tuned! ;)
Consider that Stardock CEO Brad Wardell said that Sins II is built from the ground up to allow for campaigns, and that a future update/DLC will have a singleplayer campaign. Think about the possibilities for modders to make use of that. A Dominion War campaign could be so sick.
A sequel that is just the previous game but better. For a game like Sins that’s all I could really ask for. No need to radically change the formula, just refine it and add that which the community already enjoys.
Personally, the biggest little detail is the turrets. I love seeing each weapon be physically modeled and active, turning and firing at targets.
I love how shack said he was gonna build the experimental lab then he built the secret weapons lab 😂
For those questioning how the game is any different to Sins 1, without watching more than 2 minutes of the video..
1) Ships are no longer restricted to 4 ability slots, there are now Item slots (ships have 4, titans have 8)
Starbases and Planets also have items you can choose on a whim
2) Some items require Exotics, a new resource type that can be gained by ship kills / derelict captures, or by making them in mid-game via processing structures (which will be fully moddable btw, this is massive, no longer are we restricted to 3 resource types, we can have Dozens)
3) Multiplayer drop in / drop out support with full replay features
4) The game runs far smoother, 64bit engine and proper multicore support. You can now have thousands of ships without your machine breaking a sweat. This also means mods won't crash after reaching the memory usage limit that Rebellion had, at 3.6GB, there's now no limit.
5) Moddability: Its now insane. The game has been built by modders, for modders. Modding features are requested and considered on the discord in real-time, this game has more potential than any other space RTS out there at the moment. You want 150 different ships buildable in Each faction? Done.
If you want to stick to Rebellion because "It doesn't look different enough", that's completely fine. We'll continue to enjoy making full overhaul mods on it without you 😘
Oh we'll get it no worries, a strategy gamer will never be the master of his own curiosity. But comparing that with what is coming out on the space strategy genre, yeah very heavy sale on this one. When it drops to a tenner, it will have enough patches and free mods from you guys for us to enjoy. 😘
Well, I understand with adding units and possibly new factions is your things, I'm unsure with the removal of the abilities and replaced with Item that require the new Exotic resource but experimenting with new mechanics is okay. I just hope when the mods come around, they will be easy to download and those involve massive resource multipliers and a near unlimited unit and building cap with being able to make systems with hundreds of planets to colonize to create a massive empire I want to have a blast playing this sequel.
Thanks for taking the time to type this out, friend!
That is still not a new game though, its more Sins of a Solar Empire Remastered which is also fine but to call it a whole new game when 90% of it, including the sound track, is the same is just misleading.
Still going to get it though as its still going to be great
I mean all this comment does is justify not buying it for like 2+ years after release, no point buying what is just a skeleton hanging on hoping other people do a load of free work to make it better than a game released nearly 20 years ago. Especially if we are expected to pay a full game price for the privilege of waiting for the modding community to actually add any depth
They better bring back the halo, Star Wars, and Star Trek mods!!!
Halo one is already in the works for 2
@@Cpt_Graftin Sins of the Prophets 2 is currently in the works for Sins: Rebellion, there are currently no plans for Sins 2.
Anyone else shouting at the screen to build a refinery and mines?
Me.
in sins 2 they take up a civilian orbital build slot, not sure if you know. it often feels like it really cramps progression, just my opinion anyway. there is a mod you can get already for sins2 that removes that and then mines are 'free' (from a slot pov) and i quite like it. the way they've set it up (without the mods) it feels like a lot of the time you cant spare the slot for orbital mines
(i just realized you guys probably meant the surface mines on the planets / asteroids... derp my bad lol)
@@S0VERP0WERED and this is why i am glad the devs made it possible to mod it from the start
Biggest elephant in the room is "would there be a campaign" - because that was one single drawback of Sins 1 that kept the game from drawing in the playerbase numbers it should have based on how good the game was.
music alone bring me back nostalgic memories
There's a comment here that's missing a lot of features so I'm just gonna post a TLDR of every significant added feature/change I'm aware of (this list is non exhaustive and gameplay focused)
Complete UI overhaul with a fleet ship order menu that puts ships into construction from any available yard and sends them to a fleet automatically
Orbital Mechanics for planets creating new phase lanes and removing old ones. Structures can now be rotated around a planet to account for new phase lane connections as a result
Items for capitals, titans, planets, and starbases on top of the existing skill trees for any ships that had them before (capitals titans) planets cant do specializations from rebellions anymore but the items system replaces that for them giving more flexibility in specs
Combat mechanics overhaul makes all missiles no longer visual only they are now part of the actual combat system. you can intercept torps and other missiles with other more tanky vessels weapons can miss striking other targets.
Weapons have proper firing arcs for individual weapons as opposed to the banks system we had previous making positioning even more important then before.
Races have gone through even more differentiation. Tec Loy get garrisons that build from idle shipyards and Vasari now capture their starting planet manually as examples
Neutrals have more complex behaviors there's a mini space empire in one of them that actively attempts to conquest nearby planets to expand an empire
Finally there's the graphical overhaul obviously but it looks really good imo
Overall it looks extremely promising and looks like it brings quite a bit to the table. Personally I'm waiting for the reviews on steam before I decide to buy it or not but I'm hopeful after having to refund Homeworld 3
Can't wait for this live, and Star Trek Armada 4 being built on it :)
i think they stop making mods but we can hope right XD
4:50 Man the soundtrack is so good.
Sounds the same as in the first game.
all the voice lines seem like og sins 1 voices but honestly i'm here for it. it's just the right hit of nostalgia without really affecting anything, and they were always good imo
ive been waiting to see this game on steam special since i hear they did hire modders to made the game so who knows perhaps down the line some of the old mods from sins 1 will return
Not actually a difference between sins one and sins two: choosing the starting cap ship, you could always do that in base sins. i think shack is remembering the mods where you had to research the other cap ships
I was a bit apprehensive due to the change in art style, but seeing it in action I'll be getting it. Looks really fun.
Oh I cannot wait for future Star Wars and Star Trek videos from shack when this game comes out and the modders go crazy.
So many awesome memories playing Sins, I hope 2 is just as fun.
Can't wait. The first game is in my precious memories.
@3:00 You were always able to choose your first Capital Ship, and it would normally be free. The only exception is the Flagship. When you had that Victory Condition on, the Flagship would be the Battleship of the faction, and it would have unique (to its faction counterpart) abilities.
As someone who played SOASE since before the original expansions (Trinity), I am definitely getting this on Steam when it comes out.
Sins is always worth getting back into
I love how the first game was so good they barely changed anything for this one
You can add your fleet to top left bookmark bar (right click) and build ships from there without looking for planets. Newly built ships auto rally to the fleet. Such a time saver
also the music is nostalgic af
I'm super excited for this game and for all the mods that can happen now. It's always been one of my favorite Space RTS's.
3:16 In the previous version you could also choose the initial (free) capital ship.
This game looks beautiful. I love the first game and how detailed it was/still is. I cant wait to buy it when it comes out.
Thank you for sharing this preview.
the trade ships remind me of the cryo trays in homeworld 1. please tell me i'm not the only one who sees it
32:36 I personally can't wait for Sins of the Prophets (the halo total conversion) to come in with the new graphics and engine.
Always loved that classic TEC battleship design ever since I first heard of Sins by way of Gameinformer magazines many many moons ago 😊
Well, this video made me want to play, so I am currently installing Sins1.
The new game looks very similar to the old. And to be honest, that's fine with me. I like the orbiting mechanic and like Shack said, the mods are where the real replay value will be.
Makes me want to play sins again.
3:17 wait, but that’s always been the same tho…
Thank you for sharing this game with us.
I was on the fence about this game but I do like what they have going on. Keep playing shack! Much love!
cannot wait to get into multiplayer with ppl like this
The important question when can we expect the Star Trek Armada 4 mod?
I really hope for a ST Armada 4 mod!
Looks great! I never took the time to learn the first one. :(
I don't want to admit how much I listened to this soundtrack, I still find it so good!
So excited to see what the modding community does witht his game , especially with mods like Star Wars Interregnum and Star Trek Armada 3!!!!!!
SOOO HYPED FOR THIS GAME!
Hope the modding is as simple as in Sins of a solar empire so that we get all the great mods for the big Scifi universes again here too :)
I hope one day the creators of sins of the prophets create a new version for this game. Not sure if that’s something they are interested in doing considering the work they put into the mod for the original game but I do really hope they do.
I also remember that building tons of trade stations was hella OP since you got such income, it become nearly impossible to run out evenif you bought the resources from the market
I discovered Shack about a decade ago by looking for modded Sins videos. So this feels like coming full circle almost.
Star Trek Armada 4 some day, anyone?
I remember I liked playing Sins 1 modded, especially the Star Gate mod.
The Orbiting mechanic is it just a rotation of the map or do the planets actually change distance relative to each other
this is making me want to get back into sins... also looking forward to any star wars mods for it
Would love it if the mod author for Sins of the Fallen and Fall of Kobol brings it to sins 2. Loved that mod pack almost as much as the Star Wars mods.
Do carrier ships (not capital ships) have weapons in addition to their strike-craft in sins2 or research that would allow for weapons?
Can't wait... I grabbed mods for the original.. Stardock, for real thank you.
@10:39 Bold of you to think Sins veterans have every stopped playing Sins
in sins 1 you could choose your first capital ship, the only time that wasnt the case was if you played ith the mdoe/map effect where you had to keep that one capital ship alive.
Very cool, might wait till theres some mods for it though
Sooo, any bets on how soon the first mods start coming in?
I'm of two minds.
1. This looks awesome and the new features plus better modding capability is really good. The nostalgia is high.
2. Despite some new features/changes, it just a new Sins 1 and not much else, even with the new features.
So I'm not sure. I'll probably get it just for the various mods that will eventually come along, but maybe not for the game itself. Might change my mind on that later when it comes out.
Looks a lot like the original it with upgraded graphics. Battlestar Galactica conversion was my favorite, hope someone makes a new one.
Looks really good. 👍
I sort of wish they did more with the planets, maybe even have terrestrial armies and settlements that could fight/influence the surfaces.
enjoying this way more than the HW 3 run!
I was at school when the the original came out. Still play that and the mods because off you and authors.
Made a map from the The X3-AP universe for the eve mod and played it with the sgi mod hàlf hour ago
sins one let you turn the alien colonizing battleship into a worldkiller that would turn habitable worlds into credits, easy way to remove a planets resistance when your on the war path
First impressions are this seems to lean more towards a Remaster rather than the sequel. Looks fantastic though and can't wait to play it.
I did always feel that the phantom enemy the Vasari were running from were going to be the cataclyst for the sequel. Amazing lore for a lack of a campaign in the traditional sense
Ohhh I'm so excited for this game I have put a stupid amount of time in this with my brother's and dad!
cant wait, was a big fan of the first one.
wow this is over-due!
I love Sins, still an active player and regular modded, and I am very excited for the possibility of Star Trek Armada 4.
I don’t feel like this should be called Sins 2 though. It should be a new edition of the base game, or something similar, as I don’t feel like there’s enough to call it a sequel.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m not criticising too much, to me if feels more like a perfecting of the 1st game.
Oh I can't wait
Awesome 👏
I still play Sins on a kinda regular basis. At least a few times a year. :)
i hope im still alive when a hq stargatemod for this comes out, hopefully with all factions this time
I really enjoyed the Eve-Online mod but late game the system struggled with. Which would of been authentic to large fleet battles.
Before this one releases, gotta go back and play more STA3. Don't know if they'll do a 4, but it would be so cool on the new game
i'd just like to see the smaller ships STRAFE enemy ships and fly around instead of sitting a LINE.
Cpt. Shack we need another Genesis Alpha one Series! Feed more clones to critters! ps. Need to see the Capital ship in action!
Can't wait for more sins and modded sins
this looks very similar to the first game, which isn't a BAD thing but I would like to see new ships and such-like
Can’t wait for the starwars mods
I want more!
i had no idea there was one in the works i recently came back to rebellion and just playing it unmodded just on a whim then now about a day and a bit there is info on a second game i too am bad
Can't wait to see you do mutiplayer in the future.
Shack goes on & on about the graphics, but I'm jamming to the OG music in the game.
Also, it seems like you don't have to build mining stations for your basic resources? Either that or Shack doesn't notice it.
I've been impressed with some of the innovation
but tbh, I feel like I'll be waiting on mods
Ah, hello my old friend
This This makes me happy
cant wait for Trek mod
Welp star trek armada 3 devs got some work to do when this releases
Oh i cant wait for it to come out it's been too long since iv played it since Dec 4 of last year with only 415 hours
Can’t wait for 5 players vs the near unbeatable Borg cube…
i wonder would it be possible to mod in star wars and 40k ships because if so i'm all in
3:19 What do you mean "unlike the original game"? You could choose your capital ship in the original SoaSE.
When can we get a Homeworld mod?
The star trek mod was awesome for this game.
Sins of a Prophet 2?
Will the mods be workshop support on steam or will they be like sins 1.
There are both enough changes and not enough weirdly. Like, I am still gonna play it. I have loved sins ever since I watched your videos on it when I was younger. However, hearing some of the old game sounds and music with the new UI and updated systems and graphics is a bit off-putting. However, the game looks good, and the devs are big supporters of the modding scene. So, I will gladly support this game.
Yes.
