While not on your healthy-eating list, we enjoyed walking from that RV park to the Krispy Kreme Doughnuts -- hot and fresh :) The subway that goes under the river to get to NYC also was useful.

    • @patm2468

I haven't RV'd there since I live about an hour away. 😂 FYI - there are lots of areas north and west of where you are that have nice parks that are a lot closer than the PA campground. Additionally, NJ Transit is really good in many parts of north Jersey. There are train lines that go all the way out to Hackettstown, NJ (NW Jersey) that can get you into the city easily. You can take a train from the Princeton area (Central Jersey) into the city in just an hour too (express train). And so on. Transit is almost 24/7 in the JC area. Jersey City is a high end area due to the proximity to NYC. The $170/night is actually really good for the area ($250/night is the average if you weren't already aware).
Some terminology: NJ - we just say Jersey. Everyone knows what you mean in this area.
Jersey City doesn't have "New" in the name, just Jersey (see prior sentence)
When going to NYC from Jersey, you would say you are "going into the city" (we refer to Philadelphia as Philly)
      I hope you have fun!

Yup. We've been there 3 times. We call it a towing Sphincter Pucker Factor of 10. We had one tow where literally we had to get out of the tow vehicle, stand in the road, and stop traffic or we were going to miss the turn onto Marin Blvd. and go into the Holland Tunnel. We had saved some champagne for a nice toast at dinner that night. We chugged it as soon as our wheel chocks were placed...

FYI, be careful of driving with your seat so close to the steering wheel. I'm short, but I try to keep my seat adjusted so that my arms are more straight to reach 10&2. The scary thing is that if the air bag goes off and you're that close, it can do severe damage to you. 😢

Signs said no vans allowed but it did not say no campers allowed, we thought for sure Secret Service was going to pull us over. Do not take your camper over the George Washington bridge in New York. We decided to stay on base in New Jersey and took the train into New York. It was so easy to do and saved us the stress of driving and parking. We did drive one time to Liberty Park and took the Ferry to see the Statue of Liberty 🗽 and that drive was stressful just in a truck. People would walk right out in front of you on a green light, lots of construction, and it was not the best neighborhood until you got to Liberty Park. I’m happy we experienced it both ways train/truck but definitely could not drive our home down there. You are braver than us!

New sub here - thanks for the video that make me smoosh the big red button. :) I'm in Delaware (just across the bay from your starting point in this video) and have had Liberty Harbor RV Park in my list as potential places to stay. Would love to hear a follow-up in the future on your experience there. I have a Class B so my drive in would be a bit less stressful.

I have no idea how I’m gonna repay y’all for showing me some of NY. My van said “No Way!”

Oh you'll love the upcoming videos Mary! But you should really take your van to NYC like we did in 2019 with ours! 😊

By the way, it's just "Jersey City" or "JC". Not "New Jersey City" lol

How does your Ram compare to the Ford you had?

    • @IreneIronTravels
      @IreneIronTravels  2 месяца назад

Its similar in some ways... like 1ton, diesel engine... but its also quite different being a dually and the ford was a Tremor package. But the RAM dually really handles the 16k 5th wheel much better. We like the firmer seats of the RAM better.... But still miss the FORD!

Props on your mad driving skills. I live outside of Atlantic City and I get anxiety driving there. Take me into the mountains all day long but city driving makes me nervous. You did a fantastic job. 🙌🌇

We went to Liberty Harbor with our old 43' toyhauler, truck, and suv. We managed to fit both vehicles in our spot. We went through the same process of considering TTs, HHs, and even hipcamp. Liberty Harbor was our pick as well.
Traffic was much heavier than what you guys had and tucked, but we managed.
We had a great time exploring NYC.

Been to Liberty Harbor RV. You were lucky it was so empty. The time I was there with Fantasy, we could pass the Grey Poupon all around the campground without once leaving coaches. 😂

😂😂 I know what you mean! It was quite enjoyable the first day with all that elbow room… then the neighbors all rolled in! 😂
