You obviously haven't heard a Cosworth DFV in full cry. Back in the day nobody particularly liked the Mazda. It was a great looking car but the noise was a painful screech.
@@housey4297 I disagree completely but it does depend on the chassis. Have a listen to the gold Warsteiner Arrows in this clip from 0:15 onwards. Turn it up. If you can't hear the harmonics then you're missing out. ruclips.net/video/gSdAjytXwW4/видео.html Those are classic Cosworth harmonics. I was brought up on the engines of the 1970s: Cosworth DFV, Ferrari 312B and T, BRM V12, Matra V12 and Alfa Romeo flat 12.
The C11 is incredible it sounds like a WW2 Fighter Plane as you can see as well there were some great Porsche 962 in this Race they won everything in the 80’s but they couldn’t stand up with the mighty Beast Sauber Benz C11.It was in it’s own Class back then. What a legendary Beauty
Yeah, it is. Mercedes didn't do that much to these engines after they changed to the M119. The turbos were not that big to start with but with two of them and some mods made from the original production engine, 720-730 hp was possible and 820 in qualifying (practice, as it was known then). Group C was a fuel allocation formula so maximum power was not the object. Fuel efficiency and reliability were.
Is there a schedule or something like that where I can find out when events with cars like this are out on Spa? I really want to see and hear them in person!
Well the crossplane inline 4 is one half of a V8 soo, and the V4 aswell if I should say. It's pretty amazing that you can make a V8 sound from 4 cylinders only, big bang firing orders are cool
The Sauber handed the Mazda it's ass just like it did in the day. The Mazda was MILES off the pace of the Sauber and the sooner the fanboys do some research and realise this the sooner we can get all this adulation for a 1 hit wonder finished with. The Sauber was THE Group C car, the Mazda one of the also rans bar 1 Le Mans victory where is was still 10 seconds off the pace in qualifying.
@@arjunraj3977thanks, I’m well aware. Being a 57 year old and having been trackside in era I am trying to help the ignorant understand what THE car of the era was. Be REALLY clear, it wasn’t the Mazda.
Has to be the most beautiful combination of power, performance and design I've ever seen.
You forgot the sound. :)
0:22 the sounds of triangles and cylinders side by side
the sound combination of the wankel and the merc V8 is just unbeliveble
this engine Damn! and that flyby on the 767 hurts. what an engine what a machine!
bram schippers the two best sounding cars mixed into one sound. Orgasmic

@@thethirdman225 Totally agree with you on the Mazda, it was fascinating and interesting, then tiresome. Having said that a DFV is hardly melodic.

That overtake gave me the chills
The sound transitions just at the right time
Dang. 767 and c11 on the same track. C11 almost going all out. One of the best videos. Lemans sucks nowadays.
That damn race car is so simple in design but is an absolute beauty
Peter Sauber designed beautiful cars.
0:19 sounds so god damn good
YES. A balance between a 4 rotor screamer and a bassy V8.
1:30 probably the best scene ever....
Fire breathing monsters. Nothing compares to this.
Lovely V8 rumble at idle. Most V8 racing cars rev so highly at idle.
That's the Mazdas idle actually, you can barely hear the Sauber.
This C11 Benz is the King
You can keep your 787B (even if it does sound nice) this is the best engine noise period.
It sounds like amplified thunder.
i agree, though this would sound kinda silly on an f1 car where screaming engines such as the 787B would kinda suit it.
Ashley who cares about f1

sauber and 787 side by side... WOWOWOWOWOW. i love you man.
Michael McKinley 767b. Most people make this mistake.

Continental GT3 maybe.

Michael offcourse. :)

Were these Sauber racing when Mazda won Le Mans???
how many of these cars were produced??
Yes, they raced together in 1991. And 6 were built, according to my sources.
did that merc just stomp on a mazda r26b? :O
mobius CDXX
the mazda wasnt racing, he was just driving. i think when both drivers go to the edge, the cars would have been similar, speedwise.
+MTP 1337 aah gotcha. makes sense relooking at it. i forget they can go slow too! and still sound amazing :D
the C11 was maybe the fastest prototype at la mans but the mazda was more reliable and efficient
rotor *cough* reliable *cough*...
fsgRex
the rotary engine in the 787b was reliable.
0:36 looks like blade shaves the asphalt hair :D
Wunderschönes Auto !
0:23 Mazda? What Mazda?
767b o 787b son iguales todavia no los logro distinguir ;)
The Mazda that won Le Mans!!!
They should do a race with Sauber C9, Sauber C11, and Sauber c291 to see who is the greatest.
c11 P1, c9 P2, c291 just slides into nothingness compared to the other two
MrGameFreak The C291 wasn’t very successful.
Is there a schedule or something like that where I can find out when events with cars like this are out on Spa? I really want to see and hear them in person!
Paul Stevenhaagen Silverstone Classic summer 2017...most of the Group C cars will be there.
thanks, even though I live in Holland I'll have a look if it's possible for me to make it there
Paul Stevenhaagen kijk eens op de site van groupc racing. De link staat in de info onder de video.
The best sound :)
Crossplane V8, V4(Aprilia RSV4) and crossplane Inline 4(Yamaha R1). Sound similar because of firing order and angles

Why you named the vid '' best video in the world''?
Why didn't you!! :D
0:20 First I think the Mazda was fast...but than came the Mercedes :-D
The Mazda wasn't fast.
The Mazda was fast, but it lacks torque. That's why the C11 flew by the Mazda real fast
This Sauber is 9 seconds slower tan GP2. Really fast car.
MagicMiura on a straight line this c11 would kick gp2 and f1 asses
@@brammetje981 Not important. If you want straight line speed, there are lots of things that go faster than a Sauber.

They werent there on spa classic 2016... :(
Wooow that Benz sounds like a Corsair WWII Warbird
At 0:27 the C11 takes over a little noisy mazda like a rocket
Benz V8 power
The Mazda just became quiet
Top speed 249 mph? How do you know that? It was never raced on a circuit where that was a possibility.
On the official Mercedes website they also say it can do 249 mph.

Just google Sauber C11 and go to the Mercedes site in the list.

Skip to 0:20 to watch a Mazda get decimated.
If you observe carefully you'll understand the Mazda was deccelarting for the C11 to do a flyby cause the driver was doing a hotlap
basically the mazda backed off at the hill so the Mercedes could get more space and speed through the hill and the mazda wasn’t even racing anyway.
Game for the Merc, stayed for the spinny dorito.
