This game just feels completely out of this world, so disconnected from reality but also grounded in the world silent hill portrays. I wish i could have played this game when it released in September 2001.
Yeah back then the game got praised by it's graphics, so to get acquainted to the graphics of the time you would have to experience a little bit of the previous generation of 3d graphics such as psone, sega saturn, nintendo 64, after you had a taste of that it all makes sense, you can taste a bit of the hype it brought with it.
I love how hard this game just drops you in. There's no tutorial, no explanation beyond a brief intro, and you're just in it. You press start, you get that short intro and that's it. Figure out the rest. Leads to such an unease and atmospheric tension.
A true psychological masterpiece. Every score and track in this game manifests some kind of mental tension, being that of guilt or fear, or depression. To enter Silent Hill is to face your strongest and worst emotions. Can you make it out alive...?
I’ve always loved this track the most from the OST. It’s such a haunting, beautiful and complex piece of music. It conveys a strong foreboding feeling about what lies ahead, but at the same time it’s also comforting because the nightmare is yet to begin. Akira is an absolute musical genius.
I love drone, if you like this check out the music of Mount Shrine, one of the inspirations is Akira Yamaoka and Silent Hill. Sadly though he won't be releasing more as the producer passed away earlier this year...
@@ShadyRonin completely agree. While there are/were clear influences in Cesar's music, if there's any artist that produces in a similar style to his own very distinct one I don't know of it. I'm not going to pretend I know how painful it must be for his loved ones, but he certainly deserved and had the potential for a long and successful career, one that was only just beginning, and now all that potential is gone. With all that in mind I don't feel it would hit the same if it were any other artist. So tragic.
@@PrestonLions3 Oh yeah I guess I worded the end of that first comment badly lol.. I was talking about the person that produces as Mount Shrine, not Akira Yamaoaka.
@@lineriderrulz Among many other artists, Mount Shrine was also one of my inspirations. If I'm not wrong he also produced as "Lindsheaven Virtual Plaza". His track _Through The Endless Inertia_ has to be one of my favorites, I can't even describe how many feelings it encapsulates. I highly reccommend it, I even contacted him a while ago just to compliment what he achieved through his many producer personas and to ask something technical about that specific track of his. It really makes you think, what are their mission in this world. Mount Shrine actually left something behind and he's not that well known, like many maaaany others. The power of empathy some people have is mesmerizing... it's truly a gift to feel so much and being able to just think back to an actual moment when you start imagining this guy sitting in his room all alone just creating, never knowing _that day will come_ .
As someone who suffers a lot from sleep paralysis and has had what you may call 'out of body experiences', this is kind of like how it sounds in the background. Like the dreams are so diffuse and dense but you also can hear like this background noise that is sooo dark and penetrating, such as this track.
@@valder8423 Hi! sorry to be late. f you are still interested, well, it feels like you are immaterial but you can't cross material stuff, it's truly eerie, and everything looks kind of blurry and slow, but you are still able to move faster. I've been able to walk around home and float over stairs, getting to rooms, but everything looks cloudy, dark, there ir a feeling that something else is with you but it is not harmful, just observing... well, in most cases. Once I had an episode in which I feel I looking for someone that sneaked inside my house, and everything was so dark and dense. Most out of body experiences feel like you are in a vortex, something like that, the atmosphere is dense and cold, and you feel like you have to be careful and not touch anything despite you're flying.
I was 8 years old and visiting my cousins house, she had a lot more PS2 games than I did so whenever we visited I liked to look at her collection of new stuff, seeing things I hadn't heard of or seen before, it was cool. I saw SH2 on her stack and asked what it was, it sounded different. She says "It's really scary, do you wanna borrow it?" I thought to myself hell yes I do, surely by now I've seen everything (at the age of 8 lol), I'd love to borrow it. I put the game straight in when I got home and I didn't really have a clue what was going on, but I found the one and only path that led into the forest and this began playing, and then the insanely long walk, and of course the fog, the sludging sounds in the water nearby, and the camera facing James the majority of the time so I couldn't see what I was walking towards. I had to turn the game off, it made me feel sick. It was the first time in my life I ever felt that level of being creeped out, and it was still daylight at the time lol. I gave her the game back a week later and never admitted to her that the beginning of the game scared me to death.
This song makes me feel like there's a hole in my chest, bigger than my chest can be, deeper than my body can take, a growing emptyness that grows the longer this plays.
Thanks for uploading it! I remember someone else had their own extended version of this track, but I think it got deleted, so I'm glad I found yours. SH2 made a beautiful introduction with the bathroom scene and then this playing in the background.
I listen to these when I write.. What becomes of my writings will be unknown.. But to me, freeing these thoughts are essential otherwise I might go mad If i haven't already.
That's one of the many theories surrounding why Silent Hill is the way it is. Some say it's ancient native magic, some say it's alien influence, some say it's hell, some say that it's a much deeper unknowable Supernatural force that makes that hallowed ground that Silent Hill is built upon the way it is
Reminds me of the intro to 'Eskimo - cloud light'. Honestly if I walked through the forest I wouldn't feel any worse on the other side, would seem as f'ed up as my normal life but at least it's supposed to be f'ed up
could explain this horrible music that playes after finished reading the letter ... because a dead marry is just around the corner in the back seat of James car according to devs

The atmosphere of the original SH games is unmatched. This has an almost spiritual vibe to it, in a very mysterious way. Love it.
That walk through the forest, it's like crossing the threshold between your normal life and the Otherworld. Never to be the same again...
Ugh I love your comment!
Kinda like, in twilight princess near the beginning of the game, when Link crosses into the twilight realm.
Just right after some hebrew writings and Lilith drawing in the bathroom. Kabbalah changes lives :P
