nice job, I rev to full speed and then turn H screw out a tiny bit more to slightly slow the full speed down. This will make it run slightly rich and prevent the piston from burning in most cases. Thanks for the video.
My technique for adjusting idle speed is to make a slight adjustment to the idle screw then blip the throttle and see where it lands. I have found that in many cases that once the idle is adjusted, the speed is not the same as after the throttle opens and closes against the screw.
Well done. I think there are 10 or 11 different adjusting tools. But, there is a new one I haven’t been able to get hold of. Guess I’ll worry about it, when I need to.
i have a set of 12 and i really only use about 4 of them until yesterday. I had never used the hex tool wehn i got a stihl trimmer to work on. thanks for the comment
This was a very handy video for me to see. Even though it's more than 1 year old, it popped up in my feed today. And earlier today, I brought out my Husqvarna 435 chain saw out of the garage and did some maintenance on it. I have not started it since last year, but it still started & ran OK. It's not identical to this one, but pretty similar, and I found your text description of the mixture adjustments to be very informative. One thing which I did today was remove the cover over the chain sprocket & clutch, and cleaned out a lot of oily sawdust & other stuff, and lubed the clutch and sprocket gear inside the tip of the bar, per the instructions in the manual. Also, since I have had it for 3-4 years now and still on the original spark plug, I ordered a spark plug for it. Going forward, I will pay more attention, when I use it a lot, to cleaning out the sawdust buildup around the base of the bar. I have a feeling that with basic maintenance and not abusing it, these Husqvarna saws can give many years of service.
Great video. the detail on adjustment was great. I've done many chainsaws and they all seem rather finicky with 1/4 turn adjustments I have settled on 1/8 turn at a time i feel like i find the sweet spot a bit quicker
Picked up the same saw last week at a yard sale and i only had to put on a new chain and a purge bulb and it runs great. Makes a nice limbing saw when cutting down trees or whenever i cut timber
Anytime I start tuning a saw for the first time I take note of the adjustment screws positions from closed, that way I can return to the factory setting if it isn't performing better than after I mess with it lol
I find that the Chinese carbs are more finicky on adjustments and just don’t have the range of adjustment that the original Walbro carbs have. Also, these orange Poulans are known to have intake leaks. Easy way to find out is spray carb spray around the intake and see if it tries to die.
Home Garage I do really like Husqvarna saws, just not these lower end models that are Poulans since they own that company. I do realize that not everyone has $400 for a saw but these are problematic to say the least.
@@andybecker2693 i understand. I wish I could afford a nice new saw too. Unfortunately an entry-level one is what I'm comfortable buying. Thanks for the comment

Hi I have a Tecumseh 16 horsepower overhead valve and I have noticed that the engine case gets prity hot Has good oil level Fins and shelds are all there and clean and not blocked Breather is good . Or is this just the normal nature of a Tecumseh engine?
This is completely off subject but, I thought you'd be able to help me. I recently acquired a Toro 22" Recyler and it's missing 2 mounting bolts for the motor. I haven't had much look finding out what the correct size is to replace them with. Do you know? Or can you direct me in the right direction.
@@HomeGaragechannel there's no indication of what the engine is anywhere on the machine. The model # is 20334. Gonna look that uo right now. I'm not getting notifications/mesgs in a timely manner for some reason.
Nice job on the video very helpful on tuning a chainsaw. I have a question about the fuel line and fuel filter inside the gas tank. My saw would start and the die like it was lacking fuel but cause I had just filled it up I knew it wasn't out of gas. So I open gas to check the filter and when I went to pull filter off the line a sorta gooey substance was stuck to the barbed nipple inside the line and so after pulling and this substance stretching and coming out of the line maybe like 3 inches long filter came free. But after I put filter back on and back in tank I now have a fuel leak somewhere around the carb. Any idea what the substance is and why there is a leak? Thanks for any help you can give.
on the other side of that hole is the duck bill valve. It allows the tank to pull air when fuel leaves the tank. If it's leaking there, it means the valve is leaking and needs to be replaced. Good luck though it's not easy to do.
Husqvarna 340 leaks fuel when it is turned on its side. It leaks even with the tank 1/8 full. If the saw is sitting flat normally there is no leak. Also the saw will start normally but after a few seconds keeps dying. Have tried to clean the saw and there seems no spark arrestor.. The saw was recently working fine before winter. I forgot to remove the fuel though.
I don't think its Ginseng but I didn't get any sort of reaction out of that plant. I'm going to have to research it because you're the second person that has asked me about it.
