I have met Jamie a couple of times and my son raced with him in a kart race. Last time was 2007 the weekend after he won the Pepsi 400. True class act. Here is another cool JM story. We raced asphalt road course karts and most of those guys follow IndyCar, not NASCAR. Jamie shows up at Mark Dismores track in New Castle, Indiana testing for nationals at Dismores track. There were other guys there that I knew from the karting community that had no idea who Jamie was but they hung out with him most of the day and he never once mentioned to them who he was. The following year Jamie won the Daytona 500 and they showed him on ESPN and the guy jumped up and realized that was the guy he hung out with that day. Said Jamie was really cool and never let on to who he was. Similar story of me with Ryan Tucker (NFL). We raced with his kids for a whole season and I had no idea who he was. Talked to him about every weekend. Very nice guy.
I met Jamie 1 time. We were in Pocono and the team I was on, a bunch of us went fishing. As we are fishing, these 2 guys in waiters are slowing working their way towards us. It’s Jamie and some other guy. Jamie says he had just bought all the gear and was trying to test it out and get some practice in because he had some deal with the bass pro sponsors coming up. They were going to do some fly fishing, and he had never fly fished before. So he had gotten the rod, waiters, and flys and was out “practicing”. He seemed cool and after about 10 minutes of chatting about his time in the River so far, went on walking down the River some more.
I grew up watching Jamie race short track in Lebanon Missouri in the 90's...Met him and got pictures with him..He's a super nice guy...He was probably 18 or 19 at the time. My folks took us to the I-44 Speedway every Saturday night for yeeears growing up..Got to watch him tear up the short on the regular and even beat the short track legend himself...Larry Phillips...R.I.P Larry.
Jamie is easily one of my all time favorites. I talked to him in the pits at Daytona in 2016 and I was 20 at the time and told him how I was at Charlotte for his first win when I was 6 years old and he looked at me and deadpan said “god I’m getting old.”
I won a local wrench turning competition put on by Gearwrench Tools. Air conditioned box at Chicagoland Speedway with catered food, a tour of the pit with Matt Macall, hauler and garage. Then we had a meet and greet with Jamie. He was so nice, and hung around for some Q&A and photo ops. I'm sure he had a lot on his mind before the race, but you'd never know it by how gracious he was. That was the race where Larson and Kyle Busch were going at it on the final lap, with Larson getting turned and going through the grass to finish second. One of the best finales of a race I can remember. That was the second best day of my life, and I'm only saying that to not anger the missus!
I grew up watching Jamie race short track in Lebanon, Missouri as a kid in the 90's...He was probably around 18 or 19 at the time and treated my folks and my siblings like gold...Super nice guy.
I'll always remember when he won that 1st race. As a fan, I was impressed, then I believe he won his 1st Busch series race what, a week later? The guy was super talented. Even back then, watching every race, it seemed like he was always the odd guy out at Roush, didn't really fit the team. Was stoked to see him go back to Ganassi & remain there, solid hand for that team for years.
The more I hear Jamie talk the more I miss him in the sport. I really hope he spends more time in the booth in 2023. I can't get enough of the commentators like Kenseth and Patrick and Jamie who are so much calmer
Chip Ganassi had signed Zane Smith to drive a Cup car before he sold to Justin Marks & Chips' style of managing his race team is the style of the whole team that Justin, has with built at TrackHouse Racing & you can hear it in Zane's passion of being chosen to be a part of such a Great Enterprise as TrackHouse.
Different attitude at Roush than at any other team. They weren't there to play or to take the baby steps. They were there to win. You have to have a winning mindset to win, none of this coddling and supportiveness. Look what Ganassi did with all of his kindness. Nothing.

But also a shame that Ganassi may be a good cheerleader but his cars were horrendous during that time period. It took till the merger and then eventual back to Ganassi to be good again.
Jack refused to evolve and invest in the building. Pissed everybody off watching brand new teams have better shops and support while Roush cars are mid pack and a low paycheck.
@william honeycutt the team was way inconsistent and only competitive 50 percent of the time. If you look at the final standings and avg finish from 02 to 04 18th, 18th, and 21st. They were not at the same caliber as some other teams.
I was at a yard sale and found a crash-able nascar that they stopped making a while ago. It was in the persons house and they just let me keep it. This just reminded me of that.
Lack of success? At that time in like 2009/2010? I know Roush fell off through the decade but the environment Jamie is describing was what Roush was like at its peak success
I remember chad norris called him cupcake at the truck shop when he came in to set the pedals, steering wheel and seat mounts. I’m under the truck holding the steering shaft, I drop it and bust out laughing.
Jamie is a class act. It seems Jack's then drivers now give an opinion that Jack was difficult to work for. When Edward's left along with Kenseth it became pretty clear JR was not who you wanted to work for.
@@sicfrynutEven Mark's frustration with Roush was evident toward the end of his tenure. The cars were underpowered, sponsors were leaving little by little as were drivers like Jeff Burton.
Nothing new, we all know the culture at Roush sucked. His refusal to adapt is why his program took a dump and he about ruined Ford’s NASCAR program with it.
Too be fair you have to do some longer runs to get to the nipple bleed point. Does it happen yes especially for long marathon training runs of 12 plus miles. You do lose a lot of weight marathon training as well. But the average dude doing a 5k or 10k shouldn't worry about nipple bleeding. You can actually drink a lot more beer and eat pretty much whatever you want. So those who hate running should think about that one. Beer is much easier to burn off than liquor. Bigger guys should probably do the elliptical much easier on the knees.
My father and I met over a hundred drivers both personally and at public events the last 25 years. Jamie McMurray was the only total jackass we ever encountered, multiple times. We will never forget that.
Well yeah Jamie was horrible there so of course he will say it wasn't his fault 😂 instead of "I had the opportunity most racers never get and despite that it didn't work out"
It boils down to ways different people are motivated. It's even clear for some time that Jack basically creates competition between his teams. This works for some people, but not everybody. It seems to be a very polarizing methodology. People either are driven by it and find success or find it to be a completely toxic environment.

And if you aren't fighting to put up your best day in and day out, you aren't getting results. That's Jack's mindset.
And that clearly doesn't work at the top level of NASCAR anymore. And hasn't for a good while. There's a reason that true top tier talent hasn't gone anywhere near a Roush car in a long time. Wrecky Stenhouse is pretty much their most well known, successful driver in the last decade I think.
@@Luke_81 I might even expand on that. It's been a long time since the dominating Roush days, times have changed and so has culture. I think less and less people in general react positively to bekng pushed like folks were "back in the day".
Too many people forget that Chip Gannassi was a racer himself when he started his own team. That’s why he respects his drivers.
