I have met Jamie a couple of times and my son raced with him in a kart race. Last time was 2007 the weekend after he won the Pepsi 400. True class act. Here is another cool JM story. We raced asphalt road course karts and most of those guys follow IndyCar, not NASCAR. Jamie shows up at Mark Dismores track in New Castle, Indiana testing for nationals at Dismores track. There were other guys there that I knew from the karting community that had no idea who Jamie was but they hung out with him most of the day and he never once mentioned to them who he was. The following year Jamie won the Daytona 500 and they showed him on ESPN and the guy jumped up and realized that was the guy he hung out with that day. Said Jamie was really cool and never let on to who he was. Similar story of me with Ryan Tucker (NFL). We raced with his kids for a whole season and I had no idea who he was. Talked to him about every weekend. Very nice guy.

I met Jamie 1 time. We were in Pocono and the team I was on, a bunch of us went fishing. As we are fishing, these 2 guys in waiters are slowing working their way towards us. It’s Jamie and some other guy. Jamie says he had just bought all the gear and was trying to test it out and get some practice in because he had some deal with the bass pro sponsors coming up. They were going to do some fly fishing, and he had never fly fished before. So he had gotten the rod, waiters, and flys and was out “practicing”. He seemed cool and after about 10 minutes of chatting about his time in the River so far, went on walking down the River some more.

I won a local wrench turning competition put on by Gearwrench Tools. Air conditioned box at Chicagoland Speedway with catered food, a tour of the pit with Matt Macall, hauler and garage. Then we had a meet and greet with Jamie. He was so nice, and hung around for some Q&A and photo ops. I'm sure he had a lot on his mind before the race, but you'd never know it by how gracious he was. That was the race where Larson and Kyle Busch were going at it on the final lap, with Larson getting turned and going through the grass to finish second. One of the best finales of a race I can remember. That was the second best day of my life, and I'm only saying that to not anger the missus!

Too be fair you have to do some longer runs to get to the nipple bleed point. Does it happen yes especially for long marathon training runs of 12 plus miles. You do lose a lot of weight marathon training as well. But the average dude doing a 5k or 10k shouldn't worry about nipple bleeding. You can actually drink a lot more beer and eat pretty much whatever you want. So those who hate running should think about that one. Beer is much easier to burn off than liquor. Bigger guys should probably do the elliptical much easier on the knees.

But when he was pressured to dump Larson and then hendrick was allowed to bring him back that was the last straw. Not thrilled to see everyone pile on the Cat in the Hat. He worked hard and earned succes in an awfully competitive enviroment. Everyone ages, some more gracefully than others. I wish The Three yankees well in 2023.
