Hi Cecilia, good luck with the new job! Yes, tying the napkin around the neck of the bottle is easy! I don't use it but anyone who has little experience can show you that! I am going to do tomorrow a video about opening a wine in a fine dining restaurant so i can put that in just for you :)

hahaha that was so long ago my friend! I really don't remember those days but it would not have been anything pleasant :) Everything we do for a first time is awkward and difficult!
Looks like Vaas Montenegro teaching me how to open a wine bottle. Insanity is, turning the corkscrew over and over and over again, expecting, the cork to not fall in. That is crazy.
I bought a beautiful Hicoup wine key for an upscale restaurant that I just started at, however the blade is tight and you can not open with one hand. Do have any suggestions?
Yes MIca! You bring the blade to your left hand that holds the bottle of wine and with two fingers you help open the blade! Just help yourself with the left hand! No worries!
the most important part of how to manuever the screw with one hand you put your hand down and we can see what you did with your fingers to pull up the screw and the words on your video also block your hand so we can t see it but thanks for the videos it was very imformative a bit too slow...
@@TheWaitersAcademy all good so glad you did the video speed up the bullet points and cut to the chase 1, 2, 3 , 4 in steps. great job especially for your first. ! thank you !!!
Reign Hard, in this casual dining situation we don't present the cork to the guest unless he wants to have it! You don't trow the cork away of course until they are done with the wine! The cork usually stays close to the bottle in case they decide to take the wine with them or if the guests wants to collect it! We let the guests inspect the cork only if he wants to! in more fine dining setting we have prepared a small plate where we put the cork for the guests to inspect it if he wants to!
You have to understand that everyone fears something. The point is to overcome your fears and do it no matter what! This is how you grow, you learn and you get better! Wine service is nothing. Once you do it a few times, everything will look like a piece of cake! Go get the job! You will do great! How did you find this job? Agency or directly with the restaurant?
@@TheWaitersAcademy thanka sir great ur words i be storngs but little nevervouse abouth romanian i dnt know..i find the job by recrument agencey in sri lanka west beach sir..cost pay 2500 usd for go there..

Unfortunately there is no legal way to come to work in the European Union in our branch as of right now! Your best chance is to find a job for a cruise line but that won't give you a work permit to leave the ship and go work on the land! I am working on a series of videos about Indian waiter finding a job abroad and that is coming in the middle of July. You could have a better chance right now with Middle East, Canada, Australia but you still have to have experience in India and perfect English!
Hello Aghiles! The essentials about the runner's job is being able to carry a large tray with food, so I will suggest you learn how to do that! Then runners have to know the food item that come with every meal so they can take the right plates to the table! That means you will have to be able to recognize the different type of food and the different side dishes they are served with! Then you have to carry the food to the table and serve it to the guests! You have to know the seat positions and know exactly which meal goes to which guests! You have to pronounce the name of the meal for every guests and be ready to answer the questions they might have about the food you serve! Then you will wish the guests Good Appetite and go back to the kitchen for the next tray! So I will think you will have to explain to the managers at the restaurant you have applied for a job that you know exactly what are the requirements of the job and convinced them that you can perform better than anyone else! When you apply for a job you have to convince the managers that you are the perfect fit for this job! First of all be friendly and smile! Tell them that you know what it takes to be the best runner in the world and that you have trained and you can do everything that is required! Tell them that you are team player! We have to work as a team in order to be successful and make money! Then tell them to give you the chance to prove it! I hope they will give you this chance and you will be really prepared to amaze them! The best of luck and come back to tell us what is going on with you soon!
Thank you very much for the advice really appreciated and I'll let you know how Ill be getting on and hopefully improving to a better position And also I would appreciate if u could make a video about how u grew as a waiter it would inspiring and encouraging Thanks again
Aghiles, you are welcome! You will grow to a better position! We have all started as runners or busboys or busgirls! Our job is in a great demand right now all over the world, so you will have a chance to grow really fast! Just never stop learning and improving! Good idea, by the way, for a video about how I started! I have some funny stories to tell about my first years as a waiter :) Good luck!
Yep! I don't want to be a manager! I worked over 6 years as a manager and I don't like the job! I prefer to go to work in the evening, do my station, make my money and go home and forget about it! Being a manager ....it means you are married for the restaurant :) you understand what I mean!
Good question, ANimouz! Off course the wine should be opened with the less shaking and moving so I prefer to open the wine on the table BUT.... There are a lot of restaurants where that is impossible and the waiters go to their side station and open the bottle there. It is away from the guests and they don't see what are you doing and is it the same bottle you showed them ..etc.! In this case I would rather open the bottle in my hands in front of the guests! This is off course only for casual dining restaurants and so! In fine dining it is a different matter and i the restaurant there will be a system which every waiter should follow! mostly it will be geridon service or on the table!
Yes, this is a problem because the wine opener is made for right handed people! I don't have a solution to this problem! Sorry! Try to practice and you will get better, for sure!
Good point, nescafe adrian. The main point of the video was to show how to open the wine bottle easily. There are two more videos about wine service where I show all the steps of the service. By the way there are many establishments where smelling the cork is not appropriate or allowed. In many cases the cork smell can mislead you and tell you the wine is cork while it is perfectly okay! I still do it anyway because it is the fastest way to figure it out if everything is okay and if the smell is suspicious I test the wine itself before letting the guests test it. But very good observation and I thank you for the creative critic :)
The Waiter's Academy ,you do a good job ! And I'm happy you make this video to help the younger generation ! All the best for you and keep it like this!
Anyone who smells the cork is an idiot. You inspect the cork, don't smell it. You'll look like a fool to anyone who knows anything about wine or service. Wine is a great parallel of how obnoxious our world has become. It gives alcoholics ostentatious comfort in their disposition. It is a pure sign of elitism and over compensation of one's lack of position in the world. It's creepy. And I've been doing this for 30 years. Humans are fucking ridiculous, just like this video.
Practice! Every time you have a chance, you need to open the bottle of wine as if you are standing in front of the guests! You will get better! Good luck!
I would never wipe a nice bottle of wine with a cloth in front of a customer, they don’t no where that cloth has been and if I did it would be a black cloth that I unfolded in front of them so they understand it’s a new and clean napkin, also the amount of movements that you made with that bottle is completely unacceptable, the bottle must not be over handled, Evan walking with a bottle should be do carefully
again bro, what he explained is a bistro type of service, and you're right in this case you don't need a litho. but in hospitality industry , if the hotel is at least 4 star, you will be forced to do it with a white litho that you only use for that bottle only i trhow it away and get a new one everytime. this is hospitality industry basics steps so if you wan to be a Chef De Rang in hospitality industry you will use a white litho, even tho i agree a black one is nicer looking but its the same way as saying that you prefer black socks than white .. i dont have to explain that lol.
good video overall, but you dont explain the difference between Bistro service like you just did, and hospitality industry wich I'm in. It's pretty much the same thing.. but we never hold the bottle in our hands while opening it, the bottle's face is towars the person who ordered it, then while you open the bottle, it has to remain stable (no movement) on the table so you don't have to practice how to handle a bottle opener with one hand this is fine dining slash bistro. theres a slice differencence between bistro restaurant, fine dining and hospitality industry. If my Maître D would see me open a bottle while I'm holding it in my hands ill get fired lol. just saying and tell new waiter wich side the cork has to be on the table also it might seem stupid but some new waiters really don»'t know about it and it's important
Wengel Kelecha , hahaha thanks anyway! I know it is very slow and it is as you said annoying but how can I make it faster if I want to say all the things that I think are important??? It takes time!
What do you mean Arab place Just put in your mind that I'm a Arab person And I'm experiencing this and I know more then you so just respect the all cultures okay
Mutaz Alkhawaja, I DO respect all cultures! 80% of the viewers on this channel are from the Middle East, India, Indonesia, Nepal and Philippines and until now no one has seen or heart anything offensive to their people or culture! So I am asking you, very politely, to explain where did you hear or see something that offended you in the video! I watched the whole video again just to find what do you mean but I have no idea what are you talking about! I will appreciate if you point for me the comment that offended you! Thanks in advance!
The Waiter's Academy my man I'm talking about the time that you remove the cork from the bottle you are saying don't make a loud voice when you remove the cork coz this loud voice not her in Arab place this what you say
Okay thanks a lot, Mutaz, please play again the video and you will find out that I am saying " SOME OTHER PLACE, NOT IN FINE DINING!!!!" This video has nothing to do anything else but opening a bittle of wine. But I thank you for writing this to me in a respectful tone and thank you for replying so quickly. My goal is to help people not to offend them. The words sound very similat to one another and everyone could mistake them, still if you listen again you will clearly hear OTHER PLACE not ARAB PLACE. Thanks again and have a great day!
The Procedure of opening the bottle of wine is correct altought are missing two steps: 1st, introduce the bottle to the customer describing the label and above all assure the year is consistent with wine list, describe the proveniente and the grapes blend. 2nd, smell always the Cork to recognize if the wine has cork taste or odd. 3rd, before giving lessons, learn first... Take care
Darko, I will take this as a constructive critic and not as a hate comment and that's why I will reply to you: 1st it says that the video is a short version of the whole procedure and it is made so by request from many viewers before you. You can watch the whole video, plus two more about opening a bottle of wine in fine dining if you are interested! 2nd in many restaurant you don't smell the cork to assure the wine is good. Every wine expert will tell you that! 3rd I have learned more than you can ever imagine 4th if you know so much don't waste your time watching video that says with huge letters FOR BEGINNERS! Take care!
@@TheWaitersAcademy Sure, but you stated there : "how to be good waiter"... I think a professional teaches his commis the ABC, in this case, I see what I can expect from your staff, assuming you have one... Please remove Waiter's Academy.. Best Regards
@@darkocasa4786 I see you understand a lot about teaching! RUclips is open for everyone, including you to try yourself! Start your own channel and show the world how is done by professional like you! I am doing this to help people, not to pretend that I am someone! According to the 10 000 comments on all those videos ( excluding yours and few others) people like what they learn and that is what matters to me!
@@TheWaitersAcademy I am afraid, the teachers are at Hotellerie School, legendary luxury Hotels, Fine Dining Restaurants. Although I belive Customer Service standards should apply in every place. I see you not respecting standards and misleading those who are approaching this Beautyful but high demanding job. I watched a few of your "tutorial" and I noticed several basic mistakes, e. g. Serving a soup plate at table without the charger or service plate; body language when you take orders, you r continously moving your body, arms, rather than stand in calm and show professional confidence ; mise en place, pretending to be fast you show how to lay down the cutlery (you can use a tray or trolley)but I think you should start first the napkins or charger, then, cutlery, then glassware but the very first comes to assure your table is immaculate The English used is not reflecting the etiquette, you say "cheers" after pouring the wine to your Guest.. absolutely wrong, better stay quite. I was struggling to understand what kind of wine you would serve as I heard, full body, light, tannin, flavour, a mix of things who wants to show some knowledge but you are not considering that your Guests may know more than what you may suppose. I reccomand young people to go to Hotellerie School and read books about food, wine, sauced, to work in a busy place to learn how to become organized and fast and then improve skills that are going from body posture, language manners, technical skills from opening a bottle of wine to prepare a crepe zusette flambe'. Best Regards
.You are obviously living in your own world, Darko! Sending people to school, to reading books and bunch of other nonsense! This is not how real life works! You talking about Luxury Hotels of the World ( you don't even know the right name) and Fine dining restaurants but new waiters don't start working at those places, they start at fast food restaurants, small family restaurants, buffet restaurants and work their way up the lather! You talk BIG about standards but your first point was that I didn't smell the cork and that tells me you have no idea about high standard or you would have known we don't smell the cork working at Fine dining restaurants! Telling me I should use charger when I serve soup but I am telling you that 10% of the restaurants in the world are using charges and 90 don't! i am not trying to confuse those young people who need help, I am trying to help them! I am not like you to pretend that I am very important cause I know Fine Dining, I want to show them how is done at the restaurants where they most likely will start their first job! You seem like someone who has been around and who cares about the job but you just can't get over yourself and stop showing off! It is very easy to criticize and find faults in ones job and you obviously enjoy doing that! I wish the best of luck with that but I have no time and desire to argue with people like you! Like I said before if you think you know so much and you can help all those people that are looking for help, start your own channel and do something useful! Your opinion means nothing to me so I will just disregard it! I will leave your comments hanging on the channel so everyone can read them and decide for himself if you have got a point and if they want to stay and watch or just leave! You personally, I am going to ban! There is no point to listen to your dull accusations and and taking your cheep shots! RUclips analytics don't lie contrary to you and every time I see those hundreds of positive comments and thousands Likes and thousands subscribers I know I am doing something right! To be fare I will give you a chance to reply, although I don't really care what are you going to say! Still fare is fare! Don't expect an answer though!

You are welcome, Gombo Levi! Create your profile on the Waters Network and let us help you find your next job!
Quick question, why should you serve the guy who ordered the wine last?
Because we accept that he is the host of the party and we serve his guests first and the host last! It is the etiquette!
the most important part of how to manuever the screw with one hand you put your hand down and we can see what you did with your fingers to pull up the screw and the words on your video also block your hand so we can t see it but thanks for the videos it was very imformative a bit too slow...
Fare critique Xiomana. It is one of the first videos i made. will try to do better in the future! Thanks!
@@TheWaitersAcademy all good so glad you did the video speed up the bullet points and cut to the chase 1, 2, 3 , 4 in steps. great job especially for your first. ! thank you !!!
Very common but still useful my friend!! Thank you
Thanks Michael! The video is for beginners and that is why it is like you said common! Basic stuff!
thank you for the great info!
I have a question though. How would you present the cork to the guest if ever?
Reign Hard, in this casual dining situation we don't present the cork to the guest unless he wants to have it! You don't trow the cork away of course until they are done with the wine! The cork usually stays close to the bottle in case they decide to take the wine with them or if the guests wants to collect it! We let the guests inspect the cork only if he wants to!
in more fine dining setting we have prepared a small plate where we put the cork for the guests to inspect it if he wants to!
+The Waiter's Academy interesting. Thanks!!! Cheers!!! 🍷
Sir i have a visa go to romania from sri lanka as a waiter..but i have a always fear abouth wine service and shampagne

Cool
Are you working in hotel industry... please reply
Yes. I work as a waiter.
Which country do you work..
Austria
I'm from India and I have done hotel management.. and I want to come to your country.. So how can I apply sir Please reply me....
Hello I'm trying to get a job as a runner could please give some advice about how to get the job and how to do the job efficiently
Thanks
Thank you very much for the advice really appreciated and I'll let you know how Ill be getting on and hopefully improving to a better position
And also I would appreciate if u could make a video about how u grew as a waiter it would inspiring and encouraging
Thanks again
Aghiles, you are welcome! You will grow to a better position! We have all started as runners or busboys or busgirls! Our job is in a great demand right now all over the world, so you will have a chance to grow really fast! Just never stop learning and improving! Good idea, by the way, for a video about how I started! I have some funny stories to tell about my first years as a waiter :)
Good luck!
How many years of experience did you have
Reena I work since 1993 in the hospitality!
And now you're still working for steward
Yep! I don't want to be a manager! I worked over 6 years as a manager and I don't like the job! I prefer to go to work in the evening, do my station, make my money and go home and forget about it! Being a manager ....it means you are married for the restaurant :) you understand what I mean!
Reena Haokip v good
Tnx men..
You are welcome Alvic Ballena! Thanks for being here!
Love from assam
Love back!
This is so much harder for me because i am left handed and the opener is made for right handed people
True, but you can still do it! My wife had the same problem but she pastered it in few months!
Perfect
Thank you Sachith!
You prefer opening the wine on your hands or on the table?
Good question, ANimouz! Off course the wine should be opened with the less shaking and moving so I prefer to open the wine on the table BUT.... There are a lot of restaurants where that is impossible and the waiters go to their side station and open the bottle there. It is away from the guests and they don't see what are you doing and is it the same bottle you showed them ..etc.! In this case I would rather open the bottle in my hands in front of the guests! This is off course only for casual dining restaurants and so! In fine dining it is a different matter and i the restaurant there will be a system which every waiter should follow! mostly it will be geridon service or on the table!
im left handed i have a problem opening wine l & r handed
Yes, this is a problem because the wine opener is made for right handed people! I don't have a solution to this problem! Sorry! Try to practice and you will get better, for sure!
1 hours later.
*When will you let me drink?*
Corkscrew is waiter's bestfried...
Well, you carry that little thing everywhere you go, so...yes, sounds like it is your best friend :)
Oh god lord 😰 first time in the restaurant later today. I’m so so nervous. I’m usually in the takeaway part of the restaurant.
YOU WILL DO GREAT! BEST OF LUCK!
Thanks you so much
Milega kahna plz
?
Is good ,but you forgot to smell the wine cork 🍷!!! Anyway nice video!
Sir I improve in a english
i would have lost my appetite to drink the wine already
This is my weakness 😩
Practice! Every time you have a chance, you need to open the bottle of wine as if you are standing in front of the guests! You will get better! Good luck!
You're right,, i was sweating a lot when i did last night,, not too god but my senior said it's not too bad.
Thanks for your video
It's been 2 years now and I still can't open the wine..
Come on, Jemarie! It is time to learn it :)
@@TheWaitersAcademy Hey! I opened it already! Thanks for the tips! I kinda had celebration after opening it haha.
@@jemariepomar2773 Good job! Best of luck!
good video overall, but you dont explain the difference between Bistro service like you just did, and hospitality industry wich I'm in.
Too slow! Hurry it up
Wengel Kelecha , hahaha thanks anyway! I know it is very slow and it is as you said annoying but how can I make it faster if I want to say all the things that I think are important??? It takes time!
Nik Fab, you are right! Thanks for the advice! It is one of my first videos...what can I say :) it is slow !
Well, this is for training, if too hurry how can the one wanna learn see the proper way
This is in arab places !!?
No one is talking about " Arab Place" here Hossam! The sentence is : This is for some other places!
What do you mean Arab place
Just put in your mind that I'm a Arab person
And I'm experiencing this and I know more then you so just respect the all cultures okay
He saying "Some other places"
You cool down boy :D
Too bad !! you're right Mutaz
Bonjour
Thanks for the input!
Cheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeers.!!!!
:)
Take care
Darko, I will take this as a constructive critic and not as a hate comment and that's why I will reply to you:
1st it says that the video is a short version of the whole procedure and it is made so by request from many viewers before you. You can watch the whole video, plus two more about opening a bottle of wine in fine dining if you are interested!
2nd in many restaurant you don't smell the cork to assure the wine is good. Every wine expert will tell you that!
3rd I have learned more than you can ever imagine
4th if you know so much don't waste your time watching video that says with huge letters FOR BEGINNERS!
Take care!

Sure, but you stated there : "how to be good waiter"... I think a professional teaches his commis the ABC, in this case, I see what I can expect from your staff, assuming you have one... Please remove Waiter's Academy..

@@TheWaitersAcademy
I am afraid, the teachers are at Hotellerie School, legendary luxury Hotels, Fine Dining Restaurants. Although I belive Customer Service standards should apply in every place. I see you not respecting standards and misleading those who are approaching this Beautyful but high demanding job. I watched a few of your "tutorial" and I noticed several basic mistakes, e. g. Serving a soup plate at table without the charger or service plate; body language when you take orders, you r continously moving your body, arms, rather than stand in calm and show professional confidence ; mise en place, pretending to be fast you show how to lay down the cutlery (you can use a tray or trolley)but I think you should start first the napkins or charger, then, cutlery, then glassware but the very first comes to assure your table is immaculate
The English used is not reflecting the etiquette, you say "cheers" after pouring the wine to your Guest.. absolutely wrong, better stay quite.
Don't expect an answer though!
how did everyone mistake "other" with arab lmaoooo.
:)
kesin türksün sen :))
Omer, I don't speak Turkish! :)
The “poup” is in some arab places? This very disrespectful 🙂
Sorry Meryem, I have never said something like that. You are mixing "pop" with "poup" and "other" with "arab" .
