Mattel NEEDS to reissue this set. Repaint it, split the components up if need be, but everybody who bought the Origins Castle Grayskull playset should have the opportunity to get these accessories. It is incomplete with them.
After that review, I'd say it's only incomplete without the space suit guy. The grate is ill conceived. The spirit needs better colors and paint to bring out its face.
They WILL reissue it. Would be silly for Mattel to not reuse the expensive tooling they created. They reissued the LOP figures and they WILL reissue this and Copy Cat
There is a 3d printed spirit of grayskull on eBay for like 10 bucks, it glows in the dark and looks exactly like the comics. I love mine and display that one instead of the one in this pack.
I agree that the Spirit would have been amazing had it been glow in the dark. Dungeon grate should have been longer in one dimenson and narrower in the other to completely cover the area. Instead of the tentacle thing it should have had like a hologram of the various monsters imprisoned within.
Europe needs to opportunity to buy this set! Or at the very least... the space suit and the Grate. To say you have to show up in person to a US event in the middle of a travel ban wasn't a great look.
Was the Classics Castle Grayskull bigger? Maybe the dungeon grate was originally meant for a larger castle and they saved the mold and reused it for the Origins line. The space suit is the best part. I really like the idea of extra things to add to the overall play set.

Awesome that this figure exists and the icing on the cake is the removable head so you can replace the head and have anyone wear the armor. A loved seeing all 3 next to each other. Great video
I personally have mine displayed outside my castle with the Orlax wraped around Orko. If they dont re release it in some form I may cut the dungeon in half and sand it down and glue it back to fit the slot better and paint it but for now im just going to display it as is. I was also hoping that the Spirit would react to black light cause the space under the spirit has enough room to set up a light but alas it doesnt react to light. The suit of armor is really cool and eventually I want to paint mine using color shifting paint so it looks more like the vintage cardboard insert. Atleast they really nailed the box, might retrofit that to hold all my accessories and spare parts :D

I'm hoping I can Frankenstein together a version of the armour with MOTUC hips and legs, considering how oversized the upper body looks compared to the lower body, put some twinkling lights into the Spirit of Grayskull, and build a bigger dungeon with more critters.
Could not wait to get my hands on these ! Then i got a set and was truly disappointed with the size of the items. The dungeon trap monster and the ghost of Grayskull would actually fit better in the Classics playset.When you clip the dungeon grate onto the castle floor , the creator is to tall.
My Secrets set is waiting for me in LA, and I'm out of the country at the moment so I haven't had a chance to see it in the flesh (plastic?) yet, so thanks for this - you've given me my first proper look at it. But I have to say - I really like the grate and orlax pieces. I wish there was another sticker inside the grate, you're quite right to want to see the other creatures languishing there - but the slightly pointless opening grate door reminds me of the slightly pointless way the 'trapdoor' worked in the vintage Kenner Jabba set. In both cases, the toy designers were dealing with trying to replicate the idea of depth in playlets which were super-shallow and didn't have a massive pit beneath them. This feels to me like it's in keeping with the 'use your imagination kids' approach to the original Castle - like having paper cut-outs of space armor and a 2D sticker of a dungeon grate - and the fact that the trap door deposited the 'prisoners' RIGHT next to the exit door - none of it made any sense really. I like that origins feels like a toy line for kids, not a collectors line that appeals more to an adult sense of 'realism'. He-Man was always nonsensical and contradictory (like how TV Snake Mountain and Toy Snake Mountain looked NOTHING alike, and yet in our young heads we made it all fit) so I kinda like the grate BECAUSE it's a bit mad, not in spite of it. It feels like a real 80s toy. Great review as ever - thanks Dan!
Has anyone tested the dungeon grate with Classic's Grayskull? The fact the grate and the tentacle don't fit on the floor gives me the impression this was not made for Origin's Grayskull but something else entirely. Could it be an unused Classics mold?
Came to say the same thing. I don't have the Matty Collector one, so I can't try it, but I'd be curious to see the results if Dan or someone else tries it.
Classics Grayskull has those snap on floor pieces, so I doubt it would work, even if they were removed. Plus you can't do it because they have a full dungeon sculpted over where the sticker sits in the castle. So yeah, it is no way it could work.
I got Castle Grayskull when it came out in '81 (born in '77) and was thoroughly confused by the computers/spacesuit cutouts because up to that point, everything MOTU was basically barbarian/fantasy including the mini comics. They just seemed so out of place, but also made me wonder if He Man was actually from outer space like Superman (which I pretended at times). And that dungeon grate sticker was a bit horrifying for a 4 year old, which made it the most awesome thing ever
in the cartoon, they explained that his mother was an astronaut from Earth and if you look at that cardboard spacesuit ,you will see it is a female form
In the first mini-comic, I think it was called The King Of Grayskull, when Skeletor was seated on the throne, Castle Grayskull had monitors and computers. I know you were 4, but they were there.

That's weird. The dungeon grate for me did slide completely under my castle to hide the sticker. I figured the solution wasn't using the creature though but rip off the arms of Origin and Masters of the WWE figures I'm not using as "prisoners" pleading to escape the dungeon. Which makes me wonder why Mattel didn't put peg holes in the dungeon to make the effect better.
We're moving in a couple of months, so I haven't opened the PowerCon figures. I absolutely love your review of this set, even where it isn't landing for you - I find myself so damn excited!
0:52 here in Germany nearly nobody has the Power-Con exclusives already, only some from BBTS or Mattel Creations. I ordered from a German retailer and I'm still waiting. 😂
Funny coincidence, I got mine today! My opinion more or less mirrors yours, the spacesuit is definitely the highlight and I really wish the Spirit of Grayskull was a different colour so you could see the skull details more clearly, but the dungeon grate just doesn't do anything for me. It really should've had some kind of a sculpt or a decal to suggest that it's deeper than it actually is. I do think $30 for this set is pretty fair; I'd imagine anyone paying through their noses for this thing in the aftermarket would be super disappointed, but from me it's get a solid "it's alright". That said, if Mattel does re-release the spacesuit in retail, people who missed out on this set will be perfectly well off with that and they're really not missing anything major.
Yeah, $30 seems perfect, so I wasn't tempted by any of the prices I've seen popping up. I assume we'll see the space suit eventually, they'll want a bit more money for the work put into those extra parts.
Hopefully they release this pack as a general release and fix all the issues you point out in this video like make it a glow-in-the-dark spirit figure with matching green to grayskull, fix the pit creature not fitting in the grate stand, re-size the creature to fit, etc. The space suit figure is the best part. Maybe they can add the yellow highlights to the figure like in the original drawing. That way, folks who bought this pack can re-buy the general release pack as well. Origins is my favorite current (?) line and I've purchased every single one for my young MotU fan, but the lengths Mattel has gone to to keep these different toys from us is astounding. So many companies think they're Nintendo and that scarcity will generate buzz, but from fans/collectors I know and speak with I think it's safe to say that in this case it's backfiring and destroying interest. They need to get these back on the shelves before they're forgotten for good because my kid still needs an Origins Snake Mountain to complete our adventures and I'm not ready to accept that Mattel fumbled and surrendered the game. .. 🐍 ⛰

I agree on all points. If not for the included Space Suit figure I probably would have passed on this. But if you are an Origins figure completionist as I am you will need the Space Suit to complete your collection. Cool figure in its own right!
My Grayskull Pack is sitting in my pile of loot on BBTS. I'm excited to get this one and have the space suit guy and spirit attached to my castle. Its a bummer the grate and tentacle don't fit. I've been excited to get your thoughts on this as I know you've mentioned some of these things in past videos. I hope that Mattel addresses the issue. Did they ever show pics of the grate fitting inside of the castle? I can't remember ever seeing that.
There's a dungeon acessory that fits into the playset and looks pretty good on Etsy for like 40 CA$, and you can get a glow in the dark Grayskull spirit on various sites too, the only problem is that they are 3D printed, so it does have lines/marks. They are also not "original", so that may bother some collectors.

I just got my set today and my opinion is the spirit is the best, then the pit, then the robot last, but I love it all !!. I do wish the pit was at least painted black on the inside but whatever I love it anyway 🤓😊
By removing the armor from the Grayskull Astronaut and changing the head and hands with these from Clamp Champ, the Figure could look like Bulletproof from C.O.P.S.
Glad I got it from the site when it was available for 30.00 or whatever it originally was. The suit is the only must have piece. The spirit would have been nice if colored properly. The Orlax works as a dio piece but that's it. No way I would pay Ebay prices for the set.
This is the only Power-Con set from this year I managed to get. (to be fair it's the one I wanted most) Strangely I was surprised by the size of the spirit and the Orlax. Despite seeing pictures of them, in hand they were bigger than I thought they were going to be. I have to ask though: Was that tentacle called the Orlax at any point prior to Revelations? I remember a similar creature in the 200X episode "The Price 0f Deceit" but I think it was just called the "thing in the pool of shadows"
This is cool. As a kid I liked thad cardboard artwork, but wished it was a figure to pretend He-man or someone was wearing it and not just cardboard . So very cool Mattel has realized that idea as a true figure

OK, so I'm a little late to watching this review, as I have just gotten into the Origins line (my Castle Grayskull should be delivered today!). When I first saw that this set existed, I thought MUST HAVE. Then I watched your review Dan, and that thought shifted pretty quickly. I would have been willing to pay a silly amount on ebay just to have these add ons, but besides the figure, it's pretty much a failure. It's clear that the design wasn't thought through for the dungeon or Spirit of Grayskull. You're right - why not glow in the dark? I'm curious if the dungeon fits on the other side of the castle? But even if it did, the entire piece wouldn't fit I suppose. Ugh! I'm guessing the odds of a re-release are pretty slim, right?

Don't know if it is mentioned here already, but could it be that the choice of color for the spirit were based on the color on the Classics Spirit of Grayskull?
Just reissue these separately. Especially the sprit with smoky colour or GITD plastic. I was little bummed about couldn't order this set.. but man, after seeing the final outcome, I am little glad I didn't spend money on this atrocity. The only thing I will be missing is the gorgeous art box though.

For real...I paid $100 on ebay for it. After seeing this review though....nah, canceling the order.

This shouldn't need a "fix". Mattel are veterans at this....they should know how to do this after almost 40 years.

The plumes of smoke are probably rubbery to protect tbem from getting snapped off during rough play

I bought this just for the Suit of Armor. Still wish we could have had the 3D Dungeon the Horseman Sculpted for Classics.

When I first saw that this set existed, I thought MUST HAVE. Then I watched your review Dan, and that thought shifted pretty quickly. I would have been willing to pay a silly amount on ebay just to have these add ons, but besides the figure, it's pretty much a failure. It's clear that the design wasn't thought through for the dungeon or Spirit of Grayskull. You're right - why not glow in the dark? I'm curious if the dungeon fits on the other side of the castle? But even if it did, the entire piece wouldn't fit I suppose. Ugh! I'm guessing the odds of a re-release are pretty slim, right?
I wonder how the dungeon grate works with the Classics Castle?

He would be a great rerelease fig. Maybe with less paint apps or something
Does the spirit of grey skull seem easy to make a silicon mold of to cast in glow in the dark resin?

Put the dungeon grate thing on the otther side, the one that doesnt have the door to Greyskull in it?

Why do you have the put the grate over the top of the floor sticker? You can put the spacesuit and dungeon grate anywhere you like

Opened mine last night.. Thought all the same things you said.. Foot pegs off.. Dungeon is awkward.. And spirit looks more like slimer lol.. Spacesuit best part of this

I bought a 3d printed spirit of grayskull on eBay for like 10 bucks, it glows in the dark and looks exactly like the comics.
The spirit of grayskull is just like the classics spirit of grayskull. Same color

Can the dungeon fit better in the Classics MOTU Castle Grayskull?
Don't know if it is mentioned here already, but could it be that the choice of color for the spirit were based on the color on the Classics Spirit of Grayskull?
Just reissue these separately. Especially the sprit with smoky colour or GITD plastic. I was little bummed about couldn't order this set.. but man, after seeing the final outcome, I am little glad I didn't spend money on this atrocity. The only thing I will be missing is the gorgeous art box though.
i see the drawing of the spirit on the inside of the box packaging, but the actual green toy piece, i can't see the eyes at all.
I'll be honest, I was a little salty that I couldn't get this set, but this review kinda takes away a bit of the sting.
Wish the skull had better detail. It’s one of those things I have to kind of squint and turn my head some to see a skull in it

The colours of your box are much more vibrant than my Mattel Creations box. Not sure if that’s due to your camera settings?
